Looking the same and looking bad are completely different though. While the original obviously still holds up to an insane degree, there isn't anything wrong with a fresh coat of paint and some extra content.

The tension on Dead Space stopped after the fourth chapter when you face the Brute. After this, the game let itself go and push you against more foes, more bombastic events (As the Brute tearing everything, the Valor crashing into the Ishimura, the run and gun section on Aegis VII, the battle vs the biomass in the "garden", the rail shooter section etc..).
You do remember that one of the primary complaints about 3 was that basically ditched the horror elements in lieu of a full-on action game, right? It's well within reason to be worried they'll do the same here. They were never happy with Dead Space being a kino horror game.

I know the story of how DS3 was developed and how EA fricked this up because RE5 sold well enough and they should include co-op etc..

In a trailer, where, of course, they would show action (because, let's be clear, no-one would be hype for a 2 min trailer of Isaac walking through doors and hearing things runnings in the vent) you're worried that they would turn the game around ? Clearly no sign of coop, no "We'll add a multiplayer part to the game" or even a single sign of a Necro holding a pulse rifle.
I understand that people are worried after the massive frick up of DS3 but I didn't read "We want to modernize the gameplay of the game".

Because you trust marketing more than you trust a relentless, time-honored tradition of EA being a dogshit publisher. EA made it more than apparent that they don't care about my money when they shoehorned MTX into Dead Space 2. And then again when they made DS3 an action shooter. And then again when they took the writhing corpse of Visceral, stuffed into a car and drove it into one of my other favorite franchises.
They told me to stop giving them money and I am happy to oblige them.
DS3 is a great point, I'm okay with this. MTX in DS2 never bothered me because it was just a coat of paint and it didn't disrupt the game at all (not like DS3 did).
Also, yeah, EA is bad, we all know that, but right now, I'm not trusting EA, but Motive who made all the move to prove that they want faithfulness to be the heart of the game.
Also, I don't have money in EA, don't care if you buy it or not. It's legit to have trust issue with EA, I agree with a passion, but the complete edition of ME was allright, It takes two and Star Wars Squadron also were ok in my book.
If they do the same thing with DS Remake (aka let the devs do their shit, and just harvest money) it's a win-win situation.

I loved the OG game but see no reason to play this remake as its hardly any different. Its not like the difference between RE2 and RE2 remake and RE4 and RE4 remake. Its not even like RE1 and RE1 remake. Its just seems very pointless.

Details on the Necros are great. The skin texture and the "ripped" effect on it is quite nice.
But it really looks like the Last of Us Remake. Great jump in terms of details, textures etc.. But the gameplay and story won't move (except for Isaac in ZeroG/some characters from the audiolog being present in the Ishimura while you're here)

Open horror games have worse pacing by default. Almost every good horror game is linear because the developers have more control over the player experience that way.
We don't have too many open horror games but I think SCP Containment Breach and nu-Prey did it well. The absolutely feeling of being alone in a huge place with full of monsters. They can make it work. Just let's say Necros would attack randomly (those qurantines were super cool in the og one) and by time they would be stronger, so forcing the player to go forward would be scary.

Puzzles, very limited ammo and having to figure out proper pathing to make the most use out of your resources and limited inventory, and having to find weapons and upgrades instead of buying them. RE2Remake did that very well.
Unfortunately it's still going to be an action horror game, and those benefit much more from linear levels. Open world and sidequests sounds like useless padding that will ruin the pace.

The original DS is so immersive specifically and partially because Isaac is silent. To this day I have never thought it's awkward or whatever else homosexuals say it is. They obviously could have voiced him but chose not to do it for a reason.

fun fact: the reason they stop moving around after enough damage is not because you killed them (since they are already dead) but because the signal reanimating them deems them useless for any further attack so it drops the connection pretty much.

It made him seem standoffish and terrified during the game and added a veil of mystery as to his mental state and perception of events (such as did he feel that Nicole was dead) It added tension when it was almost time to try an escape but he hadn't found Nicole and the player didn't know if he would leave without proof of her death or do something stupid like stay behind. I wanted to see Issac safe because he seemed like an average Joe that was in over his head.

My favorite thing about it was just the atmosphere of isolation it provided. But you're really just this standard issue moron in a metal suit getting dragged through hell, literally with nobody to hear you scream.

Don't have much time to elaborate right now, but I prefer 2 and its dialogue. Horror tends to work better when the characters are more human and outwardly fearful. It makes you worry about their well being more.
This is the same reason why women tend to be better horror protags. They are more vulnerable, thus the audience is more concerned for their survival. When you have someone like Isaac, who looks like a cool deep sea killing machine, some of the fear can be lost due to how badass he is. For example, putting doomguy in the dead space scenario would instantly ruin the tension because we know what kind of guy he is.

Dead space is one of my favorite games ever, and i dont see a reason to hate this to be honest. While i agree dead space doesnt really need a remake, hey, if they can fix the awful aiming from the og and, as they have said apparently, make the ishimura a big mansion ("open world") rather than just stages, i think it is a good upgrade.
As for isaac clarke voice acting, i just hope he doesnt talk like another marvel character throwing jokes and talking when he shouldnt and shit, but just a real human being being trapped in a big ass scary ship. From the trailer i think he's fine.
Definitely a big upgrade with the lightning too, people really need to go replay dead space to see that while the lightning in some places are pretty good, not every part of the game looks as polished.
The trailer was good. My only complaint would be the guy hitting the head in the hallway scene. The new model just dont nail the scene. It looks like a generic patient zero. They can still change that though. The old one was better because his rig was empty and when you got a better look.. he was completely deformed with organs falling into the ground, it was a miracle he was even alive at that point. There was a lot of blood in the wall too and with the poor light, it made it all better. I also saw some other scenes, and while they are quite good. It would be better if they give more damage and blood look for the models (for example the woman in the med room and the miner in that room, they look way to healthy and clean). Other than that, its all good.

Issacs voice acting seems pretty good, glad they brought back the guy from 2 and 3. Doesn't seem like they'll be having him talking non stop for no reason, but we'll see how well it works out once the game is released.

It could work. The issue with doing a DS game where you’re fighting back an invasion of Earth is that you run the risk of turning the game into a TPS rather than a horror game (which 3 already did in a sense).
I know what i'll say will be fricked up, but would it work with a system like Last of Us ? With low ammo, or just enough to survive, avoid Necros if possible. It could work with gameplay, but the pacing/story and gameplay difference would not work in line with the other game.
And in the other case of "We need to get out of Earth" could work too, like ol' Dead Space 1 or 2, but with a urban type scenario. But that's just plain ripoff of DS2.

Keeping a pistol up close like that actually makes sense when the only sights it has is a laser sight. It's less effort to keep it stable there, especially since a plasma cutter looks much heavier than a normal pistol. Habits based around weapons also aren't in Isaac's background, he's a random engineer.
But most importantly, the tight stance will block less of the player's view of threats to the left of the point of aim.
It's okay, DS1 doesn't hold up graphics wise and the 30 FPS only was making it the most logical for a remake.
As for Isaac talking, I think it's an option you can choose in the settings so I don't really give a shit. From what I heard it's not going to be long winded monologues, but him commenting on things, unnecessary but it'll be nice to hear Gunner lines, plus it's nice to see Deadspace get popular again.

It looks "amazing" for taking pretty screenshots. From what I see it lacks the rugged, run down aesthetic of the original completely. And that stasis orb visual looks like dogshit, literally all 3 previous games looked better in that sense. Necromorph skin also looks kind of worse tbh.
Too little footage to actually tell anything for sure, but the biggest crime is re-doing all the voice acting. The VAs and the sound design itself in DS was fantastic, it feels natural and still holds up to this day.

ive got a zoomie cousin who has never played dead space who is all hyped for this. i told him he can just install and play the original release right now. in 4k with your brightness and contrast tunes correctly, the game is still fantastic. he obviously wasnt interested in this because zoomer morons always need the "new" thing, even if it isnt necessarily better.
to me, it looks like some little details are off. in the original he raises the plasma cutter up to his eyes and tilts his head a little to aim. he doesnt raise it much in the new one. they altered the suit a little which is borderline criminal because of how iconic that suit is, and i think its too shiny. im actually okay with Gunner coming back to record voice lines because i think he is really good voice actor, the inherent problem with that is we now know they had to re-write stuff, and THAT is what is really scary.

the writing was the issue with the third game. other than the weapon crafting not being well-balanced and the suits being the worst in the series and...well the third game had a lot of issues, but to me the writing was the most egregious.
they ruined every character, Ellie became annoying, Isaac became a literal simp who apologized for blasting Ellies boyfriends face off, despite the fact he was literally defending his own life. Isaac and Ellie trying to kiss while the entire map is crumbling around them.
to me, the worst part of the third game was when they tried to do the false death scene for ellie. because the thing is...nobody believed it. there wasnt enough gravity given to the situation for anybody with a brain to believe that she was going to die, despite the fact that she was literally just trapped in a situation where there was no escape.
anyway...my point is that stupid writing could really fricking tank this thing. im willing to give it a shot but what is annoying is that any real criticism will be dismissed because people will say youre just trying to be contrarian and have "nostalgia goggles" or whatever.

After this, the game let itself go and push you against more foes, more bombastic events (As the Brute tearing everything, the Valor crashing into the Ishimura, the run and gun section on Aegis VII, the battle vs the biomass in the "garden", the rail shooter section etc..).

DS3 is a great point, I'm okay with this. MTX in DS2 never bothered me because it was just a coat of paint and it didn't disrupt the game at all (not like DS3 did).

Details on the Necros are great. The skin texture and the "ripped" effect on it is quite nice.

Open horror games have worse pacing by default. Almost every good horror game is linear because the developers have more control over the player experience that way.
We don't have too many open horror games but I think SCP Containment Breach and nu-Prey did it well. The absolutely feeling of being alone in a huge place with full of monsters. They can make it work. Puzzles, very limited ammo and having to figure out proper pathing to make the most use out of your resources and limited inventory, and having to find weapons and upgrades instead of buying them. RE2Remake did that very well.
Unfortunately it's still going to be an action horror game, and those benefit much more from linear levels. Open world and sidequests sounds like useless padding that will ruin the pace.

It made him seem standoffish and terrified during the game and added a veil of mystery as to his mental state and perception of events (such as did he feel that Nicole was dead) It added tension when it was almost time to try an escape but he hadn't found Nicole and the player didn't know if he would leave without proof of her death or do something stupid like stay behind. I wanted to see Issac safe because he seemed like an average Joe that was in over his head.
In the new trailer there is no mystery. He believes Nichole is alive. Also the bit with the technical jargon is later in the game, so he is calm and stable not horrified and frayed.
My favorite thing about it was just the atmosphere of isolation it provided. You're just totally alone in the depths of this shit for days, getting the odd one-way message every now and then giving you some guidance. Don't have much time to elaborate right now, but I prefer 2 and its dialogue. Horror tends to work better when the characters are more human and outwardly fearful. It makes you worry about their well being more.
This is the same reason why women tend to be better horror protags. They are more vulnerable, thus the audience is more concerned for their survival. When you have someone like Isaac, who looks like a cool deep sea killing machine, some of the fear can be lost due to how badass he is. For example, putting doomguy in the dead space scenario would instantly ruin the tension because we know what kind of guy he is.

While i agree dead space doesnt really need a remake, hey, if they can fix the awful aiming from the og and, as they have said apparently, make the ishimura a big mansion ("open world") rather than just stages, i think it is a good upgrade.
As for isaac clarke voice acting, i just hope he doesnt talk like another marvel character throwing jokes and talking when he shouldnt and shit, but just a real human being being trapped in a big ass scary ship. From the trailer i think he's fine.
Definitely a big upgrade with the lightning too, people really need to go replay dead space to see that while the lightning in some places are pretty good, not every part of the game looks as polished.

The trailer was good. My only complaint would be the guy hitting the head in the hallway scene. The new model just dont nail the scene. It looks like a generic patient zero. They can still change that though. The old one was better because his rig was empty and when you got a better look.. he was completely deformed with organs falling into the ground, it was a miracle he was even alive at that point. There was a lot of blood in the wall too and with the poor light, it made it all better. I also saw some other scenes, and while they are quite good. It would be better if they give more damage and blood look for the models (for example the woman in the med room and the miner in that room, they look way to healthy and clean). Other than that, its all good.

It could work. The issue with doing a DS game where you’re fighting back an invasion of Earth is that you run the risk of turning the game into a TPS rather than a horror game (which 3 already did in a sense).
I know what i'll say will be fricked up, but would it work with a system like Last of Us ? With low ammo, or just enough to survive, avoid Necros if possible. It could work with gameplay, but the pacing/story and gameplay difference would not work in line with the other game.
And in the other case of "We need to get out of Earth" could work too, like ol' Dead Space 1 or 2, but with a urban type scenario. But that's just plain ripoff of DS2.
There's no good way of doing it I suppose.

Keeping a pistol up close like that actually makes sense when the only sights it has is a laser sight. It's less effort to keep it stable there, especially since a plasma cutter looks much heavier than a normal pistol. Habits based around weapons also aren't in Isaac's background, he's a random engineer.
But most importantly, the tight stance will block less of the player's view of threats to the left of the point of aim.

It's okay, DS1 doesn't hold up graphics wise and the 30 FPS only was making it the most logical for a remake.
As for Isaac talking, I think it's an option you can choose in the settings so I don't really give a shit. From what I heard it's not going to be long winded monologues, but him commenting on things, unnecessary but it'll be nice to hear Gunner lines, plus it's nice to see Deadspace get popular again.

It looks "amazing" for taking pretty screenshots. From what I see it lacks the rugged, run down aesthetic of the original completely. And that stasis orb visual looks like dogshit, literally all 3 previous games looked better in that sense. Necromorph skin also looks kind of worse tbh.
Too little footage to actually tell anything for sure, but the biggest crime is re-doing all the voice acting. The VAs and the sound design itself in DS was fantastic, it feels natural and still holds up to this day.

ive got a zoomie cousin who has never played dead space who is all hyped for this. i told him he can just install and play the original release right now. in 4k with your brightness and contrast tunes correctly, the game is still fantastic. he obviously wasnt interested in this because zoomer morons always need the "new" thing, even if it isnt necessarily better.
to me, it looks like some little details are off. in the original he raises the plasma cutter up to his eyes and tilts his head a little to aim. he doesnt raise it much in the new one. they altered the suit a little which is borderline criminal because of how iconic that suit is, and i think its too shiny. im actually okay with Gunner coming back to record voice lines because i think he is really good voice actor, the inherent problem with that is we now know they had to re-write stuff, and THAT is what is really scary.

the writing was the issue with the third game. other than the weapon crafting not being well-balanced and the suits being the worst in the series and...well the third game had a lot of issues, but to me the writing was the most egregious.
they ruined every character, Ellie became annoying, Isaac became a literal simp who apologized for blasting Ellies boyfriends face off, despite the fact he was literally defending his own life. Isaac and Ellie trying to kiss while the entire map is crumbling around them.
to me, the worst part of the third game was when they tried to do the false death scene for ellie. because the thing is...nobody believed it. there wasnt enough gravity given to the situation for anybody with a brain to believe that she was going to die, despite the fact that she was literally just trapped in a situation where there was no escape.
anyway...my point is that stupid writing could really fricking tank this thing. im willing to give it a shot but what is annoying is that any real criticism will be dismissed because people will say youre just trying to be contrarian and have "nostalgia goggles" or whatever.
