Fricking garbage and no Im not farming them. Im sure I would have loved it when it released but as an adult its just "ok I went from about 10 hours of watching my character run in a playthrough to 30 and I cant dodge bosses or enemies because I did something logical", I just deleted it. If you dont set up Macho and Komacho Not sure if it was them or someone else the merchant will injure his back while setting up his shop and sell worse stuff then he would normally.

no exactly correct he will not sell you gems which could be a problem the first 2-3 hours of game but its not like you cant continue to play and get into backrooms.funny how i managed to frick up 2 times in the same game... i spoke to the mayor too soon and i struggled to gather enough money for water but somehow i managed to finish the game just fine

The thing is with the fish. You got items from chests to get into backrooms before and now it throws in a regular item that you can buy almost everywhere and thats used to get in backrooms. Like what the frick?
well if i remember right it was quite expensive like 500?600?for one fish and sometimes you wouldnt even find good gems into the backrooms anyway so it wasnt broken or atleast in my personal experience it wasnt.

Completing the georama 100% of the second area rewards you with a laser gun. Laser guns are extremely powerful with high rate of fire and damage.
Save all of your attack items. You will need them in red seal floors where you're forced to fight armored and mechanical enemies with only Monica.
Health and defense upgrades can be found in the future but if you wait too long to collect them, items will overlap with each other resulting in missing a few boosts. Do about 2-3 floors, see if there's any items to be found in the future, then do georama stuff.

I still remember finding out hours later that a really good upgrade for your mech can only be made if you have a photo of one of the first bosses performing a really specific special attack and obviously after that fight you can never get it again
the fish merchant in queens literally tells you to do it that way. you have to mash like 12 fricking dialogue boxes to get him to stfu about it. game sucks also
are you talking about toan's charge attack (something you can't lock yourself out of) or the fact that the first shopkeeper injures himself and doesn't sell dran's feathers (a relatively common item you can get everywhere else) as a result? either way you're fricktarded, you dropped the game over something that literally doesn't matter
the mayor gives you shit you need until the merchant stall is open. also I have no idea what fricking essential technique you;re talking about, wasn't essential to me apparently
>see dark cloud thread >click prepared to post "Dark Cloud 3 fricking when" >first post I see is "I need a remake of this game"
zoomer heads on a spike
you will find new enemies with new behaviors and attack patterns, you will rebuild more cities, get more companions with their own weapon type and you will upgrade your weapon until you are the very best.if you like this loop then you will have fun in the complete game
It's a dungeon crawler, if you're into that sort of stuff you'll like this one. People compared it to Zelda back then (to be fair they did that with every fricking action adventure game) but this game feels a lot closer to something like Act Raiser.
What companions rotted in your party?
When I played this as a kid, I never used Ungaga, The moonanite, or Ruby.
Not using Ruby made me unable to beat the last boss.

I'm a frickin moron for not realizing Ruby was so OP back then.
fat frick magee isn't terrible if you spam his charge attack, he's invincible for a good long while when he does it
only downsides arte that he's probably gonna eat shit if the enemy doesn't die right away, and also that it eats a lot of durability if you hit several things at the same time and/or they block
yeah he had potential.he just need double the hp they gave him and were more durable hammers.a fat guy and flying bunny playthrough could be fun if they had a little more stats
Yeah I slept on Ruby for most of the game then for some reason I was using her in one of those character exclusive floors later in the game and I had a much stronger weapon for her and suddenly I was like oh wait this girl is a fricking murder machine.
>desert level
was it the one with port, where the dungeon is a sunken ship? thats exactly where I've dropped the game every single time I;ve played it, and I'm not sure why
shipwreck can filter people especially if they are behind in weapon upgrades,i remember as kid that pirates were tough because i didnt bother reading anything about how they work
cannons were especially hard for a kid,i had some issues with them even recently because they have good def/hit hard and attack you while also retreat
The ship is where I got filtered as a kid. Every time. The boss was just so much effort for me. I'm sure there was some way of doing it, but I didn't.
every boss works using one of the companions (to give a reason for them to exists lol)...usually the last one you acquired is the key so in shipwreck you have to switch to ruby and do something with her to beat the boss
No, the sunken ship was fine and I steamrolled with Xiao as usual until the boss. To beat her I bought like 40 bombs and fire crystals and dropped them all on her.
It's really amazing how I thought Xiao was useless as a kid all because I didn't find a bandit slingshot in a chest. She's got a bunch of shitty weapons early on but that one absolutely destroys everything
Beat this game for the first time last year after owning it since 2004 and considering it one of my favourite games of all time despite not beating it in all those 19 years. After I completed the Demon Shaft I was actually able to dig out my old memory card and find my original save file all the way back from 2004, where I would have been 6 years old at the time (I had many, many playthroughs of the game but never deleted my old save files) It was crazy to see the original version of Norune village I remember building all the way back in grade, I never even made it past Dran on that save funny enough. Anyway blogpost over, comfiest game ever god tier thread bless you OP for making it. Will probably do a Dark Cloud enhanced mod playthrough soon enough.
*People* who compare this game to Zelda drive me up the wall, the only thing they have in common is a green hat
Zelda is an adventure/ puzzle series
Dark Cloud is randomly generated grindan and town building
Yeah, obviously it's a huge improvement over Zelda.
Removing the dumb puzzle shit and focusing on a more gameplay-oriented experience is obviously a big part of what makes Dark Cloud a better game.
>infinitely better dungeons, better town building, better music, better weapon upgrading, infinitely better enemy variety, inventions, costumising the ridepod is the coolest thing ever if you are a kid etc
2 is better than 1 in every possible way
>Dark Cloud 2 >use nametag on any weapon and same it "Dark Cloud" >get endgame weapons as soon as you can cough up 10 medals
You didn't beat the game
I'm pretty sure it's 40 medals but still you are right it's game breaking, I only ever use it late game to get monica's final armband which is useless anyway
I had a love/hate relationship with it. The random nature of it sometimes set you up with some completely bullshit goals and the ball would sometimes catch the level geometry in weird ways. It was still so god damned fun and I felt like a million bucks when I landed a shot
>Finally manage to set up the shop >The mayor stops giving you freebies since he expects you to use it >Run out of cash relatively quickly so I can't afford weapon restores anymore >Enemies don't drop cash that often despite wearing your weapons out with ease
What am I doing wrong? I'm on floor 10 after unlocking Xiao and I'm already eating shit, I don't want to break any of my weapons.
>grind chests for shit to sell >to sell
Holy shit I can't believe I missed this, I thought selling wasn't even in the game, I'm an absolute buffoon. Thanks
ah yes my same errorthe major is killer.use your base dagger it will not break but reset everytime, stop using any consumable and get good at parrying or dodging get the soon you can every water upgrade on toan, get every +dur gem you can find/buy and upgrade your breakable sword until one repair powder last for a while, use xiao default weapon too in case you need to

There's a little dip in resources at that point in the game where you can feel the scarcity a little bit but very soon it will become absolutely trivial trust me.
>love the sword building mechanic >min-maxing it is incredibly tedious >non-min-maxing doesnt utilize the full potential of the system
I played 2 more recently and I'd kill an enemy then switch to the other protagonist to get the weapon xp on a weak weapon to build up then break down to put on the main weapon I'm building up. Is there any gameplay solution in a theoretical new game with that weapon build-up system to make it more fun?
>can technically play this on the PS5 >but it's interlaced and blurry as fricking shit despite the render resolution increase
sony you lazy fricks, the family can keep that shit i'm sticking to PCSX2
It enhances the graphics, adds side missions from NPC's, you're able to play as any character in the over world each with additional dialog with all the characters. I think there are some weapon refinements and tweaks you can do personally like no beeping when low health and stuff
I hated it in the first levels. They shouldn't have had the ball be able to fall into the water areas in the sewers. Later levels it seemed to make more sense.
I might be one of the few people who played the dark cloud first, then dark cloud 2 and ended up loving the second one even more. Both extremely charming games though. Especially with 2, it feels like no mechanics were half assed and had a lot of depth. It had stuff like fishkeeping, breeding, contests and racing, inventions, spheda and you could still complete the game without any of them (outside of story inventions). Maybe the only one that got the short stick were monster transformations but I never really got into it.
Visually the game was a masterpiece and the best cel-shaded game released on the PS2 with DQ8 close behind.
Yeah, monster transformations were completely half-assed. You needed a frickton of experience to level it up, but you got absolute shit for a return. It was a cool concept, but extremely simple and underpowered.
Missable scoops were also a huge mistake. If they were gonna tie them to boss fights, at least give us a boss rush mode to capture those missed shots later one.
My biggest butthurt was saving in the final chapter, but not realizing that doing so completely cut you off from time traveling to the future.
All that being said, I absolutely loved the game and wish for a similar game with more polish.
i have played this game for most of my damn life and 99% of that playtime was going through all the dungeons on a complete save (sans moon flower palace) just to grind monster levels to max. even i'm not sure why my autism wants that.
also fish.
>build up sword into tsukikage >feel amazing because this katana is so fricking clean looking >build up tsukikage into heaven's cloud >"frick yeah still looks awesome, but that's weird it can still go further, I thought there was only gonna be 4 tiers of weapons" >look up the next tier, it turns into the dark cloud >not a katana anymore, and kind of ugly to boot with that weird teeth guard >"well maybe it gets bett-" >see that dark cloud turns into 7th heaven, which is even uglier in design
I actually lost all motivation to keep playing.
Why couldn't they make the cool weapons the ultimate ones? Like, I got the tall hammer with Goro and that looks pretty good, why couldn't they all look good?
if you want to keep the desing you could fuse other weapons in it and its a decent solution, game will be harder and you might even have more fun than average plaer
I was thinking that when I eventually find the desire to go back to it, I'll just focus on doing damage with Goro and Toan can just look cool I guess.
I thought about going into a tree that doesn't end with 7th Heaven, but I've spent dozens of hours grinding everyone's weapons, fricking sucks to feel like all my time on Toan's weapon has been wasted as it'll only get to transfer 20% of it's stats into something else if I were to change. Also not crazy about how the Chronicle Sword or Sword of Zeus look either though. Sun Sword looks really nice, so its a shame that also just turns ugly with the Big Bang which just looks like an oversized dagger, and then Zeus just looks kinda dull to me.
Weapon building was a really fun part of my adventure with this game, it was exciting to see cool new weapons, but seeing how some final weapons look just pulls the rug out from under me.
Anon, this is a grindan game, autism is required to play it. Its why I couldn't make it far when I was a teenager, I didn't develop the right 'tism for it until a full decade later.
>20%
it should be between 40-50% of total stats if i remember right
>not crazy about how the Chronicle Sword or Sword of Zeus look either though
zeus its not bad but i get what you mean anon for me Lamb's Sword or Ama no Murakumo,i really like the additional attack and transformation on lamb's sword when it was near breaking.at this point yeah look every weapon on wiki and pick the one you like the most and just go with it in case you want to play again..its not like you need 200 attack to kill monsters anyway
Its so weird looking, i assume it has to be a reference to something but the wiki has got nothing. Maybe they just made a bunch of weapons and stat'ed them randomly
I'm at a town near the end of the game with a sheriff, clock tower or sum shit, i just don't remember what the frick i'm supposed to be doing, i played it like 5 years ago
i am glad to hear that because i really dig the pirate/bounty hunter theme and i really hope they went all in on it so you can wear more classic pirate costume at some point with parrot and funny wood legs probably not but one can dream
You can get a pirate themed outfit for the main character eventually. Not wooden leg or parrit but it has a bandana and one of the ultimate weapons looks a lot like a cutlass.
It's a great game if you enjoy long and sloggy dungeons, I had fun with it until the last 2, the story become really awful and I really wanted it to end
This is the thread to ask this. Anyone know a game that has the l5 feel but isn’t a classic. I been wanting to nostalgia jrpg and otherwise I’m stuck playing so til the end of time
Sorry for the shameless shilling, but if you guys like Dark Cloud, you will enjoy Dark Cloud enhanced. Basically an enhanced romhack/mod that adds alot of QOL improvements.
funnily enough, i randomly started the game not that long after this mod came out. just decided i wanted to play dark cloud again after like 15 years since my last playthrough, and i had no knowledge of this mod when i started; finished it up near the end of the month.
i'm not too huge on mods fricking with my nostalgia in certain ways though, as i consider the jank part of the charm of the game
>This program works in the background as you play your LEGAL RIPPED Copy on PCSX2. It does NOT permanently alter the game at all as this mod PC program works in real time and once closed everything reverts to normal.
neat. thanks. I was worried I;d have to start the game over, but if thats the way it works it seems like itd be fine
I have been having recurring dreams of this game of late. Seems we all played it when we were kids and had difficulties depending on how old we were at the the time
I bought this game on PS2 for $20 from Sam's club when i was a kid simply because the main character on the cover looked like link. I thought it would play like zelda. Didn't really get into it til another 15 years later
that's a good game

you will find new enemies with new behaviors and attack patterns, you will rebuild more cities, get more companions with their own weapon type and you will upgrade your weapon until you are the very best.if you like this loop then you will have fun in the complete game
It's a dungeon crawler, if you're into that sort of stuff you'll like this one. People compared it to Zelda back then (to be fair they did that with every fricking action adventure game) but this game feels a lot closer to something like Act Raiser.
HD remaster when?
When was the last time Snoy even acknowledged Dark Cloud?
I'd be surprised if we even get a port.
What companions rotted in your party?
When I played this as a kid, I never used Ungaga, The moonanite, or Ruby.
Not using Ruby made me unable to beat the last boss.
Replayed it recently and only used Toan, Xiao and Ruby.
I'm a frickin moron for not realizing Ruby was so OP back then.
Toan and Ruby are the only worthwhile combat characters. Everyone else is just a waste of time.
Hell in the sequel you never need to use Monica outside of one boss fight and one sidequest. There's items you can buy that bypass sealed floors.
fat frick magee isn't terrible if you spam his charge attack, he's invincible for a good long while when he does it
only downsides arte that he's probably gonna eat shit if the enemy doesn't die right away, and also that it eats a lot of durability if you hit several things at the same time and/or they block
yeah he had potential.he just need double the hp they gave him and were more durable hammers.a fat guy and flying bunny playthrough could be fun if they had a little more stats
Yeah I slept on Ruby for most of the game then for some reason I was using her in one of those character exclusive floors later in the game and I had a much stronger weapon for her and suddenly I was like oh wait this girl is a fricking murder machine.
I should really go and play these again someday, furthest I got was the desert level where I got turned off by a character lock floor
>desert level
was it the one with port, where the dungeon is a sunken ship? thats exactly where I've dropped the game every single time I;ve played it, and I'm not sure why
Desert is after the port town
shipwreck can filter people especially if they are behind in weapon upgrades,i remember as kid that pirates were tough because i didnt bother reading anything about how they work
The ship is where I got filtered as a kid. Every time. The boss was just so much effort for me. I'm sure there was some way of doing it, but I didn't.
that might be it, not from difficulty per se, but probably tedium in fighting tougher enemies
cannons were especially hard for a kid,i had some issues with them even recently because they have good def/hit hard and attack you while also retreat
every boss works using one of the companions (to give a reason for them to exists lol)...usually the last one you acquired is the key so in shipwreck you have to switch to ruby and do something with her to beat the boss
I hate the cannons. Sometimes they just gatling gun my ass down. Feels like their attack cooldown just switches from 5 seconds to 1 second on a whim.
the only way i found to handle them is to just force them in a corner possibly near a column so you can quickly hide when they are about to shoot.
She's got a bunch of shitty weapons early on but that one absolutely destroys everything
we can never go back.
A lot of the music in this game sounds like it'd be in harvest moon AWL:
Why is this pitched up? It doesn't sound like that in game.
I know its a meme, but this game is unironically comfy
It's pretty neat to look back at old saves from that long ago. Recognizing your original village layout in distant memory is cool.
It's weird that somebody else perfected the Zelda formula so soon after Ocarina of Time's release.
*People* who compare this game to Zelda drive me up the wall, the only thing they have in common is a green hat
Zelda is an adventure/ puzzle series
Dark Cloud is randomly generated grindan and town building
cmon anon cut them some slack opening doors with a specific companion is a complex puzzle for current generation
Yeah, obviously it's a huge improvement over Zelda.
Removing the dumb puzzle shit and focusing on a more gameplay-oriented experience is obviously a big part of what makes Dark Cloud a better game.
you're a fricking moron
they're barely related and 2 is a better game overall
>worse story, worse characters, worse towns building, worse weapons upgrading
>but mini games
eh..
>worse story, worse characters, worse towns building, worse weapons upgrading
But enough about Dark Cloud 1
>but enough about x
Always despised this sort of passive aggressive feminine posting
>seethes at a joke
now THATS feminine
>infinitely better dungeons, better town building, better music, better weapon upgrading, infinitely better enemy variety, inventions, costumising the ridepod is the coolest thing ever if you are a kid etc
2 is better than 1 in every possible way
I'm pretty sure it's 40 medals but still you are right it's game breaking, I only ever use it late game to get monica's final armband which is useless anyway
I wouldn't recommend, but you are probably a zoom baby, so I guess
*shudder* she was so hot
anon she's only a kitten
that's bestiality
those spats made me think some pretty impure things
>call is Dark Cloud
>but he's not Cloud
>he's Zelda
My mom bought the game precisely because she thought it was a Zelda game. I only played Dark Cloud 2, but loved the hell out of it.
Real question did you like golf or not
I had a love/hate relationship with it. The random nature of it sometimes set you up with some completely bullshit goals and the ball would sometimes catch the level geometry in weird ways. It was still so god damned fun and I felt like a million bucks when I landed a shot
Yeah I felt the bullshit nature of it made it rewarding. I’m not into bdsm but understand why kek
With Level-5 trying to make a proper comeback, what are the odds they give this another shot?
Sony probably own the rights and they hate japanese games now
Dark FRICKING Cloud
No one cares about town building.
i do
its the most memorable thing about this game
>Finally manage to set up the shop
>The mayor stops giving you freebies since he expects you to use it
>Run out of cash relatively quickly so I can't afford weapon restores anymore
>Enemies don't drop cash that often despite wearing your weapons out with ease
What am I doing wrong? I'm on floor 10 after unlocking Xiao and I'm already eating shit, I don't want to break any of my weapons.
grind chests for shit to sell or those floortiles
>grind chests for shit to sell
>to sell
Holy shit I can't believe I missed this, I thought selling wasn't even in the game, I'm an absolute buffoon. Thanks
Alright
ah yes my same errorthe major is killer.use your base dagger it will not break but reset everytime, stop using any consumable and get good at parrying or dodging get the soon you can every water upgrade on toan, get every +dur gem you can find/buy and upgrade your breakable sword until one repair powder last for a while, use xiao default weapon too in case you need to
Huh, I recently played some Dark Cloud and never found myself in need of money.
I played with the Enhanced Mod so maybe they changed the drop rates.
>i played with a mod and the game was easier
yeah, no shit, moron.
>using overhaul mods in a first playthrough
Making money is easy though? Just sell stuffs
There's a little dip in resources at that point in the game where you can feel the scarcity a little bit but very soon it will become absolutely trivial trust me.
Sell shit and go tight on other resources to get past that. I remember that point, it's the only point scarcity matters
Why does that look like discount Link?
>love the sword building mechanic
>min-maxing it is incredibly tedious
>non-min-maxing doesnt utilize the full potential of the system
I played 2 more recently and I'd kill an enemy then switch to the other protagonist to get the weapon xp on a weak weapon to build up then break down to put on the main weapon I'm building up. Is there any gameplay solution in a theoretical new game with that weapon build-up system to make it more fun?
>can technically play this on the PS5
>but it's interlaced and blurry as fricking shit despite the render resolution increase
sony you lazy fricks, the family can keep that shit i'm sticking to PCSX2
Plus the Enhanced Edition mod makes the game 10 times better
What does it even do?
It enhances the graphics, adds side missions from NPC's, you're able to play as any character in the over world each with additional dialog with all the characters. I think there are some weapon refinements and tweaks you can do personally like no beeping when low health and stuff
Link to mod?
are you sure its not ur tv? mine looked perfect
>Play 2
>Nooooo you must kill this specific enemy from ch5 onward to keep upgrading your weapons!
The golf mini game in dark cloud 2 had no right being so fun
it wasn't
the rng was awful especially in dungeons with holes on the room edges
I hated it in the first levels. They shouldn't have had the ball be able to fall into the water areas in the sewers. Later levels it seemed to make more sense.
Do I want to replay Chronicle 100% again?
Try it with a Randomizer mod. You can get some good stuff to carry you through the game faster
I have such fond memories playing it when young that I don’t want to play them now. Kinda like brave fencer musashi.
So like most level 5 mechanics. I loved their games regardless
i have played this game for most of my damn life and 99% of that playtime was going through all the dungeons on a complete save (sans moon flower palace) just to grind monster levels to max. even i'm not sure why my autism wants that.
also fish.
>build up sword into tsukikage
>feel amazing because this katana is so fricking clean looking
>build up tsukikage into heaven's cloud
>"frick yeah still looks awesome, but that's weird it can still go further, I thought there was only gonna be 4 tiers of weapons"
>look up the next tier, it turns into the dark cloud
>not a katana anymore, and kind of ugly to boot with that weird teeth guard
>"well maybe it gets bett-"
>see that dark cloud turns into 7th heaven, which is even uglier in design
I actually lost all motivation to keep playing.
How’s autism treating you
Why couldn't they make the cool weapons the ultimate ones? Like, I got the tall hammer with Goro and that looks pretty good, why couldn't they all look good?
I don’t remember but wasn’t that a pointless grind? You didn’t need much to beat the game and most people don’t grind
if you want to keep the desing you could fuse other weapons in it and its a decent solution, game will be harder and you might even have more fun than average plaer
I was joking about the autism but god damn kek
7th heaven looks dope atleast its not the windmill sword
>only sword with 500 max atk
why
Its so weird looking, i assume it has to be a reference to something but the wiki has got nothing. Maybe they just made a bunch of weapons and stat'ed them randomly
some weapon designs are so weird and funny like frozen tuna for the hammer fatso
Can someone help me with dark chronicle 2?
I'm at a town near the end of the game with a sheriff, clock tower or sum shit, i just don't remember what the frick i'm supposed to be doing, i played it like 5 years ago
Why you skip dialogues?
They made a Dark Chronicle 2?
Its a shame what Level 5 became.
Ship is when the game become really easy, the ice and fish trick is too good, but there was 1 map in the forest that was as good with werewolves
this game sucked, I know everyone here praises it as some underrated kino but in reality it's just bad
I’m here because dark cloud 2 was fun as frick
Filtered
yepp, the game is pure ass fueled by nostalgia.
I remember the dungeons being empty and badly designed
>Dark Cloud 2
>use nametag on any weapon and same it "Dark Cloud"
>get endgame weapons as soon as you can cough up 10 medals
You didn't beat the game
I miss when level 5 had soul
rogue galaxy is next on my list after i beat dc2.the weird unlockying grid got me interested few years ago
I remember when it came out and really enjoyed it
i am glad to hear that because i really dig the pirate/bounty hunter theme and i really hope they went all in on it so you can wear more classic pirate costume at some point with parrot and funny wood legs probably not but one can dream
You can get a pirate themed outfit for the main character eventually. Not wooden leg or parrit but it has a bandana and one of the ultimate weapons looks a lot like a cutlass.
good enough! thank you anon
No problem. Here's what it looks like if you're curious.
reminds me a lot of dq8's protagonist so i am genuinely happy
yeah it instantly became my main outfit after getting it
It's a great game if you enjoy long and sloggy dungeons, I had fun with it until the last 2, the story become really awful and I really wanted it to end
Loved Rogue Galaxy but my main complaint with it would be that the combat devolved into "spam your specials until the enemies are dead".
I can't think of anything more soulful than Yokai Watch 2.
This is the thread to ask this. Anyone know a game that has the l5 feel but isn’t a classic. I been wanting to nostalgia jrpg and otherwise I’m stuck playing so til the end of time
rouge galaxy
I can understand if you are esl but that is a classic and I’ve already played it
ok kys
Deeply emotional and wholesome afternoon cuddling with Xiao without any explicit sexual acts
the noises she makes when jumping across gaps are cute
>two dark cloud threads within a few days of each other
sometimes you're alright Ganker
Also drakengard threads too
Sorry for the shameless shilling, but if you guys like Dark Cloud, you will enjoy Dark Cloud enhanced.
I'm not sure if it works with a save in progress, but there's nothing wrong with trying.
Shilling is ok as long as it's something cool like this
It had a really cool soundtrack. The whole thing gives me the vibes of morrowind if it was Japanese
i think thread is over,it was nice to talk about videogames for once.
Its nice and all but at he end of the day I prefer azure dreams for dungeon crawling and town building.
Gof I want more games like them
