It's basically made for you to move clockwise through the whole thing in an ever expanding circle motion.
You can criss cross across the map if you want to. But that doesn't make the map "complicated".
And it has lots of fast travel points. Something you'd realize if you played the game for more than just a little bit. And there is no backtracking before the first boss.
