>poorly thought-out gameplay, which actually makes it a puzzle game (need to play missions a very specific way to win) >any criticism can be deflected by saying "but it's a hecking rouge-lite! you can just start a new run!"
More devs should hide behind a genre quirk when making shitty games.
Holy filtered. Each mission is like a puzzle, that's the point. You don't have to play it a certain way but there's always a perfect move for each engagment which changes every time.

Same problem with the game the Grimrock guys made. Uninteresting puzzle game masked as something completely different. Even worse are the "reinforcements" where you can't 100% a mission without playing it twice because of unpredictable changing objectives that there's no way to prepare for.
If you want something similar to Front Mission or other good turn based tacticals with cool abilities, look no further than Last Spell. Lots of variety, lots of enemies, and you can win your way.
>FTL devs announce new game >brief excitement >game comes out >it's not very good >sales reflect it >worm in advertisement for your new game into FTL >sales still don't move up
It's a good puzzle game. I wholly acknowledge that. Every single thing that happens is something that, with enough foresight, can be stopped or interrupted. Actually playing it however is like dragging my balls across a barbed wire. Every death, no matter how much my fault, feels completely out of my control and horseshit. Therefore, it's a terrible game and I cannot recommend it to anybody except people who hate themselves.
>Every death, no matter how much my fault, feels completely out of my control and horseshit
I can't tell if this post is suppose to be sarcastic or if it's something a Ganker melted mind actually came up with in earnest
The game's only real problem is that it's a little too easy, and it's annoying because as a puzzle game it should be simple from a design perspective to make it harder - just add more variables and things to consider per stage. Bigger levels with more tiles, more enemies spawning, and more player units to control. The game is at its peak when it feels like you need to spend 10+ minutes per turn considering every possibility, which is also why blitzkrieg and the lightning whip are some of the most fun aspects of the game.
yeah, you're not wrong , but I always felt FTL was a game that would still draw you in and you could just keep trying. It scratched the "one more time" itch perfectly for me. Captains Edition mod is pretty much fricking horseshit, but now we have the multiverse mod so its a nonissue
>Incredibly simplistic compared to FTL.
Wow i did a run with hack cloak flak! I cant wait to win my next run! Maybe this time ill get hack then flak then cloak so complex1!11!!!1!
This homierdly behaviour is why the company deserves to fail.
>Incredibly simplistic compared to FTL.

FTL has a very steep learning curve and even at top skill and knowledge you still can get sacked by a strong spawn, and that's just normal
not only that, getting the crystal cruiser is just bullshit rng
Into the Breach is actually fun because you actually own your mistakes
Needed more content all the runs feel the same for each team the amount of variance between runs is too low for the game to be fun after beating it 4 times. It doesn't help that most teams consist of
The Carry who does most of the work, the second guy who's useful from the start but can't carry a run and the malformed midget who you desperately try to get value out of.
You all are too hard on it. Not being an indie game you can play obsessively for 6 months is normal. I played it for a week, maybe 2, beat it with most of the teams, and that was plenty for a $20 game
For me, it's Steel Judoka
Your face is fun
This game was so undercooked, FTL was a fluke.
Holy filtered. Each mission is like a puzzle, that's the point. You don't have to play it a certain way but there's always a perfect move for each engagment which changes every time.
>this game is boring
>THAT'S THE POINT!!!!
have a nice day.
If you find puzzles boring, that's on you bro. Maybe stop smoking weed
>puzzles
Kek what a weird excuse for a bad game.
So you think puzzle games are bad?
I think Into The Breach is a shit game.
Not answering the question just concedes the point
what's shit about it
It's boring.
I disagree, what makes it boring?
It's not fun.
>le hecking filtered!
I beat the game and have more hours on it than you.
>there's always a perfect move for each engagment
This is factually untrue
By that I mean, optimal. Often a sticky situation has that PERFECT move that makes you feel like a bigbrain
>poorly thought-out gameplay, which actually makes it a puzzle game (need to play missions a very specific way to win)
>any criticism can be deflected by saying "but it's a hecking rouge-lite! you can just start a new run!"

i felt the same way about deadbolt
man what a disappointing game that was
Marketed as a turn based strategy game but it's actually a puzzle game. I was disappointed
Same problem with the game the Grimrock guys made. Uninteresting puzzle game masked as something completely different. Even worse are the "reinforcements" where you can't 100% a mission without playing it twice because of unpredictable changing objectives that there's no way to prepare for.
This. It looks decent but I was expecting something similar to Front Mission or SRW.
Define the difference
Why was there never FTL clones made? Such a fun game.
There were made multiple times, but they all suck compared to the original one.
I beat this game on my very first run. I’m a moron. This game should not have been so easy.
maybe don't play on easy and only go for 2 islands
If you want something similar to Front Mission or other good turn based tacticals with cool abilities, look no further than Last Spell. Lots of variety, lots of enemies, and you can win your way.
>and you can win your way.
A game that lets you win in any way you like is barely a game at all, and more like a coloring book for midwits
Any way that works? Chess is for midwits too I guess, because there are many strats.
>Chess
>many strats
Anon I...
It's called book of openings, not book of opening.
ItB gives you a lot of choice
Much like FTL your playstyle is mostly determined at the ship/squad select screen
It just expects you to commit
There is only 1 way to win chess, pretty shit game.
>FTL devs announce new game

>sales reflect it
It has 15k reviews on steam, in what world do you believe that is a dissapointment?

>my fault
>out of control
is this an npc or a black guy
>Every death, no matter how much my fault, feels completely out of my control and horseshit
I can't tell if this post is suppose to be sarcastic or if it's something a Ganker melted mind actually came up with in earnest
It's really fun but I always feel bad if I don't perfect an island and restart

really just never enjoyed this game much. definitely a skill issue but felt needlessly brutal to progress in. I have a lot more fun with FTL.
FTL can be pretty brutal too
yeah, you're not wrong , but I always felt FTL was a game that would still draw you in and you could just keep trying. It scratched the "one more time" itch perfectly for me. Captains Edition mod is pretty much fricking horseshit, but now we have the multiverse mod so its a nonissue
FTL have way more RNG, in ItB you only have yourself to blame. Skill issue.
This homierdly behaviour is why the company deserves to fail.
You're not wrong, pandering to morons its way more profitable.
I remember the threads being mad at launch that all of the character portraits are brown and mystery meat
*sip* ah, that takes me back
Incredibly simplistic compared to FTL.

that being said i think the mantis cruiser is the most fun ship, but also the hardest to clear the game with
