Interesting that neither codex nor /vrpg/ discusses this game at all. Personally I think it's a massive step down from JA2 mechanically, meaning it's shit and deserves zero praise. Like how do you fail to surpass a 25 year old game? Furthermore, codexers infamously screech that ja2 isn't an rpg, so just all around mind boggling, but I guess the site is just unprincipled morons now. Not a very respectable choice.
JA2? The majority of the game is player vs environment with a strategic layer minigame. You take a party of adventurers with unique talents and lead them acrossed the country talking to NPCs, managing resources, honing their skills, clearing "dungeons", and fulfilling quests, with accompanying CnC. There are a variety of specializations that drastically alter how the game is played. It says rpg on the box in big letters. It's an rpg.
>Not a very respectable choice.
I think I've lost all respect for codex. It's like a switch flipped in me this year and I realized they're all morons who have no idea what they're talking about. Codex used to be where you go for info on rpgs, but I feel more confident in myself and my ability to find information at this point on my own than I do in them.

The student surpassed the master, your training is now done. You are ready to become a true RPG connoisseur
That's been rpgcodex for literally forever. Only good for its LP forum because people will LP games there that nowhere else with the same format will even touch.
Overwhelming majority of squad-based strategy games made in past decade are just clones of XCOM (2012) with different coat of paint. JA3 is basically just that, although it makes a bit more effort in giving personality to individual troops, it's mostly milking the JA2 (and at some points JA1) nostalgia rather than doing anything new. If you like the franchise, you'll want to play it once, maybe play it twice with different mercs, maybe even third time for a solo merc challenge, but that's about it, there's nothing else to talk about, at least until DLC or some noteworty mod shows up.
>Interesting that neither codex nor /vrpg/ discusses this game at all.

You mean the board for games they don't consider rpgs? How many replies does it have versus their BG3 thread? Let's not be disingenuous here.

(But UoC is player vs ai opponent not player vs environment, so not an rpg at all)
According to codex JA3 and UoC2 belong in the same subforum. UoC2 also has greater unit customization and CnC than JA3, and this is kind of the standard for wargames, so maybe they (and you) are just really ignorant.

Get a GRIP holy shit.
I read the thread on Codex, they straight up said they would have rated RT way higher except for all the bugs and an Owlcat dev even flat out apologized for it in the same reply chain. The fact that even Owlcat employees themselves acknowledge what a disaster the RT release is yet the fans themselves won't do it is hilariously sad.

Is it good though? I'm playing it right now, not even half-way through and idk...
Assault rifles feel useless, the difference between different sniper rifles (which are hilariously OP) isn't all that great, I don't know why SMGs and pistols/revolvers are in the game.
Elite/legendary mercs don't seem to be worth hiring when the fricking basic guys I hired on day 1 get the job done for a fraction of the price.
Enemy attacks are few and far in between, they follow the same routes seemingly all the time. Veteran militia buckbreaks them to oblivion...
Most weapon modifications are trash so you'll always end up using the ones that are clearly the best, rendering the entire system pointless.
>rogue trader >game of the year 2023 >literally, actually unplayable without toybox still

Why can't anyone make a decent fantasy-BASED squadbased tacticools anymore? It's always some variation of JA shooter-slop, and admitedly JA2 was a good game, but the rest are really mediocre at what they're trying to do - even aping a game doesn't end well for them.
World needs more Blackguards 1 (2 sucked balls) and less firearm bullshit. If you really wanna play with firearms, go play strategy or first person shooter, don't contaminate squadbased RPGs with this shaite unless you're the next JA2 (and you aren't).
Crown Wars The Black Prince is literally what are you asking for. There is also "black legend" that is renaissance inspired >and less firearm bullshit
Frick you, we need 15th-17th century tactic kinos

>2020: Disco Elysium >2022: Elden Ring >2023: JA3
I see zero rpgs in there. They only gave the 2021 to Pathfinder just because there weren't any non-rpgs to vote I suppose
Didn't HQ unanimously say this game was shit and vote BG3 over it even though they are le redpilled nazi chuddie forum? What is codex doing lmao, I'm really confused.
HQ is the forum trying to depozz BG3. Besides, both sites use different voting methods, on the HQ is a simple "vote for your goty" which favors the game most popular and most player. Codex uses a convoluted weighted mathematical method to prevent popular game from winning automatically - except the year Disco Elysium won, when they discarded all 1/5 votes to DE as troll votes for some reason.
It's a great game and a perfectly viable pick, it won because everyone that played it rated it 5/5, which it deserves. The only people that think otherwise are those who haven't played it. For fricks sake it's on GoG, which means it's free to try out in the usual places, maybe try actually playing the game before you talk shit.
BG3 was mass downvoted by newbie culture warriors. Considering that it's specifically users that joined in 2022 that are the problem, it might be sock puppet accounts of a single schizo. Would be interesting to see how their votes stack up with last year's poll to see if there's any correlation.
Who gives a frick? neonazis opinions dont matter. they are irrelevant and have no credibility, this is why they stay in their neonazi echochamber seething for all eternity.

The problem, as I see it, is that codex has become a cargo cult of sorts, and are now contrarian as an instinctual culture war mechanism rather than having any logic behind it, and this time their edgy contrarian behavior has led to everyone on the outside viewing them as simple minded morons rather than ebin grognards or whatever they wanted to project their image as, and I'm sure as this sets in they'll adopt a mob rule mentality and lynch anyone in disagreement to insulate themselves from embarrassment, and I'm sure roguey is already stoking the flames.
There is a serious possibility that I've played more JA2 than anyone on this site >le troon
And you should go back to codex and stay there, wouldn't want to catch any troon cooties.

*slaps you in the face with my big fat penis*
how about that pal
I played it and finished it
It was fun and good game but somehow failed my expectations, the TU system is ok but the damage system kind of pisses me off, with full auto/burst doing less damage etc
It feels very gamey, also characters went downhill HARD. In not saying the tone of JA2 was 100% serious but JA3 is kind of a clownshow in compression, if JA2 was 70% serious and 30% satire/comedy then JA3 is 70% satire/comedy 30% serious
It was silly in some places, serious in other
Opening cutscene, the hospital, devastation in starting area. Secret prison/labor camp. Those were all pretty serious
Then you had silly things like american tourists, eliot you idiot, tiger arena, bar brothers, lesbo in the porn shop etc
But even the comedic elements were pretty grounded
Meanwhile JA3? Mercs talk like clowns or parodies, you have wacky priest witch doctor in the church, nobody takes anything seriously aside from maybe the refugee camp part, you have silly enemy designs (one legged demoman enemies?) etc
I wish they kept it little more grounded
>I wish they kept it little more grounded
I don't. It's always refreshing to see a game that doesn't take itself seriously.
Vidya simply isn't meant for serious writing.
>I wish they kept it little more grounded
Frick that. JA2 was never serious either.

Of course i did, i even finished it twice >One legged legion demoman guys >Shaman priest guy >Wacky characters all over (zombie doctor chick, evil german, evil tribal slavedriver, bomb chick on starter island) >Mercs look like caricatures of themselves, what in JA2 was a nod, or reference now is a full blown personality of a merc (I'm looking at you gontarski)
Are some characters in Ja2 wacky? Yes, could they exist in real world? Absolutely
Can you say the same about JA3 characters? Frick no
Is it just me, or were the mechanics in JA2 changed in Gold/UB? I grew up playing version 1.07, the last official release by Sir-Tech, the original makers of the game. I tried Gold recently and something is off about it. The most noticeable difference is how energy works. In the original, once you drain an enemy's energy, he stays down for several turns, incapacitated. This worked well with night ops melee. But in Gold, after you knock out an enemy by draining his energy, he gets up immediately in the next turn.
kek
don't laugh!
I'll let you know these people are respected by the community for their refined taste in mass market consumer electronic entertainment!
Enjoyed it for the most part
some critique >game's main quest is heavily railroaded, you are pushed towards new zones constantly either by your diamond mines running out somehow, hidden timer or touching no-no story progression zone, game is rather dickish first time playing >game kind of wants you to give different combat options like using mortars, setting killzones with automatic guns and yet expects you to resort to stealth cheese heavily >game praises communism, I am not joking, executing psychotic communist gives you penalties >during the campaign you will be asked to save president, it is unlikely that you can save him without some cheese >merc line of sight is misleading sometimes, U.i might show you being able to target the enemy from new spot only to be blocked
other then weapon upgrade components being really rare that's about it.
have no desire to replay it frankly any time soon
>merc line of sight is misleading sometimes, U.i might show you being able to target the enemy from new spot only to be blocked
From the criticism listed, this is the one I agree with the most.

after 3e/3.5 (and 4th, if you were involved in tabletop), 5e seriously feels like improvement
>after 3e/3.5
3.5e is literally the best edition.
No it doesn't, it feels like a massive downgrade from literally any of those editions.
I would give you a serious answer but you replied with an owlshit character and there's simply not enough time to cut through the metric frickton of delusion I'm sure you exist under in an autosaged thread.
PF:KM > BG3
It's okay, I know you can't argue against this.
>not even RT
>not even colony ship
cuckdexers have been outed
making hate-jerking popular "normie" rpgs their priority, to the point of not actually liking rpgs so much their goty is a strategy game
>colony ship
Is this a good game? I heard it flopped and devs are closing.
>RT
The what?
He means rogue trader. Colony Ship is all right, but unfinished, the combat and the setting makes it worth playing. Bought it, I don't regret it.
RT is an decent game but it's coded by literal morons, while Colony Ship is outright unfinished.
JA3 is the long-awaited return of a classic franchise that literally nobody expected to be as good as it is.
>that literally nobody expected to be as good as it is.
Most weapon modifications are trash so you'll always end up using the ones that are clearly the best, rendering the entire system pointless.
>rogue trader
>game of the year 2023
>literally, actually unplayable without toybox still
Despite loving WoTR, I think I'm growing to actually hate the masses of Owlcat consoomers. You people are fricking pathetic, the mere fact that you think a game where everything past Act 2 is fricking broken, bugged, or simply unfinished and lacking any content can be GOTY is pure delusion.
Get a GRIP holy shit.
Learn the context boy
It's the only other rpgs in the top that could realistically contest 1st place besides bg3
If you really wanna play with firearms, go play strategy or first person shooter, don't contaminate squadbased RPGs with this shaite unless you're the next JA2 (and you aren't).
fantasy and tacticool are mutually exclusive
King Arthur Knight's Tale man.
>fantasy
Usually I'm all for it, but when it comes to squads I need muh guns.
Battle Brothers is probably the closest thing I've seen recently.
Crown Wars The Black Prince is literally what are you asking for. There is also "black legend" that is renaissance inspired
>and less firearm bullshit
Frick you, we need 15th-17th century tactic kinos
Ty bros, gonna test these out.
>15th-17th century
Expeditons conquistador for all its flaws was kino. Shame the system was moronic, unbalanced and came with stupid AI on top of it. Had they bothered fixing those 3 issues, it would have been one of the GOATs.
But yeah, I agree, the oldschool firearms had more soul than modern slop.
Just play battle brothers or field of glory medieval
Can you stop tranimeposting?
You might as well become a tripgay you fricking annoying piece of shit.
>Can you stop tranimeposting
No
If it triggers cuckdex I'm all for it. Anything to keep those gays off here.
I have long assumed this board was a refuge for rpgcodex rejects.
It is. That's why they are hating on both BG3 and JA3. Codex refugee troons are the worst schizos possible. /vrpg/ wasn't like that in the beginning. Now it's filled with the mentally ill.
King Arthur was good
Codex is a joke now. Even this place is more respectable.
>Codex is a joke now
Always has been. Its a place for Neo Nazis, you know the kind of people Hitler will burn without hesitation, untermenschen
YWNBAW
you'd think the hogwarts threads would have driven trannies off of vrpg and v
neonazi detected.
>haha 4chin doesn't like rpgcodex because we are based and they are woke
very organic posts cuckdexers
didn't expect less of a pathetic attempts from biodrones with no wits or imagination
>literally 'we did it reddit!' post
LMAO
that thread just keeps on giving
>Verification not required.
>2020: Disco Elysium
>2022: Elden Ring
>2023: JA3
I see zero rpgs in there. They only gave the 2021 to Pathfinder just because there weren't any non-rpgs to vote I suppose
Well chosen. JA3 was a fantastic game. Hopefully this gets more people to try and enjoy it.
They messed up really bad this time. This is going to hurt the site.
I voted for it because it's comfy KINO just like long war!!!!
Why would anyone care what an irrelevant RPG discussion forums thinks is their GOTY?
Even from a contrarian standpoint this is like the dumbest game they could have picked, holy hell it's really over.
Its a fine game lad
But it's not an rpg and that's the point
It's not a fine game, but it is an RPG.
Infinitron should leave that shithole and be the new /vrpg/ mod. Replace all the final fantasy and TES spam with news posts.
That seems kind of stupid.
Well I shan't be browsing codex any more. Seems they've jumped the shark.
>Nazis best game of 2023
saying this while being proud is peak moronic subhuman behavior, lol.
>hey guys look vrpg is literally resetera now haha
wait a bit more before you samegay next time gay
neo nazis my ass, they are neo loosers
Meds
Codex has fallen, /vrpg/ won.
Is this some sort of proxy war I wasn't aware we're fighting?
>we're fighting?
Anon they're already dead...
BG3 was mass downvoted by newbie culture warriors. Considering that it's specifically users that joined in 2022 that are the problem, it might be sock puppet accounts of a single schizo. Would be interesting to see how their votes stack up with last year's poll to see if there's any correlation.
Who gives a frick? neonazis opinions dont matter. they are irrelevant and have no credibility, this is why they stay in their neonazi echochamber seething for all eternity.
imagine caring about how and what they vote for, its a W for games when they dont win there anyway.
Delusional.
I wonder if this will lead to another mass exodus.
/vrpg/ will have to become more outwardly homosexual than ever before to shield ourself from any migrating chuds.
The witch hunt is already beginning.
>and I'm sure roguey is already stoking the flames.
kek
Looks like shitdex really fricked up this time, finna go laugh at them then jerk off to anime
It's a great game but it is more of a tactics strategy than an RPG.
Did anyone else play the game in this thread or am i the only one and it's just shitposters here?
i played it but did not like it at all, so I guess what I say doesnt count
>did not like it at all
So you're a troon, good to know.
There is a serious possibility that I've played more JA2 than anyone on this site
>le troon
And you should go back to codex and stay there, wouldn't want to catch any troon cooties.
There is a serious possibility that i've played more videogames that anyone on this site so how about you go have a nice day. Go spread your shit opinions on reddit.
JA2 was pretty consistently silly.
But it wasnt a complete clownshow like JA3 is
JA3 is not a complete clownshow. Did you even play the game?
Of course i did, i even finished it twice
>One legged legion demoman guys
>Shaman priest guy
>Wacky characters all over (zombie doctor chick, evil german, evil tribal slavedriver, bomb chick on starter island)
>Mercs look like caricatures of themselves, what in JA2 was a nod, or reference now is a full blown personality of a merc (I'm looking at you gontarski)
Are some characters in Ja2 wacky? Yes, could they exist in real world? Absolutely
Can you say the same about JA3 characters? Frick no
I'm playing it right now my n-
>i like both Baldur's Gate 3 and Jagged Alliance 3
>i also like Cyberpunk 2077
Is it just me, or were the mechanics in JA2 changed in Gold/UB? I grew up playing version 1.07, the last official release by Sir-Tech, the original makers of the game. I tried Gold recently and something is off about it. The most noticeable difference is how energy works. In the original, once you drain an enemy's energy, he stays down for several turns, incapacitated. This worked well with night ops melee. But in Gold, after you knock out an enemy by draining his energy, he gets up immediately in the next turn.
I don't think people are going to ever take codex seriously again.
Tactics games are gay and emasculating. My badass hero should be able to cleave through hordes of enemies singlehandedly.
lol at the butthurt codexers in this thread mad that Ganker doesn't like them
Makes sense, nobody likes Neo-Nazis.
Pic related is me just as I'm about to save western civilization by logging onto the 'dex to complain about women and minorities.
They should rename codex to "Sensitive Male Gamer Safe Space For Cry Babies That Wish They Could Crawl Back Into Their Dad's vegana".
kek

huh?
I'm not mentally handicapped so I don't have a cuckdex account
Mediocrity
Enjoyed it for the most part
some critique
>game's main quest is heavily railroaded, you are pushed towards new zones constantly either by your diamond mines running out somehow, hidden timer or touching no-no story progression zone, game is rather dickish first time playing
>game kind of wants you to give different combat options like using mortars, setting killzones with automatic guns and yet expects you to resort to stealth cheese heavily
>game praises communism, I am not joking, executing psychotic communist gives you penalties
>during the campaign you will be asked to save president, it is unlikely that you can save him without some cheese
>merc line of sight is misleading sometimes, U.i might show you being able to target the enemy from new spot only to be blocked
other then weapon upgrade components being really rare that's about it.
have no desire to replay it frankly any time soon
Are you moronic? Don't answer. This was a rhetorical question.
you're a payne in the butt
>merc line of sight is misleading sometimes, U.i might show you being able to target the enemy from new spot only to be blocked
From the criticism listed, this is the one I agree with the most.
What is your favorite Jagged Alliance 3 song lads?
?si=rJFZ66BJDDsw7rhy&t=1316
Codexers are now eating each other, just as planned.
>some think codex is cucked beyond belief
>others think it's a neonazi hive
duality of /vrpg/
