What was your guys' "wake up call" moment?
Like, the moment you realized that you'd actually have to pay attention to natures and use a real strategy in this game?
For me, it was Lil Bro.
Carlito.
Before that, I'd wipe to every important trainer once, then come back with an actual strategy and win.
After Carlito, I actually EV trained and the rest of the game up to the champion ended up being too easy, only wiping one more time (to Stump).
Carlito was when I realized you were limited to 4 items per battle. My initial plan was to overclock and X items and just sweep him but after refusing me to use a 5th item I had to go away and strategize.
There were a couple fights before this that were hard, but Stump is just so goddamn brutal.
Even on multiple playthroughs, he's hard, and he has ended more of my Nuzlockes than anyone else, either outright or by massacre of any pokemon capable of taking on the league and setting off a fatal death snowball
I was already paying attention to natures, like I would catch maybe 3 of a pokemon and pick the one with the best nature, but the first battle that gave me trouble was Carlito. Backtracked and caught a marionettle ro deal with him.
Keksandra 4 (Esfores) was even worse. I brought back marionettl just for the sake of toxic spikes, let it learn knock off, and gave it a white herb so that it could get 2 layers off and knock flowre's eviolite off before dying
Currently at outcast, heard the fire leader and stump are hard but I should be able to manage
I boxed my starter and used Clovour instead, turned it into Kuuroba. Debating if I should do that again for my current playthrough. I've never used Chanlour.
I ended up going with Chanlour this time.
I skipped Brock so I had to do Rock Tunnel without Flash, my whole party was dead except my Iguallah who had red health. I found the midget there and didn't feel like leaving the cave so I used my only max revive on my clovour and used the leaf stone you get in Rock Tunnel on it.

Ah yeah I didn't think about patreon. I always forget about that because it kind of flies in the face of the notion of the free rider problem. You'd imagine if people can get full access to something for free, they'd just take it, especially with how the internet has conditioned people. In case you guys didn't know you could use Hex Maniac Advance to edit in the new sprites yourself. It's not perfect but it's better than nothing, that new Sesquatch sprite is awesome. I needed to have it.

What was the point you realized you had to gid gud (ex. Snoop, Freddie, Lil Bro, whatever)? Defining moments or things you can recall and point out?
Hitmonana is probably the most "hated to goat" pokemon for me.
I hated the design, thought it was shit, and just hated that it took up dexspace.
Having played through the game a few times, done a few Nuzlockes, I'm still not keen on the design, but it's a surprisingly dependable workhorse pokemon. It's one of the best answers to Carlito, performs well pretty much every time you'd want it to, it's just a solid, serviceable pokemon.
To a lesser extent, Oburanyxo. I had no strong opinion on it whatsoever, besides being the least interesting of the Ebin starters.
Especially once I started nuocking it, Oburanyxo is one of the strongest pokemon in the entire game, I consider it THE single best pokemon for the Elite 4, and, tragically, it's such an auto include that I can't even remember the last time I picked one of the other two. Batterex isn't even bad, but holy shit.
The reverse happened with Warudio. I love the design, its cry always makes me smile, I want it to be good so bad... but it just isn't. It can sweep some NPC trainers, I'm sure there are a few clutch matchups, but it's so unreliable. Doesn't QUITE hit hard enough to reliably oneshot, is too frail to take hits, doesn't quite outspeed really fast pokemon, the thing is always just a little short of what I want it to do.
Also Dreameme. I got Rolango from the Mystery Egg on my first playthrough, it was good, it evolved, was good for a minute, then dropped off hardcore. Thing's a piece of shit. Unfortunately. A lot of the Kekkoh Pokemon are unfortunately like that.
Hilarious how you shit on Warudio and Dreameme when both are part of the OU core. Warudio outspeeds almost everything but a few mons and has Regenerator, Dreameme has Multiscale and plenty of support with insane defenses. For Warudio, people run regen, cc, uturn, knock-off, filler, max atk and speed, jolly or adamant, life orb. For Dreameme, people run moonblast, mop, softboiled, heal bell, max hp and def, bold, lefties. I've seen assault vest Warudio work well. On the other hand, Hitmonana and Obu are both RU

If I had to guess Condoom is super bulky, especially with Unaware. Kuuroba attack is so huge it likely has no switch-ins that wouldn't die in 2 hits, same for Scrappy Funnedong.

original OP of what you were replying to here, If I were to list every aspect of what I liked I would just post the rom download. I truly believe there are no cons to this game (that are not intentional).
I really liked the design concept of making the game unNuzlockeable. Really emphasizes how every slot on your shitpost team matters, even losing one member in a battle impacts how you can proceed with the rest of the fight.
every text of dialogue has meaning, whether from a reference that a subjective audience would understand, a clever joke is constructed regardless of social acceptance, or just a flat out shitpost. Very few games are constructed in a way that has the player not skip through text.
But what I enjoyed from Clover the most vs official Pokemon games is the sheer amount of content that can be experienced. Extra Gyms, Ebin Islands, numerous dungeons and puzzles to tackle, postgame is essentially required/part of the maingame, and a ton of legendaries to catch (albiet the low catch rates and RNG from catching pokemon will always suck). Even when game developers from gen 3-5 constructed what most fans consider the "golden age" of the franchise, the features that were included in those games came from a sense of obligation. Gamefreak HAD to include a lengthy campaign with numerous amounts of features and side content not just because they really wanted to, had high standards, or took pride in their work, but because they had to make sure these games couldn't be beat in a few days in order to counter the video rental market of the time and Nintendo's slow adoption of the modern woes of the game industry (Online multiplayer issues, DLC, predatory consumer practices, etc.).
Clover feels like a Pokemon game developed in an era when enjoying the game mattered more than selling it. Because that is exactly how Clover was developed, and excelled further than most fan projects.

I don't really hate any of the fakemons in this game. Since Clover is a parody, it doesn't have to worry about that. Yet some of the designs are cleverly drafted with aspects of official creature designs.
If I didn't like a mon I wouldn't use it. I guess Caroline the talking quail fits that description. I liked the bootleg Christian cartoon theme but without the prior knowledge it looks like a generic bird poke design. but it was my reliable Fly user with frequent crits (Bible + Super Luck) to bypass stat buffs.
Music is no doubt nothing but bangers, but Veepier Town will always be etched into my mind. It's already making me feel nostalgic for Clover.

You're on the much older version. New version has the complete Ebin Islands, a full on post-game. Only downside is the Battle Channel no longer works but should 1.3 ever come out the real one you gays then it'll hopefully come back.

Getting ready to fight Freddie. Bukitlee just needs more levels. I haven't beaten the game with Lizakbar yet. It's definitely the weakest of the starters since the others are bulkier and have the means to heal themselves, but I lucked out with the Modest nature so Snarl and Flamethrower put in work, plus it has Memento.

The first time I really got wrecked and had to grind+change team was the electric gym leader, don't remember why.

Before that, I'd wipe to every important trainer once, then come back with an actual strategy and win.
After Carlito, I actually EV trained and the rest of the game up to the champion ended up being too easy, only wiping one more time (to Stump).
Carlito was when I realized you were limited to 4 items per battle. My initial plan was to overclock and X items and just sweep him but after refusing me to use a 5th item I had to go away and strategize.

I was already paying attention to natures, like I would catch maybe 3 of a pokemon and pick the one with the best nature, but the first battle that gave me trouble was Carlito. Backtracked and caught a marionettle ro deal with him.
Keksandra 4 (Esfores) was even worse. I brought back marionettl just for the sake of toxic spikes, let it learn knock off, and gave it a white herb so that it could get 2 layers off and knock flowre's eviolite off before dying

I boxed my starter and used Clovour instead, turned it into Kuuroba. Debating if I should do that again for my current playthrough. I've never used Chanlour.
Chanlour is a godsend for Grass monos
there's no excuse not to run any of Clovour's evolutions
I ended up going with Chanlour this time.
I skipped Brock so I had to do Rock Tunnel without Flash, my whole party was dead except my Iguallah who had red health. I found the midget there and didn't feel like leaving the cave so I used my only max revive on my clovour and used the leaf stone you get in Rock Tunnel on it.

They rarely get monetized, if ever. It's a risky endeavor, although there are exceptions that have gotten away by using loopholes like PokeMMO.

What was the point you realized you had to gid gud (ex. Snoop, Freddie, Lil Bro, whatever)? Defining moments or things you can recall and point out?
Hitmonana is probably the most "hated to goat" pokemon for me.
I hated the design, thought it was shit, and just hated that it took up dexspace.
Having played through the game a few times, done a few Nuzlockes, I'm still not keen on the design, but it's a surprisingly dependable workhorse pokemon. It's one of the best answers to Carlito, performs well pretty much every time you'd want it to, it's just a solid, serviceable pokemon.
To a lesser extent, Oburanyxo. I had no strong opinion on it whatsoever, besides being the least interesting of the Ebin starters.
Especially once I started nuocking it, Oburanyxo is one of the strongest pokemon in the entire game, I consider it THE single best pokemon for the Elite 4, and, tragically, it's such an auto include that I can't even remember the last time I picked one of the other two. Batterex isn't even bad, but holy shit.
The reverse happened with Warudio. I love the design, its cry always makes me smile, I want it to be good so bad... but it just isn't. It can sweep some NPC trainers, I'm sure there are a few clutch matchups, but it's so unreliable. Doesn't QUITE hit hard enough to reliably oneshot, is too frail to take hits, doesn't quite outspeed really fast pokemon, the thing is always just a little short of what I want it to do.
Also Dreameme. I got Rolango from the Mystery Egg on my first playthrough, it was good, it evolved, was good for a minute, then dropped off hardcore. Thing's a piece of shit. Unfortunately. A lot of the Kekkoh Pokemon are unfortunately like that.
Hilarious how you shit on Warudio and Dreameme when both are part of the OU core. Warudio outspeeds almost everything but a few mons and has Regenerator, Dreameme has Multiscale and plenty of support with insane defenses. For Warudio, people run regen, cc, uturn, knock-off, filler, max atk and speed, jolly or adamant, life orb. For Dreameme, people run moonblast, mop, softboiled, heal bell, max hp and def, bold, lefties. I've seen assault vest Warudio work well. On the other hand, Hitmonana and Obu are both RU

If I had to guess Condoom is super bulky, especially with Unaware. Kuuroba attack is so huge it likely has no switch-ins that wouldn't die in 2 hits, same for Scrappy Funnedong.

original OP of what you were replying to here, If I were to list every aspect of what I liked I would just post the rom download. I truly believe there are no cons to this game (that are not intentional).
I really liked the design concept of making the game unNuzlockeable. Really emphasizes how every slot on your shitpost team matters, even losing one member in a battle impacts how you can proceed with the rest of the fight.
every text of dialogue has meaning, whether from a reference that a subjective audience would understand, a clever joke is constructed regardless of social acceptance, or just a flat out shitpost. Very few games are constructed in a way that has the player not skip through text.
But what I enjoyed from Clover the most vs official Pokemon games is the sheer amount of content that can be experienced. Extra Gyms, Ebin Islands, numerous dungeons and puzzles to tackle, postgame is essentially required/part of the maingame, and a ton of legendaries to catch (albiet the low catch rates and RNG from catching pokemon will always suck). Even when game developers from gen 3-5 constructed what most fans consider the "golden age" of the franchise, the features that were included in those games came from a sense of obligation. Gamefreak HAD to include a lengthy campaign with numerous amounts of features and side content not just because they really wanted to, had high standards, or took pride in their work, but because they had to make sure these games couldn't be beat in a few days in order to counter the video rental market of the time and Nintendo's slow adoption of the modern woes of the game industry (Online multiplayer issues, DLC, predatory consumer practices, etc.).
Clover feels like a Pokemon game developed in an era when enjoying the game mattered more than selling it. Because that is exactly how Clover was developed, and excelled further than most fan projects.

I remember it being said that that is explicitly coded to trigger if the player uses Thief to steal an item from any israelite's mons in the entire game. If you use Covet or Trick or Switcheroo or Swindle, it does not flag. And yeah, Vyglass is meant to be a regular anon into pokemon that made his own tulpa Clovenix and somehow got actual power from it to create his own world with his own meme Arceus.

I don't really hate any of the fakemons in this game. I usually don't play fangames because of fakemon designs as they don't usually follow any design philosophy that would lead a sense of a official aura to them. Since Clover is a parody, it doesn't have to worry about that. Yet some of the designs are cleverly drafted with aspects of official creature designs.
If I didn't like a mon I wouldn't use it. I guess Caroline the talking quail fits that description. I liked the bootleg Christian cartoon theme but without the prior knowledge it looks like a generic bird poke design. but it was my reliable Fly user with frequent crits (Bible + Super Luck) to bypass stat buffs.
Music is no doubt nothing but bangers, but Veepier Town will always be etched into my mind. It's already making me feel nostalgic for Clover.
I realised I had to git gud against Carlito, as before I had challenging battles but for now on even a team comprised of the same mon would be a challenge and cannot be sweeped by one lead party member.
With a game that never has a dull moment, it's hard to say what was a definitive moment for myself. It's more of a personal one, but the closure the villian has after being defeated in the final battle really resonates with my closure with the official pokemon series moving forward. Pokemon means a lot to me and seeing the current state of the franchise really bums me out, but I can appreciate the impact the games I grew up with had on myself and my love of gaming. I would have never discovered RPGs that remain my absolute favorite games of all time if Pokemon didn't break the barrier that seperates normies and hardcore gamers.
