Because jap tier lists are moronicly contrarian and mainly based on how good the best local player who plays each character is. They have had Zangief being an upper to mid tier character in SF5 since it's inception simply because Itabashi is one of the best players in Japan, and Rolento, Able, Rose, and Elena as mid or lower tier in USF4 because no one super notable in Japan plays them. If Daigo woke up tomorrow and decided to main Cammy in ST she'd suddenly be an upper mid character.
Petshop literally breaks the game, and is usually just flat banned in tourneys because of it.
Always thought it was cool Capcom got Araki-sensei to illustrate Midler for the game. In the original comic at the time, she fought everyone at a long distance, and no one saw the character, until one panel at the end where you only see her dead and it was only her legs. That was the only image of the character until the game. The Capcom artists/designers of the day idolized his art and commissioned him to finish designing the character for their game.
The Jap scene considers Kakyoin more OP than Petshop, fyi
I always thought it was topped by JoJo and Dio, followed up by Midler. Then again, it wasn't really competitive amongst my friends playing it.
Popular for the cool people who then got into the manga and read piss yellow scans and Duwang. then the anime happened and all the homosexuals that brought in who are just in it for the memes.
I'm so old, I remember when the manga was new, before all the pages yellowed. I swear, the author must be in competition with the guy who does the Golgo 13 manga, and the Kochikame artist to see who can outlive the other and draw the longest running manga series. I do think it is cool that so many people like Jojo's now, makes me think "wow, where were all these cute Jojo's cosplayers when I was young, oh yeah, kindergarten". The characters definitely were influences on some of my favorite Street Fighter characters like Juri Han.
I've played both and Darkstalkers is better for me. JoJo's links are too tight for me. You have to practice for at least 10 hours to even do Jotaro's BnB. Shit's moronic. I got filtered. Darkstalkers is easier.

The more I have learned about Darkstalkers process and how it was more driven by the USA branch at Capcom and how they pretty much fricked up their own marketing for it in the US.
It made me realize that Red Earth did the monster shit a whole lot better.
They're not even comparable. Darkstalkers was designed as a competitive fighting hame with a horror Influece while Red Earth was designed as a one player campaign influenced by high fantasy.
Of course the presentation is better. Same Capcom quality but on next gen hardware. It is an entirely different kind of game though and is not the same aesthetic at all.
I really don't get this enmity people keep trying to push between different Capcom fighting games. They were all made by the same studio and all intimately related to each other.
darkstalkers if he gay
>Petshop player kills your competitive scene
Eh, nothing personal, kid.

He's banned from tournaments. Ezpz
What If Ikki tousen had beat ‘em up CPS-3 games?

It's also the reason Jojo became popular

What about OVA? I watched it first
Probably you're part of the cool ones.
Plays nothing like it

Are people this moronic just the standard on /vr/ now?
I like both games, I just feel the presentation with Red Earth is a lot better.

a fricking animal
More like Vsav if he even more anime.
And no, I don't mean aesthetics, I'm talking about anime fighter gameplay.
What the frick is that?
an Osman ripoff?
How described it: Might need N64 port.

The quintessential meme game.
