the sidequests and textures could have been better, I know the latter is much better on PS5, but still pretty poor.

How is it stupid ? Instead of making interesting sidequests, most of them are just fetch this, kill that, with barebones storylines

True, but also not true. Character models are 10/10, enemies, bosses included. Environments go from 5/10 to 10/10. the inconsistency in quality hurts the art direction of the game.

They are not moron. The grand majority of "sidequests" are forced and won't be able to proceed if you don't do them.
I had a lot of fun with this video game and I liked the story changed.
Aerial combat was ass though in base game. Fixed in Yuffie's DLC though but still I hope they will improve it for the rest of the characters in part 2.

It was all kino and you get to spend lots of time seeing the characters on screen and talking. Especially Tifa.

Slamming time travel into a setting without any mentions of it or technology allowing for such is a move done by hack writers. It's a plot a 12yo could come up with.
You need to get into theorycrafting youtube. Stop caring about the story being "good" or "bad" and watch people talk about the lore for hours and hours and hours.
Soon you won't actually care what is happening in the plot anymore and all that matters is what it adds to the lore.
For example Nero showing up in Remake is not good for the story, but it IS good for the lore and the theories.
Once you're a fan of FF7 theorycrafting literally everything that happens in the story, no matter what, is good - because it expands the lore. You can apply this to all the FF games and suddenly "bad writing" or "plotholes" simply disappear.
ff7 is already out, i played it over the summer. ff7r won't be "out" for another decade and on it's way it'll be swept this way and that with whatever the rest of the industry is doing like DLC or mobile battle royales. Tifa also doesn't call you a moron anymore.
It created a mentally ill ff7 og fanboy called jimbo (just look how pissed off he gets when someone say something bad about it) that got baited and switch so hard that now his life purpose is to make up remake fans in his head and pretend to be them, make this threads and seethe about people liking this game for eternity
As someone who never played the original, I do think it's a flaw to make it a reboot/sequel (seaboot? requel?) that requires knowledge of the original game + supplementary materials.
I had hoped to be able to jump on with this one, but instead my choices are either to try and drag myself through the original, watch a summary on youtube or something, or play this blind and be confused on a lot of shit that assumes you know what's going on.
When FFVII first came out the whole story was in the game.
With FFVIIR you need to play it, the DLC, the OG, Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, Advent Children, and some side novels just to get the "full" story, and it's still only 1/8th done.
Yeah, that's my issue. If it were just a straight retread of the original game but with the new gameplay (I loved the combat in the demo) then it'd be perfect. Frankly, I'm tempted to just go in and see how confused I get.
the remake will literally never end with nomura involved. kingdom hearts 3 was supposed to be the end, and wasn't. then there was a dlc to be the ending, and wasn't. then we get an ending that ties into a whole new spinoff series which is added to the pile of never ending branches of side stories, sequels, prequels that may not ever get made
when was the last time SE made an FF game with an actual ending? FF13-3?
