The worst part about this is that they all have legitimately great designs. They're vibrant and distinct, and do a good job showing off their personalities and types. But you don't ever interact with them outside their gyms, and their fights are cheesed so easily with megas you get AFTER THE THIRD GYM that they're all forgettable. Megas should've been reserved for when you fight the legendaries, while every gym leader should've been given one. It's crazy how with like another 2 months XY would have been significantly better, and with another year they would have been HGSS tier. There's so much sovl packed into the game in little ways that haven't been seen since

True, they're fun gym leaders but the game doesn't do anything with them. The only ones I really remember are Viola because she's the first one, Clint because of how long the stretch is until Cyllage City (plus the cliffside ocean route is pretty cool), and Wulfric because he's the last one (piss easy fight though).
