    >playing watered down console ports of computer RPGs
This is only acceptable when playing Wizardry 1-4 on SNES or PS1. The rest of the time it's something far worse than the original game. Console versions of the Might and Magic 2 got the worst treatment. Missing encounters, missing enemies, EZ-mode in-game full maps(the automap is acceptable, the actual map isn't), Disintegrate is even more reliable than the computer versions making the hardest fights much easier, and no more than 255 enemies in any encounter.

Wizardry 4 does not exist for SNES, it exists on PC Engine tho

1-3 on SNES or PS1 is acceptable, since you can transfer characters to the next game like expected. 4 on PS1 is acceptable since it's the same if you don't play the arranged mode. I was hoping people would be able to tell from context, but I guess not.

You can also transfer characters between Wizardry 1-3 on Famicom using the TurboFile device. That functionality was removed from NES versions of Wizardry 1 and 2.

          How do you transfer characters?
          Passcodes?

At least for the SNES version, there's a menu option. What it DOES, at least in the rebalanced version, is transfer the characters stats at their currents level as well as their class. It doesn't actually transfer levels, which is odd.

Wizardy 1 on NES is the one of the creators' favorite version; he said so on a podcast a few years back.

they have some advantages like no load time, no memorizing 45 obtuse key combos, and easier to set up and run whether on hardware or emulation

Ultima 4 on NES is far superior to the PC version

All's fair considering our Dragon Quests didn't have 65 character password saves.

No translation for the Famicom version is the worse part. I actually like the idea of WRPGs ported by Japanese devs.

I Google searched it and was unable to reach a definitive conclusion if a patch exists or not.
