How is it personal? The entire team roster is completely different every 5 years and you're lucky to get more than 2 seasons with the same core of good players without them transferring or going pro. They also only play their rivals once a year and maybe in a conference championship (provided they're in different divisons or with new rules in some conferences just taking the 2 best teams) where as in the nfl teams play their divison teams twice and if two teams dominate their divison for a long time theywill play each other yearly and likely sometimes in the playoffs. The nfl can have players stick on a team for over a decade with most of the core team remaining unchanged from season to season. How is not knowing who anyone on a college team is besides a handful of nfl hopefuls who will likely be gone next season on a roster of 100+ be more personal than the pros?

Pretty sure that anon is talking more about the fanbases when it comes to things being more personal. But even with the players, unless you're some massive school that's able to pull players from anywhere in the country, 90% of a school's football roster is going to be coming from the state they're located in and many of those players have been going at it since middle school or earlier. Mix that with the usual US city/area rivalry shit and you have more personal animosity that builds between teams.
It's the closest thing the US has to those Euro Football rivalries that happen because the two teams are located like 15 minutes away from each other.

That was true in the pre-free agency time period, but nowadays you have over half the roster of NFL teams changing from season to season while most College teams will have a large group of kids be on the same team from freshman to senior + redshirt year unless they frick with the transfer portal.

It's correct, if you consider action time as only the shit that happens from the time the ball is snapped to the moment that a guy gets tackled or scores a touchdown. The average football play only lasts like 5 seconds, so multiply that with the fact that each team gets about 60 offense snaps a game and you have your 11 minutes.
It looks weird and probably boring if you don't know shit about the sport, but there's a lot of shit happening in that 102 minutes that chart considers as just standing around.
Watching the lines scream to each other for longer than the actual play, every play is about as entertaining to watch as just standing around.
Football, in my experience, is only entertaining to watch straight through a second time or if it's prerecorded. There's just too much subtle shit that goes on to catch it all live, you're pretty much just watching roided out Black folk smash into each other with no thought behind it because 90% of the plays are "blink and you'll miss it."
I know sports are usually stereotyped as a dumb dudebro thing, but I've talked to a couple people who are really into American Football and they sound like they're speaking another language. Still not watching a handegg game anytime soon, but I respect all that weird crap they learned to enjoy the sport.
College Football is very popular outside of the US.
American Football is enjoyable if you think of it is as a turn based strategy game, and it's the best sport to watch with friends since the downtime allows you to chat, get food, analyze a play, etc. in between snaps. I used to be a reddit sportsball homosexual but it's pretty fun to get really autistic about all the different routes, defensive formations, player stats etc. Also a good scoring middleground where TDs are difficult enough that they feel impactful without being so difficult that you're subjected to hour long 1 score grindfests like in soccer.
Punting really becomes a neat strategy once you realize how they have to aim
Back in the day (talking the 1900s and 1910s here), lots of CFB teams ran what was called the "Triple Punt" formation. Essentially, it allowed you to run plays but also had a guy back deep to punt the ball if they didn't see anything so it forced the opposing defenses to drop some of their guts back deep to receive the punt or risk being pinned back extremely deep in their own territory. Kicking used to be far more important to the sport than it is today and it makes me seethe every time they nerf it further.

I've often tried to think of a hypothetical rule change that would put incentive back on kicking the ball to move it forwards. I like that Canuckball has a rule that allows any player to punt at any time (open field kick), I'd import that into the NFL if I could. Maybe abolish laterals as well, can only hand the ball off rather than pass. On a more extreme level I'd make it so a touchdown doesn't score a point, but rather gives the team a free opportunity at a field goal. Meaning the only way to score is to drop kick through the uprights.
Another ancient rule sort of similar to what you're saying; I can't remember exactly when this was abolished but I believe it was in the 1900s. Field goals and touchdowns used to be worth 5 points, but with a TD you could kick a PAT to give you 6. It made field goals and kicking matter much more.

Yeah, that's a vestige of the olden days. I'm not exactly sure when this got outlawed in the NFL but it used to be fairly common for players to just dropkick it to catch the d off guard.

Honestly its kinda a shame how little exposure the CFL gets, I like Canadian football a bit more than American. I think the problem is their postseason conflicts with the start of the NFL season. If they were smart they'd move their season up to start the week after the Superbowl, this way the Grey Cup falls right before the start of the NFL regular season. This way NFL fans can devote time and attention to the CFL whilst waiting for the NFL season to kick off. Football all year round

The transfer portal is going to turn Dynasty Mode into an infuriating hellscape, I can already tell.
There was a big lawsuit back when 14 came out that happened due to the players not receiving any money from having their likeness used in the NCAA games, so EA just dropped the games instead of dealing with that legal shit and focused on shitting up Madden and FIFA for the next decade.
A couple years ago the NCAA actually bent the knee when the schools got behind the players and threatened to pull out of the NCAA if they kept being overly strict with their rules on player compensation. Now that players can get sponsors, get recruiting benefits and sign off their likenesses to whoever (which has turned College Football into the wild west) EA jumped on that shit and brought back the College Handegg.
The entire point of college sports is that it's amateur. If the players are getting paid, they're professionals rather than amateurs. At which point the NCAA just becomes a minor league to the NFL (and NBA for that matter). Which violates the spirit of college sports.
The big mistake EA made was licensing real player names. They should've just been buying the rights to use NCAA member school names, and the schools should have the moral integrity to put that money into their sports programmes.

You tell them there's a giant community, non-profit based sports system where players (until now) are not mercenaries, that is connected heavily to the local area, is older then all soccer teams on earth outside the UK, and that they aren't soulless corporations like in European soccer, AND that this has teams have regular attendance of more than 100k, and their minds seriously are not able to grasp the concept

I don't think Football teams are organic at all, I think there are politics in play that compose the teams the way they are. You're led to believe that the best teams consist of 300LB linebackers because they're BIG AND CAN TACKLE PEOPLE, but I believe a team of lightweight men could outrun them, juke them, and make the big boys look like a bunch of clowns. I don't know the reason for it. Either millions watch for the spectacle of seeing BIG MEN on the field or there's something else making these the kind of players you see. I think the NBA has the same sort of problem.

Those politics are called "Coaches" and there's a massively varied amount of ways they want to put a team together to run their offense/defense. If there was a meta build for football teams the game would be boring as shit.
For example you've got college teams like WKU who almost always throw the ball which is how their QBs end up with massive meme numbers, then there's the service academy teams that will maybe throw the ball 2 or 3 times in an entire game. Both teams perform well because the coaches put together players that work with their system.

Unfortunately the NCAA recently banned any cut blocks outside of the tackle box so service academies have been forced to move away from the beautiful Option offenses and adopt more p*ssing plays and shotgun/nu football looks. This was very recent, I think two years ago. CFB is so soulless nowadays.
Only linemen hit 300 lb and for obvious reasons since they are sumo wrestlers and I guess you mean height in nba but that's a bad take too if you've played basketball at all height is everything, little guys have to work twice as hard for the same points and forget rebounding.

2K made the best sports games up to the 2010s. Dreamcast era 2K sport games are still some of the best for their respective sports.
