PSP
I got way more mileage out of my PSP back in the day than I ever did my DS due to emulators. Playing through all the classic SNES games and having the GBA's entire library on tap was fricking glorious.
PSP and vita and much more ergonomic hardware but that's all they have going for them.
DSi XL. PSP games you just emulate, DS games using dual screens don't feel natural to emulate on PC so just buy the best OG ds with dual IPS screens for $50 from a jap seller, hack it and get everything free. For 3ds games lowest I've seen a New 3DS XL is $150.
I still have that blue ds. It's mint too because I rarely used it. Was going to trade it into gamestop 12 years ago and they offered me $5 and I said frick no. The Black person employee stole my river city ransom gba game I forgot was in there when I took it.
>The Black person employee stole my river city ransom gba game I forgot was in there when I took it.
seriously? why didn't you confront him when you found out?
Didn't put it together for a whole after that but it's the only thing I can think of. I never too that game out of the gba slot and it was the only gba game I had. I once had a Black person eemployee try to steal a lot of games at funcoland from me because I sent my dad in with a shit load of games. I noticed he still got away with a couple after goin back and called the regional manager. I added a couple higher dollar games to the list of games stolen and they gave me $200 in gift certificates.
I’d say it’s the opposite. PSP games have aged extremely poorly in comparison. The DS had a unique control scheme it took advantage of beautifully. And it’s still the best way to play the games on the system because the hardware and software were married so well.
The PSP games are sort of wonky adaptations of games that would play much better with two sticks. They feel like awkward PS2 downgrade ports. And the emulation on the PSP is really hit or miss — mostly miss. It’s really inaccurate most of the time and the delay and slowdown are noticeable for most action games. RPGs it’s fine.
The PSP shines with games like LocoRoco2 and lumines but the vast majority of the games don’t translate well.
I like both. DS has DQ9 but PSP has MonHun. It’s a close call. Also love games like Loco Roco but then also love games like Rhythm Heaven and Elite Beat Agents and shit. I think there’s more games on the DS side but the original PSP feels nicer than the original DS. I like the DSi XL a lot though. Underrated SKU. Also the little things with the DS like the pictochat rooms were so good. PSP also had access to porn which I hate now, so you know what I’m going with DS. But I still love both.
DS. The dual screens and touch were the basis of a platform richly supported by developers of every size with fun and novel designs that leveraged the new input mechanism. The PSP is cool and has a handful of memorable games, but I don't think it comes close.
3DS? The PSP and 3DS both have a nub. The PSP's console-like game would sometimes need the right side's buttons to be used as a camera. I think Medal of Honor used Select for jumping or something. As for the original DS, it had the touch screen, and it actually made FPS games amazingly fun and fairly precise. CoD on the DS is something you might want to try.
DS because PSP emulation is easy and it's pretty damn tough to emulate a dual-screen device if a game makes good use of it. Even outside of that, most PSP games have ports on the PS2 and later. I have a soft spot for both, but I find myself playing DS games a lot more
DS. The PSP had a few solid games, but a lot of them can and have been replicated on other systems. A lot of DS games are uniquely made for the system and the only system really like it is the 3DS.
And PSP games are better played on Vita anyways. You can natively rebind the controls to have dual analog on damn near any PSP game you want, no mods needed. At least with DS, some games can fairly be argued that they're best played on DS.
The DS and its successor were really feature rich. Imagine blowing to keep a balloon in the air or cleaning off some elements, hearing Mario say bye and great you when you fold the clamshell in certain games and greet you when returning, speaking/interacting verbally to yell Objection in Phoenix Wright (kinda goofy), and folding the screen to complete a map or mark a stamp or the like. So many novelties just in secondary features, and that's before getting to the touch and how two screens affected game design or even expanded the playspace.
PSP
I got way more mileage out of my PSP back in the day than I ever did my DS due to emulators. Playing through all the classic SNES games and having the GBA's entire library on tap was fricking glorious.
I can tell that none of you homosexuals actually played those emulators on PSP. Only installed them and drool over it. PSP is only good for GB/GBC and NES emulation. Most GBA and SNES games have severe performance issues
The GBA slot was a great bonus. Weirdly enough, I'd consider the PSP closer in conventional formfactor to being a GBA+, though the software isn't reminiscent of that platform.
The PSP really has no games that I care for.
And I've found that the multiplat ports are much better on the DS than on the PSP (Transformers, The Sims, etc.)
PSP has Brandish the Dark Revenant and for that it will forever be based in my eyes. That said, The World Ends With You is in my top 3 games of all time so DS still takes the win.
Recently got 2 psps for me and my wife. Already enjoying the coop of mhfu and I’m showing her all the other games from my childhood and games I wish I had
>persona 3 >disgaea 2 >Pokémon emerald rom hack with every gen 1-3 available to catch >mega man zero >ffta >crash bandicoot
Jesus Christ the psp had some bangers by itself but it really was just way ahead of its time.
PSP. Emulation and many great psp games like patapon, mgs, echochrome, ape quest, GTA, Disgaea, makes it a great beefy handheld. I had a red ds mario kart bundle, first, but I have more fond memories with the psp.
This gen was the golden age of handhelds and you cannot change my mind. >DS has incredible library >PSP has decent first party titles and tremendous emulator support letting you bring a frickton of games around across a wide range of genres
they both ruled.
/hbg/ here. Why settle for only one? Just get both
DS + R4 flashcart
PSP + Pandora battery + Magic Memory Stick
use every possible emulator and run games as best you can with the most comfortable experience on both
pirate every single DS and PSP game
If you only buy the consoles + ways to pirate games on both you make an investment for what you would have spent on games but you get the entire libraries for both for free
At some point modding the PSP became 100% free
you can flash custom firmware without a Pandora battery and I think you can even use a patch to convert a regular battery into a Pandora battery in case you brick your PSP. Although since the PS Vita 1000 came out, it has surpassed the original PSP and you can still get the modded PSP experience + modded Vita experience. Then you hardmod it so you can use an SD card with a lot more storage instead and don't have to deal with the proprietary memory cards. The 3DS came out later and it's been modded to hell and back. You can get a newer R4 card and a magnet and flash custom firmware on the 3DS and play every 3DS and DS game for free. The New 3DS has more memory than the old3DS so you're going to want that + it has injectable SNES virtual console/ better SNES emulation.
PS Vita 1000 OLED Model + New 3DS and latest R4 cart is the way to go for the last part of portable consoles before the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck came out. They are the last small portable consoles left and both are better modded. Otherwise, the Steam Deck mogs everything else but it's massive and is basically a tablet. Nintendo Switch for online multiplayer on Nintendo's official servers otherwise it isn't worth it since emulators on PC and Steam Deck run Switch games better.
Was it just me pr did it seem like every single PSP had porn on it? Every time I would buy one back in the day or look on a friends there was ALWAYS some type of porn.
I have never seen one so that would be hard to know.
Nowhere even sold them despite places like Walmart having such a hard on for Sony they sometimes weren't even selling Pokémon games day one like Sony was paying them to only keep the pointlessly large PS section up to date.
>The minimum wage employees at my local Walmart left the new Pokemans in the backroom instead of stocking them at midnight on the day of release because Sony paid them off to promote Final Fantasy XV
I choose the PSP because it includes the whole PS1 library and I am also fond of PSP games. I liked the 3DS a lot, but the original DS had too many games relying on touch gimmicks.
3DS
PSP easily. Base DS is pretty shit.
DS
PeeAssPee has no games

Games vs Japanese Shovelware
Hard pick
PSP

*lowest 3ds WITH an IPS top screen
The one that doesn't require me to claw it.
Well, whatthe hell does that mean?
>He doesn't know
NGMI.
DS
Vita > PSP
Picking up a vita to hack soon
I choose the PSP twice. locked in a room with one bullet and those two I shoot the DS and continue to bludgeon it with the gun itself.
But I have both
PSP as it already includes the GBA library
I still have that blue ds. It's mint too because I rarely used it. Was going to trade it into gamestop 12 years ago and they offered me $5 and I said frick no. The Black person employee stole my river city ransom gba game I forgot was in there when I took it.

i sold my ds to buy a psp in 2005 i regretted it for years

PSP. No analog sticks on the 3DS was the most moronic design in history.

The ds won so the choice has been made. inb4 troon rage

There isn't a single fricking game worth playing on that nintentroony flash game machine
PSP is the best handheld ever made
The PSP is wholesale worse than its successor. It has a better native library, but a sizable chunk are ports.
And PSP games are better played on Vita anyways. You can natively rebind the controls to have dual analog on damn near any PSP game you want, no mods needed. At least with DS, some games can fairly be argued that they're best played on DS.

Psp with homebrew
PSP, easy
PSP
>emulate nes, snes, gb/c, and gba
>native media player (audio and video)
>internet browser
>otaku no radio
I can tell that none of you homosexuals actually played those emulators on PSP. Only installed them and drool over it. PSP is only good for GB/GBC and NES emulation. Most GBA and SNES games have severe performance issues
PSP
>get psp
>jailbreak it
>install nintendo emulator
>best of both worlds
PSP
DS is great for puzzle games tho.
Reminder the first DS was basically a GBA +
All the GBA games were playable on it.
The GBA slot was a great bonus. Weirdly enough, I'd consider the PSP closer in conventional formfactor to being a GBA+, though the software isn't reminiscent of that platform.
Don't care about emulation. Give me that DS.
easily PSP
the porn machine (PSP)
The PSP really has no games that I care for.
And I've found that the multiplat ports are much better on the DS than on the PSP (Transformers, The Sims, etc.)
PSP has Brandish the Dark Revenant and for that it will forever be based in my eyes. That said, The World Ends With You is in my top 3 games of all time so DS still takes the win.
DS, I've never really cared about Sony consoles/handhelds.
hard choice. ds has 3 amazing castlevania games, and can play the 3 from the gba.
psp can play the gba if its hacked tho.
psp.
DS
No matter how much better the hardware of the PSP is the library isn't there. Unless you hack
>PSP
Battery swole and magic card lost
>DS
Lower Screen scratched and hinge broke
Recently got 2 psps for me and my wife. Already enjoying the coop of mhfu and I’m showing her all the other games from my childhood and games I wish I had
>persona 3
>disgaea 2
>Pokémon emerald rom hack with every gen 1-3 available to catch

Jesus Christ the psp had some bangers by itself but it really was just way ahead of its time.
How did you get Monster Hunter running with multiplayer? I thought psps couldn't support modern wifi connections?
coop
adhoc
Play Obscure the Aftermath and some Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity co-op. She'll probably dig customizing her room in Phantasy Star.
Overall PSP wins if you hack it. It also runs gba games well
But physical wise DS phat wins because DS+GBA is a beast library
So, both for the great combo they are
PSP. Emulation and many great psp games like patapon, mgs, echochrome, ape quest, GTA, Disgaea, makes it a great beefy handheld. I had a red ds mario kart bundle, first, but I have more fond memories with the psp.

Handhelds are for homosexuals
PSP can emulate DS easily. So PSP.
You can't choose a fake mock up that never existed to be sold anywhere so obviously the DS.
I use my fat DS as an alarm clock even now.
Was it just me pr did it seem like every single PSP had porn on it? Every time I would buy one back in the day or look on a friends there was ALWAYS some type of porn.

Schizo poster has arrived.
Not schizo in the slightest. If you think having FFXV on day one made sense but not having Sun and Moon day one doesn't then you have issues.
Literally had to go to my LGS to buy them because Walmart for some reason believed it made sense.
And don't tell me it was stock when my fricking LGS had several boxes of each sitting at the cash next to him.
>The minimum wage employees at my local Walmart left the new Pokemans in the backroom instead of stocking them at midnight on the day of release because Sony paid them off to promote Final Fantasy XV
PSP has Miku. Done.
I choose the PSP because it includes the whole PS1 library and I am also fond of PSP games. I liked the 3DS a lot, but the original DS had too many games relying on touch gimmicks.
steam deck
>PSP has Dissidia
>DS has Jump Ultimate Stars
Tough choice
>socom
or
>Mario 64, Goldeneye, Mario Kart, Cod
Hmmmm...
so much soul in that pic, take me back
i had the blue ds
PSP's library only looks bad in hindsight. Being able to play GTA on the go at all was fricking incredible in 2005.
They were both shit
GBA was and always will be the handheld king
