As far as the first entry of a series goes 400k+ is a very hefty start, the only question is how well the author actually used those words to tell and move their story along versus say 70% of it just being the Marshall angsting themselves to death.

I messed up my first run and killed civilians in the hero museum and made the misstake of meeting Hollow Ground in person. After confessing to Ortega it literally broke her heart that I killed people and that run ended with my sidestep having two broken legs and Ortega slipping back into alcoholism. I felt so fricking bad I had to restart. I couldn't put Ortega through that. I havent had a game made me feel things like this since Disco Elysium, bros.

No. There are a few mainlines with detective elements or mcs and a few games of various settings and styles that do a lot of deductive reasoning or mystery stuff. Hyuga of all things is basically a detective story for part of one book
Unfortunately not, there's a game with a detective MC but the actual crime investigating is heavily sidelined compared to romance and character interaction.
Samurai of Hyuga has a pretty good detective section in one of its books, so I'd suggest that.
It's also similar to FH in that its MC is also pretty heavily defined even if there are some aspects to them you can change. SoH is much more railroaded in its plot though so there's that

Finished The 25th Ward. Ending the first game on #White out was some bullshit but I ain't even mad I have mixed feelings about this sequel though because TSC nailed the atmosphere, like it almost perfectly captured the zeitgeist of 1999. Going from it to 25 was a bit like going from Cube to Hypercube, for half of the game I couldn't decide if it was a sequel I was playing or a parody or both but it sure was different. Guess that's not so unlike 2005 either.
The puzzles though, those can frick right off. I refuse to believe that a human being designed them and other human beings looked at it and said yeah, this really adds to the game. Especially in Correctness, at least Placebo and Matchmaker had the decency to tone that shit down. But it's just really strange because TSC's puzzle direction never had any hints of this moronation, it actually had quite a lot of qol to not waste your time. So what the frick happened.

I think the right thing to do is a completely finished story and then have sequels be additional stories, maybe rope in an overarching story impossible to notice from book 1 but the signs were there. Each book should be relatively cliffhangerless and written as if the writer might die tomorrow.
I'm in favor of loosely connected canon ending sequels. I don't mind an ending that sets something else up as long as all the other endings create a self contained story that doesn't need to be continued. It sidesteps the problem of rendering your choices throughout the game meaningless.
Completely finished seems too much as that would just lead to the extras feeling well, extra, and superfluous to the original story. Each entry should at least resolve the main conflict or goal introduced in the story before saying "The Adventure Continues in..." is all I ask.
Something like Wayhaven 1 or FH Rebirth is ok because while there's still a lot of questions left like why is the Detective's blood special, or what exactly is Sidestep fighting against and what's their history with it. You still have a dramatic climax that provides closure on what you've been working on throughout the game.
Contrast that to GR having you go on a quest to regain a stolen treasure and learn its dark secrets and how it relates to you, to learning jackshit about it. At most you catch the dude who originally stole it after being dumped by their boss, and it ends there.
For what it's worth it's a satisfying ending and it's only going to be a duology.
Author has all but wrote another game in under a year so I believe.

I tended to spread my stat points quite evenly outside elemental, my main combat being at least 50, and so was left unable to save them with any of the options.
Gotcha, that makes sense. I had fighting and elementalism as my primary stats. Basically any scenario I can punch in, I win in.
I try to avoid killing as much as possible, but MC is still rather angsty due to the stress of being targeted by a terrorist organization that wants to end the world, while everyone in the government doesn't seem willing or able to properly help them with that problem. (I'm half convinced the Cambions are working with Frostbite)
And then of course that's That Incident which turns them into a schizo

There's hardly any options to kill people prior to the 3rd book, but for the first at least I think letting Reyna live is much more interesting than killing her.
Book 2, you can kill the werewolves at the start. If you killed Reyna at least, your character is disturbed at how easily you killed them, especially since they were otherwise human. You can also kill the drake in the exam you have later in 2 which also can disturb the MC
But yeah, no moment as big as killing Reyna until book 3
There's Celosia sort of if you're dating cute nymphs, but we don't get its aftereffects until book 3.

To play devil's advocate (lol) you don't play a priest, just someone who had an unspecified argument and dropped out of [insert religious education term appropriate to chosen faith here] before being ordained. Owning the store is a necessary part of the story and at least you get to own one geared specifically toward religious books and so on (though how the frick that thrives in a small town baffles me).
The last part is actually just wrong though, even if their take on True Faith is pretty limp - it still lets you straight up wienerblock Dominate right out of the gate, and gets more from there.
My real complaint in this regard is that it has some weirdo forced Occult/Faith/Science trichotomy despite giving you backgrounds that provide two or even all three of them.
Also for some fricking reason Judaism and Islam get custom content but Christianity is the blank ass slate with absolutely no definition half the time.

Yeah I got that sense. Last two years or so Ive got a good feel for a lot of the authors. Most are bland. Some have styles, good or bad depending on taste. I know people clown on the cutting thing but I think ITFO is pretty well written in a lot of things, especially when it comes to characters like Elya and the love interests who I am all fond off. The Keeper author did like ten years of writing classes between 1 and 2. Devon unapologetically writes textual horny anime. While the romance aspect can add layers that make the story more enjoyable, I think the most important aspect in Keepers is just doing different routes in general, rather than monofocusing on one. As they all add something or another to the greater world building and reveal secrets about characters and their motivation that you would otherwise never know about.
The Delacroix massacre for example needs you to play both the single mom and single dad MC's plots to get a good picture why it happened
An NPC Davina, while only a major character in one of the RO's past, needs you to play another character's story if you want to understand why she took the actions she took etc.

Eh, there's three good ends listed in the achievements, and checking on the code all the things that cause dark end points are shit like being a toxic as hell lover, that feels joy over seeing their lover scarred as it's a sign of love for them, gaslights and shames them if they don't always pick (You), or is too murderhappy.
You can even reduce the points in at least one instance by questioning the nymph duo if they truly think continuing the fricked up practice is worth it.

I think you're confusing the brigade with the regiment. The militia and the houseguards aren't a part of your regiment, they're just put under your brigade. Houseguards have their own regiments. Any change to the infantry uniform wouldn't be your decision, but an army-wide reform. Orange and blue for infantry is the official standard.

There isn't a "Regiment", it's just an gigantic army. You're put in comand as General of Brigade, and Wulfram basically says for you to handle the whole-ass brigade yourself. Given that he also mentions that your only cavalry will be your dragoons, you're basically getting the infantry + dragoons as an whole unit.
Strictly speaking they may not be a "regiment" but it seems like they're pretty much just being run as one. So i see no reason why you couldn't give them some manner of customization now that you're a big boy and not just an low-tier officer.
There are regiments, absolutely. The way things work in Tierra is that houseguards are grouped together into temporary regiments, with the ranks decided by how many men one has brought. Brigades aren't anything permanent in there yet, it's just a way to group together several regiments and put them under command of a single guy for large engagements. You won't get to customize anything, since any line infantry regiment can be easily ordered to be put under another brigade, like at 2K.
Again, you're assuming things are going to work the normal way as if it were a standard war. It's a civil war, and th way Tierra works, military units are pretty strongly related to their leader.
Given how we know we're basically going to manage our brigade whanever way we want (for example, we will be able to hire Loch as an Officer, i believe), it seems like a waste of an opportunity to let you customize your forces. I mean, it's not like we ever get a lot of official fanart anyway, it's always just the dragoons or some main characters.
You will be able to hire people as officers for your personal staff, not to command. Houseguards are guaranteed to be grouped into regiments, it's setting up a basic chain of command. The only degree of customization you'll get is screaming really hard at the Xth Foot colonel for not drilling his men properly.

I seriously doubt that you'll just act as a normal brigade. Again, this is a civil war and you're basically saddled with a bunch of "elite militia", it seems inevitable that the dragoon will get much more operational independence than a normal infantry brigade.
Operational independence, yes, and you'll be able to do things like requesting a battalion of Marines to be attached to your brigade. But you won't be able to run it completely as your personal army down to deciding how the men under you should dress, Isobel/Castermaine would die from a heart attack if you would do that.
