It's great and has some of the best weapons and enemies in the series. Special mention to the Demon's Scar r1 -> Black flame combos as a great weapon, and the lothric knight for being such a cool enemy. However, it greatly suffers from "redundant shitty weapons". For example, most straight swords are straight up inferior to the longsword, which is inferior to the gotthards and lothric knight sword. Similar to many greatswords and ultra greatswords.

Why did fromsoft forget how to make unique armor after dark souls 2?
    >bloodborne - everyone wears palette-swapped coats
    >dark souls 3 - everything is rusted and decaying and dented and worn and melted
    >sekiro - no armor at all
    >elden ring - everything is rusted and decaying and dented and worn and melted also we want the final fantasy audience

ds2 was also the last game to have armor upgrading. If you get butthurt by ds2, then reminder that ds1 had armor upgrading and everyone loved that game.

Elden ring had some great armor but you couldn‘t have male hex/magic outfits. That was annoying as hell.

      >Playing Dark Souls 3
      >Begin Ashes of Ariandel
      >Suddenly the snowy ground collapses and I find myself with the way back cutoff
      >Nothing but the wind howling, snow and trees.
      >Suddenly a pack of wolves slowly approaches, growling
      >Quickly put away the shield to get an off-hand crossbow
      >Start fighting the them using a dagger, quickstep and taking shots when they stop after charging
None of the older games feel like they put you enough into situations where you have to adapt and use tools as the latest ones. Having the crutch of really exploitable backstabd and enemies and constantly having to design encounters around arbitrary spacing restrictions and setpieces gets old so I appreciate Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring a lot for adding variety and spice to fighting mobs

Also I love how the game is so inspired by Demon's Souls. It even brought back Crescent Upgrade in the form of Simple Infusion and Blessed Upgrade with Blessed Infusion

I forget how piss-filtered this game is compared to all the others.

I like it, it gives it a cohesive aesthetics, even though at some points throughout the game the areas are too rushed.
It's clear the game was a lot more ambitious and corners were cut so it doesn't always work, but when it does it looks more distinctive and unique compared to Dark Souls 1 and 2 aesthetics and color grading. It reminds me a lot of Demon's Souls, which also had a similar filter and more muted color palette.

It is by far the best in the triology. One is decent, two is the biggest pile of shit in video game history and 3 is very good cause it’s the closest to the actual masterpiece: bloodborne

I'm not a huge fan of DS3, but that wolfpack fight was one of the highlights. They filtered me for a few tries, until I ran past them, got to the canyon beyond them, and was able to fight them a few at a time there.

        >>No other game let you switch weapons
No other game incentivizes you to
setpieces while naming an encounter built around a setpiece
It's a criticism to static setpieces where enemies are mostly static and either ambush you or slowly walk/chase you because you aggroed them. Dark Souls 3 increased the variety of quality of mobs and encounters. You have stuff like enemies between jars that can be homing traps if you break them, more use of casters, hordes of invisible enemies, hordes of constantly respawning zombies, suicide bombers, areas designed with arenas for certain mob encounters, very fast and aggressive enemies that you can poisebreak easily,...
Comparing Dark Souls 1 and 2 dogs to Dark Souls 3 dogs for example, the former have iframe dodges, the latter has the behaviour of an hunting pack

          >DS3 dogs behave like a hunting pack
You mean the setpiece DLC wolves and not the actual dogs right, cause the standard dogs are pretty much the same. 3 fans are on some Kojima creatividad shit since just about everything you've listed is in the previous games.

i really enjoyed some of the set pieces or however you would call it. like when you first emerge from that cave into that whimsical snowy ghostly city place.

also the OST was awesome as always. but masterpiece? i don't think i replayed it once. whereas i replayed DS1 many, many times. and replayed elden ring once or twice.

The base game is fricking meh outside of a handful of moments (Abyss Watchers, Soul of Cinder, Nameless King, Twin Princes, maybe a couple others), but the Ringed City DLC is the absolute height of the franchise. Gael is one of the best bosses in gaming history and the entire journey from start to finish is fricking incredible in terms of breadth and atmosphere. You begin by taking an impossibly long drop that you miraculously survive and are almost immediately assaulted by some flying eldritch horror that you have no choice but to flee from into the unknown. From there, you're attacked by enemies that are pure nightmare fuel, setting the tone for what's to come and letting you know that you've just stepped into something dark and ominous even for a Souls game. Moments like the giants summoning hundreds of ghost archers and the Chameleon spell turning you into a Humanity sprite in the swamp just ooze soul and complexity. If DS3 had been like the Ringed City all the way through, it would probably be the best game ever made.

Dark Souls 3 relies too much on member berries that it detracts what makes it good. Fine game but relies heavily on nostalgia baiting and DaS references.

    a masterpiece how?
storywise it is completely dependent on references to older games, and that starts bleeding into enemy/boss designs. What bosses are even memorable from it?
None of the 4 main ones for sure, just like fricking DS2 ironically

It always amazes me that seemingly no matter who you talk to, everyone will have a different opinion on the souls series and what games are good.
