Man, Wizpig has presence. Very few dialogue lines but he absolutely towered over all the characters and had a menacing voice. Even had his ship take shots right at Conker.

Tiny Kong and Dixie Kong replaced Banjo and Conker, respectively.
Tiny Kong's design has been changed to that of a young adult via her new redesign by Nintendo.
Taj and Wizpig are now playable as well.
The colors are not as bright as in the original game.
The opening, credits and starting Adventure Mode change setting.
The voice actors for all the characters changed with the exception of T.T.'s.
Some Balloons are obtained or moved to different locations.
The Silver Coin Challenge is taken out and replaced with the Balloon Touch Challenge (the Silver Coin Challenge exists as a buyable mode for twenty coins. To unlock DS Exclusive tracks in this mode the player must get gold on all Balloon Touch Challenges, this includes Adventure 2).
Fire Mountain, Icicle Pyramid, Darkwater Beach, and Smokey Castle were all removed from the game's single player mode and replaced with a mode where the player must create their own track and race on it for the T.T. Amulet.
Smokey Castle's objective was change from collecting bananas to collecting coins.
The player can buy items with obtainable coins.
To unlock T.T., the player must complete all Adventure 1 Time Trials, including the vehicles that are not normally used on each track (for example, the plane on Ancient Lake). The player does not need to have Adventure 2 unlocked, and they do not need the DS exclusive tracks unlocked.
Instead of timing the start boost, the player either use their stylus or blow into the microphone (this does not apply for Taj's challenges as it is timing based on those).
The keys have their own distinct features, with different shapes and colors instead of the same gold color.
In the original game, it was possible to race on cars in Everfrost Peak due to being an ice track. This was changed in the DS version to where it become a water track, and it is no longer possible to race using cars.

The start boost thing was utterly moronic and soured my opinion on that version of the game as a whole.

The sad thing is that once you get used to it blowing in the mic is honestly the easier way to do a start boost since you don't have to move your hands.

I still can't believe no one has ever made a racing game with the EXACT same air/sea/land vehicle mechanic as DKR. Closest I've seen is the stuff in MK8 and Sega ASR transformed, but you're forced to change in the middle of a race so it's not as fun or interesting.
I know it'd be hard to balance and design tracks around it but damn I would love to see someone give it another try.

If they remade this game, how do you think they would alter Taj's character given he's a caricature of an indian and that's unacceptable with PC culture in 2023?

And so they did. But they also changed everyone else's voices and it's hard to tell if it's due to political correctness or being cheap as frick. It legit sounds like some random guy talking

They would just drop the accent like they did in the ds remake. His design would stay the same, unless they did some spyro reignited shit to him and just butchered everyone's designs.

Same. I played the shit out of it as a kid and was borderline obsessed with it for some reason. I gave it another spin a month or so ago, and got bored by the second world.

Only thing we got as far as remakes or sequels go is the ds port (lmao). I wonder how Donkey Kong racing would've turned out if rare didn't get bought out by microsoft.
But in any case I doubt we'll ever get a sequel anytime soon. Nintendo neglects the hell out of Donkey Kong nowadays already, let alone his spin-off games.

Damn near all of those guys were candidates for their own games.
    >Pipsy was a male mouse who was going to be in a space adventure, the remnants of said game turned into Future Fun Land
    >Timber was going to be the protagonist of Twelve Tales (and a quadruped)
    >Only Bumper, Drumstick, T.T and Tiptup would have been one-offs or in supporting roles like Tiptup in Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie
    >Diddy Kong wasn't even the protagonist of the game, it was just going to be a regular racing game, then a cartoon racing game with a biker mammoth and then it became Diddy Kong Racing

  28. 8 months ago

People are saying DKR is boring but my only real gripe is that despite the padding the game is pretty short and easy (Outside of Wizpig and a couple of the coin missions). Since your incentive for beating the game is just cheatcodes you can look up online Adventure 2 is also redendant and insultingly easy if you've unlocked T.T.

It doesn't take that long to upgrade your weapons. The problem is more that you don't need weapons to beat the AIs, and AIs barely use them against use.

They're also really imbalanced if you're thinking about multiplayer. The shield and magnet aren't worth it, and the boost and oil slick basically do the same thing at all three levels. The rocket is the only pickup that's actually pretty well designed around the upgrade system since it scales up in power and use.

It's pretty fun to try and keep a multi rocket for an entire race tbh.

Do you know who directed Mickey's Speedway USA, I was always under the impression it was the team of DDR, but there's nothing on the credits about who directed/designed it.
