>Least bloated of all the civs while still having the fundamental game loop
>Only conquest or space race, none of that collect meme points shit
>Balanced combat that depends on industrial capacity and positioning
>Excellent graphics for someone who can use their imagination
Seriously might uninstall Civ 5 at this point because this is the superior Civ experience.

You forgot the make-believe AI that doesn't merely cheat but rather simply does whatever the frick it wants.
>You forgot the make-believe AI that doesn't merely cheat but rather simply does whatever the frick it wants.
Based, it makes games unpredictable and is quite realistic. Peace is only temporary so if you don't have a military it's over for you.
Meanwhile you can survive in Civ 6 with one archer.
>The only civ2 feature I miss from it is Capitalization.
True, when in doubt I build caravans and diplomats though since they require no maintenance
>Based. Civilization 1 is pure fun.
It is, feels much less like a min-max grind. No I don't care about having the perfect campus district, suck it nerds.
The only civ2 feature I miss from it is Capitalization.
Based. Civilization 1 is pure fun.
there is plenty of 1st games in teh series being best games(or still very good even now)
>Master of Orion
>Settlers
>Warlords
>Shogun 1(Total War)
they are simpler , yes, but also more fun than their successors(sometimes the 2nd game, their direct successor is just upgraded 1st)
from my part it isn't even nostalgia, I've come to appreciate lack of bloat, simple controls and fast pace more and more as I've gotten older. And not just about mechanics, they also have less visual clutter.
>they also have less visual clutter.
that is my big gripe with modern games. too much visual noise
where do you even play Civ 1? It isn't on Steam, do you have to get gay emulator?
Speaking of CIV 1, someone at civfanatics currenrtly making an open source civ 1
https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/open-source-rewrite-of-civilization-1-source-code-openciv1-project.682623/
>The only dependency is .NET 8
why??
Why is it better than Civ2?
aesthetic
i like play it thru mobile phone using dos emu
>aesthetic
eh i liked civ 2 more
it has elvis
Civ1 also has elvis.
every civ has Elvis
>t. zoomer homosexual who never actually played it or, for that matter, 2
Imagine being a pleb
Imagine trying to be pretentious
Imagine not drinking bleach already
SNES > DOS.
That's the case with Maxis games too
>inb4 muh mouse
literal skill issue
Sim City SNES had a godly OST but the SNES port of 2000 was kind of jank
>SNES port of 2000 was kind of jank
Wait that was ported from somewhere else? 1000 was epic though.
There's also a PSX and Saturn remake but all in moon.
There is a jap only Nintendo 64 port that includes kaijus, tv channels and dating
It's bad, interface is build for control
SimCity on SNES didn't have SNES mouse support, not sure about the others
It doesn't have Vox Populi so it can't be the best one
combat that depends on industrial capacity and positioning
I lost a tank to a phalanx
SOVL!
>I lost a tank to a phalanx
IDF is losing tanks to literal nobodies planting IEDs everywhere so yeah its pretty realistic.
You lose one tank, but if you have ten cities churning out tanks compared to one city making Spearman you're still gonna win.
And don't fight Spearman on mountains.
>200% defense bonus from terrain
>50% bonus from fortify
>base 2 defense
>that's 4.5 defense
>Armor base attack is 10(15 if veteran)
That's about 50% win rate against a unit a 1/4 it's cost
the terrain bonuses are crazy in civ1 and civ2
had a game as India where I decided to limit myself to geographical india, after winning science victory I kept playing and fortified it, terraformed the borders for hills and built forts along those borders.
Wanted to try ruining the planet with terraforming, and turned all of india into hills to protect myself from the global warming effects.
Every turn I watched them smash their troops into my fortified mechanized infantry in hills, and every turn I attacked their straggles outside india with aircraft. Mainly fighters since bombers would get picked off since they end their turn out in the field.
And even then, I couldn't like snipe a Tank in the hills or mountains with a jet fighter because then their defensive bonus would be too big.
If the phalanx was fortified in a city on a hill...
>No option to simulate modern dominance of culture of economic victory
Sad
>dominance of culture of economic
no such thing
Nothing more than a euphemism for military might in real life. Being a weeb country doesn't actually make it want to be a slave to Japan, and every country that is an ally to America thinks its culture is a cancer, and is in an alliance of convenience and values that they don't consider as uniquely American.
Only played Civ 2 and Civ 5. LOVED Civ 2 and played it for years. User created content was abundant and very well done. Everything from LOtR mod to WWIII scenario. Civ 5 by comparison was meh. Civ 1 was probably great in its day but those graphics... nah.
>Civ 1 was probably great in its day but those graphics... nah.
You haven't missed anything. Civ 2 is the same game just with some extra content, better graphics, a few quality of life changes and a few bug fixes.
Back in the days before the dlc, this little gem added years of new life to Civ II. At least for me it did. Besides 12 professionally created scenarios there were 8 user created ones that were just as impressive. One of the things I loved about Civ II was how easy it was to mod. Even a no talent hack like me could create mods like new units, scenarios and scripted events.
I never knew there was a Civ 1.
What is the best civ game among the first 3? I've never played civ 1/2/3 and now i'm thinking of giving them a shot
2 by far. You should play Civ 1 at least once since it's the revolutionary original, but Civ 2 polishes the balance between units and governments to overall just make a better experience, adding mostly only a few new units here and there and more terraforming options to the tech tree.
3 overhauls everything including movement rules, governments and diplomacy, but ends up being a frustrating mess until again all the new mechanics are polished into a proper game in Civ 4. It has some diehard fans though so maybe check it out.
2 is the best of the first 3. Civ 3 is like a messy prototype of Civ 4 that doesn’t really work out.
Comfy

its funny how slowly everyone realized this is true and we dont even have a true democracy

What do we think about FreeCiv?
i tried this few times and it was quite not my liking
all i wanted was civ2 with more AI on the map and less cheating but better but somehow it failed to be like that
>What do we think about FreeCiv?
It's good except that the AI does not use aircraft AT ALL. Makes late game boring.
I played a billion hours in the late 90s but by 2001 or so I got an old computer with Win95 from a relative and got to play real games instead of whatever I could download for gnu/linux.
I've liked it, but haven't played it too long.
I was disappointed to see that resources didn't change with terrain changes, they just disappeared.
ooh, that's extremely saddening to hear.
time to download it. You got my interest it in now.
