World of Light is pretty shitty, yeah. I really wish Sakurai would just give in and put Adventure mode back in the fricking series. It doesn't have to be SSE, Melee Adventure mode is more than enough for me. It's insane that they just rebranded Event mode and made it Ultimate's big main mode.
>It's insane that they just rebranded Event mode and made it Ultimate's big main mode.
And didn't even capture what made it good. Event mode could be little stories rather than just "FIGHT PIKACHU WITH POKE BALLS" when they tried. Now it's just "PRETEND THIS IS THE CHARACTER YOU ACTUALLY WANTED"
A lot of the later events in Melee were like that, especially that one and Pikachu & Pichu. You either hope they SD each other or fall off the stage by accident.

After watching speedruns of Melee events, I learned that there’s some events you can cheese even as a casual player, because the AI can be an idiot, this one included. The strat is literally roll to the far left, face inwards, and keep down smashing, the 3 Metal Samuses get launched behind you and can’t get back on. Another one is Pokémon Battle (only Pokéball summons can hurt Pikachu), just choose Fox, spam laser, and Pikachu breaks shield, you’ll get the upper hand easily.
Yeah but Smash's budget (a silly thing to consider given how much it sells) doesn't actually allow for that much in the way of cutscenes.
The Smash team itself lacks a CGI team so they always outsource them. But the result is that they have to pick-and-choose where they spend their CG budget.
Which is why Smash Ultimate had lots of CG trailers. My guess is Sakurai figured that if the cutscenes were going to make their way online anyways, might as well just make them part of the advertising from the get-go
That's the other thing people don't get: Smash or Mario Kart being popular doesn't mean Nintendo blows up their budget to infinite dollars. Nintendo stays profitable by setting modest but stable budgets, even on super-popular series or projects.
So when you see Smash Bros, don't assume that their resistance to things like story modes with lots of cutscenes is just Sakurai being obstinate (though that's certainly part of it), it's also likely just a matter of how they spend money in general That being said, I would have preferred Smash Run to World of Light but Smash Ultimate was very breadth > depth in content
I would be fine with in-engine scenes that are brief like in Melee, though not as short
Melee did have cutscenes, like The Star Fox team having lines before the second SG fight and short intros like Giant Kirby, Metal Mario Bros and Giga Bowser
>That's the other thing people don't get: Smash or Mario Kart being popular doesn't mean Nintendo blows up their budget to infinite dollars
Citation needed for Smash Ultimate? As far as I understood it BotW was the most expensive Nintendo game at the time and cost over a 100 million dollars to make, I wouldn't be surprised if Ultimate approached those numbers.
Ultimate and Smash in general rarely ever gets close to AAA. Maybe when you factor in the cost of DLC, but vanilla Smash games are rarely super expensive and I wouldn't be surprised if they actually pared back on it, once you account for inflation
https://www.eventhubs.com/news/2019/aug/28/masahiro-sakurais-not-much-budget-joke-had-truth-it-during-hero-reveal-stream-super-smash-bros-ultimate/
We don't have any hard numbers but Sakurai himself has said that Smash doesn't really get a huge budget. It's why the DLC character showcases are so, well, barebones. Nintendo is not giving them the budget to put together polished showcases, and that general monetary modesty extends to the game itself.

probably that its mostly just a fairly short SSE style cutscene then a bunch of in game footage and sakurai talking about the character while playing as them in a small room.
>That's the other thing people don't get: Smash or Mario Kart being popular doesn't mean Nintendo blows up their budget to infinite dollars
Every-fricking-one knows how much of a fricking cheapskate Nintendo's management is, nothing new, their MO is cost cutting anything they can
I'm 90% sure that was just a bullshit excuse, just like the localizer's "Minecraft music is too calm" covering for painfully obvious legal troubles. The actual reason we didn't get another mode like TSsE is that it's an insane amount of work that increases with every new character. The roster has more than doubled since Brawl.
>The actual reason we didn't get another mode like TSsE is that it's an insane amount of work that increases with every new character.
This. You can even see this in the few cutscenes we do have. Characters like Cloud, Incineroar, Isabelle and Ridley for example are noticeable absent during all the cutscenes. There was no way they gonna assed to animated 69 characters so they just skimped on the the cutscenes in general.
I wish they had a proper classic mode instead of making arcade mode and claiming it to be classic mode. Sometimes I just want to fight the same enemies and kill master hand at the end, man.
Smash Tour sucked but Master and Crazy Orders were great. Smash Ultimate doesn't have a single mode you can say was good or played more than 1 time to completion then never again.
Only the first time. It's not like you can play it again with a different character. There's no replay value. They should have just made a mode like the 3DS Classic mode and called it Arcade mode.
[...]
NTA, but Ultimate's classic mode is repetitive as shit. What's the point of the unique routes is 75% of the time is going to end against Master & Crazy hand? Is a waste of time honestly.
I mean you could say that for nearly every smash bros single player mode, from all star to classic to adventure mode, especially in melee/brawl.
>Smash Ultimate doesn't have a single mode you can say was good
It has one of the best Classic modes.
NTA, but Ultimate's classic mode is repetitive as shit. What's the point of the unique routes is 75% of the time is going to end against Master & Crazy hand? Is a waste of time honestly.
>What's the point of the unique routes is 75% of the time is going to end against Master & Crazy hand?
They haven't been this fun to fight since Melee.
a lot of the classic routes are pretty shit too
for every actually neat route like ryu's you have an extremely lame one like k rool and wario's just being "fight a bunch of the heavy guys"
wario's could have easily been a bunch of coin battles but of course they cut those out of the game like so many other things
>Diddy is trying to find out if he could be a sidekick to anyone besides DK >Red/Leaf is battling all of the Pokemon to be the best in Smash >Banjo-Kazooie are fighting the duos of Nintendo games
Some of the "plots" are neat.
>perfect >Pokemon and Mother had unique bosses they could have recycled >plus there was one boss they could have used for all the pairs >everyone gets the same race to the finish >no other minigame
>everyone gets the same race to the finish
This shit drove me nuts. You've got this nice modular block system for the mode and use it for 1 (one) stage? Total bullshit.
Funny you say that, Ultimate literally felt like it had no single mode. World of Light was nothing but events. Compare this to other Smash games. They had more to them and Ultimate felt completely barebones. They were so focus on the competitive side, the game felt boring and nothing to do after completing it unless you're a sweaty tryhard and just go online to lose to lag.
How so? I had more playtime on Smash 3ds than Ultimate and that's mainly due to Smash Run, a game mode that actually encourage you to play in anyway, especially with custom moves. If you mean the Wii U version, then I'll agree.
I'm talking the Wii U version. Playing Smash brothers with a circle pad and a 2-inch screen ain't happening. I tried it before and absolutely loathed it.
[...]
Being better than Smash Tour is not an accomplishment, nor a high bar to reach.
Smash Tour sucked but Master and Crazy Orders were great. Smash Ultimate doesn't have a single mode you can say was good or played more than 1 time to completion then never again.
Idk. I enjoyed Smash Tour. It was a really fun pace breaker with friends.
Why do people hate it so much?
The idea of a Smash board game isn't inherently a terrible idea but it would be better if more thought was put into designing it and it wasn't thrown together.
>2014 >Sakurai shows off Smash Run >Looks pretty fun, all kinds of enemies from the series to fight, even Kremlings came back and M1 of all things got the Devil Car >Wii U version could have the same mode or even a cooler mode >LOL NOPE, here's Mario Party with even more bullshit
Pic related was also making the rounds before they showed off the Wii U version. Shit like this made people hate Sakurai, not because it wasn't real, but because Smash Tour was the main Wii U mode alongside the actual base roster.
In fairness to Sakurai, he's actually right in not wanting to turn smash into a generic fighting game, he's just completely moronic and doesn't know what makes party modes in fighting games fun, because World of Light, Smash tour, and all the other singleplayer modes that have been since Subspace Emissary were all boring even to kids
The street fighter world tour, some boss fights and the dracula's castle section were the best parts, I wish the entire mode was like that instead of filler battles, obnoxious gimmicks and half assed mechanics.
>all that fricking health galleem and dharkon has >spend like an fighting a towel and lightbulb or an extenstion cord and an eyeball
like atleast give them a cool design but this was the moment Sakurai had a jrpg fetish with WoL being obvious about this to begin with
classic mode too has this monotony problem >add new bosses and personalized classic routes >like 50 Master Hand/Crazy Hand final bosses anyways >literally EVERYONE has that boring sidescroller course
>literally EVERYONE has that boring sidescroller course
me and a friend binged classic mode when he got the game and that shit got old after the second time
We learned how to maximize the credits high score too. The pink bombs give you more points per word than anything else.
>Cat and Villager
You're not even fricking trying, Sakurai. WoL was just a big gallery of middle fingers to people who wanted in particular characters. The only ones that actually worked with the ones with Mii Costumes or Assists, but those were double middle fingers.
there's nothing from modern Kirby (anything past SS really) in the series, Sakurai hates everything in the series that he didn't make
9 months ago

I see Susie, the Mage Sisters, Magolor, and the Robobot armor as stickers so the RtDL+ games are technically accounted for (along with Sectonia's FLOWERED theme for Kirby stages).
I'd rather have Ashley just not been in the game than be an Assist again. I know I'm in the minority but I don't care. Seeing her and Bomberman pop up as goddamn items isn't the "OOOH SO AWESOME" shit Sakurai thinks it is. A costume is not "in the game" and being an item isn't "in the game." Hell, the only reason people were so happy about Cuphead and Sans (besides being literal children) is the headpiece made it look like the actual character.
Mike Jones and Startropics are one of the few Nintendo IPs that have zero representation across all of Smash.
Even Eternal Darkness has representation as a spirit, and Nintendo hasn't acknowledged that game since it was released. I mean, yeah they haven't acknowledged Startopics either, but Startopics was at least made by Nintendo, which makes it all the stranger.

thats weird since Star Tropics was featured in the NES Mini
Good. Keep her out so I don't have to listen to her dying grandma voice. The fact that this fricking game doesn't even have a voice toggle is an insult. Just change the language of the whole fricking game bro. This game has zero quality of life settings that would take barely a day to implement.
This is one take I completely agree with him on, in BOTW and TOTK she's a non-combatant who completely NEEDS Link for defense, and in AoC she commandeers the Sheikah Slate because she can't do shit on her own
>"In BotW, Zelda is more focused on research than fighting. So we went with a version of Zelda that is even LESS associated with fighting!"
I prefer her Ultimate design to BotW, so I'm fine with this, but holy shit that excuse was so stupid that they might as well have not even tried explaining it.

They could have picked one of the Champions, any one really and that would have been okay. New Zelda rep that isn't another Link or Zelda or Ganondorf? It could have made the first pass a hit.

It's more to do with his choice of Zelda being more closely associated with how she's fought in previous games than BOTW's Zelda. Which is to say it's still a slippery excuse for her with 75% of her moveset being based off of made-up magical abilities for her and the rest are Link's spells from OoT, but it's not more slippery an excuse than Zelda's original inclusion or Ganondorf being a super-heavyweight Captain Falcon clone.

To be fair they could've adapted the Champion Powers as stand-ins for the Goddess Spells. >Farore's Wind > Revali's Gale >Din's Fire > Urbosa's Fury >Nayru's Love > Daruk's Protection
But I'm glad they didn't. BotW Zelda is genuinely boring, and the only people who like her are people whose first Zelda was BotW (or TotK now).
Smash Run needed online (would've lagged immensely on the 3DS) and customization options, like being able to select CPU level and what the final round will be.
is funny how one twitter gay got the injun G&W animation removed whining like a b***h
yet shit like this was in the game and no one batted an eye
goes to show how these kind of gays really don't play vidya
it's because twitter Black folk and gays, or anyone that complains about games don't actually play games, like holy shit all of you should know better by now
To be fair, Donkey Kong is the only really super heavy with any focus on punching, and he was actually in Punch Out Wii. They could have used a giant Mac too, but maybe they thought that was too on the nose
they already used K Rool for King Hippo but he does make more sense with a bigger belly,I guess the next closest thing would be Ganondorf or Inceneroar but Inceneroar makes more sense for Super Macho Man who didn't bet a spirit battle actuallly
IIRC the black villager skins were added later in development. In 4 and early Ultimate trailers those alts were still white.
It's possible that event was made before then.
ENTER SANDMAN
This one makes sense since they're both bulky fighters and are both final bosses in Punch Out.
they could've used a Giant Little Mac since Balrog used Little Mac given that Sandman has a different hazard but I'm glad they went with Donkey Kong anyways
honestly, even if it meant the game being delayed for a long while, i would still take a proper story mode.
i know i might sound like people who say "gta 6 should have me enter every single building in the game" with no irony whatsoever, but, i mean, i think with just the right amount of time and such, a story mode with cutscenes that are on the same level as character trailers, along with maaaaybe some dialogue would be great.
it could be like a MUGEN game come to life. something like that... anyone remember MUGEN? shit was amazing.
This. It would have been a complete fricking waste especially if some sperg leaked aa majority of the cutscenes and spoilers flooded the internet. SSBU at this point has a bigger roster than MVC2 or even some DBZ games.
yeah, forgot to mention that. i had an idea where they could maybe pick three characters to be protagonists, and sort of "sideline" the other characters, but that idea doesn't really sound any better.
personalized classic mode was a step in the right direction, make it like pulp fiction where the story is all over the place, hell this was pretty much Kirby Super Star
it's only an issue with ultimate's gigantic roster, cut out most of the unnecessary characters and you could easily split them into groups with their own stories that intertwine at certain points. Sonic Heroes did it like that iirc.
>Finally completed my Spirit collection and this thread pops up
I fricking love World of Light bros. It was way more than it needed to be for a Smash singleplayer mode. Favorite Spirits? Skull Kid is fun with his Lifesteal mechanic.
>tfw Bandana Waddle Dee was my most wanted >he doesn't get in but he turns out to be a useful spirit you can get early
love this homie, the battering bonus plus a support item loadout spirit was a great combo that made WoL a breeze before getting a Legendary primary spirit
I just wanted an expanded Melee adventure mode.
I didn't fricking want a bloated campaign with autistic OC enemies that only justifies itself with cutscenes.
I didn't fricking want a nothingburger of a mode that tries to justify a lack of trophies.
I just wanted a fun beat em up mode with lotta Nintendo and guest locations, enemies and bosses. Why can't I actually go through Dracula's castle with Luigi? You suck Dragon Quest's wiener but I can't frick up some slimes as my homie Bowser?
this guy gets it >that mario sidescroller level with enemies you can bounce high off of >a zelda dungeon crawl >a metroid planet zebes escape >the starfox section had a cutscene with the pilots talking >an f-zero race to the finish >an ice climber ascent
Melee adventure had the best homage in level design
the personalized classic mode was a step in the right direction, just add adventure like levels to it and we're golden
>the personalized classic mode was a step in the right direction, just add adventure like levels to it and we're golden
Unironically this. Classic Mode in Ultimate is a fricking blast. If they added a unique platforming stage and break the targets stage to every route it'd be absolutely perfect.
You now remember that Sora Ltd actually did make tons of non-OC enemies for Smash Run on 3DS and never bothered to reuse them in Ultimate.
https://www.mariowiki.com/List_of_Smash_Run_enemies
Honestly I never had an issue with it. It's got a lot and you get through it fast so you are exposed swifly to all different music, stages and characters
Simple Light God Dark God trope we've seen all over. I found their boss fight fun but nothing to write home about. Theres a challenge to do their whole boss fight without getting KO'd and thats a fun challenge with Dorf or something.
>all that fricking health galleem and dharkon has >spend like an fighting a towel and lightbulb or an extenstion cord and an eyeball

>it's fricking nothing.jpg
The trailer/opening cutscene was kino, but then the game did absolutely nothing with them. Sakurai is still ass-blasted over the Subspace cutscenes being uploaded to Youtube, so he refuses to make in-game cutscenes. So you get disappointing single player modes and bosses because there's no sense of progression or story
To be fair it's not like tabbu did frick all outside of getting BTFO by Sonic
a lot of the classic routes are pretty shit too
for every actually neat route like ryu's you have an extremely lame one like k rool and wario's just being "fight a bunch of the heavy guys"
wario's could have easily been a bunch of coin battles but of course they cut those out of the game like so many other things

Granted, it was cool.
Can't agree with the rest. I remember how disappointed kid me was with TSSE. I got in thinking "Wow, can't wait to fight against the incredible pool of enemies and bosses from Nintendo games! The possibilities are endless!"
Instead we got 20% Nintendo enemies and 80% Original forgettable enemies bullshit.
I really enjoyed Subspace right up until the game made you run all the way through a second time to wake everybody up again. I still can't hear that guitar version of the Dark World theme without cringing.
I find collecting these spirits to be more fun than collecting Pokemon. I think its the Tism bros but I fricking loved seeing all these different characters have matches set up in ways thats supposed to represent fighting the Spirit in question. Impressive too with the shear amount of Spirits on display here.
I have all 1524 Spirits and I feel empty inside....
>have to complete 99% of the fricking awful WoL to only play him in one single event >can't even unlock him to play it for fun side gamemodes that aren't available online
its shit
To this day I don't know why Warframe technically got into Smash Bros.
Who the frick asked for this? I know it's a shitty sticker and I don't care why is this garbage in Smash? Who sucked off Sakurai for this?
>waa i don't want my cutscenes to leak
the last 2 zelda games have leaked early in their entirety, would sakurai just deep six the entire zelda franchise?
>severely lacking in new stages for the base games >fricking lock potentially great new stages behind bosses >Ganon's tower is here... for the boss fight >Marx's wasteland is here... for the boss fight >Ancestral Steppes is here... for the Rathalos fight
yet they did it for Dracula's Castle, the background is already here the least they can do is add battlefield or omega platforms
honestly one of the most overlooked bullshit that went unnoticed in the smash community
You're lucky, you got a presence in Smash in the first place.
He looks noticeably off. He's not even a remotely modern design, he's just taken from Super Star.
Fun fact: Every series that was in Smash 64 has had a stage featured in a later Smash game from a title that came out after Smash 64 except for Kirby >Mario: numerous >Yoshi: Woolly World >Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, DKC Returns >Zelda: numerous >Metroid: Prime, Other M >Star Fox: Assault >Pokemon: numerous >F-Zero: GX >Earthbound: Mother 3
just a completely cucked franchise
It's maddening how Sakurai tried to pull that for Great Cave Offensive, when >it's such a jackass technicality >it's not even true since it's blatantly visually based on the goddamn SNES version

Bramble Blast is a great track, but Rumble Falls has the issue of being a scrolling stage, which even back in Melee with Icicle Mountain ends up being a stage that you just have to suffer through if your character is bad at platforming.

It’s sad how on their first try they managed to make a very fun big stage to fight in, then tried it again with New Pork City, Great Cave Offensive and Palutena’s Temple but they all failed due to being massive and being hard to knock opponents out. the least he can do is atleast add a Kirby Air Ride stage, whether is the city or Checkered Knights
There is shit like this and the Rathalos boss arena they could've used for Stage Builder all over the game. They have all these assets they can provide to players and they just don't let them be available.
I am going to be honest, I wish the game could have made more boss characters like Andross, or maybe some DLC characters like Seth should have had a boss fight form. That being said, I agree the stages from the boss fights should have been pickable for normal gameplay.
>No brawl bosses except for Duon for some reason >Ganon has his OoT design but his BotW music >The Yellow Devil is literally already in the game but isn't a boss
yep, it was the first try though, also its Battlefield and Final Destination was unavailable for vs
theres also Brawl that had bosses in rather random locations in SSE, is not the same as having an iconic location like Ganon's tower unavailable for vs
If we got a proper Ganon's Tower stage, then we'd also need more Ganon/dorf themes. Having neither of his OoT battle themes by this point seems pretty ridiculous to me, even without a dedicated stage for him.
And for good measure:
(not a Ganon theme, but Dark Link was working to revive him, so close enough; it'd be even sweeter if this was done as a combo arrangement with the Z2 field enemy theme or regular boss battle theme like Great Temple/Temple)
>people always jerk off melee adventure mode as the pinnacle of smash bros single player >finally play it >it's just a linear classic mode with 4 simple as frick platform segments in between the fights
It's cool the first couple times but it's the same thing no matter what character you choose. Maybe if there were different routes you could take it'd be better but I think that classic mode in smash 4 and ultimste are better.
The CONCEPT of Adventure Mode is good, not its execution considering Melee had one single year of development
The idea is simple, every franchise gets a simple platforming segment representing it, some small in-engine cutscenes with the characters interacting and bantering, a simple story about the characters searching for some macguffin, like a smash ball that grants wishes or something
Yes, sadly PSASBR didn't have platforming segments and only had lame cutscenes for the rival characters fights, no matter how dumb and forced their rivalry was. No character interaction outside that
Melee was only a thing because Smash 64 was a giant success and helped Sakurai into securing nintendo funding but the only catch was that they needed a sequel asap for the upcoming project dolphin, if anything Smash 64 suffered the most from crunch time, considering that it was a glorified skin pack mod for that dragon fighter game.
It's pretty good actually, it's also actually hard on hard and you can make it even more hard depending on which spirits you choose to equip or not equip
SSE was total ass and this is waaay better. However Ultimate is still missing something big time in single player. Classic is kinda eh and can't beat 4's perfect final boss
Nah, World of Light is great if you know shit about video games so that you get all the jokes. And are also playing on hard mode without using spirits that are more powerful than the opponent.
I like the idea, but bot the execution. If it was just a simple event mode and your reward are the stickers to customize your character or trophies I wouldn't mind just because events were fun.
If Sakurai is going to bother with singleplayer, he needs to go all out, like he says he always does in every aspect of his game. Melee had a great singleplayer mode, still has yet to be topped.
Having moved away far from my old roommates, I barely get the chance to do couch co op anymore, and the online is ass no matter. If the online was good, I probably would be happier. Otherwise I actually had the autism to get nearly spirit minus DLC fighter spirits I don't own, and just wish there was more to do with them. Smash Run itself also would've been a fun mode to recycle into Ultimate.
World of Light's way of representing other characters using only in-game assets and stat modifiers was genius, and I wish more games would take this approach.
Only because it was easy enough for children to beat.
I thought that was ass after the first time, like pretty much everyone did Giant DK and Bowser in Fourside to represent Kong vs Godzilla, having devs do that for you is kinda gay imo and just seems like a cope with what they don't have coming from them
It's a full collection of those imagined experiences.
It’s not about difficulty, it’s that those changes are very basic and constantly reutilized. Fighting a guy on a burning stage is cool once or twice but not when I’ve done 10 variations of the same gimmick but with a different character
>Fighting a guy on a burning stage is cool once or twice but not when I’ve done 10 variations of the same gimmick but with a different character
I don't remember encountering that many "burning stage" fights.
And reusing the gimmick would be fine. It's to simulate what fighting that character would be like, so as long as they can differentiate one fight from the next, it's fine.
I thought that was ass after the first time, like pretty much everyone did Giant DK and Bowser in Fourside to represent Kong vs Godzilla, having devs do that for you is kinda gay imo and just seems like a cope with what they don't have coming from them
Sakurai's autism and a corporate mandate to treat all third parties like sacred cows precludes a Smash Adventure from using franchises asymmetrically. No worthwhile adventure mode could possibly accommodate all of the third party characters equally, let alone some select Nintendo characters on top of that.
Is this the real reason they're not making adventure modes anymore? 3rd parties would complain if their characters were t includes?
Guest characters don't appear in the Mortal Kombat story mode. You won't see Peacemaker and Homelander in MK1's campaign. All they need to do is treat 3rd party characters as a separate category.
I don't think so? In Brawl, they had no problem with Snake fighting alongside Nintendo characters. Even in the WoL opening, Bayonetta, Sonic, and Snake are explicitly turned to dust.
I'm sure it's part of the reason, not every publisher has the same attitude about these things. Snake was begged to be put in by Kojigger so there was no risk of anything there. Sonic saved the day in Brawl and they would have lost without him.
>treat all third parties like sacred cows
What? Third party characters get treated differently based on how much Sakurai likes the franchise lmao, with characters like Banjo and Sora getting just the bare minimum, but Kazuya getting a complex, intricate moveset, lots of music, unique abilities and references out of the ass
Been wanting to restart my save file of Ultimate and try to get all the Spirits and shit but I'll miss my old Spirit teams and mii fighters. Anyone know if theres a way to back those up specifically?
Why do people think they're gonna do this? The licenses will have to be renewed and at that point you're better off making a new game. No, you don't need to retain the roster. No, you don't need 3rd parties either, at least not a lot of them.
>Why do people think they're gonna do this?
Mario Kart 8 DX pretty much >The licenses will have to be renewed and at that point you're better off making a new game. No, you don't need to retain the roster.
fair point, idk about that, the latter part > No, you don't need 3rd parties either, at least not a lot of them.
I agree
>arcade modes should be random with variable bonus modes a >adventure mode should be like melee's having a romp through a series' setting but with branching paths and alt course clears >allstar should go back to being completely random while maybe incorporating some of the newer game elements like squad strike >events return >good BtT returns >race to the finish gets multiple courses or maybe just tweaked throwbacks
it's so easy to conceptually make good single player smash content
More well thought out transitional stages. Halberd is easily the best example of having a transforming stage and hazards without it feeling obnoxious. Also bring back mother fricking poke floats
Literally just port the rest of them. Doesn't matter if it's shit or not. I don't know how you can start from 0, go to 100 then say frick it I've had enough when there's like 10 more left. If it's shit just make a nice Omega setpiece.
Super Mario >Mario - already has New Donk City but I'll say Block Fort from MK64 >Luigi - LM3 hotel >Peach - Peach's Cake from Mario Party >Daisy - Daisey's Cruise Ship >Rosalina - a new Rainbow Road rather than MK7 port(it suits her) >Bowser - Bowser's Castle >Bowser Jr - Battlerock Galaxy >Plant - Lavalava Island
theres that paper mario stage that represents the shitty paper mario games that has a bowser castle segments aaaand they gave it the worst plaform layout
I'd say Bowser Jr. should get an Airship Fleet stage, but great choices. >Link - Sacred Grove (generic, vaguely based off LttP) >Zelda - Hyrule Castle (generic, have elements from several games' castles) >Ganondorf - Dark World (pyramid area) >Toon Link - Spirit Tracks, but fixed so half the stage doesn't fricking vanish every 30 seconds >Young Link - Clock Town >Sheik - Temple of Time
Kill off every scrolling, transforming, and walkoff stage. Whatever Smash 4's utterly horrendous stage selection was, I want the complete opposite of that.
I will say, Melee's Mute City stage was pretty great, I'm not sure why they brought the shitty ugly brawl version back over that
do people actually want "everyone to be revamped" or is it another buzzword like Smash Kart? really most people can just use a few tweaks but is not super necessary
Ice Climbers are completely uninspired as a fighter and would have the title of shittiest representation of their series if Pac-Man wasn't in the game. Thrown them to the top or replace them.
>Change Jigglybuff, Ness, and Mewtwo >Keep Ike, Lucas, and Pit even though they represent their games misserably >Remove Snake, Robin, Sheik, Incineroar of all characters
I hate rostergays so much. Do you even play Nintendo games besides Smash?
You've clearly played EB since you put Ness there, why give him new shit while Lucas has to be the same? Ness represents EarthBound better than Lucas represents Mother 3
9 months ago
Anonymous
y'know idek, I didn't play EB but I am aware that Ness has PSI Rockin that he can use and that both him and Lucas borrows moves from their fellow party members
Jigglypuff could use fairy moves to refresh her, but really I think she's low priority too, even being a staple
Mewtwo I have some moves that just suck like his side B, either change it or buff,
I like Snake but like 10 of his moves can go to Sami for insurance
likewise Sheik to Impa, Robin(but frick him) to Isaac, Inceneroar to Ringside Wrestler
but I guess for some of these just have both, nothing wrong with having similar characters, is the character that matters more than the function in these kind of games which is why I don't mind the spacies
honestly once you get past the novelty of having all the characters in the game ultimate is just not that good
you can't say it out loud though, because people get mad and tell you to take a shower
smash bros. playerbase is the strongest personality cults in gaming trumping even kojimbo
In terms of popularity >Shoryuken > Get over here >>>>> Falcon Punch
10 out 10 people know Shoryuken, 8 know Get over here and about 3 know Falcon Punch.
My favorite thing about the DLC spirit board was alwayd defeating the spirit with a "relevant character". Like defeating Morgana, Ryuji and Ann with Wii Fit Trainer (Kamoshida) or Aqua with Wolf (Braig)
Andross
Dr Eggman
Octoling
Waluigi
Raven Beak
Skullkid
King Boo
Bandana Waddle Dee
Magolor
Sylux
Black Shadow
E.M.M.I
Goroh
Meowth./Team Rocket
Vaati
Fawful
Master Hand Jr
Sakurai's taste in stages is so garbage. Theres like 8 DK jungle stages all with the same music, 15 renditions of the main zelda theme. Ganondorf's theme is stuck at the end of the song of storms for some reason. Garbage taste. Brawlvault was my haunt back in the day. It was so cool to actually have bowser music and fight in bowser's castle. You think that would just be in the game already
the honeymoon period is over, steve ravaged the meta and melee is still alive, so there's no longer any reason for people to pretend the game is the best thing since sliced bread
If we were in a perfect world where WoL was a full-blown story mode like SSE, what characters would you guys want to see team up/interact with each other? (Also how the frick would they go about Dr. Mario and the 3 Links all being separate entities?)
I just bought smash ultimate and I was always under the impression world of light was an evolution of the subspace emissary but you just go around fighting other characcters one on one as usual but you get some stickers? Is that It. Also there are no trophies in this game why the frick is this the "ultimate" smash if it has less content than the previous ones.
>Sector Z
Similar to Corneria, but larger. I guess they figured it would be weird or redundant. >Zebes
Aesthetically and mechanically similar to Brinstar, despite the unique layout. Probably thought it was also redundant. >Mario Bros
Same as the previous two, though I prefer the Melee version to the N64 verison. >Mute City
Too much work to get it up to visual standards, and Port Town apes its gimmick. >Rainbow Road
Too much work to update visuals, I guess. >Pac Maze
Officially, its gimmick could not be replicated on Switch. I imagine this was a fairly late decision, though, since the ghosts were made into an AT. >Woolly World
Probably some weird frickery with stage swap.
the series is literally called super mario brothers. He can skip games but you can't explain Mario as a franchise without Luigi
9 months ago
Anonymous
no the franchise is called a Super Mario first and foremost
9 months ago
Anonymous
I'd argue that's more of a branding gimmick since Mario has gone solo more often even though the series literally starts as super mario bros, but whatever. Beyond semantics that still doesn't diminish Luigi's importance to the franchise as one of the main characters
Now it's just "PRETEND THIS IS THE CHARACTER YOU ACTUALLY WANTED"
it had unique missions rather than just custom matches
like the yoshi event where you have to protect an egg
Or the Luigi and Dr. Mario + Peach one where you watch yourself get your ass beat in 5 seconds.
I forgot about this event match kek
A lot of the later events in Melee were like that, especially that one and Pikachu & Pichu. You either hope they SD each other or fall off the stage by accident.
I mainly cheesed those with Roy's counter or Ness's PK Fire spam with offstage PK Thunder chasers when there's a single enemy.
i have PTSD from that last one with ganondorf, mewtwo, and giga bowser. I was never particularly "good" at smash because I never had anyone good to play with/against
>get ganondorf to SD without too much trouble
>coax mewtwo into doing the same with a bit of difficulty
>use rest on giga bowser
Holy shit, are you me anon?
Imagine not plugging up the controller in socket 3, doing the name entry glitch and owning Ganon, Mewtwo and Giga Bowser with Master Hand
the what now anon? first i'm hearing of this
The fricking 3 metal samuses was my nightmare as a kid. Mostly because brinstar depths is ass
Another one is Pokémon Battle (only Pokéball summons can hurt Pikachu), just choose Fox, spam laser, and Pikachu breaks shield, you’ll get the upper hand easily.
>for a while the world record for Dino-Wrangling is literally restarting until the yoshi AI kills himself in .5 seconds
I only ever got .53
>I really wish Sakurai would just give in and put Adventure mode
sure, once he has a guarantee that the cutscenes don't ever make their way online
which is silly, KIU had a frick ton of memorable scenes
So when you see Smash Bros, don't assume that their resistance to things like story modes with lots of cutscenes is just Sakurai being obstinate (though that's certainly part of it), it's also likely just a matter of how they spend money in general
That being said, I would have preferred Smash Run to World of Light but Smash Ultimate was very breadth > depth in content
I would be fine with in-engine scenes that are brief like in Melee, though not as short
Melee did have cutscenes, like The Star Fox team having lines before the second SG fight and short intros like Giant Kirby, Metal Mario Bros and Giga Bowser
here they are btw
?si=nlR1PEB7KsWevPi4
Don't post that, now Sakurai will remove Story Mode from the next game
>implying there would be a story mode at this point
Well damn, then it is no wonder that it makes them so much money.
What about the character showcases are low budget? They do what they need to do
probably that its mostly just a fairly short SSE style cutscene then a bunch of in game footage and sakurai talking about the character while playing as them in a small room.
Filtered.
I always wanted them to keep an adventure mod the same length as Melee's but add lots of branching paths like starfox so it doesn't get repetitive.
yeah that would be great
>No adventure mode
>No trophies
So what's the fricking point?
Still better than Smash Tour.
Smash Tour sucked but Master and Crazy Orders were great. Smash Ultimate doesn't have a single mode you can say was good or played more than 1 time to completion then never again.
Ultimates classic mode is perfect. Unique, themed routes for every character.
Only the first time. It's not like you can play it again with a different character. There's no replay value. They should have just made a mode like the 3DS Classic mode and called it Arcade mode.
I mean you could say that for nearly every smash bros single player mode, from all star to classic to adventure mode, especially in melee/brawl.
NTA, but Ultimate's classic mode is repetitive as shit. What's the point of the unique routes is 75% of the time is going to end against Master & Crazy hand? Is a waste of time honestly.
>Ultimate's classic mode is repetitive as shit
You can say this about every mode in every game.
>Diddy is trying to find out if he could be a sidekick to anyone besides DK
>Red/Leaf is battling all of the Pokemon to be the best in Smash
>Banjo-Kazooie are fighting the duos of Nintendo games
Some of the "plots" are neat.
Funny enough, Diddy already proved himself in DKC2. Telling that Sakurai only took DKC into consideration, hence no Dixie Kong.
no doubt
That reminds me, someone made a video concept of classic routes having unique openings. Makes me wish they did something like that.
Yeah that blew dick.
How Sora didn't fight Dharkon and how Kazuya didn't fight Galeem (among many others) was such a missed opportunity
is far from perfect by the fact that you repeat the same sidecroller course for all fighters and like 90% hand bosses
>perfect
>Pokemon and Mother had unique bosses they could have recycled
>plus there was one boss they could have used for all the pairs
>everyone gets the same race to the finish
>no other minigame
>everyone gets the same race to the finish
This shit drove me nuts. You've got this nice modular block system for the mode and use it for 1 (one) stage? Total bullshit.
Rayquaza fight on a Sky Pillar background would have been kino.
90% of end bosses for the roster are mr hand and crazy hand.
For about 50% of the cast they are exactly the same.
I did classic mode with all chars together with my gf and it sucked. Once you get past the first 20 characters its always master hand and crazy hand.
>Smash Ultimate doesn't have a single mode you can say was good
It has one of the best Classic modes.
It was still more than what Smash 4 had. SOMEHOW.
Idk. I enjoyed Smash Tour. It was a really fun pace breaker with friends.
Why do people hate it so much?
The idea of a Smash board game isn't inherently a terrible idea but it would be better if more thought was put into designing it and it wasn't thrown together.
It's not Smash Run or Adventure Mode.
smash run was great, adventure was too... I mise them
>2014
>Sakurai shows off Smash Run
>Looks pretty fun, all kinds of enemies from the series to fight, even Kremlings came back and M1 of all things got the Devil Car
>Wii U version could have the same mode or even a cooler mode
>LOL NOPE, here's Mario Party with even more bullshit
Pic related was also making the rounds before they showed off the Wii U version. Shit like this made people hate Sakurai, not because it wasn't real, but because Smash Tour was the main Wii U mode alongside the actual base roster.
In fairness to Sakurai, he's actually right in not wanting to turn smash into a generic fighting game, he's just completely moronic and doesn't know what makes party modes in fighting games fun, because World of Light, Smash tour, and all the other singleplayer modes that have been since Subspace Emissary were all boring even to kids
On the other hand, we'll never see a revisit of smash run
It hurts
The street fighter world tour, some boss fights and the dracula's castle section were the best parts, I wish the entire mode was like that instead of filler battles, obnoxious gimmicks and half assed mechanics.
>The street fighter world tour
That part was fricking cool, same with the DKC map.
it had some moments but somehow it was even more of a drag than SSE
is not hard to 100% it but man it felt like forever scrounging around the overworld just for that one spirit battle you skipped without knowing
>need to get the light, dark, AND neutral endings
yugh
>all that fricking health galleem and dharkon has
>spend like an fighting a towel and lightbulb or an extenstion cord and an eyeball
like atleast give them a cool design but this was the moment Sakurai had a jrpg fetish with WoL being obvious about this to begin with
classic mode too has this monotony problem
>add new bosses and personalized classic routes
>like 50 Master Hand/Crazy Hand final bosses anyways
>literally EVERYONE has that boring sidescroller course
>literally EVERYONE has that boring sidescroller course
me and a friend binged classic mode when he got the game and that shit got old after the second time
We learned how to maximize the credits high score too. The pink bombs give you more points per word than anything else.
it would be cool if they gave a unique shooter credit atleast by series
like atleast The Blue Falcon for F-Zero and Arwing for Starfox
frick
That's one of the "hope they SD themselves" fights
I found this one way more obnoxious
>Cat and Villager
You're not even fricking trying, Sakurai. WoL was just a big gallery of middle fingers to people who wanted in particular characters. The only ones that actually worked with the ones with Mii Costumes or Assists, but those were double middle fingers.
You're lucky, you got a presence in Smash in the first place.
Just checked the wiki and I'm surprised there's nothing from Crystal Shards from what I can see.
there's nothing from modern Kirby (anything past SS really) in the series, Sakurai hates everything in the series that he didn't make
I see Susie, the Mage Sisters, Magolor, and the Robobot armor as stickers so the RtDL+ games are technically accounted for (along with Sectonia's FLOWERED theme for Kirby stages).
Don't settle for scraps, that anon isn't wrong.
>You're lucky, you got a presence in Smash in the first place.
Yeah...
I think he did have a spirit atleast
Mike Jones and Startropics are one of the few Nintendo IPs that have zero representation across all of Smash.
Even Eternal Darkness has representation as a spirit, and Nintendo hasn't acknowledged that game since it was released. I mean, yeah they haven't acknowledged Startopics either, but Startopics was at least made by Nintendo, which makes it all the stranger.
thats weird since Star Tropics was featured in the NES Mini
Agreed
Imagine being demoted to a PNG
>You're not even fricking trying, Sakurai.
POGGURUSUUUUUUU
great taste on his part for choosing an actually cute zelda instead of gay dumb botw zelda
That's another bullshit excuse of his. The real reason is he wanted a princess that actually looked like a Princess and how Zelda usually looks.
This too.
He's not wrong. Age of Calamity literally had to give her Link's abilities.
Good. Keep her out so I don't have to listen to her dying grandma voice. The fact that this fricking game doesn't even have a voice toggle is an insult. Just change the language of the whole fricking game bro. This game has zero quality of life settings that would take barely a day to implement.
This is one take I completely agree with him on, in BOTW and TOTK she's a non-combatant who completely NEEDS Link for defense, and in AoC she commandeers the Sheikah Slate because she can't do shit on her own
he's right
warriors games shoehorn bullshit skills on everyone for the sake of making them playable
and smash doesn't?
>he says, when Smash Bros makes up moves for more than half the characters in the game.
>Farore's Wind > Revali's Gale
>Din's Fire > Urbosa's Fury
>Nayru's Love > Daruk's Protection
But I'm glad they didn't. BotW Zelda is genuinely boring, and the only people who like her are people whose first Zelda was BotW (or TotK now).
yeah
who is asking for BoTW Zelda?
the ones i found the most annoying were Guile, Pauline, Funky Kong and Dr.Wily.
the just use the sniper and is ez pz
good thing I got a legendary sticker by the time I got here
>We have to save Dr. W-Willy, Megaman!
>But where IS doctor Wily?
honestly, why couldn't they just make Dr. Wily a boss? like they already had an AT model
All of the interactive assist trophies could have been mini bosses. Just put health bars on them.
yeah, they are pretty much fighters with less moves at this point
That one was pretty easy the cheese by equipping the big laser gun.
This one is easy with samus or any long range attacker
and this one is wasy with DK of you spam Down+B
This one was the filter for people who didn't have the brains to use spirits. Sniper spirit completely and utterly trivializes this fight.
Smash Run > WoL
Smash Run needed online (would've lagged immensely on the 3DS) and customization options, like being able to select CPU level and what the final round will be.
melee's the best one
the good:
it's not smash tour
the references can be pretty clever
the bad:
virtually everything else about it
I also liked the skill tree and boss battles.
Being better than Smash Tour is not an accomplishment, nor a high bar to reach.
shit like this was funny as hell though
is funny how one twitter gay got the injun G&W animation removed whining like a b***h
yet shit like this was in the game and no one batted an eye
goes to show how these kind of gays really don't play vidya
it's not even that far into WoL, either
it's because twitter Black folk and gays, or anyone that complains about games don't actually play games, like holy shit all of you should know better by now
we all know that, is the devs that should know better
ENTER SANDMAN
>could've picked little mac, the actual boxxer.
>Picks a literal monkey.
The ape suits Mike Tyson better
Also, DK shows up in Punch Out Wii
Wasn't there also a fight with Balrog from SF that used DK, or is this the one I'm thinking of?
Balrog used Littlemac
Right, I just remember the gimmick being supercharged punches for TAP/dash punches and thought it was DK's windup.
Why do we hate Sakurai again?
>nerfing Snake's ass
>only allowing his special pet Kid Icarus girl to have an upskirt
some things can never be forgiven
Remember when Smash was rated T for Teen?
Mythra is hotter with the tights but I miss the boob window
IIRC the black villager skins were added later in development. In 4 and early Ultimate trailers those alts were still white.
It's possible that event was made before then.
Imagine how long the game would have to be delayed in order to give the full base-game roster moments to shine in the story.
And it still would've been ignored and forgotten for the multiplayer fights anyway.
This. It would have been a complete fricking waste especially if some sperg leaked aa majority of the cutscenes and spoilers flooded the internet. SSBU at this point has a bigger roster than MVC2 or even some DBZ games.
Everyone knows Subspace's story by now and it's hailed as a classic
yeah, forgot to mention that. i had an idea where they could maybe pick three characters to be protagonists, and sort of "sideline" the other characters, but that idea doesn't really sound any better.
personalized classic mode was a step in the right direction, make it like pulp fiction where the story is all over the place, hell this was pretty much Kirby Super Star
it's only an issue with ultimate's gigantic roster, cut out most of the unnecessary characters and you could easily split them into groups with their own stories that intertwine at certain points. Sonic Heroes did it like that iirc.
frick
It's a lot easier if you cheese it with PSI magnet
Celebi because I can just turtle while spamming PK Thunder 2 when I'm at low %.
>Stamina Battle
>Use autoheal support spirits
EZ game
i did the same cheese as unlocking falco in melee, down+b for 30 mins
>Finally completed my Spirit collection and this thread pops up
I fricking love World of Light bros. It was way more than it needed to be for a Smash singleplayer mode. Favorite Spirits? Skull Kid is fun with his Lifesteal mechanic.
>tfw Bandana Waddle Dee was my most wanted
>he doesn't get in but he turns out to be a useful spirit you can get early
love this homie, the battering bonus plus a support item loadout spirit was a great combo that made WoL a breeze before getting a Legendary primary spirit
You suck Dragon Quest's wiener but I can't frick up some slimes as my homie Bowser?
this guy gets it
>that mario sidescroller level with enemies you can bounce high off of
>a zelda dungeon crawl
>a metroid planet zebes escape
>the starfox section had a cutscene with the pilots talking
>an f-zero race to the finish
>an ice climber ascent
It's got a lot and you get through it fast so you are exposed swifly to all different music, stages and characters
since the dust has settled
thoughts on Galeem and Dharkon?
seemed cool in the trailer but turned out to be absolutely, 100%, positively, without-question gay and moronic
Simple Light God Dark God trope we've seen all over. I found their boss fight fun but nothing to write home about. Theres a challenge to do their whole boss fight without getting KO'd and thats a fun challenge with Dorf or something.
amazing how master and crazy hands are still the best "bad guys" in smash.
everyone that comes after comes off as tryhard atleast Mastercore was cool since it was a form of Masterhand
That Master Dungeon or whatever the WiiU-exclusive final phase was called was horrible.
yeah, it didn't suit the monster phase that made core cool and is just silly contextually
tabuu was pretty cool
I never did dodge his 0HKO
see
they suck
Tabuu was better
A whole lotta nothing.
in the lore this is the autistic kid's parents getting divorced
>it's fricking nothing.jpg
The trailer/opening cutscene was kino, but then the game did absolutely nothing with them. Sakurai is still ass-blasted over the Subspace cutscenes being uploaded to Youtube, so he refuses to make in-game cutscenes. So you get disappointing single player modes and bosses because there's no sense of progression or story
To be fair it's not like tabbu did frick all outside of getting BTFO by Sonic
Literally nobody ever played coin battle ever
I like how they're animated
World of Light is great, and I'm glad no one in this thread is trying to pretend that Subspace Emissary was better.
I had fun with Hitstun Emmisary at the time
Nah, Subspace Emissary was much better.
It also had a much cooler final boss and final boss theme.
Blue Master Xehanort (designed by Nomura) was not in any way good or interesting.
>Final Boss theme
I wouldn't mind Spirits replacing Trophies if they had some fricking text like trophies.
This. "Girl From Volleyball" tells me fricking nothing about the character.
Imagining being the one intern tasked with plagiarizing fan wikis for lore dumps on spirits.
oh yeah the other highlight:
Being able to play as Master Hand even if it wasn't his full moveset, still cool to destroy all those mobs with handslaps
you can play as full moveset master hand in melee multiplayer.
When this was discovered me and my siblings had fun with it
>have to complete 99% of the fricking awful WoL to only play him in one single event
>can't even unlock him to play it for fun side gamemodes that aren't available online
its shit
To this day I don't know why Warframe technically got into Smash Bros.
Who the frick asked for this? I know it's a shitty sticker and I don't care why is this garbage in Smash? Who sucked off Sakurai for this?
so thats what the hell that was from
what the frick when did warframe major story spoilers get into smash brothers?
It's ok but it just lasted too long. I felt like I played it forever and never got to the end.
>waa i don't want my cutscenes to leak
the last 2 zelda games have leaked early in their entirety, would sakurai just deep six the entire zelda franchise?
There is no source for this btw
no I was there when ToTK was leaked here, happened for Pokemom Legends of Arceus aswell
No, Sakurai claims.
When Xenoblade 3 got leaked so did gigachad Rex. That was the first thing people saw before anyone even started the game.
The 3DS mode is the best for me.
>Literally refused to make a single player campaign because of Youtube videos
Sakurai for ya.
NASB2 sweep coming soon
speaking of bosses
>severely lacking in new stages for the base games
>fricking lock potentially great new stages behind bosses
>Ganon's tower is here... for the boss fight
>Marx's wasteland is here... for the boss fight
>Ancestral Steppes is here... for the Rathalos fight
yet they did it for Dracula's Castle, the background is already here the least they can do is add battlefield or omega platforms
honestly one of the most overlooked bullshit that went unnoticed in the smash community
Everyone just plays on PS2 anyways.
Yeah I never noticed.
Those stages would have been so kino
i had the ganons tower stage from brawl vault
*sips*
now that was a good stage
Would've rather Marx be playable instead of a boss.
I think he's fine as a boss but I really wish there was an official stage version with this background
He actually has a fun moveset in Star Allies, not that Sakurai will ever acknowledge since it's a game by based Kumazaki.
Fun fact: Every series that was in Smash 64 has had a stage featured in a later Smash game from a title that came out after Smash 64 except for Kirby
>Mario: numerous
>Yoshi: Woolly World
>Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, DKC Returns
>Zelda: numerous
>Metroid: Prime, Other M
>Star Fox: Assault
>Pokemon: numerous
>F-Zero: GX
>Earthbound: Mother 3
just a completely cucked franchise
but is super star ultra :^)
It's maddening how Sakurai tried to pull that for Great Cave Offensive, when
>it's such a jackass technicality
>it's not even true since it's blatantly visually based on the goddamn SNES version
such a terrible stage
what were they thinking
It's made for casual items on 8 player madness. Once you accept that you start to see its value.
>hard to see
>slopes result in items plummeting off-screen
>top area's blast zone is low
>all the lava killing at 100% or higher means no funny bouncing like in Temple
Even with 8 players and items on, it fricking blows.
yeah stages that big might as well be for online modes like say smash run map
The perfect "large-scale" Smash stage has existed for decades, I have no clue why they think anything bigger than this is good
I've played a bunch of casual Smash with friends before and not once has anyone ever said "lets go to Great Cave Offensive"
Temple really is THE stage to do whatever the frick you want with a bunch of bros. I also like 64's Hyrule Castle despite being simple. Even New Pork City was somehow better than Palutena's Temple and especially Great Cave Offensive.
The main thing that kept me playing on stages like New Pork City and Rumble Falls back in Brawl was the music.
I especially hated fighting Ness and Lucas in a Brawl Intense Difficulty Classic Mode/All Star Run because that was the only Earthbound Stage and those fights would drag out
the cracker launcher on super sudden death saved this stage in Brawl
The main elements which keep New Pork city from being another Hyrule temple are are its gimmicks: the breakable planks, and the Chimera that appears and OHKOs people. Also, roofed platforms are scarce
>all that random hail mary of shit on the right for no reason
they just gave the frick up
Imagine if the stage was the city itself and not platforms in front of it
it wouldn't be so bad if it wans't for all that empty air space that pretty much takes the top half
>I especially hated fighting Ness and Lucas in a Brawl Intense Difficulty Classic Mode/All Star Run because that was the only Earthbound Stage and those fights would drag out
>not breaking the wooden platform and gimping them
Small time anon, I knew to do that back when I was playing on wii motes and didn't know what a grab or spot dodge was.
Newpork was so fricking shit, it was a part of Sakurai's dumb ass idea to force a more aerial playstyle in Brawl but it was just awful to play. Same with Hanenbow, DK arcade and others
>me playing this stage
>99 stock matches with 3 random npcs and items on (minus healing/foods)
>see how much of a stock lead I could get by the end
>do this for 2 years
I never really thought about it but why is hyrule temple flying...
Also what the frick is hyrule temple, isn't it based on castle...
This is the worst stage in the history of fighting games, maybe ever.
it would be good if the killzones were based in knockback like Mishimasdojo walls and not percentages
It's still not good because the color vomit and zoom-out make it impossible to fricking see what your characters are doing
You can literally count the pixels when its all the way out for fricks sake
yeah it would benefit from an individual camera, is the kind of stage that should be for online play
imagine if CoD maps were all birds eye view so every player has to share a screen
it's close, but have you considered
even worse than hanenbow
You can at least see the characters on the screen in Pac Land.
The map zooms out so far in GCO its unusable as a stage.
God what a Clusterfrick
Hyrule Temple will always be the King, all Platform Fighters should copy it
At least you can walk in both of those.
Forgot pic
This stage could have worked if it was World of Light exclusive and had a camera like the Zelda Adventure stage in Melee.
It was made to justify 8 player smash. Same with Palutenas temple.
I remember they tried hyping it up in one of the 50 fact extravaganza video for Smash Wii U but nobody really cared.
>for Smash Wii U but nobody really cared
Black person get the frick out of here
the most fun I've ever had in Smash was when playing with 7 other friends/random morons.
If Nintendo didn't made you pay for the shittiest online there is, there'd be a chance to have 8 player Smash but the online was made with a shoestring's budget.
>but muh comp...
i dont care, comp's for gays
Should've specified the Kirby stage.
Honestly that stage is too big to 8 player smash, but I do see it fun for casual fights. I wish spirits used the actual stage instead of just the FD or BF versions
One of the DK spirits used the actual stage from what I remember.
Yeah, the parrot one.
I get why they picked Halberd in Brawl because of Meta Knight. But why did the TWO new stages in Smash 4 had to be from games ALREADY represented and why are they so shitty?
the least he can do is atleast add a Kirby Air Ride stage, whether is the city or Checkered Knights
That’s why Sakurai needs to frick off so we can get 1 or more modern Kirby Stages
He looks noticeably off. He's not even a remotely modern design, he's just taken from Super Star.
Remember Sephiroth Challenge?
That shit was fricking weird.
>No brawl bosses except for Duon for some reason
>Ganon has his OoT design but his BotW music
>The Yellow Devil is literally already in the game but isn't a boss
Galleom's in SSBU too
>>>>>>>>>>>>no boss rush mode
God what an absolute fricking waste this game is
there is a boss rush but you can only play it using sephiroth
Were you upset that Meta Crystal wasn't a playable stage in 64? Fighting games have boss exclusive stages all the time. They're just flat anyway
yep, it was the first try though, also its Battlefield and Final Destination was unavailable for vs
theres also Brawl that had bosses in rather random locations in SSE, is not the same as having an iconic location like Ganon's tower unavailable for vs
If we got a proper Ganon's Tower stage, then we'd also need more Ganon/dorf themes. Having neither of his OoT battle themes by this point seems pretty ridiculous to me, even without a dedicated stage for him.
And for good measure:
(not a Ganon theme, but Dark Link was working to revive him, so close enough; it'd be even sweeter if this was done as a combo arrangement with the Z2 field enemy theme or regular boss battle theme like Great Temple/Temple)
i dont rememebr a SINGLE thing about world of light aside from it taking so long.
he set the bar for singleplayer so low with 4 that he was able to get away with this pile of shit in ultimate
is weird how badges are a better version of spirits
spirits suck because a bunch of different one just do the same shit so is so much filler
>people always jerk off melee adventure mode as the pinnacle of smash bros single player
>finally play it
>it's just a linear classic mode with 4 simple as frick platform segments in between the fights
It's cool the first couple times but it's the same thing no matter what character you choose. Maybe if there were different routes you could take it'd be better but I think that classic mode in smash 4 and ultimste are better.
thats way it would work better with how Ultimate had personalized classic routes
>classic mode in smash 4
I hope you meant the 3ds version.
The CONCEPT of Adventure Mode is good, not its execution considering Melee had one single year of development
The idea is simple, every franchise gets a simple platforming segment representing it, some small in-engine cutscenes with the characters interacting and bantering, a simple story about the characters searching for some macguffin, like a smash ball that grants wishes or something
>a simple story about the characters searching for some macguffin
That's basically Playstation All-stars battle royal story mode.
Yes, sadly PSASBR didn't have platforming segments and only had lame cutscenes for the rival characters fights, no matter how dumb and forced their rivalry was. No character interaction outside that
I miss Melee Adventure Mode, sucks that Melee was rushed, would anyone sacrifice Smash 64 to give Melee more development time?
Melee only exists because of 64.
>Beat WoL
>Play again
>Banjo-Kazooie with Giant, Boosted Attack, other OP shit
>Everything dies in 5 seconds after a single Wonderwing
It's pretty good actually, it's also actually hard on hard and you can make it even more hard depending on which spirits you choose to equip or not equip
SSE was total ass and this is waaay better. However Ultimate is still missing something big time in single player. Classic is kinda eh and can't beat 4's perfect final boss
It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't go on forever. It just doesn't know when to end.
I will now remind everyone to go look at what Pazs spirit gives you at the start of a battle
>basically made a ginormous event mode
Was pretty soulful too with the amount of Easter Eggs. I liked it but to each his own
>caring about single player content in a multiplayer oriented game
Just play with your bros, eat snacks, you know the drill
If Sakurai is going to bother with singleplayer, he needs to go all out, like he says he always does in every aspect of his game. Melee had a great singleplayer mode, still has yet to be topped.
Having moved away far from my old roommates, I barely get the chance to do couch co op anymore, and the online is ass no matter. If the online was good, I probably would be happier. Otherwise I actually had the autism to get nearly spirit minus DLC fighter spirits I don't own, and just wish there was more to do with them. Smash Run itself also would've been a fun mode to recycle into Ultimate.
Needed unique dark samus moves.
Welcome to 4 years ago. Are people finally ready to admit that Sakurai is actually human and isn't some sort of perfect savant of game design?
Anyone else did a Kirby only run in this?
Why? I could barely force myself to finish my first playthrough of it. Don't tell me you went back for multiple runs of this shit. kek
is waaayyyy too long for that shit but I did mostly used kirby and never touched it again after 100%
World of Light's way of representing other characters using only in-game assets and stat modifiers was genius, and I wish more games would take this approach.
It was very meh and you never really felt like you were fighting the character, or like each fight was unique. Lots of it was samey filler
Only because it was easy enough for children to beat.
I played WoL recently, theres definitely way too many "floor is x" variants that is might as well be 100 floor is fire battles
Melee events did have better mission structures with unique goals like Yoshi protecting an egg
I can agree that mission variety is lacking.
I thought that was ass after the first time, like pretty much everyone did Giant DK and Bowser in Fourside to represent Kong vs Godzilla, having devs do that for you is kinda gay imo and just seems like a cope with what they don't have coming from them
>beating it is the only way to change the menu music
Frick you, Sakurai.
lol that was a little mean, though you can just play on Very Easy
IM STILL MAD ABOUT MASTER HAND NOT HAVING A SEPERATE MODE HOLY SHIT I SHOULDNT NEED TO WASTE A SAVE FILE FOR THIS.
That is all.
Sonic saved the day in Brawl and they would have lost without him.
fox's legs look extra short
Brawl had the best visual cohesion and I'm tired of pretending that it didn't
I don't think you ever pretended it didn't.
Fricking Bayonetta dying to Galeem while Kirby gets to live is DeathBattle-levels of stupid
it happens, still funny how only Sonic was able to hurt Taboo in SSE
>treat all third parties like sacred cows
Anyone know if theres a way to back those up specifically?
you can start a new game with the spirits you already have
heres your Smash Deluxe bro
Why do people think they're gonna do this? The licenses will have to be renewed and at that point you're better off making a new game. No, you don't need to retain the roster. No, you don't need 3rd parties either, at least not a lot of them.
>Why do people think they're gonna do this?
Mario Kart 8 DX pretty much
>The licenses will have to be renewed and at that point you're better off making a new game. No, you don't need to retain the roster.
fair point, idk about that, the latter part
> No, you don't need 3rd parties either, at least not a lot of them.
I agree
Mario Kart isn't playing with 3rd party IP's, so Ultimate DX ain't happening.
yeah I would like all ninty
>arcade modes should be random with variable bonus modes a
>adventure mode should be like melee's having a romp through a series' setting but with branching paths and alt course clears
>allstar should go back to being completely random while maybe incorporating some of the newer game elements like squad strike
>events return
>good BtT returns
>race to the finish gets multiple courses or maybe just tweaked throwbacks
it's so easy to conceptually make good single player smash content
How would improve the stage selection in the next game?
More well thought out transitional stages. Halberd is easily the best example of having a transforming stage and hazards without it feeling obnoxious. Also bring back mother fricking poke floats
I think that any game that already has a stage should be prevented from getting another. We need more deep cuts
Literally just port the rest of them. Doesn't matter if it's shit or not. I don't know how you can start from 0, go to 100 then say frick it I've had enough when there's like 10 more left. If it's shit just make a nice Omega setpiece.
give everyone a home stage
It's insane how certain characters still don't have a stage that specifically relates to them.
Super Mario
>Mario - already has New Donk City but I'll say Block Fort from MK64
>Luigi - LM3 hotel
>Peach - Peach's Cake from Mario Party
>Daisy - Daisey's Cruise Ship
>Rosalina - a new Rainbow Road rather than MK7 port(it suits her)
>Bowser - Bowser's Castle
>Bowser Jr - Battlerock Galaxy
>Plant - Lavalava Island
DK
>Donkey Kong - Minecart Carnage
>Diddy Kong - Sunset Shore
>K Rool - his floating Fortress
>Wario - Crescent Moon Village
>Yoshi - Crafted Wold
LoZ
>Link - Lost Woods
>Zelda - Time Temple
>Sheik - Death Mountain Chasm/Depths
>Ganondorf - Ganon's Tower
>Toon Link - Minish Boot
>Young Link - Clocktown
Metroid
>Samus - Phendrana Drifts
>ZSS - Fusion Lab
>Dark Samus - Phazon Mines
>Ridley - Urttraghus
Kid Icarus
>Pit - Overworld
>Palutena underworld idk never played Kid Icarus
Kirby
>Kirby - City Trial
>Metaknight - Access Ark
>King Dedede - Mt. Dedede
>Captain Falcon - Thunder Road
>Fox - Dinosaur Planet
>Falco - Macbeth
>Wolf - Aparoid Asteroid belt
>Palutena underworld idk never played Kid Icarus
Bro there's a stage currently in the game called Palutena's Temple.
- Bowser's Castle
Honestly, why the frick has it taken so long for Sakurai to make a Bowser's Castle stage for Smash?
Because generic mandate grassy bing bing wahoo lands are more important to represent.
theres that paper mario stage that represents the shitty paper mario games that has a bowser castle segments aaaand they gave it the worst plaform layout
I'd say Bowser Jr. should get an Airship Fleet stage, but great choices.
>Link - Sacred Grove (generic, vaguely based off LttP)
>Zelda - Hyrule Castle (generic, have elements from several games' castles)
>Ganondorf - Dark World (pyramid area)
>Toon Link - Spirit Tracks, but fixed so half the stage doesn't fricking vanish every 30 seconds
>Young Link - Clock Town
>Sheik - Temple of Time
>Airship Fleet stage
thars another one we should've gotten 3 games ago
Metal Cavern, Every single Final Destination and every single Battlefield are in
Kill off every scrolling, transforming, and walkoff stage. Whatever Smash 4's utterly horrendous stage selection was, I want the complete opposite of that.
I will say, Melee's Mute City stage was pretty great, I'm not sure why they brought the shitty ugly brawl version back over that
It's actually unreal how bad every smash sequel has been since melee. And nincucks just keep lapping it up.
Just think of it like the event match mode from the previous games, but longer.
Pedoultimate has lots of input lag.
maybe its time we apologized to poke floats
Poke Floats is fun though. Despite just being Pokemon Stadium 2 model rips, they're all fun to fight on and don't really get in the way.
The problem with 90% of the new stages is that they're just not fricking fun and do more to frick you over and get in your way.
it makes me wonder how hard is it really for them to make Smash Bros
do people actually want "everyone to be revamped" or is it another buzzword like Smash Kart? really most people can just use a few tweaks but is not super necessary
Why would they cut Snake?
they already cut him before and he's not too associated with Ninty to come off as a Nintendo all star
>replace solid fricking snake, the first third party
kill
yourself
Black person
it happened before so is more insurance than anything
>Functionally replace
>Incineroar and Greninja
With who? There's no other Pokemon like them, both physique and purpose wise.
>keep it as it is
>Link
>Bowser
homie, Link needs runes and champion abilities and Bowser needs Bowsers inside story moves
Ice Climbers are completely uninspired as a fighter and would have the title of shittiest representation of their series if Pac-Man wasn't in the game. Thrown them to the top or replace them.
>of their series
They're from a single game where they have two abilities: jump and hammer. Genuinely curious as to how you would fix them
>Change Jigglybuff, Ness, and Mewtwo
>Keep Ike, Lucas, and Pit even though they represent their games misserably
>Remove Snake, Robin, Sheik, Incineroar of all characters
I hate rostergays so much. Do you even play Nintendo games besides Smash?
NTA but I play a lot of games
add Excitebiker for another retro(ish) guy
you make 0 sense dude
How? Ike is fast in his own game and has projectiles, in Smash he's a slow, lumbering character
okay, one guy out of like 50 others, sorry I didn't play FE among like a hundred games I played
You've clearly played EB since you put Ness there, why give him new shit while Lucas has to be the same? Ness represents EarthBound better than Lucas represents Mother 3
y'know idek, I didn't play EB but I am aware that Ness has PSI Rockin that he can use and that both him and Lucas borrows moves from their fellow party members
>Pit represents his game miserably
???
to be fair KI 1 and 2 were both games no one played but people memed about tit getting a sequel because of Captain N and Nintendo Power Magazine
basically he was the original geno, but atleast he was the mc of his game
yeah a "total revamp" is super unnecessary for like 99% of the cast
what the hell is Smash Kart
the idea that Mario Kart should be all-nintendo rather than Mario
like no one actually wants a smash kart but really a few more guest characters. is always the same bunch
>Kirby
>Fox
>Captain Falcon
>Samus
>Pikachu
honestly once you get past the novelty of having all the characters in the game ultimate is just not that good
you can't say it out loud though, because people get mad and tell you to take a shower
smash bros. playerbase is the strongest personality cults in gaming trumping even kojimbo
unrelated but whats the most iconic phrase in fighting games history
>FALCON PUNCH!
>GET OVER HERE!
>SHORYUKEN!/HADOUKEN!
In terms of popularity
>Shoryuken > Get over here >>>>> Falcon Punch
10 out 10 people know Shoryuken, 8 know Get over here and about 3 know Falcon Punch.
>need to beat this shitty mode to unlock alternate menu music
Frick you Sakurai you god damn hack
all about the same
It is lame
COLORS WEAVE INTO A SPIRE OF FLAME
I TAKE Black person DICK CAUSE I AM A GAY
This is the best reply I've ever seen to someone singing on this website
My favorite thing about the DLC spirit board was alwayd defeating the spirit with a "relevant character". Like defeating Morgana, Ryuji and Ann with Wii Fit Trainer (Kamoshida) or Aqua with Wolf (Braig)
What villains/rivals should be added in the future?
Andross
Dr Eggman
Octoling
Waluigi
Raven Beak
Skullkid
King Boo
Bandana Waddle Dee
Magolor
Sylux
Black Shadow
E.M.M.I
Goroh
Meowth./Team Rocket
Vaati
Fawful
Master Hand Jr
Mike Tyson would be kinography
Sakurai's taste in stages is so garbage. Theres like 8 DK jungle stages all with the same music, 15 renditions of the main zelda theme. Ganondorf's theme is stuck at the end of the song of storms for some reason. Garbage taste. Brawlvault was my haunt back in the day. It was so cool to actually have bowser music and fight in bowser's castle. You think that would just be in the game already
Why the hell do almost all Metroid stages involve lava except for one
I just now remembered that every single Metroid stage either plays terribly or looks ugly
atleast Brinstar Depths is great with hazards turned off
Is it? I remember the ledges being fricked
yeah you're right, also I gotta say is not at annoying with post-melee fall speed though I much prefer melee physics
Why is everyone shitting on Ultimate lately?
the honeymoon period is over, steve ravaged the meta and melee is still alive, so there's no longer any reason for people to pretend the game is the best thing since sliced bread
If we were in a perfect world where WoL was a full-blown story mode like SSE, what characters would you guys want to see team up/interact with each other? (Also how the frick would they go about Dr. Mario and the 3 Links all being separate entities?)
time travel, man it would've been so much cooler if they added Chrono instead of either Hero or Sephiroth
I just bought smash ultimate and I was always under the impression world of light was an evolution of the subspace emissary but you just go around fighting other characcters one on one as usual but you get some stickers? Is that It. Also there are no trophies in this game why the frick is this the "ultimate" smash if it has less content than the previous ones.
they focused more on rostergayging
They literally could had atleast copypasted the ones from the WiiU version wtf
yeah, it made the challenges completely pointless too
>half the rewards are spirit snacks and other currency
>8 fricking FE characters
>not a single AW character
>not a single Golden Sun character
>not a single RH Character
you can never excuse this
Those three series are barely even relevant. Complain about other series already in the game having one fighter.
oh because EVERYONE knew what FE was when Melee came out, even for Brawl
also Xenoblade literally sold less than a million by the time they added Shulk but you can't have a guy from a game that sold 3 Million
Cry about it.
>no excuse confirm
looks like I win
What excuses? That one RPG series got in over some other RPG series that died 10-15 years ago?
These are Japanese games. FE is popular in Japan. You are not the target audience
FE wasn't popular anywhere prior to Smash 4
it's honestly ridiculous
>not a single AW character
Good
>not a single Golden Sun character
Good
>not a single RH character
What's RH?
I liked it. Combining Adventure mode with Events is a good thing. Platforming with Smash Bro's physics was always weird anyway,
The boss fights and ending sections are probably the best in the series. If only the entire mode was similar in quality
Give me a good reason for these not returning
>too similar
We now have 3 Battlefields and Smashville + Town and City
Honest answer? They can't recycle them as easy as other stages. Half of smash content is recycled.
honestly I prefer proper original Rainbow Road like in the Rosalina trailer
>Too much work to update visuals, I guess.
You think it might come back next game thanks to it being updated for the MK8 booster pass?
Woolly World is strange considering they could've just ported the Wii U version.
Hitler lost chud. Or won, I dont know. Video games.
>be in the mood for some Smash Run
>Game Card is dead
I guess no Smash Run for me then.
>Sonic is now based off himself in Frontiers
>He's now broken and people want his old camper self back
I can see it happening.
is bullshit how Kirby hasn't had a new character since Brawl despite being a long running top 8 Nintendo franchise, only behind Smash Bros
everybody important from kirby is already there. That's more than series like DK or f-zero can say
you can say that Mario only needs Mario
you can't tell the story of mario without luigi, bowser, and peach at a bare minimum
theres plenty of major mario games without Luigi though
the series is literally called super mario brothers. He can skip games but you can't explain Mario as a franchise without Luigi
no the franchise is called a Super Mario first and foremost
I'd argue that's more of a branding gimmick since Mario has gone solo more often even though the series literally starts as super mario bros, but whatever. Beyond semantics that still doesn't diminish Luigi's importance to the franchise as one of the main characters
