Sometimes brand recovery is more important than money. It'll pay itself off in dividends when Cyberpunk Orion comes out and all has been forgiven. Same goes for No Man's Sky 2.

              >universally panned
It enjoys a positive rating on steam now. And its user rating only continues to go up. It's also still one of the most played games on steam.

As for CDPR's reputation, it recovered within a few months of CP2077's release, their stock climbed back up by the second quarter of FY2021, fully recovering from the hit it took from CP2077's bad PR at launch.

There's virtually no metric by which you can call this game unsuccessful. It is widely played, it made tons of money, it made CDPR richer as a company, and the game enjoys and 81% positive review rate on Steam (was only around 70% positive a year ago). Despite being a single player game with finite content it's still in Steam's top 100 most played games for the last 3 years, and currently with the release of the DLC, is sitting at number 6 on the list.

Its pretty good as of patch 1.5. The outrage should be over why it launched in such a state when it would have been goty if it launched like 1.3 (like actually being able to use some of the end game choice iconics)

Probably really good numbers for dlc. It's hard to get people to pick something back up that's old. That's why dlc is usually disproportionately expensive for the content. It's also why season passes exist, because a lot more people will buy a season pass during the launch hype than will actually return to the game to play the dlc when it finally comes out.

The DLC is short at about 10 hours long and Dogtown is just a portion of the overall city. These numbers are pretty good for something that likely did not have too much effort put into it compared to the base game. Let's just hope management actually takes the criticisms of the game and fixes them for the sequel.

Despite releasing as a total piece of shit, No Man's Sky was the perfect game to potentially build off of and actually deliver on its absurd promises. I do think that it deserves to at least have its reputation reconsidered. CP2077 on the other hand is just shit at its core. It's not a good RPG, and fixing it would require more than just a few updates. It basically requires a complete remake from the ground up. As always, it depends on how much they invested in making the game. In the case of FF16, they spent $200 million dollars creating the game but only sold 3 million copies, meaning they only earned $180 million dollars in sales. But we don't know how much they spent making this expansion, probably not that much compared to the base game.

Fromsoft inarguably has a teflon repuation. A video could release tomorrow of Miyazaki shitting into a toddler's mouth, and Dark Ring: Shadows Die Twice 2: Prepare to Die Edition would still sell six gorillion copies. Larian generally has a good reputation, and it's next game is going to sell well even though it is assuredly just going to be a sex simulator with RPG elements.

From a business standpoint, that is objectively one of the best reputations you can have. This is the dream for any company.

They completely lost the console audience (the sales numbers includes console buyers who essentially got scammed but learned their lesson, hence the extremely low console sales for dlc), which is disastrous for a AAA dev with such high development costs.

This isn't a schizo post either, they say this in their financial reports. Also you can be certain every polack owns 5 copies of the game. Their Cyberpunk sales doesn't remove all the refunds either, it's not a lie but it isn't accurate to how many copies they actually sold through and kept.

The issue is that giant ambitious games require giant ambitious sales figures. And the best way to achieve this is to appeal to as many people as possible. Hopefully AI will fix this by decreasing the amount of dev muscle required to make a game with a massive scope.

the quest associated with this gun is kinda funny

Why don't moronic game studios publish their revenue like movies? No one cares about how many copies were sold, that means nothing.

These are not as intimidating as they look. First of all they are a big target and easy hit, specially with wrist mounted rocket combos.

This is great. I thought Idris Elba and the Goldman Sachs-approved save-the-she/her-president would get the sequel cancelled. Their great artists prevented a disaster.

The patch is good but kinda dumb they made it so you can reset attributes once while you can freely reallocate perk points. Just make me pay for a respec or something that scales up in cost if you want to make players commit.

All I see is CDPR mocking me because we both know they released a broken game that did not delivered on any of the interesting things they promised and they got away with it and made a lot of money and are pretty smug about it too. I don't know how to cope.

anyone think the NUSA/myers would be to one to actually just quietly cripple you in fear that you'd retaliate?

      Anonymous

I don't think so, they could have easily put some brain control chip or killswitch on V or something instead of crippling them.
FIA would probably kill to permanently recruit V as a federal agent.

      Anonymous

Nah. Cyberpunk in general is moving in the direction of governments starting to regain control from the corporations. People like V are good assets.
It's been largely implied by Mike that Orion is going to be set on Mars or the Moon in the aftermath of a NUSA war on corporations.
Plus V is the 2077 version of Morgan Blackhand, and Morgan was basically a US agent anyways through Militech.

        >ooooh madam president! ill save the NUSA
That's literally only like the opening crawl of the expansion. You spend three times the amount of time working with Madam President's subordinates who paint her as a power hungry tyrant who is willing, able, and inevitably does break international law because she's basically psychotically jealous of living in her predecessor's shadow.
