And the most maddening thing of all? She was a rewrite character, this wasn't the original plan and was a late change. Shadowheart was suppose to be Ketheric's resurrected daughter, her mom was originally Isobel's roll in protecting the Harper's and the Nightsong was suppose to be Shar's lost child from prehistory and the idea was Ketheric manipulated Shar's worshipers to hurt their own goddess as a means to keep himself immortal. Think about how Aylin acts, isn't that more what you would think a child of an evil god to behave? Hell why call her the Nightsong? You can be a moralgay, neutral, and evil durge. You aren't railroaded into one or the other. TAV appears to miss a ton of the Bhaal stuff in act 3, the stuff that ties into the Chosen 3.

If tav did not exist the durge would have to be scaled back. People would not tolerate being forced into a necrophiliac cute-bard-eye-gouging villain. The intensity of durge would be scaled back to the point that it'd be a milder experience. Durge won more than it lost by having tav split off.
She was supposed to have a story arc about breaking her oath as a Paladin, which likely involved her getting thoroughly humbled while she tried to find redemption.

Honestly durge is only so standout in contrast to Tav, mainly the issue with Larian once again, where Tav is too much of a blank slate, so they end up doing nothing someone else could have done. Meanwhile, Durge is a shot of heroin in terms of how incredibly well put together the character is, especially compared to the companions

The only reason Orpheus doesn't try to kill you (and fail, he's a level 12 monk) is because he's willing to hear you out when you free him. He really does get done dirty by the Emperor, as he seems reasonable, honorable, and even kind for a Gith. I think default Durge works really well, the Albino scaly has a type of appeal and the game is easy enough as it is. Dragonborn are kind of weird, because they have some very metal reactivity compared to other races but yeah they have shit features. They suck even in base DnD, but at least they have feats your DM might give you freebies off to add flavor
the only thing shitty about them is their built in breath weapon which doesnt scale, i think they have shit for darkvision but dont quote me on that.

I was using a hammer that let you do an aoe attack with knockback, and the clown spent his first move running out of the silence aoe right to a ledge, I didn't even intend to knock him down

Cazador is such an unbelievably dogshit fight. There's no way to fight his 'harder' version without cucking yourself by bringing astarion AND then letting him die. I just wanted a decent fricking boss challenge, instead the guy does almost nothing, hides in a fog cloud that still gets clobbered and then just dies in his coffin. What a fricking let down
The whole point of a Vampire monster is that you're supposed to fight him multiple times, each time he goes back to the coffin to regenerate. How they fricked this up is beyond me. It's even in movies and stuff outside of d&d official material
The games just shit balanced, and 5e sucks. I'm trying to think of the boss fights I thought were actually not just a 100% letdown in act 3, and all I can really think of is the giant robot and the undead dragon. Even the final fight is a let down its just "survive the aoe return damage every hit and dont die to platforms exploding". The red dragon isn't threatening, the tentacles aren't threatening, the ilithids are a little annoying but you can take them out quickly, the only difficult thing in that fight is the 4 unique fighters cause half of them can counterspell your shit, but once you know that you can just have a warrior one round them each or use the call dragon fire or call the mage tower canon on the caster ones instantly and the fights over.
Their boss design is just pretty shitty. Also it's insanely disappointing that there are so many instances of giant holes or standing on a dock at a huge dark lake and nothing happens, giant fricking monsters should come out of it to slap your shit
I agree. Halfway through Moonrise, I was so fricking overpowered that I just unga bunga'd every boss. I didn't bother with the mechanics when Lae'zel did an average of 25 damage times 3. Or how shadowheart can heal everyone in the party to full with a single spell. It got worse when Minthara joined and started sending nukes. I was on the highest difficultly, and the only challenging part was act 1 and the final mission (only because all of the mobs were camping on top like a bunch of gays). Even the four rows of Mind Flayers with Magic Missile spam weren't a challenge when you can cast two blackholes and kill two at once.
The only 'challenging' boss was Orin, and that's because she had 10 unstoppable every turun. But for some reason, a Deva summon could bypass it. I'm sure it was a bug, but it goes to show that the bosses are only a threat when they're unfair, not challenging

Didn't even find orin remotely challenging. I just flame walled etc all the chanting cultists and she lost her unstoppable. I redone it for the achievement to keep the chanters alive and still killed her in 2 rounds.
The hardest boss in the game for me if I actually think about it was balthazar, he's the only boss that immediately drinks a swiftness potion, he can run for miles and misty step infinite times so you can't keep him silenced, and his cloudkill at that point hit for significantly more than half my characters hp in one cast.
Any other challenging fight in the later game the challenge was purely keeping moron npcs with death wishes alive, not the enemy being annoying or dangerous.
I imagine raphael is meant to be hard, but by that point I have like 7 stacks of arcane acuity after 1 round and hold monster anyones ass relatively easily

I didn't fight him in his room, I fought him at the nightsong when I told him he wasn't getting her, he has far more room here to run around and misty step with elevation. He doesn't have his meat golem, but he's more annoying. I had to polymorph him to stop him casting a bunch.
Realistically though I could have just used arcane arrows to silence him, but consumables in this game are stupid you get so many you forget to even consider them as your UI bars are too small to reasonably contain your attacks + spells + more than like healing pots and res scrolls

I guess it's a balance act between nullifiying the utility spells the player can use, and rewarding the player for actually utilizing said spells and not just hurling fireballs all game.
It might really help if CC spells only last 1-3 rounds on bosses or something like that.

I learned that you can keep companions like wyll if you murder them and shove their bodies in your camp chest before the raid to only use whithers to revive them after the raid. Just did this to wyll during the raid celebration and he acts like the raid never happened.
I know you can sacrifice at least one at the Cthulhu cave. I figure the method doesn't work with them in your party, i nuked astarions sorry ass in the creche and that fricker "lived"
You can also do something similar to allow you to keep human Wyll with his fancy upgrade robe and Karlach. Kill Karlach, trigger the upgrade cutscene, revivify Karlach away from her line of sight, long rest, then recruit her.

Jergal (Withers) himself said that Mindflayers have no soul. It's a done deal after that. I simply disregarded everything Emperor said.
Gith are the only ones who are equipped to deal with, and resolve the Mindflayer problem.
The issue with how the Emperor is portrayed is, there is no difference in your endings if you betray him and free Orpheus, or vice versa. Emperor is basically a plot device.
He was a very late addition to the OG plot. there was a 4th member of the chosen three's plot and it was a Mindflayer, who we saw in the start of the game's opening and was the one that killed the two Mindflayers we saw on the ground, his purpose was to appear near/towards act 3 as an alternative to listening to Daisy and was to help you kill the chosen only to backstab you as well for the 4th act (Upper city) to be you getting the hammer and freeing Orpheus, it's why Raphael has jarring lines making it sound like you have run out of options and why their are cut lines of you taking a deal to already be free from the parasite as well as one's where he says he couldn't free you of it because you embraced too much of it.
It's pretty obvious they took this agent of the choosen Mindflayer and Daisy and mixed together with really bad results.

The bhaal essence was freed once he dies and this in turn returned to Bhaal which revived him. Although without the ritual that Melissan was supposed to perform he didn't come back as a full god which is why now he's only considered Quasi Divine.

don't bother. the game doesn't have much content for an evil playthrough. all the dev time went towards the good path. when you follow the evil options all that happens is you kill a questgiver npc(s) instead of doing said quest. for instance, if you pick the evil path and kidnap isobel, everyone in last light inn dies immediately and you just deleted half of the quests in act 2. if you attack the grove in act 1, you just lost a dozen or so quests. the only tangible difference is you get minthara, a half-finished companion with no quest.

Spell sniper is best on any other class that can add their prof modifier to their cantrips since it allows you to pick eldritch blast on a non-warlock. That being said if you're an old one warlock then spell sniper is a must have for crit fishing. In any other scenario just grab ability score bonus.

all of act 2 had this dumb shit. I beat all the other "boss" fights through conversation and then had to reload so I could actually enjoy the fight. and then reload again so I could skip it. just a bit stupid.
i read some strategy guides on this and the easiest solution that doesnt involve pushing him off into nothingness (and losing loot in the process) is to stack all the skeleton piles on top of each other at the edge of the arena and push them off with forcewave or something and then take care of him
the skeletons aren't even remotely an issue, it's all balthazaar, you can just ignore the skeletons essentially they'll all kill themselves to a radiant aoe swirly or something similar and they hit for very little and miss most of the time
for me it was the other way around, skellies were the main problem and balthazaar just some guy shooting some magic around

I was on tactician ofc, game was too easy to play on normal. But my ac was high as frick all game on 3 characters and then on 4 by the end, trash mobs that aren't casters hardly ever land hits let alone do significant damage
Took me a few times to figure this out, my problem wasn't with the chasm but with Balthazar casting fricking Cloudkill since I had no counterspells in the party
I figured out if you get a Banishment off on Balthy then he'll drop out of it directly into Lethargy from his speed potion. Start can wipe all the undead with two uses of Turn Undead.
Her problem in that scenario was the pompous girly haired mage who wants to imprison her in a similar manner to how she had been like with Thorm and that he's acting incredulous about it like she was expected to be perfectly fine with it.
So I just did the Act 2 final boss fight. Killed Nightsong so I didn't have Ayylmao around to body the boss.
I scraped by with only one party member up at one point.
It was pretty fun but the rest of the big fights aren't going to be this hard, are they?
Hold Person or Hold Monster. It's a concentration spell. Enemies in this game almost always fail wisdom checks so they're stunned and take automatic crits while stunned.
Too bad that in bg3 they nerfed CC magic, it makes casters comparatively shit tbh

Idk anon, that fight wasn't hard so it's difficult to judge if you consider it to be. Boss does almost nothing if you space your guys out around him and have some ranged. So if you considered that hard, then yes? I guess the big fights are going to be around that level

Bhaalist armor is the best source of vulnerability in the game and only works with piercing weapons.
the spear does 2d6 damage, plus advantage on all your saving throws, plus immunity to blindness, and the special attack edge of darkness gets you 3m aoe melee attacks, you can smite every enemy inside, etc.. also unlimited darkness. So your entire team gets immunity to blindness wich is easy to do, and you're destroying everything besides devils, the AI just can't do much against your party.
At higher levels you're using stinking cloud and cloudkill as darkness because your party is immune to poison (Heroes feast).
TL:dr the spear is god mode and only gets stronger as you get better clouds.

seems great, yeah. and getting poison immunity is actually not that easy, i'm fairly certain being immune to being poisoned from feast doesn't actually make you immune to poison damage, just the status effect, because i abused camp casters to have resistance to poison up on everyone and i'm fairly sure it still had the resist icon even after casting feast, not immunity.

I agree about AC being king, however there are 2 exceptions, the Bhaalist armor and the Luminous armor, those are the only 2 chestpieces that are totally worth it using despite lower AC.

It has built in obscuring with its unique attack but I'm still pulling for giantslayer for the raw dps it can dish out. Obviously if you're using a character that likes spears (not tridents like Nyrulna there is slight distinctions between the two) then yeah use it I mean you're getting either selunes or shars by naturally progressing the story so use it but giantslayer is probably best or tied with nyrulna for melee martial users.
this weapon is good, but because ranged weapons are dex it gets cucked by not having an elixir to give you 27 dex. celestial haste is great, the unique attacks are great, its easily the best bow its just that bows and ranged combat are kinda... not great and scales poorly
On my first playthrough I didn't realise you could lock yourself out of this weapon if you kill Gortash early, so fricking annoying. The haste alone is simply insane.

Honestly durge is only so standout in contrast to Tav, mainly the issue with Larian once again, where Tav is too much of a blank slate, so they end up doing nothing someone else could have done. The only reason Orpheus doesn't try to kill you (and fail, he's a level 12 monk) is because he's willing to hear you out when you free him. He really does get done dirty by the Emperor, as he seems reasonable, honorable, and even kind for a Gith. Then again though, it's the end of the world and the guy is finally free after thousands of years.

I think default Durge works really well, the Albino scaly has a type of appeal and the game is easy enough as it is. Dragonborn are kind of weird, because they have some very metal reactivity compared to other races but yeah they have shit features. They suck even in base DnD, but at least they have feats your DM might give you freebies off to add flavor

I didn't get the cutscene of her breaking his back, because he was chilling near a ledge when the encounter started and that's a really really bad idea in BG3.

I found that Pushing Attack for melees works better than just pushing people, because it yeets enemies in an arc.
I was using a hammer that let you do an aoe attack with knockback, and the clown spent his first move running out of the silence aoe right to a ledge, I didn't even intend to knock him down

His first move was to cast some poop cloud which got counterspelled, then he ran and hid behind a pillar near the platform edge.
I was expecting him to turn into a bat or something, but no, he just died instantly.
Cazador is such an unbelievably dogshit fight. There's no way to fight his 'harder' version without cucking yourself by bringing astarion AND then letting him die. I just wanted a decent fricking boss challenge, instead the guy does almost nothing, hides in a fog cloud that still gets clobbered and then just dies in his coffin. What a fricking let down
The whole point of a Vampire monster is that you're supposed to fight him multiple times, each time he goes back to the coffin to regenerate. How they fricked this up is beyond me. It's even in movies and stuff outside of d&d official material
The games just shit balanced, and 5e sucks. I'm trying to think of the boss fights I thought were actually not just a 100% letdown in act 3, and all I can really think of is the giant robot and the undead dragon. Even the final fight is a let down its just "survive the aoe return damage every hit and dont die to platforms exploding". The red dragon isn't threatening, the tentacles aren't threatening, the ilithids are a little annoying but you can take them out quickly, the only difficult thing in that fight is the 4 unique fighters cause half of them can counterspell your shit, but once you know that you can just have a warrior one round them each or use the call dragon fire or call the mage tower canon on the caster ones instantly and the fights over.
Their boss design is just pretty shitty. Also it's insanely disappointing that there are so many instances of giant holes or standing on a dock at a huge dark lake and nothing happens, giant fricking monsters should come out of it to slap your shit
I agree. Halfway through Moonrise, I was so fricking overpowered that I just unga bunga'd every boss. I didn't bother with the mechanics when Lae'zel did an average of 25 damage times 3. Or how shadowheart can heal everyone in the party to full with a single spell. It got worse when Minthara joined and started sending nukes. I was on the highest difficultly, and the only challenging part was act 1 and the final mission (only because all of the mobs were camping on top like a bunch of gays). Even the four rows of Mind Flayers with Magic Missile spam weren't a challenge when you can cast two blackholes and kill two at once.
The only 'challenging' boss was Orin, and that's because she had 10 unstoppable every turun. But for some reason, a Deva summon could bypass it. I'm sure it was a bug, but it goes to show that the bosses are only a threat when they're unfair, not challenging

Didn't even find orin remotely challenging. I just flame walled etc all the chanting cultists and she lost her unstoppable. I redone it for the achievement to keep the chanters alive and still killed her in 2 rounds.
The hardest boss in the game for me if I actually think about it was balthazar, he's the only boss that immediately drinks a swiftness potion, he can run for miles and misty step infinite times so you can't keep him silenced, and his cloudkill at that point hit for significantly more than half my characters hp in one cast.
Any other challenging fight in the later game the challenge was purely keeping moron npcs with death wishes alive, not the enemy being annoying or dangerous.
I imagine raphael is meant to be hard, but by that point I have like 7 stacks of arcane acuity after 1 round and hold monster anyones ass relatively easily

I didn't fight him in his room, I fought him at the nightsong when I told him he wasn't getting her, he has far more room here to run around and misty step with elevation. He doesn't have his meat golem, but he's more annoying. I had to polymorph him to stop him casting a bunch.
Realistically though I could have just used arcane arrows to silence him, but consumables in this game are stupid you get so many you forget to even consider them as your UI bars are too small to reasonably contain your attacks + spells + more than like healing pots and res scrolls
Orin is a joke. I cast flesh to stone and she failed 3 saves in a row and turned to stone. She isn't even a miniboss at that point.
Most of the boss fights in this game are invalidated by Push and/or spells like Hold Monster.
I'm not really complaining, because the alternative would be bullshit JRPG tier bosses that are immune to everything that isn't direct damage.

I guess it's a balance act between nullifiying the utility spells the player can use, and rewarding the player for actually utilizing said spells and not just hurling fireballs all game.
It might really help if CC spells only last 1-3 rounds on bosses or something like that.

I learned that you can keep companions like wyll if you murder them and shove their bodies in your camp chest before the raid to only use whithers to revive them after the raid. Just did this to wyll during the raid celebration and he acts like the raid never happened.

You need to kill them when they aren't camp recruitable, so either a cutscene, event, or if they haven't joined yet
You can kill pernamently every companion at every moment by killing them, then talking to withers about it.
You can also do something similar to allow you to keep human Wyll with his fancy upgrade robe and Karlach. Kill Karlach, trigger the upgrade cutscene, revivify Karlach away from her line of sight, long rest, then recruit her.

The issue with how the Emperor is portrayed is, there is no difference in your endings if you betray him and free Orpheus, or vice versa. Emperor is basically a plot device.

He was a very late addition to the OG plot. there was a 4th member of the chosen three's plot and it was a Mindflayer, who we saw in the start of the game's opening and was the one that killed the two Mindflayers we saw on the ground, his purpose was to appear near/towards act 3 as an alternative to listening to Daisy and was to help you kill the chosen only to backstab you as well for the 4th act (Upper city) to be you getting the hammer and freeing Orpheus, it's why Raphael has jarring lines making it sound like you have run out of options and why their are cut lines of you taking a deal to already be free from the parasite as well as one's where he says he couldn't free you of it because you embraced too much of it.
It's pretty obvious they took this agent of the choosen Mindflayer and Daisy and mixed together with really bad results.

don't bother. the game doesn't have much content for an evil playthrough. all the dev time went towards the good path. when you follow the evil options all that happens is you kill a questgiver npc(s) instead of doing said quest. for instance, if you pick the evil path and kidnap isobel, everyone in last light inn dies immediately and you just deleted half of the quests in act 2. if you attack the grove in act 1, you just lost a dozen or so quests. the only tangible difference is you get minthara, a half-finished companion with no quest.

Spell sniper is best on any other class that can add their prof modifier to their cantrips since it allows you to pick eldritch blast on a non-warlock. That being said if you're an old one warlock then spell sniper is a must have for crit fishing. In any other scenario just grab ability score bonus.

i read some strategy guides on this and the easiest solution that doesnt involve pushing him off into nothingness (and losing loot in the process) is to stack all the skeleton piles on top of each other at the edge of the arena and push them off with forcewave or something and then take care of him
the skeletons aren't even remotely an issue, it's all balthazaar, you can just ignore the skeletons essentially they'll all kill themselves to a radiant aoe swirly or something similar and they hit for very little and miss most of the time
for me it was the other way around, skellies were the main problem and balthazaar just some guy shooting some magic around

I was on tactician ofc, game was too easy to play on normal. But my ac was high as frick all game on 3 characters and then on 4 by the end, trash mobs that aren't casters hardly ever land hits let alone do significant damage

I figured out if you get a Banishment off on Balthy then he'll drop out of it directly into Lethargy from his speed potion. Start can wipe all the undead with two uses of Turn Undead.
Her problem in that scenario was the pompous girly haired mage who wants to imprison her in a similar manner to how she had been like with Thorm and that he's acting incredulous about it like she was expected to be perfectly fine with it.

Hold Person or Hold Monster. It's a concentration spell. Enemies in this game almost always fail wisdom checks so they're stunned and take automatic crits while stunned.

Bhaalist armor is the best source of vulnerability in the game and only works with piercing weapons.
the spear does 2d6 damage, plus advantage on all your saving throws, plus immunity to blindness, and the special attack edge of darkness gets you 3m aoe melee attacks, you can smite every enemy inside, etc.. also unlimited darkness. So your entire team gets immunity to blindness wich is easy to do, and you're destroying everything besides devils, the AI just can't do much against your party.
At higher levels you're using stinking cloud and cloudkill as darkness because your party is immune to poison (Heroes feast).
TL:dr the spear is god mode and only gets stronger as you get better clouds.

You're rating this weapon highly on entirely conditional setup steps every fight that nobody is doing and aren't necessary because you could already have ended the fight if you just bunga'd them with the big sword or better spells to hold or straight up kill them

I agree about AC being king, however there are 2 exceptions, the Bhaalist armor and the Luminous armor, those are the only 2 chestpieces that are totally worth it using despite lower AC.

It has built in obscuring with its unique attack but I'm still pulling for giantslayer for the raw dps it can dish out. Obviously if you're using a character that likes spears (not tridents like Nyrulna there is slight distinctions between the two) then yeah use it I mean you're getting either selunes or shars by naturally progressing the story so use it but giantslayer is probably best or tied with nyrulna for melee martial users.

this weapon is good, but because ranged weapons are dex it gets cucked by not having an elixir to give you 27 dex. celestial haste is great, the unique attacks are great, its easily the best bow its just that bows and ranged combat are kinda... not great and scales poorly
On my first playthrough I didn't realise you could lock yourself out of this weapon if you kill Gortash early, so fricking annoying. The haste alone is simply insane.
