It's an RPG. It's also really obvious what's going to happen to your defenseless sidechick if she's sitting in your apartment while you're fighting every faction of vampires in the city.
They should have fricked with your haven a little more to drive it home, and a more obvious threat towards her. Apparently there's a patch where you tell her to stay out of sight and she lives though the last fight.

Cause in VTM vampires are easily the weakest supernatural creature and only get strong after many centuries, and even then they're still completely defenceless half of the time.

Werewolves are very dangerous in a fight but not invincible (The Griffith Park werewolf is ludicrously stat padded), different supernaturals have different strengths and vampires benefit from having easy access to powerful mind/emotion control. Hell Werewolves can't soak silver in any form but their breed form (which is usually one of their weakest forms).
For what it's worth, while less discussed, Werewolf overhypes vampire as well, treating Elders as things to absolutely not be fricked with.

its been ages since i played unmodded but i think even in vanilla if she tells she was followed you have to tell her to make a run for it and never see her again because you missed the earlier dialog option where she wanted to go outside to find you a snack but you can tell her don't go anywhere because of all the shit going down. i remember making dozens of different saves back in the stone age so i could go back if i fricked up. this game is so fun i wasn't even mad if i had to replay to fix things.
