NGS flopping affecting Sega hard. Their GAAS titles arent a hit like other companies. Their other IPs aren't doing as hot besides Sonic and Atlus keeping them afloat. They are quickly approaching to be the next company to be acquired at this rate. AAA development budgets keep increasing, Segas shares not increasing with scale, Sega wants to push more AAA but don't have the long term capital.

PSO2 and NGS revolve around a regularly updated gacha. People spend thousands on that shit and get deeply attached to the game as a result. It keeps Global floating between 2k - 4k concurrent players despite everything that has went wrong.
pso2 still has some really cool content and fun gameplay, but these days the progression is beyond fricked and the economy ruined.
They keep removing rewards from it too so it's pretty much dead these days, but there's still a lot of things you can try out alone beyond just the story.
How anyone can play this slop is beyond me. I always heard how great PSO2 is and when it finally came over after over 10 years the only thing i got from it was a partially bricked hard drive cuz i got gifted an undeletable, inacessible folder that was tens of gigs big.
Then i tried new genesis and it was one of the most boring things i've ever played, and i played a ton of decades old life support MMOs like Rappelz or Kabal.
PSO2 global was probably one of the things preventing it from total collapse after the mediocre Episode 4 response, and the travesty that was Episode 5 making the playerbase plummet to a fraction.
Without those far less critical burgerbucks propping it up, the massive exodus of JP players would have put the game in permanent maintenance (instead of the pretty good EP6 as a final shot before maintenance) as we waited for the NGS trainwreck.

I never played a MMO that has more limited time content than permanent forever content. Every update it adds a bunch of FOMO and deletes the old FOMO.
