start with something easier, much easier. Just try to think of something basic to automate or something. Like download your emails and put them in a spreadsheet or something i don't know. When i started i just made a few basic calculators for some stock market stuff I was into at the time
>start programming >realize I'm a moron >realize other people are even bigger morons >keep on programming >build something shitty >barely works >still get paid
I'm a moron >>stop programming
if only more people were like this... that would purge 90% of the software engineering world and force universities to actually teach people beyond for loops and hello world with ACTUAL skill tests where you're REJECTED when you fail, not sent to google or facebook on a recommendations...
I can imagine a world where I don't have to teach smart pointers to C++ devs with 30 years of experience at top500 companies, I would be the happiest dev on the planet...
it happened literally yesterday, I also had to explain how to use initialisation_list, this person is leaving soon to work in aerospace...
this is pure insanity, how did she (yes, a wemyn) pass the technical evaluation and how are they expecting her to write safe C++ code...
something is definitely wrong with the software industry
>don't know anything else than shell script and BASIC >want to make a calendar program that shows your countrys weird holidays and stuff >decide to make it output HTML >shell scripting doesn't work too well for figuring out what day of the year is it when it's last tuesday of october and shit like that
what do? All I want is something that generates a per-month calendar page with notes when a specific day is the last tuesday of october. Or whatever.
Same
videogames is one of the hardest thing you can do in programming. Don't beat yourself up bud.

>decide to make a game
>program
>think the gameplay loop sucks
>stop
Start with doing programming that requires no math skills such as scripting.

What did you build?
Web apps for work
>decide to program
int {0};
start with a tetris- or pacman-clone
This, also snake, and pong are cool
Personally I'd start with snake and then build an ai for it
game dev here. video games are impossible to make. try something else before you hate yourself
>yeah I will make it on my own
reminder that kojima started as a programmer
Try game modding
You should just mod an existing game. Then you can focus on the aesthetics and gameplay while having a pre-existing game to build with.
