Crisis Protocol

Has anyone here played Crisis Protocol ? Is it good and fun? Are the models nice?

Heroclix exists if I want to play gay super heroes and I don't buy weird scale miniatures that will never see use because they are giants/midgets next to my other miniatures.

Considering that shit protocol is a worse game with off-scale impossible to reuse miniatures... Eh.

Also note, the heroclix sculpts are actually VERY good. If you are an actual hobbyist (and you should be if you are thinking of picking up crisis), you can strip the heroclix miniatures and get back all the detail the factory paintjob took away. Here's a random sample I took from google search. Heroclix dudes are also in a scale you can use in other games.

Looks better than the studio models for crisis protocol, and their production models can't possibly look better than the studio ones.

Dude that sculpt is not good. Look at the compartments on the belt, the lack of clear division between gloves and suit, the bad movement on the cape, the lumpiness on the head. It doesn't even have a bat symbol on the chest.
It's fine for something a kid would get out of a vending machine, but as a tabletop miniature, it's shit.

I mean, I would think Heroclix are fine for what they are, specially the recent ones were they made the sculps bigger, and better details....

Now if somebody thinks they look better than the others, that would be madness indeed.

I very much enjoy Heroclix but this is absolute shit.
Heroclix improved considerable but very much still look shit modelwise.
I very much enjoy the game but don't try to pull in with the model quality.
The game is quick, characters are very characterful, you can buy a blister and the game will have more soul then better then everyone else

They use acetone at the risk of destroying them. Common Heroclix miniatures were like 25 cents each at the time, but used the same sculpt as much rarer miniatures for the same guy. I haven't followed heroclix is something like 8 years, but it seems like they now sell the same miniatures from the boosters unpainted as singles.

        Lets not be insane.
MCP is very exensive, you want usually the core box + 3 boxes for your affliation.
Thats roughly puts you at 80+ 35 x3 = 185 $ gor around 15-16 miniatures and some terrains.
A AoS list usually cost around 300 - 600 $ dollars for around 2000 points.
But AoS has some great deals the Battleforces boxes (which are sadly missing spells) cost only 210 $ which is usually around 30 - 40% save on the contents.
Those are between 10 - 82 miniatures depending on the faction (skaven if course being 80 ones).
Generally you get around 24 miniatures.

BUT MCP lets you field everything with everything so naturally you can have a lot more cost.
Generally you field 10 people and pick based on the mission your team.
        The winner in October used a list which requires 7 boxes (7 x 35 = 250).
If you don't wanna print out cards it can be even more expensives.
And certain boxes have an insane peice hike like most minion boxes (Daredevil, Elektra and Shadow Hand Ninjas cost like 70 $) and some terrain boxes.
Generally for a casual or local tournament players 150 is enough to play any affliation while still having around 6 people to pick for taste.

Brotherhood is 56 + Pyro and Blob 35 + Crystal and my doggie boi Lockjaw for 38 + 39 for Scarlet and Quicksilver + Mr Sinister for 24 + 39 for Gambit and Rogue.
        Total also: 235 $ for 13 miniatures.
        Not cheap but not GW

So generally the core box 70 $ for 10 miniatures but not the most dynamic poses, 20-30 for a single miniatures.
          40-50 for a big miniatures.
70+ for a miniatures and useless terrain packed together.
30-40 for two miniatures + if you are lucky some bonuses.
          55 -60 for a affliation pack of 4 miniatures
50-70 for any pack with minions.

So fazit: Buy 2 boxes and print the rest yourself, STL files cost like 8.
Or buy the stl printed for 12.
If you find a good Captain Marvel tell me.

Most Marvel miniature will say if they are compatible with Marvel.
There isn't really another miniature game played with superheroes with any semblence of popularity.
Terrain set to 28 mm I usually upscale up to 118-128 to be actual fun but that really depends on what terrain.

It is sadly but you are paying for a character with a gigantic amount of copyright fees behind it each time.

              Anonymous

I'm willing to bet a good 30% or more of their cost goes towards licensing fees while they also have to account for the fact that very very few people will only ever buy one copy of the model so they need to factor in sculpting, playtesting, R&D, mold making, and engineering costs too and for a rather niche game at that. The prices aren't great, but I understand why they are the rate they are.

Two more shall rise is a trap. Not worth it and your opponent can just focus in on and kill one of your two leaders to negate it anyway. Hydra has no issue giving bleed either.
Mal is fucking busted even after his nerf. Goes anywhere.

List looks decent now. Carnage... kind of lost his homes after the tacticard changes. There might be something for him one day, but right now he's really easy to deal with especially with a lot more energy attacks and mystic attacks around now.

For Red Skulls box, the only cards worth taking are Inevitable Betrayal, Victory Assured (depends), and possibly world domination. Though that will depend heavily on the crisis cards at play. Sleeper Agent can also be good if you take someone with a nasty easy to get off throw like Hulk (throws don't count as attacks and prevent the opponent from using tacticards to negate it), but that requires some big brain planning to make work right. Mal might be a good candidate for it though. Unsure.

Nice for the tips, I went down the list of models I have and thought you want Sin for the Two more shall rise rule.
Hawkeye I threw in for the conditions, thought he might be nice.
Blade equally I thought with stucker you might try to mass all kind of conditions and with the rest you might give out bleed to everyone.
Sinister I would have put in due to how easy you can heal with strucker leadership and how I can easily put another model on the field.

I trust you so how is this?
              Characters (10):
              Arnim Zola (3)
              *Baron Strucker (3)
*Red Skull, Master of Hydra (5)
              Baron Zemo (3)
              Bob, Agent of Hydra (2)
              Scarlet Witch (5)
              Lizard (3)
              Venom (4)
              Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew) (4)
              *Malekith the Accursed (7)

Malekith I have never tried before actually I only ever used Scarlet Witch, Lizard, Venom and Baron Zemo.
Is he worth it and fun? Should I throw in my psycho boi Carnage?
Is "Two more should rise" a meme?

Final thought I'll say on this list unless you need more feedback, is to try and think of a general strategy, how you respond and who you use against other teams and tactics, and of course who and what you enjoy playing.

can fuck off. That's not an argument that MCP models are good value, it's just an observation.
I don't care why it is expensive - the models cost roughly 40% that I think they are worth, so I think they are too expensive.

            I fully agree.
Though again GW foes the same shit, all their single sets are 30 too.
Personally I tell people to use STL offering my machine to print.
General rule is that I still would ask them to atleast buy a box for wvery 6 character I print but it is really their choice

Yeah but GW troops come in £5 - £10. The most I’m used to playing for single generic guys is Infinity, where they go maybe £9 - £14. Marvel is basically double or triple the price of that in the UK. Generally the posing is great, but sculpt quality is the same at best.

There are a lot of sculpts that I literaly cannot tell apart without the paint.
                And frankly, with the paint.
Some part of that is just capeshit problems, and I doubt there's a way around that.

Yeah I might stopped playing gw and just looked at the single figures at my store.
I do have to say that they are a fun to paint, but you can basically print them yourself if you have a machine.

Even when I compare MCP to Batman the batman are slightly cheaper (but smaller).
                This Nightwing is 21.
Seems to be an industry wide problem with characters.

What really hurts MCP reputation is that it is solely characters.
That means they never have articles for cheap.
Batman has Henchman and such in 2 packs for 24 or even if they are noname henchmans like riddlers movie henchman 26 for 3 models.

Prices are to taste for your local store, I would always say support your local venue to play, if there is none just buy cheapest/STL the shit out of it.

I can post size comparison between Infinity, MCP, Knight Models and Malifaux later.

Models are generally good. Some fiddly bits like Scarlet Witch's magic but generally easy to put together and they look great. They wouldn't be worth the price tag for the model alone though.
The game is one of the best skirmish games I've ever played though. The rules are simple enough whilst giving a lot of tactical choice and making every character feel unique. The power generation combined with a healthy/dazed system makes for a surprisingly deep game with an excellent comeback mechanic which reduces the impact of WAAC alpha strikes, the low model count and means that all of your characters get to do at least something worthwhile.

Never played and call it shit.
My warhammer, warmachine and infinity friends say the same and they never think to play it.
Dunno why, it has in my opinion the most thematic abilities and is very fun for quick tournament.
Mind I only play draft heroclix.

I like it but the cost is a bit much.
Played Heroclix, Knightsmodel game and this in the genre.
This is suprisingly the most competitive and the most build heavy.
You can do a lot of planning to it which I find to be a bit hard to do show in demo.
Units and Affliation is fun but you do need to be a bit bright eyes and unjaded to have fun.
A jaded person will just see any character as its ability

      Qualitywise it can range.
Some models look really cool (Sentinel, Blade), others look like absolute crap (Winter Soldier, Venom).

Emma Frost sadly look like crap but I use STL alfernative models to cover that.

There was also a picture on vulture on a new tactics card and he is also on the box art of the new ultimate encounter.

Knights Models had once Marvel figures. Propably lost license because they had DC characters?

I believe they were unwilling to pay for the license.
Knight model is not the best planned company and I can totally believe they were not supporting it well enough for marvel.
They released 6 packs in total I believe.
I do have a couple of more in my hobby room, but generally they are smaller.
Knightmodels has a good game in Batman, Harry Potter on life support dur to license and the ginger step-child of superheroes.
I will talk about the superheroes system below.
In my opinion Knight Models super system is closer to the superheros then MCP but less balanced, and a lot more cluncky to play.
              So my ratings go:
              >Soul
Knight Models > Heroclix > MCP
              >Strange and fun mechanics
              >Heroclix > Knight models > MCP
              >Balanced
              MCP >>> the rest
              >Hobby
MCP > Knight Model > Heroclix
Generally Heroclix is stupid, fun and janky.
              Knight model is characterful.
MCP looks nice, plays easy and fast.

              >finally Jango Fett mini
              >It's in some shitty retard scale and not in Legion

Atleast they have now Ventriss in Legion.

Combination factors I wager. Didn't want systems to be cross compatible with DC as well as low sales/ not enough push probably. Doesn't help that knight sonetines can't figure out how to put product in boxes either.

Yeah the game is very different. Except throwing as an option, stats change with damages and multiple defense types they don't really share much.

MCP is very much a normal skirmish game, you have a number of models, each activation you choose a model and take two action with them.
If you have energy which you get by taking damage or dealing damage you can do some fancy shit.
Tactics card, no factions, movement via those weird sliders and flexible mission are the unique features.

Knight Models game is more unique as a game.
At the start of your round each character get power to their stats.
Hal Jordan has 8 power to move and use skills.
If he spent power he can move, he can attack and use his ability.
As a green lantern he can choose to attack physically or via energy. With power he might increase the power of the attack or use his power to trigger ability.
The ability is not on Heroclix level of thematic but quite cool, green lantern can change types, use his willpower and such.
The original Rogue was able to straight up steal any passive ability in the game.
Unlike MCP everyone was able to throw in the game.
So this free floating power, and wide variety of powers of the characters are the unique features.

The batman mini game is great. The other justice league game they had was interesting in theory, but seemed pretty bad in practice. Watched a video on it and other defunct or obscure wargames a while ago.

Sounds as Knight models is more character driven. While Marvel is about action, just like Heroclix?

                Anonymous

Heroclix is very open to introduce new mechanics therefore I would call them mre character driven but chaotic in a sense.
You can easily introduce some object the green lantern can summon as you don't really have to care about long term effects.
You can play around a lot as a developer especially as Heroclix mainly plays seasonwise like card game.
So Quicksilver leaving behind after images after each move, and having the ability to attack from them? Perfectly fine.

Weird that DC works! I dont think they have different teams. It seems that DC fans twnd to knight models and Marvel fans to Heroclix. Because when i look at the range of Heroclix series they have alot of Marvel and now X-series series.

I do believe that MCP is going strong.
DC systems both Batman Miniatures and DC really suffer from Knights model reputation.
Around 4 years ago it was going great, Batman was popular but then they released a new edition.
The Dc system never really got support and it is just kinda ignored.

                >Every dude that tells you it's overpriced hasn't bought a model in his life.
                Retard.

To finish out some pictures of a mate who buys everything

Poor quality control and customer service. Rules changing as often as they do is both a blessing and a curse. For the batman game, the bat and joker wank is real, but expected.

                Anonymous

I would say from 2011-2017 horrendous quality support.
They really screwed up and their (free) rulebook was badly formatted.
Add to this a couple of weird design choices like Magic and Speed Force and really, really weird tournament support and communication to their customer.
Also, they put out the Dark Knight rises box in 2018 and their tie-in with Suicide Squad about 2 years after the movie.
The wank was okay, there was really a shitload of Batman and Jokers but lots of side characters.

I believe 2018-2019 they put their new edition, which put people off as they said that they have eternal (old) and the normal range.
With the new releases they switched over from a very free system to a bit more focused on, changed how points are gained to a mission deck system, and lastly only put out Batman and Joker decks.
It took around 2 full years for the last of the original crew (Freeze) to get their plot deck.
Nowadays they do a lot of side characters, obscure characters, fun versions of everyone, and just generally improved the game.
Hell, the rulebook is actually good now. But by this point, everyone left the game.

Also, they announced their marvel game putting out 3 boxes in 2016. Avengers, Guardians, and X-men.
They put reasonably fast a couple of characters out (Groot, Hulk, Gambit).
Put out their first evil crew around 6 months later followed by their second evil crew (dark avengers and Brotherhood).
After that basically nothing for a year until they announce their batman system for street level Spider-man.
Putting out some Doc Ock spider-man and Kobold characters followed by some DC Character which use the same system as their marvel superhero system. Around 4 months later they kill their marvel system basically over night, removing all models from the store. They were even leaked profiles a weak earlier of Doom, and a bunch of characters.
So this war around 2018 I want to say and a year later MCP releases.

Lastly here are some model comparison.

But I want to direct your attention to this.
Generally Kngiht Models is spanish so they kinda do their spanish shit like bad support, weird rules and every fucking females having the same pose.

Superhero stuff is generally nice to paint I would say.
Lots of bright colour, clear distinction and a good company does really dynamic poses.

But I am more of a gamer then a painter so dunno if it s okay with you.

            Didn't you hear?
After Cyclops died to Inhumans Cancer and became X-Hitler they all moved to their new planet/orgy center and started fucking and killing themselves (this part actually not a joke).
So everyone is now immortal and can come back, the only solution Emma Frost saw so that Cyclops don't fucks only his best buddy while Jean grey watches is to become a better wolverine.
Sadly she is too tall for Cyclops.
So she uses her new body to sling drugs from the country of Krakoa to fund their hedonistic lifestyle (again this shit is canon).

What's the bare minimum number of minis needed to play a game? I love spider man villains but I have no clue how to figure out how many minis I need to paint before I can show up to an lgs

Spider-foes (Spiderman's rogues gallery) are all 3 to 4 threat and games go between 15 to 20 threat now. However, I'm certain that any decent lgs would be cool with you practicing at 17 threat. To do so I would recommend the following boxes:
              >Green goblin (4 threat leader with the affiliation bonus).
              >Mysterio and Carnage (3 and 4 threat)
              >Kraven and Lizard (both 3 threats)
That gets you to 17 comfortably and is actually a great team. Ignore the haters, Mysterio and Carnage put in work if played right. My roster is currently:
              >Gobo, Doc Ock, Venom, Mysterio, Carnage, Kraven, Lizard, Sabretooth, Winter Soldier, Bullseye

Played Heroclix, Knightsmodel game and this in the genre.
This is suprisingly the most competitive and the most build heavy.

Currently my favorite skirmish game despite me not really giving a damn about capeshit. The rules and gameplay are just that solid imo. Really damn fun to play and it's worth noting that you only ever need 10 total models to play anyway and won't ever have to buy duplicates of the same kit. Assembly for older kits is pretty bad in some cases, but newer ones are far better. Sculpts are usually really nice too. The studio also put out updated rules for the crisis cards (objectives for the game) for free online you can print, hit will also sell them at a later date. Last year they rebalance a lot of characters (nerfs and buffs) and tacticards too again posting them up for free and also selling them as a pack. Overall I really enjoy the game and the studio are pretty customer driven it seems. I'd recommend checking it out and at least trying a game or two.

You can always get 3d prints and just use mcpdb.com too.

I agree but /tg/ is kinda dead in that respect.
      So what are you fielding?
I quite liked Asgard, and Captain America Avengers due to how much power you can use and the option.
      Going into a new affliation:
Should I try Winter Guard, Cabal, Hydra, Cabal, Brotherhood, Sentinel or Weapon X?
What feels free and has lots of options?

I tend to play criminal syndicate since I like defensive and control play with an objective focus and they have two leaders that can really change up how they play. Amg keep releasing good characters for them though, so it's hard just saying no and sticking with my roster. They have so many characters that work well with them in and out if affiliation and with the crisis updates, their stocks have only gone up. Great affiliation imo.

I've been messing with hydra a lot recently however especially with the crisis updates. Strucker has a really interesting leadership, but I don't find it coming into play often enough to bother with a lot. Redskull though is just a really damn good kit and does a lot of stuff I like, but he'll still have a 2 dice save on one defense so he'll drop quick against a well mixed attack team. They've also got some pretty nice tactics and spider-woman looks godly for them. She and pyro look to help Strucker a lot so I may try him again.
If you're looking for something with tons of options, cabals roster is exceptionally deep and redskull hands out power like candy.

          Probably going to run Hydra.
          How is this?
          Characters (10):
          Threat: 35
          Arnim Zola (3)
          *Baron Strucker (3)
*Red Skull, Master of Hydra (5)
          *Sin (3)
          Baron Zemo (3)
          Bob, Agent of Hydra (2)
          *Blade (4)
          Scarlet Witch (5)
          Mister Sinister (4)
          Hawkeye (3)

No clue about the tactics, and crisis yet but I will probably run Two more should rise and the High Council and from Sinister Cloning labs
Baron Strucker would be my first Leader

            Anonymous

Blade is pretty bad out of his own affiliation, Hawkeye is just a shittier Winter Soldier, and I have no idea what Sinister is doing there. Sin... just throw her in the bin. She's really fucking bad. Almost unplayable bad. She desperately needs a buff probably more than any other 3-threat. And without crossbones she's worse than deadweight.

I'll also highly recommend bringing either Lizard or X-23 so you can use Zolas experiment card on them. Failing that Strucker is a good target too. The new Spider-Woman will also be affiliated and I'll strongly recommend her too. Venom and Sabretooth are also good picks since they can attack and inflict status conditions on your opponents turn with their retaliation type powers letting them attack. Great for Strucker hydra.

Nice for the tips, I went down the list of models I have and thought you want Sin for the Two more shall rise rule.
Hawkeye I threw in for the conditions, thought he might be nice.
Blade equally I thought with stucker you might try to mass all kind of conditions and with the rest you might give out bleed to everyone.
Sinister I would have put in due to how easy you can heal with strucker leadership and how I can easily put another model on the field.

I trust you so how is this?
              Characters (10):
              Arnim Zola (3)
              *Baron Strucker (3)
*Red Skull, Master of Hydra (5)
              Baron Zemo (3)
              Bob, Agent of Hydra (2)
              Scarlet Witch (5)
              Lizard (3)
              Venom (4)
              Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew) (4)
              *Malekith the Accursed (7)

Malekith I have never tried before actually I only ever used Scarlet Witch, Lizard, Venom and Baron Zemo.
Is he worth it and fun? Should I throw in my psycho boi Carnage?
Is "Two more should rise" a meme?

                Anonymous

Unsure.

        https://www.atomicmassgames.com/rules

        >Basic rules
Both player chooses a mission and all mission has a point value. One of the point value is choosen.
You then build a list, from your choosen 10.
        >Game
It is alternative activaction, everyone gets 1 power and go.
When you activate you can do two action, move, attack with one of your ability, secure etc.
Attack usually generate power or cost energy.
Your usual abilities like Beta Ray "Immeasurable stenght" cost power (3) but no action.
Each attack has a type and each characzer has different defense, beta ray is weak to mental.
Each damage taken gives you a power.
After they take enough damage they flip their card, and can't be killed this round. Another flips kills.

Additionally you can play tactics card things like thor hitting america shield to do a ranged attack, wolverine being thrown by colossus etc.

        That Blob sculpt is great.

        [...]
I did manage to find something like this and honestly, most of the characters I would be really excited to play aren't around yet. But that's OK. I also came across this sculpt which is fantastic.

Malekith is a beast, dunno what would work with him though.
Just throw in Malekith, Armin Zola, Modok and Blob.

I do like how throwing stuff deals set damage based on its size, isn't an attack, and really encourages environment interaction. Makes strong characters like Hulk very dangerous because they can chunk two big items, then attack K.O.ing a lot of opponents in one turn.

Always been an X-Man fag so have been tempted by the X-Men/Weapon-X in this. Is X-Force in the game?

You can field all models with all models (so Captain America and Red Skull is okay) but you very often play one theme (so 51% your list is X-Force, X-Men etc..).
Affliationwise there are 6 X-Men related affliation.
X-Men, X-Force, Weapon-X, Brotherhood of (Evil) Mutants, Sentinels and Hellfire Club.

X-Force is led by Cabal and has the following in factions:
      Cabal
      Deadpool
      Domino
      Wolverine
      X-23
      Honeybadger
      Sabertooth
      Colossus
      Maybe Psylocke next month

So generally you will have 3-4 models of your affliation and then a couple of additional to taste.
Rogue and Scarlet witch I like to throw in as I like the characters.

I guess thematically my ideal squad would be Remender X-Force so including Psylocke, Archangel and Fantomex who maybe aren’t characters yet? Or original Baron Zemo Thunderbolts with Zemo, Atlas, Songbird, Moonstone etc.

Is there a way I can find out who all has rules and models yet? My ideal is basically a somewhat functional squad of characters I think are cool.

      Same reason I don't buy paper stand-ins.
Its more fun to move miniatures.

Ah I went off a online store in germany.
Fantasy Welt and took all prices from them.
Prices are to taste for your local store, I would always say support your local venue to play, if there is none just buy cheapest/STL the shit out of it.

I can post size comparison between Infinity, MCP, Knight Models and Malifaux later.
Are the Usariadna the same size or did they shift the size?

Here are the miniatures I found on my table instead of the hobby space.
Old Ariadna (Caledonian and Usa) with blob, red skull and Pyro

For a demo game (and what you basically get told in the core box) you usually play a set-mission with 17 pts.
For a demo game I would play a mission of 17 pts, and no tactics cards.
Most of the models are 3 or 4 cost, so usually you have around 4-6 on the field for such a mission.

For a real game you take a roster of 10 models in your roster, 3 crisis cards (mission) and 5 tactics card.

Barest minimum possible is a 14 point mission with 2 models, hell you can field 16 points with 2 models.
Reasonably I would say 5 models.

It's a very good, casual game that can be turned into a somewhat competitive thing.
Every dude that tells you it's overpriced hasn't bought a model in his life.
You need 10 models, but can get away with 4-5 if you're playing casually, even less depending on the faction. That's usually 2-3 boxes (let's say 4) that cost the same (if not less) than GW products. Imagine having a 2000 point army with 2-3 boxes. Imposible, right? Right

Models are nice, depends on how old they are. The ones that come in the core set are good enough, some of the newer ones are very good, I'd say better designed than GW.

Gameplay wise it works like malifaux, where you got a few abilities and stuff that triggers depending on the dices. And they're trying to balance it.

It's not a perfect game, but it's good enough to spend like 100$ and play it in between some other games

New panel to play revealing a literal who:
    https://www.atomicmassgames.com/transmissions/from-panel-to-play-ulik

Actually seems solid. Plop him on a secure and bully people off it and you can have him charge to another point and bully someone off that too. Seems to be a decent brawler/ control piece for objective focused lists.

He has 3 power for short move, range 2 place on a medium base, then an attack. It's also not limited to once per turn. That's absurd action efficiency.
