All of this in 3-4.5 years of development... holy shit. I fucking kneel TOKYO TEAM.
What did KH3 add btw? Underutilized wall running mechanics? Its just a shitty fucking knockoff of KH2 with some handheld reject crap awkwardly slapped on. The Amerimutt of KH with no identity of it's own (or good gameplay)
hi im new to this series and I just downloaded kingdom hearts 1. which versions of the games should I play? final mix versions?
HD version of 1FM for having skippable cutscenes and Level 1 mode, any version of KH2FM except PS3
>game is still actively played 18 years later
gives a rat's ass about
>Drive forms taking 10 years to activate
>Data vexen snowflakes sniping me from the fucking void
>Zebra Xemnas RC straight up being broken
Drive forms are lightning fast in the PS4 version. RC is still broken
I heard the pc port in EGS had issues with KH2FM. Did they patch those already.
mostly a whole lot of crashing. it's been patched several times since then, and it's pretty stable now. i still run into one smaller bug where the music would suddenly sound like it's coming from some far away source for a split second, but i don't remember running into anything severe or game breaking
Seems like a good time to go back to this game, appreciate the info.
I pirated it around the time it came out and I don't remember having any issues but I might be misremembering
why are Jiren posters always right about literally everything?
and why is he still so relevant 6 years later?
play the final mix collection called 1.5+2.5
its 4 games and 2 movies, 3 of the games are great. 1 is 50/50 if you will actually like it
>locks dodge roll behind hours of grinding
My biggest gripe with the game.
>final mix versions?
Don't play the final mix version for KH1. The vanilla experience is better and objectively has better enemy aesthetics.
The material grind is also way less bullshit on vanilla compared to final mix for KH1
The FM version of 1 is fine. The Ultima is a bitch to get in 1FM, but it made up for by the rare Heartless minibosses, plus Xemnas being a cool bonus fight.
KH is a marriage between combat and exploration. As a franchise, it’s closer to something like Dark Souls than it is to DMC. Even then, action games like DMC3 and Ninja Gaiden Black have more complex level design than KH2.
As for skills being useful. How about the fact that basic combos and reflect are so powerful that absolutely nothing counters them. Also, because 2’s damage cap is more lenient than KH1’s damage cap, you can absolutely melt a boss’ health with decent stats. Most story bosses only have about 4-5 healthbars. With a high enough Magic stat, that means you can kill them in 2 or 3 Reflects. I recently fought Armour Xemnas 2 on Critical and shaved off almost 50% of his total health with a single Reflect.
>KH is a marriage between combat and exploration
No it isn't, everything outside combat is completely irrelevant, any rewards you get for "exploration" are for combat. There is zero challenge to the platforming, it isn't integrated into combat like in proper platformers, there is no routing, etc. KH2 has no no routing beyond world order (which KH2 does better) which didn't come close to impacting the game like routing in classic RE, Souls, Doom or even older FF's and all the rewards you get from exploration are for combat.
A game that could be described as being about "exploration" is something like Resident Evil where traversing maps filled with enemies with limited resources is the core gameplay.
>it’s closer to something like Dark Souls than it is to DMC
Souls has aerial combat since when?
>Even then, action games like DMC3 and Ninja Gaiden Black have more complex level design
Who cares, combat is the only relevant part of all of those games. DMC3 is mostly combat like KH2 and so is NGB's better sequel.
Any enemy in the game.
>and reflect are so powerful that absolutely nothing counters them
You don't even know how the game works dumb fuck.
>KH1's damage cap
>fucking over slower single hit attacks is good design
LMAO brainless monkey
>you can absolutely melt a boss’ health with
LV.1 stats. And that's a good thing.
>you can kill them in 2 or 3 Reflects
You can't, but if you can it should be easy enough to post yourself beating Port Royal mob fights, Grim Reaper 1, Grim Reaper 2, AS Zexion, AS Vexen, Data Zexion, Data Xigbar, Data Vexen, Data Roxas, Lingering Will, Groundshaker Hades, Jafar, Hostile Program, 1k Heartless, Xigbar, Cups, TR Hot Rods, PotC medallion fight, GR2, CoR, Sephy, Groundshaker, Solar Sailor, Xemnas 1, Xemnas 2, Saix, Vexen, Zexion etc with just Reflect then.
you're arguing with a kh2 sperg whos also a dbz super sperg. he is most likely of mexican descent. there's no point. kh1 chads shouldn't stoop to stinky pig levels
Back in 2012 when I first played DS1 Artorias gave me major KH2 vibes.
>you can absolutely melt a boss’ health with decent stats
FINAL FORM FIRAGA
Kh2 FM+ in critical mode (lots of new abilities but capped at health, die easily)
Birth By Sleep
watch the rest on youtube
>introduces bullshit noone gives a rat's ass about
>love 1 and 2
>hate all the spinoffs except birth by sleep and 358/2
>DDD is one of the worst games i ever played
is 3 good? i've given up any hope of playing a good KH again
>is 3 good?
It's decent. Not as good as 1 and 3 but better then all the other games.
It ruins sora's character even further but the gameplay is still solid. I didn't care for about half of the worlds and the gummi stuff is a bit shit. The story is nonsensical.
Its good with mods. The combat is completely overhauled. You have access to almost all the characters with their AI and custom moveset editions. Critical mode and main story is fixed with ReMind NG+. Physics and movement fixed, FF15s capital is almost finished; the Coliseum is mostly complete. It's only worth it with mods. Vanilla and ReMind are shit
>is 3 good?
Arguably pretty good.
I would say it is better than all the non-numbered games, but still not as good as 1 or 2.
The developers showed a lot of improvement in the DLC though, so I have high expectations for 4 being a lot better on a base level than 3 at launch.
And none of that shit fucking matters because the base game (AKA 90% of the game’s content) is so easy that you can just mash X to win and ignore every other mechanic. Critical mode also wasn’t even a thing in the base game, and it’s arguably easier than Proud Mode because of your buffed stats and AP.
Also, KH1 introduced Revenge Values, not 2. 2 just made the Revenge Values stricter.
>And none of that shit
[DELUSIONAL SCHIZO RAMBLING]
The main campaign in KH2 is very dangerous, especially at LV.1. Shan Yu's bird has the potential to kill you even if you're in control of him and the mobs meaning you might have to react with a limit or Drive, you can'tjust autopilot it. If Barbossa breaks out of a Blizzard stunlock and is in Jack's range the fight is basically over. If Dark Thorn goes invisible and starts leaping all over the place you can be in trouble. Hostile Program's attacks in the latter part of the fight are quite ridiculous and you can waste freezes if you don't know what you're doing because of his HP Gates. Hades Escape, Pete 2, Jafar, The Experiment, Groundshaker, Demyx, Xaldin, Xigbar... damn this game mogs.
>and it’s arguably easier than Proud Mode
Hence "Zero Exp" in the Ability list.
>KH1 introduced Revenge Values
No, it has basic hit counters. That's not the same as RVs dumb fuck.
Demyx is one of the easiest level 1 bosses because of how hard he gets mogged by blizzard resist armour.
KH1 >>>>> 2
The only things 2 does better is the Gummi Ship and minigames. Everything else is downgraded and casualised so bad that they needed an FM version to “fix” it (if by “fix”, you mean just adding more superbosses and an optional dungeon and calling it a day).
>The only things 2 does better is
>Everything is downgraded
KH2 has better summons (more complex and all offensively useful with stronger pieces of tech than super attacks), magic (more nuanced with a remixed MP system to promote different offensives and upgraded variants *Aero into Reflect, Magnet laughs at any other CC magic in vidya, etc*), abilities (keyblade combos upgraded, more finishers and no RNG, more contextual strikes, more customization, more properties, Revenge Values, zero problem connecting with anything, alternate square hits, Drive movesets), enemy design has more moves, gimmicks and bosses have more tricks, Limits are vastly expanded, and so forth with a host of new features (Drives and RCs to name a few).
>Gummi Ship and minigames
The fact that you even care about this says enough.
>The fact that you even care about this says enough.
The fact that you don’t care about this says enough. There’s more to KH than the combat. 2 has really polished combat mechanics, but most of the game isn’t designed to take advantage of that fact. It’s the same problem that MGSV suffered from.
The lacklustre level design also puts a damper on the sense of adventure and gives you fewer reasons to revisit old worlds.
>There’s more to KH than the combat
No there isn't, everything else is a shallow time waster. Do you think gummi ship has depth? Play an actual shmup you fucking idiot
>most of the game isn’t designed to take advantage of that fact
Name any part of the game except the few short minigames.
>everything else is a shallow time waster
Do you skip cutscenes too?
No fucking shit. Are you 12 years old? If I want to watch movies I'll watch Sorcerer (1977) or The Emperor’s Naked Army Marches On or something actually good, not a fucking electronic toy featuring mickey mouse.
I kneel, Jiren Hearts-sama.
Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix on Critical is probably one of the greatest gaming experiences of all time.
>tfw playing KH2 on the PS2 after only having played KH1
Played the entire series for the first time a few years ago, can confirm, nothing else can compare
Cringedom Sharts was never good and would've flopped if it wasn't for the Disney shit.
3 is still better
wonder why the dev team couldn't recapture the magic of KH2's combat.
Every game after 2 had the retarded command code crap
3 got rid of that crap but for some reason didn't feel as good as 2's
I still wanted a revamped BBS combat style for KH3. I thought the command styles were at least as cool as drive forms, if not cooler. Plus the ability to keep the form for an infinite amount of time by just backing off for a bit was great.
People sleep on Command Styles. Dark Impulse and Ghost Drive in particular we’re broken and fun.
I also love how Terra unlocks more Darkness related powers in the late game as he gets corrupted more and more. That’s some great gameplay and story integration (which, to be fair, is some KH as a series has always excelled at since the first game).
I found the command style stuff to be okay.
All they needed to do was use KH2 combat but give Sora keyblade armor so it was "new"
I think they were going along the right lines of it being an amalgamation of all the previous games. The problem is just the floatiness, and the fact that every enemy is so spongey.
>scar becomes a heartless
>powerful enough to retain his true body, something only xehanort has done
>xarcs never shows up
That's a plothole.
>Riku got consumed by darkness enough to change his physical form, in KH1 and KH2
>Kurix never shows up
Riku never became a Heartless— He just channeled the power of darkness that he learned from Maleficent. Also, even after he was possessed by Ansem, the FM exclusive cutscene of Riku in the RoD has Mickey explain to him that his strength of heart was the only reason he never became a Heartless.
Scar is pretty much a plothole though. Unless you want to count the Groundshaker’s Scar clones as Nobodies.
Well, Riku did lose his body in KH1, right? When Ansem fully takes over, Riku's body changed and he somehow reappears in the RoD.
i guess riku was special? like he never gave over and became heartless he just used some of ansems power
its my headcanon that clayon became a nobody and the invisible lizard was his heartless
Clayton being a Nobody is just straight up fact.
The implication was that Clayton was killed by Stealth Sneak after leaving the tent and Stealth Sneak was just puppeteering his corpse. Hence “Not Clayton”.
Trinity Limit in KH2 has 4 parts each with their own distinct purpose and distinct mechanics:
>Break is a set number of hits that instantly teleports you to an enemy and unlike the other elements does not wrack up more hits against more enemies, giving it an element of consistency and acting as a baseline hitcount
>Ultima hits the whole screen, sucks enemies towards you and can trigger extra hits from Magnet,
>Major Drive is an aimed attack that can wrack up even more hits (for both itself and Magnet) than Ultima but requires an additional element of execution, has a much smaller hitbox and doesn't draw things towards you.
>Begin Combo is a x10 modifier hit plus an additional low modifier hit for each individual hit the other parts of the Limit scored.
Which makes Trinity Limit (KH2) a highly unique, complex attack that deals more damage to individual enemies the more enemies you nuke with it, on top of it having high hitcount low modifier damage scaling which grants it additional utility.
Trinity Limit in KH3 has... wait, it's not even in the game.
i wonder if kh4 will have atlantica return but with the negress
This game was insane.
Sad to see Ganker still being so childish about great games.
I feel like the collective IQ of this place is dropping by a few points each year. It has been especially noticeable the last couple of years.

I understand the arguments as to why 2 > 1, and even I'm a bit conflicted. I feel like 1 has a fair few slower parts, but something about it, I just enjoy so much. I like how the world rooms are connected, it isn't a straight line, at least not always. There are puzzles in a lot of rooms, even if only small. Reasons to revisit worlds. The rewards feel rewarding.
1 was simple and clean
>Utada Hikaru wrote Simple and Clean as a song about how life and love seem simple at first but are actually complicated and hard to understand. Life is complicated. Love is complicated. The world is complicated. etc etc
>This song was chosen by Nomura because he wanted to write a series that appears simple but has a lot more layers than people realize
>Thousands of retards worldwide interpreted the song wrong for years because normies don't know how to use their brains and how to read the actual meaning in the lyrics
Namine or Xion
Which one is the MOST autistic?
Of course you'd go with the original right?
Xion every day.
The best there is

Where is the info on 4?
If only the level plots weren't so cringe.
>If only the level plots weren't so cringe.
The Disney worlds were kino in KH1. It was only in 2 that they descended into episodic filler.
Remind was a return to form. I believe in 4.
Hopefully they realize what they did wrong with transformations and return to something resembling drive forms(but without ability grinding)
I don’t think Keyblade transformations were necessarily a bad thing. Normally it wasn’t too bad to build up the bar in battle. Though I understand preferring the system of picking and choosing when you could transform. True though, that limiting the forms could make it so they could be more fleshed out.
The bar thing is bad for a few reasons, but the transformations themselves were also ass, almost up there with attraction commands in being all style no substance, playing almost identically to normal gameplay and just being a temporary flat bonus that you don't even have to worry about getting the most out of since you can just switch keyblades to store them
You loom really dumb
I think keyblade transformations loom really dumb. Yes, even on Lingering Will, who I like.
Changing metal into a gooey whip looks and frankly is, stupid. A hammer? A gun? They fundamentally aren't even Keyblades anymore.
They completely abandoned the original destiny island crew and showed that they'll never be relevant or even have many interactions.
KH3 showed that Disney has a stranglehold on this IP and will literally use its levels as commercials for their products.
KH games are dead. Spinoffs on obscure handheld may still have some freedom but the mainline games are truly dead.
They've always been commercials
KH1 really wasn't. All the Disney and FF integrations were at least a decade old and they were used naturally within the plot.
KH3 has a shot for shot recreation of the scene in Frozen. That's the kind of thing I'm talking about.
>at least a decade old
Tarzan is 1999 and FFX came out the year before KH1. Frozen and BH6 are the only KH3 worlds that came out after the game was announced and Frozen is really the only world thats terrible because the team was so stingy.
Since when was the original destiny island crew ever relevant? In the first game kairi is unconscious 90% of the time and Riku is evil
In KH1 you spend a lot of time with them on the island. Sora dreams about Kairi a lot and you can talk to her after you rescue her. Kairi saves Sora from being a heartless and is there reaching out ot Sora at the very end.
Riku same thing on the island and spread throughout the game with a large presence in Hollow Bastion.
Naturally, those two continually lost relevance in future installments but KH3 could have changed that, as it was a finale of sorts. Instead it reconfirmed that they will never be present to the same degree.
i miss the kabal of disney villains in 1
KH1 and KH2 were cool
the rest was shit
I played them all the first time like a month ago
Revenge value is autism but I guess it does add consistency to fights
If you want to see the changes from KH1 -> 2 -> 3 then read the manga. 3's manga feels like it's almost word for word from the game. It's sad to see.
>hate the 3d version of chain of memories
>get to rikus campaign and the game becomes 11/10
deck system > normal combat
I played through Re:Com on Proud a few years ago, and I feel like I never had time to improve my deck by a lot, or get a lot of unique cards. I just beat everything. I felt like there was more reason to get more cards on the GBA version, but to be fair, it's been over a decade since I played that.
with sora you could just spam whatever sleight you like by mashing triangle, throw the odd 0 in there to break a sleight and it was boring
riku you were forced to use a different deck every world and it was actually fun
