What is the status on aura clash, unsupervised, squire game and crusader game? I saw a screenshot of the squire game last thread but I don't think I have seen anything of the crusader one yet.

Visual novels can have choices too, but it isn’t a requirement for the genre. VNs can be entirely linear.

Finished prologue yesterday. It took a lot more of time than I expected, despite trying to rush it through quick and dirty, with partial rewrites for story reasons taking most of the time.
There is a lot of reactivity setups for the future, but the thing is mostly linear. Around 30% of the text, I'm guessing, is choice unique, maybe more.
I'm gonna be editing it extensively today to make it actually pleasing to read, and then I'll decide something about publishing a WIP. It's technically long enough, but I want to cook it some more until the story really starts and I can show off the branching paths.
Considered making a series of posts to reveal the synopsis, ROs and the official title, but at the same time I don't want to take away time from the writing. I also don't give a shit about it right now. I will have to write this all out anyway, so I might do it if there's interest.

Should I use the full speech of Urban II in the intro of crusader game, or just a short version that focuses on the abuses of the turks in Palestine? The later is far shorter and frankly impactful as an introduction to the setting, but at the same time, it gives a rather wrong idea of

I say use the full speech, if for no other reason than to make sure it gives the right idea. If you give the player the wrong impression at the very start they will be apply that impression to the rest of the game.
Because the player won't be physically present during the speech unless he picks the southern frank origin: Urban's words are an introduction to the game, something to set the tone.

I am writing a very general intro of the situation in the 11th century before beginning character creation. Finished chapter 5 (before I play through it and reword stuff after reading) and with confidence I can announce I would kill myself without CSIDE's quicktest. Still bugfixing, should have 5-6 hours of rewriting tomorrow unless this snow storm gets bad.
It found the 40-50 code errors I had in chapter 5 part 2. Without it I would have had to play and get up to chapter 5 as many times and probably still wouldn't find all the errors. I still write in notepad++ but import to CSIDE for quicktest. I hear you can quicktest without it but I'm set in my ways.
here are two tips I've only learned in recent years:
1 - put *hide_reuse at the start of the txt and you won't need to write it anywhere else
2 - use implicit control flow so you can exit choices without gotos

The 2nd one is a lifesaver for sure, and yes, tomorrow night. I really splurged too much on side projects while working on chapter 5. Ideally now that I'm done writing I'd spend a whole week on rewrites and editing but I ain't no quitter, it's coming tomorrow as long as I'm alive.

You can't fix Camelia. She brings in nothing but problems and severed heads, she doesn't even buy me dinner. Besides, Daeran's romance is much more pleasant to play through.

It is bullshit and tells you a lot about disconnection and distance that existed between the franks and their enemies. Details like these make the crusaders feel more real.
But... Why? Discords always devolve into weird cults of personality or autistic cabals that believe themselves to be owners of the story, not to mention drama. Making a discord is the quickest way to kill Aura Clash.

It's one of the few moments I think 4a actually nailed, If there where more opportunities to expressly rely on yourself and less of dagda's edgy whining it would have been a lot better. in theory the game is about self reliance vs working in a group, but anarchy is just the edgy murder route while peace is the frienship is magic route.
Quickest should check it if you add that scene to your scene list in the startup txt

I'd say choicescript, just because it has active forums and "community" that can talk about your game. twine means self publishing on itch, and it'll probably be a bit harder to find an audience there.

I have been watching baki recently. It's the first anime I have ever watched and I can't fricking tell if they are cultivators or not. From what I can tell it seems like they would be, but there's no mention of cultivation. The main character gets physically stronger because he had sex with his childhood friend, just like in aura clash. They can perform impossible physical feats like in Aura Clash. They even have a fricking Aura. But it doesn't seem like they are going for cultivation.

Cultivation is the complete nonsense to me. Sitting down, meditating and just breathing hard apparently translates to power? At least the characters in Baki do things that resemble actual training.
That makes it slightly better I guess? But I've also seen cases where so-called cultivators literally just focus really hard in breathing while sitting down and nothing else - and this means they get stronger somehow.

They also typically take in the energy of the world around them, like a plant sucking in nutrients in order to grow. Either that or their power is based on the platonic ideals of whatever they're cultivating, and thus by meditating on their cultivation they might gain insight into their dao. The more they understand their dao the more they can do with their powers. I haven't personally read any cultivation story(besides kind of beware of chicken) where the protagonist gets stronger by literally not doing anything.

A white Englishman, if you visit the new traveling merchant who comes from across the seas and have enough liquid capital you can buy a book from him. It teaches you wikkan magic also know as the craft. Whenever you show your aura after learning this you also produce the scent of tea leaf's, much to your opponents confusion.

For now I hardcoded it to say you beat her and then have it changed depending on what you do, I'll try to find the real fix for a bigger update. Hopefully this is the last gamebreaking bug so I can let people play without breaking saves for a while.

Academagia is an autistic child of Princess Maker and King of Dragon Pass with a gorillion stats, abilities, skills, spells, etc you'll hardly know the usefulness of without meta-gaming and an arcane UI that really makes you feel like a wizard because you need to be one to navigate it.
Year 2 is supposedly still in the works, but it's been there for more than a decade already and even if it does come out the full series is supposed to cover 5 years in total which is lol lmao.

Chapter 1 is one third of the way done, length-wise. There's a large branching split in the middle, so it's actually one forth done. Hey I took the test, you got me absolutely beat in the spatial awareness test. But I got ya beat in verbal and very slightly better memory. You are right about the verbal test being off. As a full time burger I also took the library of writing down all the words I never heard before that the test used.

Based time power enjoyers, that's what I picked too. Not even for muh OP powerscaling reasons, I'm a loregay and enjoy the secret foreshadowing scenes you get from having time manipulation. Also I think it makes for the most interesting story with all the implications that (you) are Chronomancer. It's actually a bit of a shame the premise focuses on teenager MC coming of age, because I'd give anything for a spin-off/sequel where you play as Chronomancer.

Wouldn't this mandate the implication that there are either multiple timelines or one shifting timeline, and Chronomancer is just you from a previous or alternate timeline? I don't like that as the only possible version of time travel in this story, it would water down the concept of Chronomancer being MC, as technically he'd only be an alternate version of MC. I prefer the idea of Chronomancer/MC being in close-circuited time loop, I'm pretty sure Chronomancer talked about time paradoxes before too. Though I guess anything is possible, so we'll see.

I'm pretty sure it is a closed time-loop. If you frickup and die at the docks from the sniper as a time-manipulator, you can see a series of scenes between Thaumaturge and Chronomancer where Thaumaturge says Chronomancer is becoming more like him every loop. If you keep dying over and over, Chronomancer realises you're listening and intervenes to stop the entire loop from happening because they don't remember going through the loop. The screenshot is the first part and is a massive spoiler btw, but it's one of the reasons I love Unsupervised so much, even if not for the foreshadowing cool shit, there is so much cool hidden stuff for each of the paths.

Not quite, at least not from how I see it. Lets say you have an apple and you hold it in your hand. Five minutes later you decide you want two apples and send the one apple you have back in time five minutes. Now you have two apples, and because you have two apples you decide not to use the time machine to get another one. The timelime has been changed, it's not an alternate reality apple nor is it alternative timeline apple. It's the same apple from the same timeline, you just have two of them now. A closed circuit time loop demands that no matter what you use the time machine to create the second apple. But since you already have two and don't use the timemachine because of it a paradox happens. The fact that you can deviate from the loop implies that it cannot be a closed loop or else no deviation would of been possible.

I don't think Unsupervised's time travel follows the self-consistency principle either, since it is already implied several times that paradoxes can happen. By "closed" time loop, I mean to say that no paradoxes seem to have been caused and the time loop hasn't been deviated from so far, likely due to Chronomancer's efforts to keep it that way for whatever reason. Besides, I think that Chronomancer traveled to the past for a reason beyond being forced to by self-consistency principles dictating that no paradoxes can happen - he mentioned wanting to "save someone" at some point in the story, which very much implies a malleable timeline(s) as well. Likely there will be an option way down the line for the time manipulator MC to break the loop/cause a time paradox/not become Chronomancer in some way, but that is as far as my theorizing goes for now as I'm not too well-versed in the scifi genre in general.

Yeah, that shit can get complicated and are done in different ways depending on the movie your watching. My preferred way to view time travel is less as travel itself and more as reality configurations. Think of yourself right now as you read this. There is only (1) of you in reality. Imagine then if a second you appear right next to you. Are they a time traveler, a you from an alternate dimension? Truth is, it doesn't matter. Before there was only (1) of you in this reality configuration and now there is (2). Sometimes people get caught up in the paradox of the thing that they forget that if time travel occurred then the how is now academic. The reality of the situation is that there is now a second you in this [Reality/TimeLine]. he mentioned wanting to "save someone" at some point in the story Considering that he doesn't just go to one specific point in time and prevents the [Death/fall] of this someone it can't be a single event. Or else he would not of had to go back in time for years on end and get on that spaceship to "Die". Perhaps he tried to train the MC in a specific way as to ensure that whatever happened doesn't happen anymore since the MC changed the circumstances in such a way that it is no longer possible for that event to even occur. Perhaps the meteor did hit originally but due to his meddling it has now been prevented.

I was looking through the scenes folder for Unsupervised not long ago and found a new(?) scene called "redCast" after the party at the base where whatever you say/do to Red Harry comes back to bite you in the ass, it's cool but the main interesting thing is if you're not a Time Manipulator Comeback Kid (The small black child on the cover art) shows up and freaks out because he's "too late" but Nexus recognises him as Chronomancer. If you are a Time Manipulator, another version of you somehow shows up but it doesn't have any dialogue from Nexus about Chronomancer.
The most surreal thing about Academagia's Year 2 is that the devs still keep insisting that they're working on it and their gacha project didn't have any effect on the development. They have a ~7 year old thread of >Hey devs is it ready yet? >No but we're working on it 🙂

It's legitimately one of the worst CoG titles I've ever played. It's so fricking long and nothing happens, I'm genuinely in awe at how it's like 600k words of exposition. It's isekai crap and aside from how you improve that village, I don't think there's a single actual decision. Every single one is "Ask for more horribly written exposition or move on", nothing you do changes anything, it's somehow more linear than SoH.

The Kosuke scene was supposed to be cannon but I didn't like auto-failing you and wrote 14-16 entries of the different ways you break out of the prison's 3 problems on your own. Someone pointed out however that you currently autofail somewhere else so I'm trying to fix that if work gets off my back.
Dunno if anyone suggested this yet, but if you're gonna have fun sections for failing (like the Kosuke one) then you should add an option to do so intentionally. As it is, it's entirely possible to be unable to fail if you just so happen to have all the right stats and skills.

If you drink, blow and write once you are at the golden zone you could figure out what the exact Blood alcohol content that you write the best at, that way if you go below that threshold you know the exact amount you need to drink to regain it. Would past MC better describe your mentor or would Future MC better describe them? They are you from the future, but they came back to the past. Now the future is their past, but is still the present MC's future. But since the future events are something that already happened by definition since they already happened that would make it the past. Since they already happened then then the mentor MC who came from the future into the past (retroactively making all future events past events) that would make the current MC the present MC while the mentor is actually from the past since everything already happened for them. Making then the Past MC, rather then the present MC or Future MC.
Write it. Really though someone should make a cyoa dedicated to time traveling shenanigans, in unsupervised it has to share author attenion with the other superpowers which are frankly just less interesting than time manipulation.

Sometimes I wonder how the Shrine Maiden Return's poll is going, I can't pay for patreon right now since I'm on vacation in Moscow and my credit card stayed in my home country. Feedback would be giving constructive advice on how to integrate the shrine maiden into the existing flow of things where the ROs are mainly the trainers you meet that teach you the techniques, and giving a reason about why would a shrine maiden leave the temple so you could interact with her as the story continues. These reasons to leave don't exist, and the moment another one night stand is added the attention will switch and you will start demanding to change the story again. There is nothing that character has as a defining characteristic besides "has sex with you once", so she will be easily replaced with the next fotm. You are free to offer feedback but feedback isn't whining to the void about how you want shrinemaiden breasts and you want them now.

Aura clash isn't even that, it just understands that its ok to let the player win and feel powerful at times. its all about the struggle, you want the players to feel like they are evenly matched (in an average fight that progresses the story atleast,not every fight has to be skin of their teeth, you can also have a fight with some jobber later on that might have given the player trouble before and let them get absolutely smoked to so how far the player has come, or just have average dudes that get smoked by the player to give a sense of scale on stength) but are able to pull out a win through either clever stat distribution or paying attention to the writin

Finished prologue yesterday. It took a lot more of time than I expected, despite trying to rush it through quick and dirty, with partial rewrites for story reasons taking most of the time.
There is a lot of reactivity setups for the future, but the thing is mostly linear. Around 30% of the text, I'm guessing, is choice unique, maybe more.
I'm gonna be editing it extensively today to make it actually pleasing to read, and then I'll decide something about publishing a WIP. It's technically long enough, but I want to cook it some more until the story really starts and I can show off the branching paths.
Considered making a series of posts to reveal the synopsis, ROs and the official title, but at the same time I don't want to take away time from the writing. I also don't give a shit about it right now. I will have to write this all out anyway, so I might do it if there's interest.

It found the 40-50 code errors I had in chapter 5 part 2. Without it I would have had to play and get up to chapter 5 as many times and probably still wouldn't find all the errors. I still write in notepad++ but import to CSIDE for quicktest. I hear you can quicktest without it but I'm set in my ways.
here are two tips I've only learned in recent years:
1 - put *hide_reuse at the start of the txt and you won't need to write it anywhere else
2 - use implicit control flow so you can exit choices without gotos

I have been watching baki recently. It's the first anime I have ever watched and I can't fricking tell if they are cultivators or not. From what I can tell it seems like they would be, but there's no mention of cultivation. The main character gets physically stronger because he had sex with his childhood friend, just like in aura clash. They can perform impossible physical feats like in Aura Clash. They even have a fricking Aura. But it doesn't seem like they are going for cultivation.

They also typically take in the energy of the world around them, like a plant sucking in nutrients in order to grow. Either that or their power is based on the platonic ideals of whatever they're cultivating, and thus by meditating on their cultivation they might gain insight into their dao. The more they understand their dao the more they can do with their powers. I haven't personally read any cultivation story(besides kind of beware of chicken) where the protagonist gets stronger by literally not doing anything.

How do you guys get your character names? I've got a friend that likes to make some nice sounding romanized names for his characters when we play tabletop games but I've never been good at that. I use disgaea 2's random generic names until I find one I like.

I usually either pick from among the listed options at char gen, or use IRL names I like. Sara or Rose are common for women, Aleksandr or Ryan for men.

Year 2 is supposedly still in the works, but it's been there for more than a decade already and even if it does come out the full series is supposed to cover 5 years in total which is lol lmao.

Chapter 1 is one third of the way done, length-wise. There's a large branching split in the middle, so it's actually one forth done. I dread the combat sequence, as it's around 20 subscenes right now, with branching around every 4-5. It's especially hard since at that point in the story the MC doesn't have powers yet, except for the power of friendship.
Once it's done I'll publish the WIP in the thread.

Based time power enjoyers, that's what I picked too. Not even for muh OP powerscaling reasons, I'm a loregay and enjoy the secret foreshadowing scenes you get from having time manipulation. Also I think it makes for the most interesting story with all the implications that (you) are Chronomancer. It's actually a bit of a shame the premise focuses on teenager MC coming of age, because I'd give anything for a spin-off/sequel where you play as Chronomancer.
Wouldn't this mandate the implication that there are either multiple timelines or one shifting timeline, and Chronomancer is just you from a previous or alternate timeline? I don't like that as the only possible version of time travel in this story, it would water down the concept of Chronomancer being MC, as technically he'd only be an alternate version of MC. I prefer the idea of Chronomancer/MC being in close-circuited time loop, I'm pretty sure Chronomancer talked about time paradoxes before too. Though I guess anything is possible, so we'll see.
I'm pretty sure it is a closed time-loop. If you frickup and die at the docks from the sniper as a time-manipulator, you can see a series of scenes between Thaumaturge and Chronomancer where Thaumaturge says Chronomancer is becoming more like him every loop. If you keep dying over and over, Chronomancer realises you're listening and intervenes to stop the entire loop from happening because they don't remember going through the loop. The screenshot is the first part and is a massive spoiler btw, but it's one of the reasons I love Unsupervised so much, even if not for the foreshadowing cool shit, there is so much cool hidden stuff for each of the paths.

Not quite, at least not from how I see it. Lets say you have an apple and you hold it in your hand. Five minutes later you decide you want two apples and send the one apple you have back in time five minutes. Now you have two apples, and because you have two apples you decide not to use the time machine to get another one. The timelime has been changed, it's not an alternate reality apple nor is it alternative timeline apple. It's the same apple from the same timeline, you just have two of them now. A closed circuit time loop demands that no matter what you use the time machine to create the second apple. But since you already have two and don't use the timemachine because of it a paradox happens. The fact that you can deviate from the loop implies that it cannot be a closed loop or else no deviation would of been possible.
I don't think Unsupervised's time travel follows the self-consistency principle either, since it is already implied several times that paradoxes can happen. By "closed" time loop, I mean to say that no paradoxes seem to have been caused and the time loop hasn't been deviated from so far, likely due to Chronomancer's efforts to keep it that way for whatever reason. Besides, I think that Chronomancer traveled to the past for a reason beyond being forced to by self-consistency principles dictating that no paradoxes can happen - he mentioned wanting to "save someone" at some point in the story, which very much implies a malleable timeline(s) as well. Likely there will be an option way down the line for the time manipulator MC to break the loop/cause a time paradox/not become Chronomancer in some way, but that is as far as my theorizing goes for now as I'm not too well-versed in the scifi genre in general.
Oh absolutely you can not become Chronomancer. Hell, I doubt the Chronomancher that came back from the future was a villain. But even in the WIP we can progress down that path. I am sure there are other deviations that have already happened before the story even starts for us simply due to Chronomancers influence.

Yeah, that shit can get complicated and are done in different ways depending on the movie your watching. My preferred way to view time travel is less as travel itself and more as reality configurations. Think of yourself right now as you read this. There is only (1) of you in reality. Imagine then if a second you appear right next to you. Are they a time traveler, a you from an alternate dimension? Truth is, it doesn't matter. Before there was only (1) of you in this reality configuration and now there is (2). Sometimes people get caught up in the paradox of the thing that they forget that if time travel occurred then the how is now academic. The reality of the situation is that there is now a second you in this [Reality/TimeLine].

Considering that he doesn't just go to one specific point in time and prevents the [Death/fall] of this someone it can't be a single event. Or else he would not of had to go back in time for years on end and get on that spaceship to "Die". Perhaps he tried to train the MC in a specific way as to ensure that whatever happened doesn't happen anymore since the MC changed the circumstances in such a way that it is no longer possible for that event to even occur. Perhaps the meteor did hit originally but due to his meddling it has now been prevented.

I was looking through the scenes folder for Unsupervised not long ago and found a new(?) scene called "redCast" after the party at the base where whatever you say/do to Red Harry comes back to bite you in the ass, it's cool but the main interesting thing is if you're not a Time Manipulator Comeback Kid (The small black child on the cover art) shows up and freaks out because he's "too late" but Nexus recognises him as Chronomancer. If you are a Time Manipulator, another version of you somehow shows up but it doesn't have any dialogue from Nexus about Chronomancer.

These reasons to leave don't exist, and the moment another one night stand is added the attention will switch and you will start demanding to change the story again. There is nothing that character has as a defining characteristic besides "has sex with you once", so she will be easily replaced with the next fotm. Aura clash isn't even that, it just understands that its ok to let the player win and feel powerful at times. its all about the struggle, you want the players to feel like they are evenly matched (in an average fight that progresses the story atleast,not every fight has to be skin of their teeth, you can also have a fight with some jobber later on that might have given the player trouble before and let them get absolutely smoked to so how far the player has come, or just have average dudes that get smoked by the player to give a sense of scale on stength) but are able to pull out a win through either clever stat distribution or paying attention to the writin

It's kinda fun, but the author really fricking sucks at gameplay mechanics and keeps revising them every other day, the story is supposed to be about you being le superspeshul god reincarnation Young Master, yet the story can't seem to settle on if it wants to be an actual power fantasy or to be about you getting slapped around and sidelined by cooler people and there's barely any personal interactions with other characters.
I think it's main flaws are that you almost don't interact with people on your level. You're in the top 3 in the world at your cultivation stage and you rarely if ever fight mid to good people.
