This may seem like a cope, but over aggresive cops kinds of fits a Cyberpunk world.
There's even an in-game advertisement about how you should be making sure to tip your police officer if you get tipped over.
There's another news segment that talks about a law being passed that allows cops to count shooting at a limb as a warning shot.
Normally I would agree with you but having the cops functionally just act like gang members is pretty accurate for the setting.
The cops are corrupt but also lazy. This can be seen in them ignoring pretty much everyone else outside of scripted events except the player. Its lame in its current iteration as its immersion breaking.
The problem is I get wanted for doing NCPD jobs and it's so stupid.
They wanted the kick back for those jobs. They're pissed at you for taking their jobs, literally. Most of those activities reward credits and they want them.
Also you're showing up at those places because you're hijacking the NCPD dispatcher calls. Technically they would have no idea that you weren't just another gangbanger.

I assume there's some weird hitbox around cops or something. If you go to a NCPD event and there's cost and you shoot near them, they may hit you with a star. So even if you don't hit them at all, you may end up wanted.
But I've had instances where I just go and shoot all the people the cops are shooting at, and I get no wanted stars.
Knowing this game, it could also just be bugged.

Not for me. There's that one little shootout between Tygers and Cops that if you help them they aggro, but NCPD jobs always let me off the hook if im inside the job zones. Even with cops right outside the shootout.

yeah the "wanted level" system in this and other games is fine for immersion and all, but frankly in a lot of games where your main gameplay is doing illegal shit it loses novelty very quickly
like consider some TES or modern fallout game; there's some mechanics for stealin shit or murdering people quietly, and usually overworld/interior/etc... cells are positioned in such a way that you don't get accidental spillovers, so unless you willfully decide to go nuts in a public area, you're not going to suddenly be fighting all the town guard (friendly fire incidents during rare scripted sections notwithstanding)
in cyberpunk or any GTA game, the first few times you're fighting off helicopters and tanks and waves of SWAT officers, it's fun, sure, but dozens of hours into the playthrough, you're going to be avoiding wanted stars because it's more of an inconvenience than anything else

You are wrong. You had a stray bullet hit someone. If you blow up a tank and it hits a cop or civilian, it will agro them on you.
I joined a shootout and used only single target quick hacks and the cops still aggro'd me.
No, it was literally my very first shot and I did not hit anyone else.
It used to work that you where allowed to shoot people in specific invisible zones. Those usually spawned around gangs and missions, but are sometimes so small that you shooting anyone from a bit back takes you outside the zone that allows shooting without the cops getting after you.

Because that is the main thrust of the complaints. A “bad” or “sad” ending can be written well, of course. Hell, Edgerunners is a good example of that for the most part. 2077’s endings (except DftR Temperance I guess?) just suck, and PL’s makes it even more obvious. These criticisms are handwaived by “oh you just want a happy sunshine ending!! Cyberpunk has ALWAYS been like this okay?????” It’s tiring.

When people say that and use the word "Cyberpunk" they mean the setting specifically, not the genre. Pondsmith's books are pretty clear about it not being a setting for happy endings.

Potentially unpopular opinion around here, but I think Rebecca is one of the biggest problems with Edgerunners. She, along with Maine, are the two characters to provide David with exactly what he was looking for (respect and a place to belong) coming off of his lowest point. Unlike Maine, however, Rebecca is totally sidelined so the writers can railroad the Lucy and David pairing and milk out their "tragic" ending. Rebecca should have been cut or drastically changed from the script or the script rewritten to actually account for her being there.
My theory is that Rebecca is a holdover from a direction Trigger wanted to go. CDPR, having chief control over the writing room, vetoed them. Eventually she was added back in as a compromise due to needing bodies in the cast by the halfway point, but her characterization and its effect weren't taken into consideration because the ending was already set in stone by CDPR guys who wouldn't alter it.

If CD Proj did provide substance for Trigger to use in their show, I'm mad they didn't just focus on the design elements and didn't seek help from an experienced developer with designing the game engine and whatnot.
They should have talked to Rockstar first fricking thing for how they implemented GTA.
In fact, I wish Rockstar had joined them because GTA, though completely bugless, generally has run super well from every GTA since III, when they were building the fricking engine.
Why they bothered with the Witcher engine is beyond me. They had money, they could have negotiated with Rockstar easily.
Then again, the old GTAs did crash badly on the PC... so that may be why. But the new ones run well and suit this style of game.
I don't think Unreal is a good option either. Unreal is poorly optimised from memory.

It's bizarre to me that no developer has ever tried to create a minimalist wanted system.
In every game the moment you do a no-no you're instantly hunted by the police (which knows your location at all times). As result, players just avoid engaging with illegal activities, so they aren't ever wanted. That's how you play GTA, Watch Dogs and Sleeping Dogs.
Since the players won't be seeing much of the wanted system anyway, how come no dev ever tried to make it minimalist?

They have, they just patented it so other developers couldn't leverage it.
Because it's easier to just copy gta again for the thousandth time and the cattle won't complain.
What games need for wanted systems to work is permadeath.
If I have infinite lives I won't ever surrender to the police because that usually has hefty costs (money, weapons). It is easier to fight the police and if I die whatever, rollback the save and keep going.
If it's permadeath I will surrender 9 out of 10 times because the risk of fighting the police isn't worth it.
There you go, now you can design a police that isn't a crazy killing machine since you won't expect most players to be violent against them.

How are grenades/tech? My first playthrough was mostly knives, occasionally using a katana, so this time I wanted to try something different, but also not just your usual standard weapons.
Grenade support is good, Tech I have not tried but at a glance the tree looks very anemic. 15 Tech before you can even take a single perk related to tech weapons
Well the PL bonus skill that allows you to charge the arm cannon is fricking busted as all hell. Just holding it a second longer means you shoot 5 rockets instead of 1 and you can get an extra charge.
So I basically just roll up to grouped up enemies, shoot 10 rockets out of my arm and walk away.
