Jeff Kaplan in one of the early Developer Update videos talked about how they specifically avoided this type of progression in OW1. In the alpha it was causing people to pick heroes they didn't want to play, didn't know how to play, or had bad matchups for the current game.
So yeah enjoy the quality of your games plummeting as people pick random shit to complete missions.

mid-10s sucked ass for online shooters, but even with a drought no one played Titanfall. You get what you deserve.
Titanfall has just to much cool stuff for the average gamer I guess. I thought it was really fun earning the titan and then getting an ulty. It was like overwatch but on steroids. Maybe it needed better game modes that weren't just variations of deathmatch and ctf. Like some actual objective based gameplay like ovw.(yeah I played the shit out of overwatch compared to Titanfall but overwatch was just a lot more engaging, objectives and titans with with a focus on utility could have saved the series imo)
