Games like BW or the 3DS gens were designed to be streamlined to the children of the times, but oldgays still bawl about them anyway.
I’m just saying after watching her vid it becomes pretty clear that Gen 2 is intended to be a simulation kind of game, not too dissimilar to Animal Crossing, with daily events, apricorns, day and night cycle, poke gear ect. You’re supposed to only play a bit at a time, explore old areas and battle old trainers.

No, and neither were early megaten games for that matter because monsters were just party members, having you actually raise them in a simulator style game wasn't a thing for the monster tamer genre until games like Monster Rancher where you actually had to raise it like a pet.
I feel like most Gens after 2 benefit from this “taking your time” approach, apart from maybe BW or SM which are more character focused.
Gen 2 and 4 are the only Gens that are truly designed around it though.
You’re not any more likely to miss out on content by beating say, any of the gen 3 games, in a week as opposed to several months, and that’s largely due to the lack of time based features. Gens 2 and 4 though, are brimming with time based features that encourage players to play incrementally each day, so trying to plow through the games in a short amount of time inevitably leads to problems like exp shortages that are caused by skipping content.
I honestly can't think of any time based mechanics in Sinnoh you won't just encounter playing the game in a binge.
Like, yeah, morning and night spawns, but the game is so slow you're going to run into those anyway.

You’re wrong, gen 2 and 4 time-based mechanics are significantly better simply because they operate on a much more reasonable timescale. Most things happen daily, with the absolute rarest events happening at least once a week, and that works because the games are clearly designed around keeping players consistently engaged in other things while they wait. Compare this to seasons, which take a literal fricking month to change in a game that’s linear and story based, with minimal side content to engage in during down time, so by the time the season actually changes you will have almost certainly moved on. Seasons don’t even have anything substantial locked behind them for literally this reason too, it just doesn’t mesh with the rest games design at all.
I still like seasons for the aesthetic changes but as a time based feature it’s trash
wish we could have a game with seasons like Unova’s and time-based events like Johto’s, but these games are going to be permanently phoned in now so we’ll never see it.

There are numerous pokemon right from the start of gen 2 that are exclusive to one of the three times of day, and there's also several things that rely on a daily/weekly schedule for their availability throughout the course of the game. Not to mention other world building elements like the radio and cell phone making the world feel alive in a way that was utterly revolutionary for the GBC. Just admit you never played them.
Murkrow can *only* appear at night and evolution stones are mostly gated by phone calls. Not to mention Lapras only appearing on Fridays. I'll just skip using those Pokemon altogether.
Even with that in mind it's not balanced/designed well. The issue with Johto is that it changes Kanto's many dungeons into various kinds of side content, but DECREASES difficulty and doesn't account as well for player choices in midgame. Players have little incentive to engage with the mechanics and are encouraged by the low difficulty and shit mon variety/learnsets to bulldoze through the game.
Polished Crystal shows that just adding a bit more variety to enemy teams, giving Pokemon more versatile learnsets, and giving enemy monsters decent stats slows the game down and makes the systems shine. Morty will wall you if you don't engage in rematches and go exploring. Falkner and Bugsy don't roll over and die like wimps, forcing you to actually use your full team.
A fantastic game is in there, but actual GSC is way too passive with the player.

The problem is that this is a Pokemon game which are designed to be beaten in under 24hours at the very most. You can beat these games in one-two sittings. Even as someone who likes GSC, I never bother with the time events when playing these games.
I feel the new approach of gen 9 where time changes in-game every 30 minutes or so is more conductive to Pokémon's gameplay than a real time clock.

Parts of it, like Viridian Forest and Pokémon Tower, were butchered because there's meant to be a contrast between traditionalist Johto and rapidly urbanized Kanto. I think one of the best comparisons between Polished and Legacy's ideas of making fights more engaging is how they handle Misty.
Polished gives her a Lanturn with an excellent moveset and a Kingler with beefy stats as a surprise sweeper.
Legacy gives her a Vaporeon and a fricking Kingdra.
