I remember some anon saying the PS1 version, either original or arranged, has some weird inaccurracies so maybe it's just better to emulate the original X68000 one.
As for CV 1... Chronicles isn't really a remake of that, it's a different game with the same setting, like IV. Just play 1 on NES/FC without any fan hack.
It's a remake. They made it for the x68k so they knew only enthusiasts would buy it, its hard as frick. >nes version with enhancement romhacks
see: picrel
>Hitboxes are messed up on the whip; small enemies can be hit when standing instead of needing to crouch >Timer is faster than it's supposed to be; Stage 7 is impossible to clear on one life because you'll run out of time before you reach the end >Enemy AI is broken, turning normally-tricky monsters into barely-moving jokes >Vertical aspect ratio is cut off to make room for the HUD (it was originally on a separate part of the game screen), resulting in attacks from above that you can't see coming
this isn't an NES remake, it's a port/reskin of the sharp x68k game vampire Killer. Emulate the sharp version because the psx version screws up some enemy behaviors. I recommend the SC-54 soundtrack.
Arrange mode is better imo. The original version has damage scaling like Castlevania III which made me tap out on level 3 or 4.
Also . The first NES game is great and it has infinite continues so it's not too hard.

I've tried emulating the original and it's a pain in the ass. Things to know: >There's a bad rom floating around the fricks up enemy damage >If you're using the Retroarch core you might need to make an .m3u file since it's a multi disk game >It takes a shit ton of time to load and OC-ing or FF-ing can frick up the music >The emulator also doesn't seem to support saves or save states
And you also need to put these BIOS files into Retroarch/system/keropi otherwise the game won't boot

Chronicles/X68000 is based on the premise of Castlevania 1 but has a number of different mechanics and a lot of unique stages. One isn't a replacement for the other.
>enhancement romhacks
kys you stupid shitstain
what possesses zoomer trash to keep trying to post this nonsense here? what possible reason do they have for coming to /vr/ instead of just keeping this shit on their discord?

gays
Both look like shit
You drink semen
Get the X68K original. This port fricks up everything, even in the purported "Original" mode.
Care to elaborate what they fricked up?
I've only played this version and enjoyed it.
The arranged OST was killer.

Why not just simply make a fricking patch for the ps1 port and be done with it? You'd think they would have done that already.
Caus3 lazyness andblack of motivation, speaking off, what happened to that Maria romhack?

Play PSX68000
are you an idiot?
This is a remake of the X68000 game, not Castlevania 1
If you still want to play it imo start with PS1 Mode, original mode was way too difficult for me

Areanged mode has the best soundtrack
Play this instead.
What version is the PS2 port? I'm tempted to give that one a go.
since it only released in japan, pretty sure it only has one version. dunno where you can find a rom for it though.
it's on PS4 with the 'easier' EU and JP versions included
NES game WITHOUT enhancement romhacks, thank you.
The version that has this:

This threads just come and go........jist like false starts

I played sotn for the ps4. Are there other good games like that for the ps4?

can the soundtrack for arrange mode be changed? they give you the option but it doesn't seem to change anything.
Play the original NES game 1st then X68k and finally the arranged mode on PS1 version.
think of X68k as the lost levels of CV1 or loops 3-9 of the original game instead of a full remake with new mechanics like CV4
