The islands themselves (aside pandaria) are supposed to be comparatively small, they're scaled up for clickability.

I haven't played WoW since Northren and I didn't really understand that meme of "art teams carrying the game" and taking a look at some of the newer expansions, frick those are some really nice looking zones. I'm shocked they were able to squeeze out that much art out of this old ass game. A shame about the writing and pozz though.

I think the lore going to pot was inevitable the moment the older/original writers left.

  11. 1 year ago

The lore of this game is just so fricking bad. It's very obviously written on the fly; there's no long-term plan whatsoever. No character development occurs. Each new expansion involves downright moronic retcons, so it'd be more accurate to call it "world deconstruction" than "worldbuilding".

Despite this, they don't even take advantage of the lack of continuity. Expansions go to boring and soulless areas. The same characters are recycled constantly. No interesting races or regional histories are created.

It's like they have the disadvantage of directionless storytelling, without utilising the creative freedom at all. How can it be so shit?? It constantly amazes me.

I skipped the last 4 expansion's and tried to get back in to WoW because Classic reminded me it CAN be good if you brute force it. There's no way to play through the last 4 expansion's but the game assumes you know everything that happened and then rushes you to the endgame.

I'm a WoW veteran from 2005 to 2014 and I found this incomprehensible. How in the frick do new players adapt to this?

      Anonymous

      >How in the frick do new players adapt to this?
They don't. WoW doesn't get new players anymore, they haven't in years. The only ones who still play it are eternally mazed broken bucks and literal trannies.

        Anonymous

        >literal trannies
Actually WoW (in particular Alliance) is more full of memespouting incels trying to fit in than almost any other online gaming community.
The trannies make the game, but trannies play XIV. Both games are played by genetic dead-ends, but for very different reasons.

Blizzard doesn't even want them to understand. The current leveling path for an actual brand new player is locked to Exile's Reach -> BfA -> Dragonflight. They literally only care about the current expansion's story and nothing else.

Ascension unironically brings more to the game than WoW expansions.
