most everyone would recommend a controller, although personally i've played through DSR and the rest of the trilogy + ER with KBM without much issue... really depends on what you're comfortable with. would still have to hand it to gamepads overall if we're being objective since the KBM control scheme for these games isn't all that intuitive

I don't need linearity but I like it when my games have a good sense of pace, progression, rising stakes, and good story. Open world game design is usually antithetical to this because it's about approaching anything from any angle at any time with any approach. "Freedom" almost always kills focus in games.
Im 43, have collected 30 consoles, 3 arcade PCBs and 500 physical complete games since 2002, but I gave up. Dont like digital, hate always online, consoles have been overpriced shit hardware for a long time and wokeshit was the last nail in this coffin. At least for me.
