Chapter Master

>latest patch adds the Unorthodox personality type to your pool of captains
>get one captain with it
>his only decent stat is Tech-Use, which is mostly useless on non-Techmarines
>decide to put him on the council anyway just to try it out
>later on get an event where we discover some xenotech
>obviously the Unorthodox guy suggests we start using it ourselves
>I decide to play along with him
>it's a nice boost to battles
>later on the Inquisition wants to inspect my ship
>we're so fricked now
>advisors are split between hastily destroying the xenotech or just letting the Inquisition know that we have it onboard
>the Unorthodox guy's advice is that he can hide it from them
>against my better judgment I let him try it
>the xenotech is removed from the armory
>the Inquisition performs their inspection and finds nothing
>the event ends
>the xenotech is still missing from the armory
>next turn get a distress call event from the Inquisition
>one of their ships has sustained critical damage
>apparently some kind of xenotech onboard their ship went haywire
>they suspect a xeno assault
>they're requesting assistance
>some of the advisors want to help them
>Unorthodox guy suggests we blow them the frick up for harboring xenotech
>I simply end transmission and go about my business

I would've done this one purely because it's nice to kill those uppity homosexuals.

    >start next to a huge tau system.
    >take a few of their planets for teh lolz
    >tau fleets start pouring towards me
    >closest is 47 turns away
    >biggest is 62 turns away
and the big one will most certainly wipe me out. I wish there was a way to say: hey guys, see that frickhuge fleet coming to our system? Can we get some help? Maybe next update.

In the meantime I'm just going to poke the orcs next door and have them fight the tau when they finally arrive.

Oh wow, I haven't thought about this game in ages. This brings back memories. I had this super-chapter way back where I had crushed everything in the sector except for one Orc system I kept around to farm for XP.

One thing I didn't much like about the game is that it really encouraged you to keep the entire chapter together in one place and deploy everyone at once. I would have liked to see something that encouraged the split up company here, another company there sort of deployment that you tend to see in the setting.

But now I have to remake my custom chapter.

I wanted to rant at OP for remaking a shitty pointless thread, but...
This turned out much, much better than expected.

these days I'd rather just play ROSIGMA mod for the OG X-COM

      Anonymous

      here since /tg/ is lazy:
      https://mod.io/g/openxcom/m/rosigma
check out the gallery even if you don't play it, the sprites are just delightful

      Anonymous

ROSIGMA is shit though. The 40k mod was already not remotely balanced and full of bizarre things like lasguns chewing up armour, but ROSIGMA just has stuff thrown in with no real rhyme or reason. The sprites are great but the actual game design is awful.

why not just mod chaos gate?
        or space crusade?

        Anonymous

as opposed to Chapter Master which is a totally balanced game with zero game-breaking bugs?
ROSIGMA is a perfectly fine mod, frick off.

        >you can play as marines, imperial guard, sisters, arbites or the inquisition (both inquisitors and grey knights themselves and their auxillaries)
        >all lovingly detailed with their absurdly long gear lists and promotion chains and vehicles
        >all abhumans, stormtroopers, several assassin variants, officers and medics and special roles for every faction, scouts and dreadnoughts and primaris, kriegers with their hauled mortars, frateris and crusaders and repentias and living saints, penitent engines, servo-skulls and servitors and cyber-mastiffs etc etc, all playable tactically
        >drop pods and bikes and sentinels and any vehicle the engine allows
        >if that's not enough you can go radical/traitor and recruit the enemies you capture

        >you fight all chaos factions, ALL chaos factions
        >including the legions with their unique sprites/units/gear/abilities
        >khornates, plague marines, rubrics, noise marines, word bearers, alpha legionnaires in disguise, iron warriors with shields
        >cultists and traitor guards in all flavors of devoted or undivided or just renegade, including mutants
        >sorcerers and lesser demons of each god
        >heretical sisters in all flavors (devs have a real boner for sisters)
        >beastmen and chaos squats
        >oldschool hrud (space skaven)
        >full genestealer cults from the purestrains to the brood brothers infiltrated as workers or arbites or riding heavy vehicles, reductus saboteurs and kelermorphs and infected sisters medicae for the memes
        >orkz in all their glory, boyz, 'ard boyz, burna boyz, stormboyz, tankbustaz, flash gitz, lootaz, freebootaz, nobz, mega nobz, warbosses, killa kanz, koptaz, mek and weirdboyz, with all their goofy gear including tankhammer (the rokkit-on-a-stick, suicidal as it should be)
        >some eldar too, for both fighting and allying with
        >everyone sprited and statted and geared up and voiced using samples from DoW and co

but sure, it's shit because focused lasgun fire melts armor eventually and muh balance or whatever

        Anonymous

It does have a bit of an issue with balance.
The random chaos sacrifice time bombs are very !FUN!
Distinctly remember the Genestealer Cult terror mission where after 10 turns I got greeted by a dozen Tzeentch Demons exploding out of the top floors. They promptly coated half of the map in flames, leaving alive only my Sentinel, Comissar and a couple of Veterans.
But it's still fun, especially with the Brutal AI mod. You do have to bump down the enemy count or be ready to get raped by the AI. Plus sometimes AI decides that camping is the best option, and at that point, the mission becomes a bit of a chore on large maps

      >How does one accomplish actually playing it? I get buttfricked by nurglings on the very first mission. It seems like I only get two sets of muhreen armor?

why not just OG chaos gate?

How exactly do I stop my assault marine contingent from getting BTFO'd whenever they go into battle? Seems like I'm always short of assault marines but hardly ever lose anyone else.

the same way you prevent the enemy from annihilating your two dozen vehicles on contact:
      by not bringing them.

The default 20 per company just isn't enough. Double their numbers and give them bikes and storm shields and they'll facetank hormagaunts all day.

Someone actually made this game? Last time I heard about this it was still just a meme of an idealized 40k game.

Yep. I'm not seeing the personality stuff OP is talking about though. Maybe I fricked something up. Do you need game maker to run it too, or just to contribute?

      >Someone actually made this game? Last time I heard about this it was still just a meme of an idealized 40k game.
Several years ago someone actually started work on a playable PC version but got hit with a C&D order from GW.
