Fighting Games aren't an IQ-oriented skill. Unironically a primal chimp would beat the living dogshit out of humans if we could communicate enough with it to teach it moves, muscle memory, prediction and reflex are all the skills fighting games test for and chimps (and those closely related to chimps) beat the general population on that.

Largely depends on the game. Newer games that don't base themselves on legacy design choice have much higher opportunity to do so.
It's why something like GGST has EVO winners that come from places like Smash Melee and Overwatch. Even Melty Blood Type Lumina last year had a guy who mained Tekken got 3rd despite not having as much experience in it (never played it at any majors to my knowledge).
yup, hit the nail on the head there. legacy design does not treat new players well enough for them to gain confidence without lots of practice. But newer games, that aren't already built around legacy design those are the ones new players should be cutting their teeth on before engrossing themselves in 30 years of previous street fighter releases
f the game is slightly different muscle memory becomes a hindrance. That aside i think discouraging because of tournament homosexualry is wrong as most people will never play tournaments anyway and you can get good enough to play randoms in lower matchmaking to have fun within a day.

Not every field has to be for you anon. I've got like 128 or so and while I'm pretty fast at arithmetics, I could never get into the higher math, even calculus. It just never clicked.
