Best Girl has to be Lady Argent simply because I felt actual chemistry when beating the shit out of each other even though she wasn't an RO, and then suddenly, bam, she felt the same and became an RO for that exact reason. Not very well written in a words kind of way but very well written in a tone kind of way. It had the NPCs and the reader on the same wavelength which is incredibly hard to pull off.

yeah, its what sparked my interest in the setting, Rhin and matkina where my favorite companions, but erritis is too much fun to not mention as well.The bloom was a very interesting area to explore and interact with, other highlights I would say would be the creative use of the engagement system with making tense-noncombat situations, like stealing that core from the alien computer while having the rest of the party distract the gaurd with a guided tour. Or when one of those cultists was also a transdimensional being and shat his pants when he saw callistege because we kill him in every reality I ended up fusing all the castoffs into matkina, the first and the changing gods plans where dumb, and not choosing anything delays the inevitable, and the sorrow could cause more collateral damage when it eventually goes after the castoffs, so I decided to give mattie a real second chance.Her party bant with rhin is very heartwarming. though I'm also reminded of the time when callistege said something about killing matkina, and backstepping asking if they were friends in this reality lmao.

having not been around for numenera when it had a kickstarter campaign and released I cannot speak on the delays and broken promises, going only on my experience with the game I have to say that it was still incredibly creative with what I played, the bloom, the castoffs, castilles transdimensionallity and rhin's journey as a whole the weirdo npcs you encounter like Devourer of Wrongs or the aliens.
the way I see this happening is possibly by applying for a Numenera Limited License (http://numenera.com/fan-use-product-licensing/mcglimitedlicense/) and selling monte cook on the cyoa niche, from looking at the NLL and the fan use policy they are both mainly geared towards physical and web helpers for physical games, not particularly about fan games or wanting to use the setting in a fan game. you would probably have to email them specifically about it. it would probably have to be made in twine, and while you can make free products with the NLL, it is an investment on their end, so they might say no to a hobbiest like me because I have no actual published works or experience to fall back on. I would love if a cyoa could happen though, it seems like a mostly untapped market for tabletop settings with only WoD banking on it with the CoG deals.

People will keep b***hing for more shit without any regard for how much time would be spent adding that trash that would only appeal to them.
Also watch out that you won't add too many unnecessary variables or you'll bog down your writing process a lot.

A few things hit me harder than expected.
1. Branching makes you hate your story. You'll feel like you're going so slow and dragging on when in reality you're not. Chapter 5 was 100k words and felt like it dragged on until the end of time with the worst most boring pacing and wastes of time, but for players it was only 20k words and they loved it. I spent *months* hating it because writing it dragged on for months.
2. Mood setting. I'm not a big music guy but for fight scenes I played good music for fight scenes (DMC3/5 soundtracks, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance soundtrack, etc). For casual scenes with a different mood I'd play something casual like lofi or Young Scrolls. You also need to have solitude and no stress, I can't write around my children/wife so I take some hours to the library when I can.
3. Playtesting. I HATE playtesting late chapters and it's only going to get worse. CoG doesn't let you import variables as a save file or anything so every time I make changes it makes me restart the game in testing. All I can suggest is that dashingdon uses the old save system, for playtesting you should use the new save system here (https://github.com/ChoicescriptIDE/ChoiceScriptSavePlugin) because it reboots you to the start of your scene when you make changes only to that scene. So if I'm making changes to the chapter6.txt file locally and I reload my game locally, it will restart back to the beginning of chapter6.txt but otherwise let me keep the rest of the progress.
4. Temp variables. Many times I want to drag a temp variable to a different scene. To do this, I made a few permanent variables that I reuse like "stringvar_1, stringvar_2, numvar_1, numvar_2" etc. They're useful to carry your temp variable to the next chapter and then reset them.
Also, reserve the right to say "I just don't want to write that" when people request things you don't want to write. Honesty is a good policy.

How about making a save, then dabble with the console to tweak your stats, and then pick a choice to test? I know it's not a fool-proof strategy for builds can be varied but if you constantly change your dummy character to be as average as possible to check if you can survive without falling into a spiral of failures, it should give you some idea about the difficulty, no?

Could that not be solved by coding in a debug mode that directly lets you display, inject and modify global variables akin to how you'd edit a savefile? Or are you talking about a more specific issue.

I know of Wayhaven and 10k monthly. I know of Mina being the most important NPC in Aura Clash because she fricks like a succubus. I know that providing a list of romanceable characters is a must, preferably make them player sexual.

It was a quick fix for one person having that variable freakout when I couldn't find out why. Essentially I set the default to you beating fang (1) and change it later. I actually had to change them all to 10000000000 and increase all checks by one digit because if you add 100 to 0000000000 to becomes 100 not 0000000100 so it messed up thr vhrck I used to read the variable's placement. Next patch should be fun for bugs.
The x1 part means the 2nd digit, so I'd look at {metfang#2} to see its value to determine certain things, likewise xx1 means third digit so I'd look at {metfang#3}. Normally arrays start at 0 but, heh, its choicescript.

Every character is archetypical and every story tropey. We like to pretend otherwise but for the last few thousand years, the stories we were telling and listening to were some variations of something else.
What matters is not if I use an archetype or not, but what I do with it afterward.
Of course every character out there has an associated archetype, you can't escape that.
But there's a difference between your character just being a stock and them having more than a simple dimension to their personality. Just take Keeper as an example of someone who just introduces characters and you are supposed to care about them after two lines of dialogue.
I'd say keeper does a good job in the sequels in actually filling out the characters and branching them out of their generic archetypes, the author definitely got better over time.

Depends what you are going for. You can't do that if you want to stay on good terms with Mei but it lets you be bros with Chen if that's ever going to matter in the long run.
The current actual difference is in money you can get. Saving him nets you 30000 and keeps the restaurant running, so you keep getting around 1k with each passage of time.
Sticking with Mei lets you in on a quest that can net you 40000 (but requires a lot of charisma and may consume a lot of Qi) and you can later cooperate with her for another 10k.

If a murderer got off with a very light punishment and lots of classes and resources to never commit murder again, that's all very well and good for the murderer, but how well would he be accepted back into society? Would the rest of society not feel punished, then? How well would the offender's rehabilitation back into society really be if everyone still scorns them? From this, we get the sense that an offender *must* be punished in some way, whether that be big or small, to better facilitate the victim's "recuperation and recovery" - as well as the offender's. The debate then, is what form that punishment or retribution must take. If a victim demands to be allowed to execute a man who killed his children, who are you to deny him? Not really, the only thing he really has to do is take away the optimal path from Sabers by not actually making missable stat boosts so important and allow choices for other type of characters.
The 15 soldiering you get from Caz and the other 15 you get from the gun, but only if you fought the right way, which you had no way of knowing; the Salt Coast being a fake choice, how the free time wastes are extremely unbalanced, etc.
Guns should be similar but not as severe, he just need to adjust the game so there aren't some unwinnable scenarios depending on the character you import and mentoring someone not being something you can miss.
The rest of the series is balanced around those stat boosts so yes the entire series would in fact need to be rebalanced.
He's also planning on adding additional content to the first two games which would also need to be balanced against the rest of the series unless you don't get absolutely anything out of them.
He would also need to change how sending money home works. As of now, it's worthless and just paints your dad as a moron.
I don't think that one is likely to change. People suggested back during Lords WiP that depending on the amount sent your barony would start with some estate upgrades already done, but he didn't want to do that.
That's because the code about lowering the debt was already in Guns and the game even informed you how high it was in one of the last scenes. If Wang decided to give extra estate upgrades on top of the lowered debt, it would be too unbalanced. So of course no one who knows how Lords works would send the money home.
If one of the options is clearly better than the other then the balance is off and should be fixed.
Ehhh, I don't really think it would really unbalance things too much with the way fairmath works, most of the estate stat losses being at the start and some of the estate upgrades being already built so your options for getting those back up would be more limited.
But one of the problems is lack of time to build up the barony. Especially cottages, you need to upgrade them twice to ditch the hard limit on the tenant number, which would make lowering rents profitable. Roads is another example, if you already had the first upgrade, you could do the huge investment into paved road and then frick off to Aetoria.

The number decided mostly by how high you can get it in Sabres. If you start to fiddle with those numbers in Sabres (i.e. not having charisma be a stat that's mostly set by the time you leave Fernandescourt or being able to get a previously Caz-exclusive soldiering boost while also hanging out with Elson and getting his charisma one, etc) will inevitably lead to issues down the road. Say, if one were to make Salt Coast better in terms of personal stats, why would the players play other places if Salt Coast still keeps their Katarina and Caz rel stat boosts and it gets a lot of stuff in Wars/Masters with the Civil War and Earldoom things, health finally coming into play and so on? Or if the young Dragoons get less suboptimal in the first two games why would then anyone play older ones when the supposedly extremely harsh age stat penalties hit in the last two games? It appears to be an all to fragile system to me.

I just checked my save and my stats at the end of Guns are 51/65/74. This character was unable to pass the initial check even before we start counting the stat degeneration. He barely manages to beat the lowered check.
I still think it's pretty lame you have to choose between story and stat gains. Pretty terrible game design IMO, but it is what it is.
The issue with Sabres is that it allows you to get the promotion early which you should do from the narrative perspective because of seniority and so on, but if you don't do that you get the runegun. And you obtain nothing from the early promotion because you become captain after Blogia regardless of your choices. If the game allowed you to become captain before Blogia by buying lieutenant commission, then a promotion from the king and lt colonelcy after Kharangia I could see it working out but the way it is now, it's clearly shitty.
The problem is that playing optimally is not something readily apparent as you play the game. It's extremely easy to end Sabers with a character whose biggest stat is lower than 60 if you don't know all the ways to game the system. But even that character can manage to get the best result at the end of Lords , even if you have to follow some strict guide to get there.
The only thing a rebalance would do, is get rid of a lot of the fake choices so it doesn't feel awful when guns warns you that your stats are too low to play the game.
This way, someone who choose to talk to Elson, got a letter of recommendation or decided to learn Antari instead of checking the library, doesn't feel as if he was cheated out of stats that would have been very useful going forward.

Being on Lefebvre 's shitlist has him reject your application to the admiralty club, but you can cheese that by just not visiting the club beforehand which keeps him from finding out your intentions to join before it's too late

It gives you an extra rep. boost which is pretty useful if you want to get the max possible reputation after importing to Guns, but that costs you Lefebvre's relationship which can give you major influence boost at the Admiralty Club or ban you from joining it. I worry that this will cause too much of a difference going forward. The difference with the normal gun is astronomical and getting it done will make your army jump years in quality. For what's a seemingly random intelligence check in guns, having it ripple too much may be unwise.

Both are a considerable improvement over the shit weaponry of the era. I'd rather expect the difference between breach loader and a needle gun as between normal carbines and dragonlocks, by which I mean some extra stats plus one specific flag for a one specific event.

It's not bad, but there should be an incentive to check the description in order to see those, otherwise a lot of players would miss those changes.
What you can do is make the text note when a perception check was passed so they can see that, but I think that would defeat the purpose of your idea.
Ideally I would use perception to open up new choices for players, or to make sections where the player has to say the right things easier with more clues via body language and the like. But I don't want to make perception too powerful of a stat where its a musthave and takes priority over all others. some other ideas include charismatic/linguistic characters navigating conversations more smoothly in fluff, Strong characters have a natural physique and can influence others with it passively(intimidation), knowledgeable characters will get more lore/background when topics are brought up. essentially I would like the stats to actually tie into the character and how the story is told than just being a different flavor of fluff for passing a skill check.

It should be for things that are possible to miss.
Some ideas should be how you resolve some conflicts. Killing Propaganda or taking him down on your own, returning the couples ring, getting Telltale trust, successfully following Harry, romancing someone, making the mobster younger, are just some ideas.
What I do notice with this is how most of the unique outcomes are reserved for villainous characters.

I have literally no idea what's the game about aside from the fact it's capeshit (I hate capeshit) so my opinion might be worthless but I would suggest creating one achievement at the very start of the game, maybe after character creation. You could then check how many people did at least this. And then an achievement for every ending that's possible to get, again to have access to information on how many players finished the game and specific route, if you have more than one.
Make an achievement for being able to keep your (justified) murders go undeteced by flit and the gang for the entire game. No one will know what happened to rattlebag when he is just another skeleton in the crypt and my charisma is my second highest stat.

After I figured out how to build a good character in Infinity it lost half its luster for me tbh. Figuring out how to get through the Forlorn Hope with my blind playthrough suboptimal personal and squadron stats felt a lot more satisfying than doing the same or single-handedly deciding which way the Cortes or the Commisison go on my optimized characters.
Taking the optimal path just makes the game boring and that's why I think the other options being in line with the optimal ones should be something strive for in a possible (never ever) rebalance. For example, it's possible to lose your horse in Sabers and get a replacement with three new choices for named horses. And yet no one will ever see those because picking the takaran warhorse is so coat efficient that there's no reason to not pick it, even with shit soldiering.
Regardless, my first run of wars if it ever comes out will be with my useless failure commander who got no medals in the war. The only shame is that I won't be able to replicate my failure Aetoria run because I now know which choices to make.

You don't really get much out of Thunderer except maybe Khorobirit's guns if you're too slow and if you're allergic to seeing your numbers go down picking him on low soldiering hurts your health. It's also completely pointless waste of money if you go disgrace.

Debts are the problem. The Crown has money. Offer poor barons in the duchy of Aetoria a debt on a small percent, with the condition the money will go solely to the improvement of the land. Barons can renegotiate the interest on their previous loans while slowly paying off the debt they took from the crown. If they can't, king has dibs to their land.

It's a matter of necessity. If Khorobirit could have won the war simply by closing trade, then the country has no foundation to stand on. There are other countries, including Kian and Takara. The grain trade with Antar has ended, so Miguel should have started looking for alternatives, and provoke a bitting war between Kian and Takara. Neither of these countries would like Tierra outside of their sphere of influence, so they would have to play along. And don't tell me it's impossible, Miguel accepted much worse conditions after the war.
