My crackpot theory is that V2 is going to come back somehow. V1's respawns are at least semi-canon, considering that MP acknowledges them, so I wouldn't put it past Hakita to asspull something with V2.
Loved the buildup towards his second encounter with his theme quietly playing. Shame we probably won't see V2 again, cause both encounters were great. Although I guess a vergil-like rival isn't really threatening when they get stomped on and their arm stolen twice.
Perhaps one of the final perfect bosses will be an ultimate V2 after all the weapons have been collected

does it? without the story ultrakill would be a boring, abstract shooter. the story elevates it from that, making it better. V2 without story would not be a rival, but instead just another boss. Gabriel without "BEHOLD THE POWER OF AN ANGEL" would be just another boss but this time with a long empty level leading up to him. and so on and so forth.
but there also isn't too much story as to distract from the gameplay. we don't need to know that us and V2 are made on the same factory by the same Thomas Light or whatever, we don't need to know the exact rank and file of Gabby, and so the game doesn't even try to tell us.
Ultrakill is a game of guns and the most important one in it's arsenal is Chekhov's Gun.

Public servers average 2-3000 players during peak hours when they're not getting spit roasted by hackers (which is most of the time), but there is a community made custom game client called northstar that should be close to release, if it's not out already. If it can catch on the game should have a few more years left in it.
Honestly hope it works out, Titanfall is unironically the best modern arena FPS around today.
Its not the best yet but It'll definitely be amazing when the game is fully released. The devs are amazing at making boss fights and fun mechanics and keeping in ones them and the community find.
