It's supposed to be a reality check for the people who think there's a kill switch that will break Steam at midnight.
They should still upgrade to Windows 10 or switch to Linux
Mint
eventually.
It just seems worse now that it's anybody's guess when it will stop working. A hypothetical worst case would be it ends January 2nd. 7 users have no idea now.
>software will stop working on 15 year old operating system >click agree if you agree >software stops working on 15 year old operating system >"I DIDN'T AGREE TO THIS"
the amount of people that whine about shit companies do while they clearly stated that by shopping at/joining their shit you agree to their actions is insanely moronic.
Like these fricking morons saying being banned on twitter is restricting their freedom of speech even though they reserve the right to ban you if you are a fricking idiot.
Not a win7gay but the point is that that shit shouldn't even be a thing in the first place. Whether or not you agreed to something unreasonable is kind of irrelevant.
Shitty EULAs and TOSes are a separate issue. Valve is just saying that they won't develop or fix issues for the steam client on Win7 anymore. Should they also be forced to develop and support, for example, Windows XP until the end of time? You have to draw a line at some point, and it isn't like Valve is going to actively block Windows 7, they're just informing you that they aren't going to QA or fix issues for the steam client on that specific OS anymore.
>Should they also be forced to develop and support, for example, Windows XP until the end of time?
They could just open up their API, like Epic Games Store, so people can make their own Steam launchers, like Heroic Luncher for Epic games.
>Should they also be forced to develop and support, for example, Windows XP until the end of time?
Forced? No. But it would be a good decision. People would know they are dependable. Now we know they're not.
Yeah I was just referring to the "whining when you agree to the actions that companies do." Valve had to drop support for a 15 year old OS at some point.
>israeli licensing agreements that go against the founding spirit of private property ownership
Shut the frick up, israelite. This country started going to hell when we entertained you parasites.
The most amusing part to me is that the thirdies with 12 year old computers complaining about this have hardware that could easily run their games with Linux + Proton, and most of them would probably work better.
>Why does Valve support Linux? It's only 2% of users! They should drop Linux support to save money! >Wait, they're dropping support for my Windows version with less than 1% of users? NOOOOO IT'S NOT FAIR
lel
Valve doesn't need to "support" Windows 7. They only have to not actively sabotage its users.
They do support GNU/Linux (indirectly, by funding a company that works on Wine) and this is a long term interest, to make it harder for their competitor, Microsoft, to sabotage them.
>Valve doesn't need to "support" Windows 7. They only have to not actively sabotage its users.
Then you should be fine with the current situation, because there is no active sabotage. Valve simply will not support Windows 7 (which they don't "need" to do according to your own post), and in fact will not actively do anything, because Windows 7 clients simply won't get updates. See
https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/4784-4F2B-1321-800A >"... existing Steam Client installations on these operating systems will no longer receive updates of any kind including security updates. It is possible that that webpage is true, but it's also possible the message they push to all Windows 7 users is true. We will have to see. But there is no reason why Steam wouldn't just keep working on Windows 7 for as long as it works on Windows 11, so there is also no reason to tell people it will stop working, unless they are planning to change something.
>But there is no reason why Steam wouldn't just keep working on Windows 7 for as long as it works on Windows 11
There is a reason though. If something eventually changes on the backend in a way which requires a client update for continued functionality, then Windows 7 clients won't get that update.
Nothing will happen and entire year of shitposting was for nothing. Then one day, steam will just stop working on Win 7 without any notification once Chrome backend gets updated to a version that is not supported on Win 7.
>Steam will stop running on Windows 7 in 0 days
But when you click on it they just say they will stop supporting it. I wonder if they picked such an alarmist announcement on purpose to scare all tech-illiterates into upgrading to Win 10
> alarmist announcement on purpose to scare all tech-illiterates into upgrading to Win 10
They did, it is worded as though Steam will literally stop running on that day. >((Will)) stop (running)
The truer question is whats with Steam and its rampant DRM, its so awful and annoying.
You can keep Windows 7 and steam, but you will not receive any updates and support from Steam. You would be responsible for something happening to you, not Valve/Steam cuz they informed you about this at least two years in advance. Have fun being hacked.
I have two computers, one with win 7 and the other with 10 and I'm willing to upgrade it to 11 or 12 or whatever new shit comes out for it but I will never 'upgrade' the one with 7
Yes: Nostalgia, emulation, browsing the internet while I do work from my newer computer. I use Mouse Without Borders to use the same mouse/keyboard between both computers and it works surprisingly well
They're too stubborn to update and too lazy to customize 10 with stuff like OpenShell. W7 is factually better than 10, but it's just not worth the hassle anymore.
Windows 7 is better than Windows 10, but it isn't good, it's just less shit. Once it's no longer able to run Steam it won't be less shit, it will be more shit.

9/11 for third worlders
Even the third worlders are updated lol, its only autists clinging to these old systems.
Most of the third worlders are on 11 now though

Defend this.

Repaving the roads doesn't mean I can't drive on them with old tires.

what does that have to do with anything? You click agree, you abide by the rules or shut the frick up.
libertarianism really is a moronic ideology

What the frick... it's not fair.
so did you stop buying games after XP support ended?
>0.6% of steam users

This whole debacle applies to like 12 people on earth who are technologically moronic, and every last one of those 12 morons posts on Ganker daily

Linux is also shit, so I will not install it.

ok that makes sense
You changed my mind.
Could we just download new client and swap it's chromium version with one compatible with Windows 7?
Maybe and/or probably not
I am a neet
I am a neet
I am a neet
& I regret it
I exited neetdom earlier this year and it's only a mild improvement

Do people think valve is just going to upload a kill switch to brick steam if it's running on an older operating system?

Time to install Linux bros
Let's go onii-chan, it's time
Get away from me you little prostitute.
Not so fast, chud

now what? huh? what are you gonna now?
gonna keep playing on win 7
Same here. We'll be in the wreckage together brother
Can't wrap my head around the fact that there are people using Windows 7 still
It's not a hard concept. It was the last good Windows and Linux still doesn't have its shit together.
I have two computers, one with win 7 and the other with 10 and I'm willing to upgrade it to 11 or 12 or whatever new shit comes out for it but I will never 'upgrade' the one with 7

Just curious

Wait, is the old SteamOS still supported? Does it not have old af packages?
Why not just switch to Linux?
