It's not even the formula really. Fromsofts games live or die on the basis of their level design and art direction. Nobody would give a shit about souls games if they didn't have dope dungeons to explore with cool bosses at the end and cool loot to find. Moreover it seems like they're one of the ONLY developers that still gives a shit about level design in third person games.
