The 'logic' behind it is simple, albeit fricking moronic from every standpoint except a business one. Fantasy was in decline because of idiot rules pushing bad editions, and GW's decision decision at the time was to crash it and salvage names from the wreckage. To that end, Age of Sigmar was put into development.
The greatest issue is that GW established no proper process or method behind this aside from that certain characters would be made into larger scale centerpiece models to sell.
As such, little of End Times was properly planned out aside from "Everyone except these specific characters die". The Gods were included in this to facilitate the characters becoming Gods themselves.
Naturally this all backfired horrifically and resulted in the absolute abortion that was 1st Edition AoS. Lore was barely established by the time the game launched and many factions were added purely for their models rather than anything else, because GW at the time believed that people didn't care much at all about lore. (Keep in mind, this was the same GW management that pushed the Fall of Cadia, the Ynnari, and Guilliman's return in 40k).
Naturally this management style was suicidal, and the CEO of that time was replaced. AoS was widely rewritten and 40k's changes pulled the breaks, but Fantasy was already destroyed by then.

End times is so justly hated because every single advancement is caused by
1) someone acting like a moron
2) the author having a boner for nurgle/skaven

Unfortunately modern GW only views games as ads, hence why TWW and Vermintide only succeeded in the shadow of Fantasy's death. As such, no good big games can really be made, and when AoS games fail it's blamed on AoS rather than the game itself.

Well if I wanted to omit shit from fantasy, I could make sound like it's nothing but a boring historical as well. Just having some real world structure for a particular host doesn't make it interesting, not unless it's a grand remaining that's burgeoning something new.

Also I just wanna point out, that the mortal realms that have gotten fleshed out are really interesting. Not all realms are equal, because GW seems to only focus on realms based on what they are selling (which is cancer and is probably hurting the setting to am extent), but what's there is good.

Everytime I see people bring this point up I can't help but think of them as trannies wanting something to confirm to their ideals. The best part of fantasy has always been fighting against the wholly out of place creatures of the setting, no ifs or buts about it.

As someone whondoes not like AoS, I will share what I like about AoS.

What interested me about AoS was that instead of it being about the struggle vs the inevitable victory of Chaos, it kicks off with the age of reconquista which is usually far in the past for GW settings. It's an inversion of the usual themes, where you have the forces of order pushing back the darkness.

Some of the army themes are really cool just fricking fricked by GWs intern writing. Ex. The poster boy faction is a bunch of darksouls protagonist either einherjar made out of lightning Ghosts. The sky dwarves are sky dwarves living in the sky mining the fricking clouds for sky gold and living the ancap lifestyle. The ground dwarves are mercenary Spartans hoarding wealth because it's the blood of their God and they're trying to refill his corpse with it. The nature spirits have tree Gundam.

There are interesting ideas here they're just buried in dogshit.
