DP is one of the best horror games ever. It has an engrossing story, magnetic characters, sublime protagonist and unrelenting horror atmosphere. It catches the "small town" setting perfectly. Most people say the jank is bad and I wouldn't blame them for saying that but it feels like it fits within the atmosphere of the game. The technical issues it has doesn’t take away from that. It's like a rough, uncut diamond. In short, it's a clunky, insane, endearing, lovable, weird work of a goofy genius known as SWERY.

I just finished the prologue on the steam version. I can't tell if some of the things are intentional or jank, such as the enemies teleporting just slightly as they walk

        That's intentional.

It is a game. Most hate it. The ones who get it love it. Sequel both filters out the remaining audience, and is a proper sequel at the end, at the same time. Swery is a genius.

I'm tempted to play Deadly Premontion 2 now that it's released on Steam. How was it?

        >How was it?
The new gameplay mechanics were fun and I appreciate SWERY for adding so much to the simple combat of DP1, I spent hours having fun looking for drops to upgrade my skills. Aside from that, to me, the story is what matters the most in a game, and this one just has so much to tell with all its eccentric characters, relationships and twists. DP2 being a thing after the masterpiece that is DP1 is nothing short of a miracle to me and I'm thankful that SWERY brought York and Zach back for a perfect closure. DP2 has what most polished ones out there don't have, a soul and a love from it's creator.

        Never heard of him.

It's a really bad game. It isn't something for everyone just weird basement dwellers. It can be interesting in some areas but the meandering and pacing of the story is totally contrived. It's alot to do about nothing essentially. Play the evil within its a better game all around

Absolute jank and just plain questionable development decisions throughout. It's incredibly meticulous to play and none of it really makes sense. But you can tell there was an absolute frickton of passion put into the game. The town in full of well developed and nuanced characters, the main character is chock full of off-kilter charm and fun trivia. The writing is actually pretty damn decent for a mystery game and the world is really crafted to feel real and lived in. It's an absolute fever dream that only get more insane and engaging the farther you get into it. I can't honestly recommend it to anyone but it's truly a one of a kind game.

    >played it through on Switch, but wanted to try and discover some of the side content
    >game shits itself to death whenever I try to play via chapter select
    >play the sequel hoping that it'll give off the same charm of the original and maybe not kill itself when deviating from the straight and narrow
    >it's super self-aware and tries too hard to be zany
    >it doesn't shit itself to death, but it's jank beyond belief and runs like crap despite being built with Switch hardware in mind
    >all the side content is "do X thing Y times" garbage and the only decently fun thing is bowling

I tried to play this years ago, got maybe 5 hours in seemed look a cool game but it kept crashing after an hour or two and I had to reset PC to fix it. Could never find a fix for it so have up. Console versions are 30fps or worse so that's a no go for me.

Might try it on RPCS3 Steam Deck since it runs 60fps.

Don't be fooled by people who say "It's so bad it's good". That's not true. The combat is terrible and the controls are clunky in general, it feels like a game from a generation before it actually came out, too. However, other than that it's a fantastic game. My favorite game of all time for plot.

It's Twin Peaks with an explorable town where you get to interact with all the quirky characters. It was also Twin Peaks with an actual ending (before Twin Peaks season 3 came out). The ending is so perfect too. I genuinely love Deadly Premonition so much. Still haven't played 2, though.
