I never recruited him and he shows up as a defender in the massacre, so he got massacred their too for me.
Which SUCKS because I found out you can recruit him, kill karlach, and mizora shows up and gives wyll an awesome robe with a spell and +1 ac. Take this from him, then kill him in the massacre.

Sure, just multiclass, caster level is tied to the sum of your caster levels anyway so you don't really lose much. Pick 1 sorc 11 wizard if you don't want to lose out on slots.
The question is whether it will work with wizard spells or if they coded it to work with sorcerer spells only.
