It actually makes sense in a way, a corporate machine that has to manufacture 'content' for you to consume. The mob vote is a cover to make it seem like the community has a say in what gets added. Once that homosexual dream intervened twice, Mojang more or less made it so that one of the votes would be the best of the three without adding too much to the game.
tl;dr the mob vote was okay until a speedrunner told people to vote for the useless picks and now it's more or less pre-determined, either the crab or the armadillo will win. I'm banking on the crab but the foxgays from 2018 could swerve things a bit for muh doggo armor.
