To be fair, everything cringe I encountered in the game so far is party internal (~14h). The vampire guy, the wizard and Ghost Dog (1999) feel super fricking gay, because they're obviously written to appeal to certain female audiences. The female green thing comes off like a child trying to act tough sometimes, but isn't too bad (so far). Shadowheart is OK.
So ultimately, If you want a male char that isn't a pushover, it's gotta be yours. Which sucks because there is no player dialogue.

I feel kind of cheated, I'm pretty sure that I've been fricked out of camp events simply because I'm very efficient with my rests.
Maybe I should be long resting after every fight, then half resting when I don't have food anymore because a half rest is still better than a short rest, since the only downside is no more short rests.
This is one thing I feel like was a design mistake. Having so many dialogues focused on requiring you to constantly camp is annoying.
The worst thing is, that they clearly could have made them simply requiring RETURNING to camp, because I do that a lot to swap party members and they even had it work that way with Gale's magic addiction. Which was pretty annoying because that event proc'd every time I returned to camp (I suspect due to Gale's massively high opinion of me) despite me haven't taking one ingame rest yet.
I just do partial rest or whatever it's called when you refuse to use camp supplies anytime a major event happens, like using the tadpole on a cultist or dealing with a note worthy event like finding the patrol or the drained pig. There seems to be no real punishment for that kind of resting and it wastes no food.
Technically there's no reason not to do that at all. Food's basically a weight sink.
It's used in a few recipes and it's money to be had as well, If I had to chose wasting it to recover when I don't need it vs getting 100 gold, I'll take the gold every time.
So get soooo much gold and camp supplies. I started using spells a lot and camp whenever and the fights go a whole lot quicker.

Most of the companions have such elaborate backgrounds that makes it sound like you shouldn't be meating them as weak as they are. They should be level 6-8, at least. Not level 1. Gale's is the most ridiculous by far. They do lampshade it by saying they fell from grace or the tadpole sucked out their powers but they sure do sound like special OC stories.
To be fair they are exactly what you'd expect of player characters in nu-DnD. Players create these elaborate backstories of having been hunting powerful vampires and demons in the forests of Whereverthefrick for decades but then get BTFO by a goblin at level 1.
Every time I play tabletop d&d I always make a nobody everyman chatacter so that my story is one of a man rising to the challenge and becoming a hero out of necessity and purely through his own will.
It's just more fun to be a grounded, average Joe thrust into fantastical circumstances and writing your legend one adventure at a time, than being a super special snowflake with a ten page backstory of accomplishments before you've even begun the game.

If you play the other origins this is made clear that you were much more powerful (Gale, and Wyll's Imply they were at least level 18s with the powers name dropped) and that the magic of the tadpole is suppressing you greatly. What is causing this is spoiled in act two if you are playing Dark Urge which is why Swen didn't want people playing anything other than "Tav" as their first play through, the big twists are ruin very early on.

Breaking the Vengeance oath is both extremely easy and very hard to do. It basically gives you the most freedom to be a dick while giving you the best kit of the classes, on the other hand if you really wanted to be an Oathbreaker, you can save the Goblin in the starting village.

Altogether almost all your stats are maxed, you still have a decent equip load because human, you can drink a elixir of giant strength to suddenly have 21 strength to flex on the nerds, your warlock spells/abilities ensure you have stupid amounts of temp HP at all times, and enemies take other character's turn worth of damage when they hit you in melee, you have infinite mage armor and can use any weapon in the game, have a multi hit ranged shove that's also your prime DPS, and you can make full use of any weapon attack you want, so pack any artifact you wish.

Honestly, in many ways, the multiplayer component kind of drags the system down. Please tell me there's some QoL mods.
Teleportation/warping should really be only available from these glowing rune points. It just feels weird zooming across the map closer to your quest. Granted there's no real change to already explored locations, but you can miss NPCs and party banter if you do.

There is a room filled with smokepowder barrels. Take as many as you can carry, place two next to each boss (drow and hobgoblin are the harder fights) and then you can blow them up for instant kills. Hopefully the xp can get you all to level 4. Get Haslin in for the goblin priestess fight to make it easier.

Tieflings are not innately evil in the setting. Both the "Paladins" and Wyll tell you they are hunting a Devil (which look similar, but are ultimately different and objecrively evil beings) when they mention Karlach. Wyll believed Karlach was a Devil due to his pact only meaning he can be forced to kill "Devils, Soulless, and HEARTLESS beings" the last one effectively being a loophole she can use to force him after Karlach. The Paladins are under the control of a Devil, willingly or not, and lying about Karlach to make their "quest" seem legitimate.

wizards have so much more than shoot damage ball at enemy. you get flesh to stone, FLY is a level 3 spell, circle of death, cloudkill, tentacles, laughter
everyone saying there aren't enough good spells just tells me its your first time playing wizard, or dnd in general.
It always cracks me up when people b***h that wizards early on are trash. Not only do you have a god tier spell in Magic Missles, a 100% hit every time, but shit like Sleep, Laughter, Crown of Madness, Charm, Fly, etc etc...all those CC/utility spells you get early on, are insane when used properly. And that's not mentioning the comboing you can do like casting Web then setting it ablaze, or chromatic orbs for surfaces -> nuke spells to blow up the surfaces (lightning on water, etc).
Don't forget Cloud of Daggers, literally a more autistic Magic Missiles

That engine in her chest is going to explode and kill her because it quite literally CANNOT function in the "Material Plane" that you're currently residing in. It only works while she's back home in Hell and she refuses to go back.
She dies at the end by being blown up and you can't say her. She's meant to be this tragic love interest or something like that which you know you're unable to help no matter what you do.

Yes. You can kill nearly anyone in the game, including quest NPCs and companions, at any given time.
You can replace them with "custom" companions that you can't change their appearance of but can change the stats as you want, about 2 hours in. 30 minutes or so in if you b-line right to the room where you unlock the NPC, and then frick off to camp instead of fighting the mobs that spawn.

That said if you wan to do a full party of customized companions start a new game on multiplayer and multi-box the game on your PC to run 3 additional clients of it, create the characters and join on your main MCs game, and with some fricking around you should end up with 4 custom characters during the tutorial that all persist afterwards.
So If I want a party of only humans that aren't gay or cringe or black I have...one companion I can pick and mine?

You don't. There's no alignment in the game. Best you can do is murder random quest NPCs and side with the "bad guys" any chance you get - like letting the snake kill the kid that stole the idol (if you can even do that) or siding with the Goblins/Drow and not the Druids/Tieflings.
kill all your companions and take their tadpoles for yourself.
kill random people and steal all the time.
playing a solo character is a cakewalk with only one more additional tadpole.
