Also, cut both Young Link and Toon Link.

You could keep a few things that happen to be iconic to him now, such as his F-Smash or his Side Special, but most of his already existing moves should be replaced. That's it for the main team though. You could also add Impa or Skull Kid as new characters. Perhaps even Vaati.
You could keep Toon Link, but give him a more distinct moveset with WW/FS/MC weapons. Maybe make his "NES Link" palette into an actual original manual art based costume.
I'm fine with keeping Toon Link, but it's absolutely nuts that Young Link exists.
Vaati has a LOT of room to be an interesting character, but he only had presence into two GBA games, so I think his time is long past. If they want to suck off OOT/MM some more, I agree that Skull Kid could be creatively designed as well.

I haven't actually heard much or any complaints about the touch controls. The complaints are that the boat/train travel fricking sucks and the gameplay/dungeons are mostly simple and uninspired. When the DS games are at their best, they're okay Zelda experiences. When they're at their worst they're just chores.
It's maybe my favourite zelda game but I huge issue I have with the game is that the start of the game is seriously worse than Skyward Sword's to me. Like you get a lot of really unnecessary and slow tutorials and the first tower visit is basically just another tutorial and then you go to the first dungeon and there isn't really anything to do on the train except just draw your route and wait until you get there and the first dungeon is also basically structured like a tutorial too and you go back to the tower and it feels like a third fricking tutorial and you want to throw up.
Every time I replay Spirit Tracks I always keep thinking "oh no it's way worse than I remember" until I get to the snow world and it's like the game suddenly remembers give you shit to do on the train with the cannon and better enemies and puzzles in the overworld and basically every dungeon after the shitty forest dungeon is unironically really fricking good for 2D zelda.
I don't blame people for getting filtered by the controls though.
Around this time, all of Nintendo's games were getting way too ahead of themselves with tutorials. It was obvious the DS Toon Link games were made for a younger audience than Twilight Princess so more tutorials would be expected, but to the extent they did it in Twilight Princess was already absurd to me. OoT gets a lot of criticism for Navi and whatnot even though Navi is a blessing by today's standards, rarely interrupting the game and if she does it's only to tell the player what they absolutely need to know.
What I'm also surprised by is absolutely nobody talking about Phantom Hourglass. Spirit Tracks gets the cred for having Zelda actually help Link out, but Phantom Hourglass gets no respect at all.
Phantom Hourglass has a lot of cool shit (I seriously think the grapple hook in Phantom Hourglass is straight up the best in the entire series) but it really gets buried under all of the 3D DS game jank, touch screen controls, and Temple of the Ocean King.
I honestly kind of like the Temple of the Ocean King but I know people hate how repetitive it gets. I really enjoyed the idea of a huge overly complex dungeon that you can only do a little of at a time and I don't even think it was executed badly, it just wasn't for everyone.
TP has a lot of little animations like that. Everyone always brings up Link glancing at Telma's mommy milkers but my favourite one is the grossed out face Link makes when you meet Ooccoo for the first time.
Temple of the Ocean King wasn't even that repetitive, you could skip the vast majority of the early floors once you got a couple items anyway.

Hey it's not my fault the devs chose to make a major focus of the game a barren area with hardly anything to do in it. If I'm travelling a lot through an area, I want something to do and find. Just saying "it's the sky" is completely inadequate as an excuse.
The problem with the controls for me was mostly that they liked to throw enemies at you that do directional blocks, and like, fair enough, but it was real easy to do accidental backswings which becomes a real problem when they start throwing that c**ts with electrified blocks at you.
Speaking of controls, how are the new controls in the Switch version? I got tired of swinging the wiimote around and never finished the original, do they at least work as a replacement?

Two of the more standout traits.
If you want to get into implications and headcanon, Groose's interest in engineering would probably lead him to head down to the desert since there's all that ancient machinery there.
Also his name being a little similar to the word Gerudo, but that can easily be seen as a reach.
That's just a couple things off the top of my head.
What really drove me nuts with Skyward Sword was how they had to use the fricking WM+ gyro for EVERYTHING. It gets fricking exhausting when every single new mechanic involved having to carefully manipulate your wii remote, where just normal controls, waggle, or the wii pointer would have worked fine or better. Like they had no fricking business using the fricking gyro instead of the Wii pointer for aiming and little shit like having to use gyro to insert boss keys was just dumb. Skyward Sword's controls would have been way less exhausting if they just kept the WM+ for the swordplay.
Also as another poster said, backswinging was a major problem. The gyro sensor had a lot of trouble telling if you were swinging your sword or if you were just trying to reposition.
The nice thing about the electroBlack folk in SS is that they start appearing pretty much the same time they give you the bow. Once I figured out that enemies don't block arrows you couldn't force me to use the sword in combat anymore.

Easily the controls, they were by far the deal-breaker for me. From what I played and from what I've seen/heard of the rest of the game, there's PLENTY more to critique, but all of that is entirely secondary to the fact that 30-50% of the time you do an action, something other than what is intended occurs.

Also true. That seems common in games especially in this previous decade; lots of lead writers are trying to tell stories that ape what they like from other mediums like film and TV, but that kind of storytelling just doesn't translate 1:1 into videogames.
I think it's a big reason of why the Souls series stands out right now for its story and lore; because the way the information is communicated to players fully takes advantage of the medium of video games.

I have downloaded the 3D model (source: models-resource.com) of Zelda used both for the fighter and the trophy for "Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS and WiiU" also known as "SSB4". My findings are based on hopefully finding the proper model which resembles the ""discussion"" taking place.
Although the model in the desired position needs very significant lighting, the place in question might technically be considered as "having a bulge", but further zoom-ins and dirrefent lighting setups lead me to the ultimate conclusion that it probably a simple texture mirroring which falsely alludes to the perception of finding a rough "U" shape near the groin area.
