I've been really enjoying 魔女と暮らす but it only has 15 or so chapters so I'll probably done with it soon
>ジーク
Some of their choices when "translating" foreign words seem so off to me.
If it's "sieg," then surely シーグ would be a much better choice? Same thing with "fantasy," where they use ファンタジー instead of ファンタシー.
I really don't follow the logic here.
I speak a bit of German myself, and I just don't agree with that. A quick search for other people pronouncing it also confirms this.
It definitely starts with an S sound, not a J. The K or G part is more up for debate, though.
it's a Japanese thing to pronounce Sieg (zzeeeg) as jigg
it caused a bit of confusion with the main heroine of Dungeon Travelers 2-2, since her name's spelled Siena while the spoken name sounds like Gina
>村長 shows up >I read faster than the VN voices so I read it as むらおさ and then the voice comes in as そんちょう >a day later playing another game >村長 shows up >read it as そんちょう and then the voice comes in as むらおさ
You know what? Frick you.
You read dialogue? I've always just used it as listening practice.

NTA, but you're just straight up wrong. Whatever German you know is clearly not good enough to be making judgements like this.
I can't say. It's just what I've always done. Reading and listening comprehension are two (almost) entirely different skills, so I'd rather give them each my full attention than split it up.
>Reading and listening comprehension are two (almost) entirely different skills
No, that's fair, I completely agree. I always just considered voiceacting in a VN to be secondary, to be honest. I prefer listening to anime or videos. But obviously both ways are valid.
Personally I think VN's are for reading and the voices are secondary. Most people like
>村長 shows up >I read faster than the VN voices so I read it as むらおさ and then the voice comes in as そんちょう >a day later playing another game >村長 shows up >read it as そんちょう and then the voice comes in as むらおさ

will end up reading at least part of the text instinctively before the voice goes through it. The anon you are replying to is kinda weird to be honest but whatever works works I guess.

It's on any board, but Ganker is the worst for it, presumably because it's the most underage board along with Ganker. People who have no other skills or interests desperately want to be seen as intelligent or learned within the field they are interested in. Which is often Japanese because this place is full of weebs. The sad thing is that most of them aren't even learning it out of genuine interest, but rather just to gatekeep harder, which is why they end up dropping it.

Is that so surprising?
If there’s one thing Gankerirgins are good at, it’s claiming superiority over literally anything. You must’ve seens dozens of examples of people misspelling a word or something and people leaping at the opportunity to call them ESL, yeah?
This is the same thing, only cranked up a couple of notches.
I'm aware that my own German is trash, which is why I checked several videos of people pronouncing it, all of whom started with something closer to Si- than to Ji-.
What they're saying is /ziːk/. Turn on your IME and try typing "zi". What character comes out? It'll give you a better idea of how Japanese people think about adapting loanwords into their syllabary, though it's not always consistent. Make a connection between Chinese pinyin Hànzì (汉字) and Japanese 漢字, as well.
I'm aware that it's /ziːk/, that's not what I'm arguing against.
I was not aware that ジ could be pronounced as a zi sound, however, hence my confusion. I have only ever heard it used for ji (like in ジグソー for jigsaw). I was under the impression that the way to type out that sound would be ズィ.
My confusion at the spelling of ジーク was because I thought that was pronounced Ji-ku, not zi-ku.
All of these:
https://www.dlsite.com/maniax/circle/profile/=/maker_id/RG14778.html
A lot of effort put into these, but less and less with each game, and balancing is ever easier.
Don't bother using Google-kun, I already did and it didn't help. And I already went through the entire work where these are used, and they're not mentioned a single time. It's a title from a very, very old work from 1981, which I think is French.
>which I think is French.
It sounds French reading it phonetically, so if you're trying to translate them into English, I think that's where the problem lay
I'm not trying to translate them into English, I'm just trying to write them without resorting to romaji. Like '禁じられた遊び' is the Japanese title for 'Jeux Interdits'. The problem is that there's no single instance of those kana used for any names online.
>why is japanese so autistic about "muh politeness"
They never let go of the feudal hierarchy that the west did during the Enlightenment. Because Japan "civilized" so late, during the Meiji Restoration, they simply haven't had enough time since then to develop socially as much as the west has. That and Japan being a strictly group-based society while 99% of the west is individualistic. Presumably the reason for that also goes back to when Japan was ruled region by region, but I'm not sure.
Supposedly western 'individualism' can be traced back to when the Catholic Church banned cousins from marrying. The moment that happened, filial piety fell out of fashion in the west. It's also why those nutters on /misc/ blame israelites, since israelites still have powerful family units.
I got pic related recently. It's a cute and fun roguelike made by some overworked salaryman in his spare time. Only bought it because it has no english version which would force me to play it in japanese, also it's just like 4 bucks.
Gameplay wise it's kinda basic. I don't like how the difficulty goes from 0 to 100 after around 10 floors and how small the inventory is, feels like the best strategy is just to rush to floor 8-9, get your shit from there and then prepare for assrape on the next floors.
Other than that I can't get enough of these ドット絵 graphics, and I like how the "magic rings" that are usually in roguelikes, are earrings here that the cute anime girl wears.
?si=sXg9dYhMpQrZ1EBy
I wanted to hipster it up, but it's a major drag to play. It's supposed to be a Sakura Wars clone, and it does technically have dating and character endings, but it's as barebones as possible.

These are the ones I've finished. Haven't played Hearts, Innocence and Tempest enough to compare them. But I'm going to play them next.

I don't even know what to say. Rebirth is the absolute low point in the franchise for skits and pacing, and one of the lowest points for story. The battle system is fun, but since the game becomes nearly a visual novel after Geyorkias that doesn't matter.
I don't know that yet. Right now I'm maybe at ~30% of the game, just reached the ワルトゥ and ミリッツァ fight (don't even know how to write them in romaji) in Babirograd and I'm having fun. Sure, you're right about the pacing, there's a lot of talking, but I'm long used to it.
