Finally gave Clover a shot and I gotta say, I'm impressed. Only 4 badges in however and I feel like I've reached a difficulty spike already which is concerning. The rival fight in the Karma base or whatever was my first ”roadblock”. Took a few tries and some luck but eventually got it. Now my question is, am I gonna have to properly EV train my pokemon to stand a chance from here on out?

you need to EV train, its not a IF. they game is design that way, specially the post content given the bosses on clover are nuts.
its a really good romhack, one of the best for sure and its quite funny, my only critic if i had to say would be of how long it is, can go for like 60/80 hours holy shit
>my only critic if i had to say would be of how long it is, can go for like 60/80 hours holy shit
How the frick is that even close to being a negative
can drag on for a while, personally i would say 30h main story is more than enough for a pokemon game.
postgame content? that's something else, my point was that clover mainplot is a good 60h
again, that's just me.
Imagine literally asking for less content. I swear you don’t see anyone do that except for Pokémon fans. No wonder the new Pokémon games are shit
>she completely missed my point
ok
My new game features walking in a straight line for 100 hours, you’d love it
I’ll give you a negative: pokemon designs are awful in the sense that you can’t tell their typing just from looking at them. This happens a lot in Clover. You have some examples in Pokemon, but those are few and if you make a list of 5 types you’ll have the real typing in there. However, in Clover you have some typings that will leave you dumbfounded. That’s bad design
It's not that common in Clover either
>you need to EV train, its not a IF
Pass.
I beat the entire game and did not EV train at all until post-game, which gives you a dedicated, easy grind location. It is far from required.
I beat the game just playing with bros that had poorly optimized natures and gave 0 fricks about EV training. That anon has a skill issue.
>you need to EV train
Only if you're a moron. And see
>80 hours of content
>free game
>better than the 2 hours of content for mainline games which you have to pay money for
I don't even know all of the type matchups let alone wtf ev training is but still managed to beat the game
>you need to EV train, its not a IF
No idea if things have changed within the past few years but when I played through Clover this was my team and I didn't have to EV train at all
Mozzamazel my beloved
moron you only need balanced teams that not die to a single type, yes that meands that you may have to adjust your team when you hit a wall
ev training is only necessary for postgame but there is this thing that lets you set up a whole team in half an hour
> am I gonna have to properly EV train my pokemon to stand a chance from here on out?
No. This shouldn’t be required until the post game where the game gives you a way to do that quickly
That's a relief. Figured I was just being a shitter cause the balance felt great up until then. It was the physic/ghost pokemon from the UFO that caught my attention. Went to use mine to counter the rival and despite being a few levels over his, got outsped and one shot.
Yeah Dowster is a >slow frail mixed attacker
Use it with priority moves
Can someone give me the rundown on clover. I heard it was Ganker humor, but then I heard it was a bunch of liberal troony shit. What is it? I don't want to play anything that supports israelites or trannies in any way, that's not Ganker.
>I heard it was a bunch of liberal troony shit
You must be pretty new to fall for bait this obvious
its turbo anti israelite
its turbo anti nogs
its turbo anti pink/green californian hairs
/vp/ likes to bash it because "da jokes are old and are soooo 2016!!"
omg the romhack is a product of its time! the surprise!
anyway, the game is really good and will make you laugh.
pro tip, don't steal from israelites, no seriously, don't do it on this game.
this sounds based as frick, time to play it
so congratulations for mutilating your own dick.
back to discord
What happens if you steal from them in this game? Does it do something that makes the game unplayable?
>Does it do something that makes the game unplayable?
No no lol
If i recall, right before the elite four, a pack of israelites gathers up and says you got pay for your crimes and its gauntlet with some really good teams.
You can find the event on israelitetube.
Frick them, I'm stealing them anyway. They pay 0 cash in every fight, I deserve a penny at least.
All of their Pokemon have thief, and whatever they take, you lose permanently, so unequip everything in your party before you step foot in the pokemon league building or you might actually lose valuable items.
don’t listen to this guy.
steal from the israelites. just unequip all of your Pokémon’s items after beating s. Jackson. you get a free flame orb for guts/flare boost users and a free choice scarf
>just unequip all of your Pokémon’s items
Wait a frickin minute, is this why my quick claw suddenly frickin vanished?
yeah. unless it’s a “boss battle” like keksandra, edgie, a gym leader, or an elite 4 member, if they use thief, covet, trick, or the other clover moves that take your items, it’s over.
some wild Pokémon like Masdawg also know moves like Covet and Thief so don’t equip your items unless it’s a boss battle.
On the other hand, it also can work in advantage for player.
Fight witth Kymmie on Nugget Bridge is not technically a boss fight since one of last patches and you can steal her Knogoat's Eviolite, which is pretty handy item to get early in the game.
Are any battle items one of a kind per save or are they available later for purchase somewhere?
>and will make you laugh.
Maybe if you're too young to own a handgun
For real it is that good. I love how clover doesnt take itself seriously unlike most romhacks that are hellbent on delivering their shitty storyline. Clover's nonexistent plot is refreshing additionally with the actual funny humor.
a couple years ago there was a new patch that added a lot of postgame content but also removed a lot of the "Ganker humor" (n-words)
>bunch of liberal troony shit
You're absolutely right. The game is so left-leaning, it has several Pokemon based on stereotypes, multiple trainer classes also based on stereotypes, and the number of noticeable characters that are some kind of minority are in the single digits. Oh, and the dialogue which features such liberal newspeak as "homosexual" or "Black person".
how hard would it be to extract the rom.
I used the pokémon I liked and didn't EV train. However, I did use save states before and during fights and even then some fights (Champion and Post-game final boss) were hard enough to almost make rage quit out of frustration, if I didn't beat the post-game boss the try I did I would've probably given up
I'm going through it and it's kicking my ass because I'm not good at pokemon!
Both brock and tumblritta and close to every named encounter in the game is a real struggle. First time I actually had to take the pity trade in a pokemon game just to get past the gym leader. I'm using potions in battle and my cash's always low cuz i try to catch anything I find just to have the option. Wonder tradin's good fun too!
Also evolving my Sapleaf into THAT when I was trying to train for tumblritta was a fun highlight, lol.
Also wtf is up with caroline or whatever that bird's name is? And why's it got landorus typing?
If you find it, give her the bible. She will become a monster.
Git gud
:^)
XD
Pokemon Company says "Free Palestine" and "Death to the infidels"
It's fricking tragic how much worse Lizakbar is compared to the other two starters
t. got one with a -speed or -spatk nature
Lizakbar is a sweeper
Oh no he's plenty strong, specially after the recent buffs. Priority fire explosion is amazing.
I meant design wise.
Oh so it's a taste issue then
Is it? I feel like the other two still look kinda cool despite being jokes. Lizakbar just looks goofy and weirdly proportioned.
I'd say he does his gimmick pretty well. A stab explosion with priority may as well be a "eat shit" button. Not helping me currently at the fire gym but he's had his uses.

different anon who started playing clover a few days ago (just entered the crashed UFO)
few comments;
1. having a lot of fun overall, I really like how they handled the xp share that lets you rapidly operationalize new mons
2. trading seems a bit... useless or even counterproductive in early game... I had wondertraded machoma and regular traded praunch and they're both great but CONSISTENTLY hit disobedience level cap via standard progression very quickly and are unusable in gym battles or go rogue mid trainer-battle, after second gym I just benched em because they were a bit of a liability when things really mattered
big question tho;
Is this a game where you're supposed to build a "core team" or one where you're supposed to be frequently swapping in/out new mons? Most other pokemon teams in the past I recall being more of the former, but the scaling xp share here really seems to imply the latter? also with it being all OC mons, I really have no fricking idea at a glance of what has final stage evolution that I will 100% want in the future etc... yeah sure I can look it up online what something evolves to and what moves it learns later, but short of reading up on ALL the mons, you really need some frame of reference to say if X is "good" overall or just "good" relative to what you're familiar with at a given moment
^question related to how I keep finding new and interesting mons (ayylamo, crystaquil to name a few), catching them, and not sure if I want to cycle them into my current team (iguallah, midrill, clovour, nauseon, troubait, burdmen)
>Is this a game where you're supposed to build a "core team" or one where you're supposed to be frequently swapping in/out new mons?
I've been having to swap constantly after about the half way point. NPC teams start pushing your shit in if you can't match up types. Which like you mentioned is difficult when it's hard to tell at a glance what types are what. I've gotten to the point where every major fight I'm basically having to rethink my entire team. Progress has slowed majorly for me.
the other problem with types is even if you have the wiki up regularly to check mon types and evolution chains, almost all mons have some trolly STAB-counter, like "oh look a water mon, I'll use grass, haha they have ice moves"
one weird thing I've found strangely effective when the rest of my team was getting 1shot is status effects; sleep and poison while typically a meme seem to be reasonably effective for stalling and squeezing out wins against superior forces, early game anyways nauseon's poison point + clouvor's grass whistle have been strangely clutch at tough moments.
but yeah at this point I basically save before starting any trainer battle because who is first in my lineup and first strike can be the difference between victory and defeat
>almost all mons have some trolly STAB-counter
Get used to that. There's one fight where dude has a fire/dragon which has an ability that lowers water and ice moves. Okay, water/fairy for a counter. Lol jk it also has an electric move and roost. Frick that guy.
yeah I'd been getting that impression, I think my strat moving forward is going to be not really worrying about STAB sweepers as much (I guess they *can* work if they have enough speed to 1shot) but atk/spatk sweepers with an good type coverage stat-relevant offensive moves
and I guess high def/hp stallers could be handy too, which is interesting because they're literally a mon type I never thought much about or used in mainline games
also; camouflage as a move. I picked in up on a whim because I had stuff I was fine with replacing but it has been absolutely clutch to deal with the STAB-counter trolly stuff on certain occasions
>high def/hp stallers could be handy too
There's more than a few mons that have stats intended for that purpose, and an extreme 90% majority of the entire cloverdex has setup sweeping potential
>which is interesting because they're literally a mon type I never thought much about or used in mainline games
Because GameFreak are terminally incompetent, and don't play their own games and make proper use of their own game mechanics. The fans do, and Clover is made and contributed to by many of them right here on /vp/. In mainline, many tanky walling mons go unused or worthless due to their typing or stats or other functional flaws that make them borderline unusable. Here in Clover you have more real potential for creativity than you'd expect with more mons than you'd think ever work
You can do both. I usually play with a core team, but when i did my nuzlocke attempt it was by swapping mons
>Is this a game where you're supposed to build a "core team" or one where you're supposed to be frequently swapping in/out new mons?
About 50/50. Find 2-4 pokemon you really like, and use the remaining slots to train up pokemon to experiment and counter, only shelf them for a moment if they're really badly suited to a gym or something.
It's easy to get some guys up to snuff, and you never know what might come in handy later, or become a new favorite when an old one falls off.
What are all those programs on your taskbar?
I did a core team, just switching out mons every now and then when I found a new bro. Because I was unfamiliar with every mon, I just leaned into designs I liked best and playstyles I enjoyed (frick yes Phantash stall).
so uhhhhhhh what's the deal with thief and stealing items? you can steal all sorts of shit but you don't actually want to ever equip it because any tough enemies will just steal from you too?
also is it just me or did confusion get nerfed into the ground? (not really a complaint) I think I've seen "hurt itself in its confusion" like 1/20 times when my or enemy mon is confused, and it also did surprisingly little damage
tough enemies are almost always boss fights.
in boss fights, (rivals, gym leaders, e4, significant trainers, Leon, etc…) you cant steal items from them and they can’t steal items from you, and consumable items like focus sashes or berries are not consumed upon finishing a boss battle.
you unequip your important items for beating up random route trainers and wild Pokémon (so you can thief their items and they can’t thief your items) and equip your items before a boss battle.
also you should steal from merchants. just always remember to unequip your items after Samuel Jackson. you can get a free flame orb and a choice scarf from these fights if you go in with no items equipped, two items which are not easy to come by until postgame
No you do not need to EV train in the main campaign, anyone telling you you do is an absolute turbo shitter.
When you get to postgame however you'll find a facility that lets you EV train super quickly and it's recommended for the Postgame bosses.
What are some good mons to catch? I refuse to look up the guide or wiki.
Roynapalm and Upchucken prevos
they are a destructive team
Uwotto is mpv
Where do I catch those? Just got to the ghost town? Should I buy the masta balls? Tyrone Bigums gots tha ballz for 5k
>buying from blacks
>AYO DEY CHEAP BALLZ homie!!
Spookster, Spookeer, and into Spookzilla are PROBABLY the single best pokemon you can have on your team before postgame, barring wondertrade or maybe Sprucifex, especially since I think Semdemen got nerfed.
Spookzilla can punch holes in teams and steal wins against stuff that should push its shit in.
Get its pre evo with Levitate, iirc, it turns into Intimidate.
I'll also say, if you're not there yet, pick the rock snake as the second starter. All three are pretty good, but Oburanyxo is one of the best pokemon in the game for the elite four specifically.
>for the elite four specifically
Damn, that's where I am now and already know my entire team needs a overhaul. Just barely made it through victory road. Is the israelite event always programmed to happen though? Don't recall ever actually stealing anything. Glad I read about that shit here
>Is the israelite event always programmed to happen though?
Only if you stole from them
From my Playthrough? Here are some of my MVPs. Cacadaemon, Premantom, Motherfrick, Marleyzard, Condoom, Anaconduke, Deathorus, Sombulodo, Tankube (w/Evolite), Nomaestro.
For overall strategies? Anyone who either has buffing move like Coil or Calm Mind combined with either a Life Draining Move or Softboiled, Recover, Roost, etc. tends to be an amazing combination for survivability.
>For overall strategies
For the Champion specifically, their AI can get a little fricked if their stuff gets poisoned. This can help because of how generally bulky their stuff is, they might start switching instead of doing actually good things. Toxic isn't a bad way to get over some of their strongest pokemon anyways, it's worth a team slot.
Also, setup sweepers are generally really inconsistent until you really really know who to use, and know what has to be dead. Get your kill, then really think about if it's worth it to risk it.
Don't get greedy when you're ahead, usually.
they fricking murdered sedemon
for what purpose
it wasn't even busted like marleyzard
just remove scald
>it wasn't even busted like marleyzard
>>>HE DOESN'T KNOW
You don't understand how insane of a crutch gamebreaker he was. Now there's actual downsides to using him without stopping him from being good
I did know. It was strong but fine. Nowhere near as bad as toxapex, It was just a solid and good stallmon. Why can't things be good? It wasn't gamebreaking like baton pass.
Semdemen was the most busted thing ever are you on crack
t. someone who got carried by a semdemen in 1.2
All I want is an early Davyjaws.
any 'clever' solutions to beat 3rd gym rather than just spending a shitload of time grinding my ground-attack having dudes up? (~lv25 middrill and crystaquil and dig and bulldoze respectively; both do good damage, but they ALWAYS go second, and also go down in a couple hits to electro terrain boosted attacks, I guess I got wedgard and semdrop in box, but they're like lv 10 and I've exhausted all the trainers up to where I am and I think grinding on wild mons would take absolutely forever, the "best" grind option I can think of seems to be the battle club house where you seem to be able to infinitely re-battle those 4 trainers with lv25-ish mons, but I also don't want to push my 27s past 30 and have them all start disobeying either)
Tbh, I just pushed through.
I forgot my team, but I wish I could've captured that punching banana. I was a dumbass, so instead of using recycling Sitrus Berry punching nana, I killed it out of spite for locking me into 50 turns.
Also, I didn't have a ball.
This game shits on you, but the moment you realize it, you find out is also broken as frick. You must master the art of cheese to get it.
yeah... I more or less understand what I could do to beat this gym, I was just wishing that there was a faster solution than grinding up a new team to do it; or if there was some unexplored area with lots of trainer battles I could use to facilitate said grinding up some ground-types/move-havers, and also I don't want my "usual" team members to hit level cap and all stop obeying orders, guess I'll just get back to it tomorrow, don't think any creative application of what I have on-hand is going to push through this hurdle tonight, I just need to get some other mons leveled up
Did you get Protect from your trip to Singles Island? Anonymouse doesn't have terrain ext so you can pretty quickly stall out the electric terrain
the lifting trainer north of the city has a choice band you can thieve from him
old sprites
I wonder how broken Pokfusa could've been.
Oh it's broken alright
A piece of shit, just like the entire game.

Is stealing from israelites the only way to get a flame orb?
I think you can get one postgame in Mt. Keketoa, so stealing from the israelites is the quickest way to get one
before elite four, yes
afterwards, see
and no, none of the wonder trade pokemon hold flame orb
I forgot how exhausting the evil team parts are. Easily my least favorite part
I renamed my Caroline into Carryline after I got a bible through wondertrade
I stopped after beating their version of the Rocket lair just to be instructed to storm another lair right after.
Frick this shit, this is the shittiest part in all Pokémon games. I ain't doing it twice in a row.
The sewer hideout is only like 4 trainers and the boss with healing beds in there, it's fricking nothing just go fight them coward
Boarnograf my beloved
It's such a cool pokemon, holy shit.
I usually don't like using the legendaries, I've used most of them, not all of them are busted, but Boarnograf is just so fricking cool.
Regirode and Notridley is also pretty fun.
Of the ones I've used, Endranther is probably the strongest. It doesn't have the raw sweeping power of a few of the legendaries, but it's disgusting how well it trades into bad or neutral matchups.
I think if you bring Boarnograf to that one pirate in the ship at Torarbor Bay in postgame, but ONLY after you clear the whole sidequest, you get special dialogue
Until postgame, a good nature for the mon's role is all you need. Even a neutral nature is fine for the whole trip. Once postgame is reached you'll get grinding and breeding help in Dubs Island, and you have no reason not to get a full team of 31 IV and max EV mons and try out literally any mon you feel like using.
is that mujahideer?
I feel like an idiot for not abusing the pickup ability earlier. Just got a fricking leftovers along with revives and full restores. Farming sellables on top of that, there goes my main complaint, lack of money.
Can't stress this enough for other newcomers struggling with money. Compound eyes and thief on chompest for sell items and the rest of the party with pickup. Within like 30 mins of farming I had enough resources to comfortably beat the league.
Are there any updated documents for clover? All I got are for 1.2
I've been using this website:
https://clover-wiki-replacement.netlify.app/
all the info has been right so far
Thank you brother.
The explicit stated reason why the devs hated the wiki and always preferred people use the official google docs or wiki replacement (once it got made), is that the wiki can be edited by anyone. It used to be a common trolling pasttime to vandalize the wiki with misinfo to frick with all the moronic normies that immediately resorted to using it. Anybody seriously wanting the clover wiki back is always derided and shat on by them for this reason. Wiki replacement is managed and maintained by one anonymous non-dev autist and all the info on there is solid, and the guy fixes any problems you find and submit via the feedback page. In fact the site is way better at sorting and conveying information than the google docs are, and everybody loves it.
Good to know we have one verifiable source, even if that source happens to be anonymous.
Feels like some sort of meta commentary: Clover is a Ganker game, and only Ganker has the guide.
I actually prefer downloadble google forms but what you're saying is pereferable too
ty bro
Is another update planned for this masterpiece?
Just 2.0, the last update.
battle channel when
Can you change IVs, EVs, natures and abilities in Clover?
IVs and EVs postgame, ability pills are rare but exist pregame, natures no
>natures no
Dropped.
Ive played through this thing twice and nothing buttblasted me more than the fricking stump fight, that shit is ridiculous
