      Dev isn't easier. There are hundreds of times the textures needed for current games to look decent.

      That's just a fact of reality, simpler tools necessitate higher skill to produce a quality product. When things become too easy, stupider and less skilled people can enter the trade and bring down the quality of work altogether.

    The vidya industry was benefiting from bigger budgets and more resources from its growing popularity, but the industry wasn't quite yet big enough to be fully corrupted by mass market greed. This period lasted longer in JP game companies because they're more insulated from the israelite, but they eventually sold out too, particularly those with big branches in western countries. Games requiring more skill and ability to make also filtered out a lot of the grifters and hacks that flood the market today

      i mean 10 got by with just its tech, if it had the limitations of the ps1 most people i would assume probably rate it lower than most games.
      I adore ff11 but the game was just not done on release. the base game story is just a shitty story about a male hume having a ragey after a fem hume gets galkd. the first expac is a big step up and the 2nd to 4th are some of my favorite final fantasy stories of all time.
      11 base game also only had 11 jobs that were all pretty standard, and just bizarre changes like the teleport system just didn't exist. i didn't play the base game off 11 just on its own, i don't read Japanese but it just didn't look finished
