Handhelds are huge in Japan. The PS Vita kept up sales and popularity in Japan a few years after it was dead in the water in the West. I hope the Steam Deck will teach Sony a lesson that they should've continued developing for the PS Vita, but I'm not sure what they've got in the works for the future.
>I hope the Steam Deck will teach Sony a lesson that they should've continued developing for the PS Vita
Steam Deck works because developers can essentially treat it as a slight special case for the same platform. A lot of the things that determine if a game works on it are just things like supporting the resolution, gamepad support, gamepad+mouse support, and avoiding Microsoft video codecs or NT specific malware.
For the PSV, Sony had to maintain an entire platform separate from the PS4, and the same would be true for the PS5. The only way they would bring it back is if they went handheld-only like Nintendo did. Which they might do, "consoles" that are just PCs but closed platforms don't seem like they have a future. You can get 95% of the way there right now just by building a gaming PC with an AMD GPU, and installing a modern Linux distro meant for 10 foot use.
There are persistent rumors Valve is going to do a 'console PC' of their own, and it will probably take off this time if they handle it like the Deck and sell it themselves.
Microsoft won't be able to lean on OEMs to pay up on 'patent license fees' higher than the cost of a Windows license like what they did to the first-gen Steam Machines.
Most likely they're just going to treat their PC ports like handheld ports so they reap all the benefits of selling extra software for handheld play without needing to make their own hardware for it. A lot of their PC ports like God of War, Days Gone, and Spider-Man run quite nice on Deck.
They don't. Japs can't even buy them online on their storefront and they're only sold at a handful of retail stores. Big displays like in the OP are probably the only way they can find out that the Deck exists.
>Big displays like in the OP are probably the only way they can find out that the Deck exists.
And the comedy behind that is those booths get ignored due to valve shilling the goydeck with nigs, which really makes you question the frick are they even doing.
Clearly they're just putting in the minimum amount of effort for Japan. If Valve really cared, they would distribute the Deck themselves. I think it's funny that Ganker keeps hoping and coping that Japan becomes epic PC gamers so they'll be just like "us", as if the Deck is some kind of Trojan Horse to achieve that.
japan already has a growing pc market anon, but it's thanks to apex and switch games being a pain in the ass to stream so vtubers settle for pc gayman as a second best choice, which gets people to copy them
the thing Ganker goyims are desperate to claim is coping pretending japan cares about their goyslop tablet more over the switch, which is just not true when it's not even used there >as if the Deck is some kind of Trojan Horse to achieve that.
this is literally what is happening bro, they are trying to get the japanese market locked on steam so they can backstab them later just like sony did
unfortunately for them that sony betrayal and the PS4+5 going full westoid pretty much made japanese companies not care about westoid brands altogether, especially not when most games jp gamers want to play are not on steam regardless thanks to their draconian anti-japan policies
>this is literally what is happening bro, they are trying to get the japanese market locked on steam
Who is "they"? Because if you're referring Valve, they would sell them the Deck on their storefront, not at a handful of stores, if they really had a grand plan in play. Pretty hollow attempt when the Switch 2 is on the horizon and is poised to potentially run third party games just fine as graphic potential continues to stagnate.
Funny since valve almost got themselves blocked by the Japanese government over yuzu on their official advertisement. Anyways PC in Japan has like 23% of the population of gamers. Not that it matters since once the switch 2 comes out and there's no emulator deck is dead. Actually looking into pc gamers in Japan showd an astonishing amount of complaints about games just not working.
that would be the legion go

Unironic google translate for what looks like "Gaming world's newest (gaming) experience".
Unfortunately due to westoids being unable to write japanese it reads literally like "Game's new-ish experiences the world" which is just comical.
Can't they hire at least a rando fricking weeb to proofread this shit?
I've got a switch lite and tend to prefer it over the deck in most regards. The switch is more streamlined by far in that games just work, the fan is inaudible and battery life is good across the board. The Deck can play almost anything but can be a bit of a slog to get settings and controls right. I seem to spend as much time tinkering as I do actually playing the game. And the fan is loud on mine even with 10w tdp limit. I don't know how well the nips will take to the deck if they're used to Sony and Nintendo handhelds.
I would say I prefer my oled switch as it is more compact, and aesthetic, not to mention the built in stand on the oled switch is perfect. Some of the better features of the switch the deck can't rip off without getting assraped (sued)
Would make sense it'll fit well in their tiny apartments, it's mobile so they can use it on the train, and it can replace the function of a desktop PC with a dock. Not to mention the Japanese love digital due to space and convenience reasons.
Deck is the closest thing there is right now to a follow-up to the PS Vita and PSP since Sony won't make another handheld, and the Vita and handhelds in general are a popular niche in Japan. Makes sense.
The fact that nvidia got away with selling the 4xxx series while it was pure dogshit makes me fear for the 5xxx series.
I want to replace my 3060ti but i have no hope for a decent midrage card at affordable prices next gen.
Sure, but i play a lot of games on a 4k tv with a controller hooked up to my pc, and the 3060ti starts shitting itself in some games because it only has 8g Vram.
It's a 1440p card, not 4k, but sure in older games it's a really good gpu.
7900 GRE seems to be a pretty great value right now. RadV benchmarks have it putting up respectable numbers against anything that isn't repurposed data center hardware.
I'd be buying one, but my 6800XT still handles everything I play at 4k without problems.
Yeah, but i fell for the raytracing meme, i believe it's the future, so AMD isnt really a option for that.
>he fell for the 4k meme
my condolences
if it were high Hz or HDR i would understand it, but 4k remains a meme and so is 1440p frankly
at the distance you use a TV at there's barely any difference between normal 1080p and 4k
Playing a game at 4k with HDR and a decent framerate on a oled tv is peak gaming.
Even botw on cemu that doesnt have HDR support is a lot better with everything turned up to 11.

I expect AMD to catch up next generation, because nvidia has become too wienery with the succes of the 1&2&3&4xxx series.
Even if you fell for the goytracing meme amd is still barely behind goyvidia these days unless you cope with the next tier of crippleworks that is pathtracing for even more negligible improvements at the cost of crippling your performance even in nvidia cards not named "4090".
Nah, i can understand pc gamers shitting on DLSS&FSR, but when playing vidya on a TV, DLSS quality mode works just fine, you cant see the artifacts from the couche.
But on the other side, FSR in yuzu works really well.

With Nvidia's proprietary tech they use to keep users locked into their hardware? Never going to happen.
Open-source Vulkan gets standard ray tracing? Nvidia pushes new custom APIs for developers for 'true path tracing' that leans on some code that slows down anything else.
Open-source FSR gets frame interpolation and higher-quality upscaling? Nvidia introduces something new exclusive to 5000 series hardware all the reviewers will insist you have to have.
The only way to win is just to get off Nvidia's treadmill.
The big problem is AMD has now unfortunately been ignored for so long, and sells so little hardware to NT gamers they may not even bother with anything other than SoC and low-end hardware next cycle.
They might be content to sell an RDNA 3.5 '8700' as the top-tier hardware to that market, and offer some new CDNA 4.x + Graphics hardware to the UNIX workstation market.
Depressing as frick to read that.

>Depressing as frick to read that.
Yeah, but as long as people insist on only buying Nvidia hardware it isn't going to change.
AMD has so little marketshare now that Steam Deck and other Linux users are 12% of total AMD users. Well ahead of the 5% they represent in the overall stats (ignoring China).
Intel's discrete hardware still doesn't even show up in the stats, and even with integrated hardware they have even less users than AMD with no bright spots.
NT users buying Nvidia just keep telling themselves 'someone will save us', but the fact is it isn't worth it for anyone to do it if nobody actually buys anything else.

I do not trust intel to make useful graphics hardware. Their "intel uhd 1 billion" integrated graphics are so bad that they can't even brute force shit 2d games, unlike amd's integrated chipsets that can run most mid range games. And AMD's shooting themselves on the foot by making all their "low end" graphics cards require expensive as frick motherboards so you end up buying an expensive GPU because you already splurged on the motherboard. It may not be optimal for anyone involved, but these buttholes dug their own graves.

>AMD's shooting themselves on the foot by making all their "low end" graphics cards require expensive as frick motherboards
Is that some Windows driver thing? I don't think any of the hardware I'm running is expensive as frick and it all works fine.
The upside is because of china trying to bomb taiwan to the ground, the entire western world is in a frenzy to build semiconductor plants all over the place that can replace them if china does it.
So if we get lucky in the next decade there will be double the semiconductor production if china doesnt go complete moron and we end up with a overproduction of chips and the prices will drop hard.
Maybe, but the chip makers have no incentive to crank out hardware for the NT gaming market if NT gamers don't buy anything from them.
Also a depressing amount of that new capacity will be making 6502s, m6800s and other archaic hardware because they're vital for defense or other vital systems, they probably won't be making modern GPUs.
But hey, maybe we'll see more retro-gaming hardware.

Yeah, your right on that part, most of these wester plants will be shitting out parts for militiary purpose for the first few years and then some if taiwan really gets its shit kicked in by the moronic chinks.

It's a pins thing. They have fewer pins on a newer format. So you end up having to buy a 300 dollar motherboard to use a 150 dollar gpu. a normal person will go "welp, i paid 300 buckaroos for this motherboard, may as well splurge on the card, too!" and i mean the pci pins, not the power pins. If you put amd's budget offerings on a budget motherboard, they run worse than a 1060.

I think the market for $150 GPUs dried up more because that market got taken over by system-on-chip boards.
PCIe with fewer pins has been around for a long time. Just about any gaming board should have at least one slot that supports the full 16 lanes.
Is this some thing where Windows OEMs are crippling AMD systems by not including a full size PCIe slot?

Can't they hire at least a rando fricking weeb to proofread this shit?
Most Asians have never seen a deck that size before.
>Valve advertise and shills the Deck like crazy
>still barely sells more than the N-gage
Is this the biggest failure yet?
It should pass the Dreamcast this year.
Simply unheard of sales numbers for a PC.
Especially a GNU/Linux based PC.
>still barely sells more than the N-gage
No way?
>no tulpa 'eck gf
Steamdeck is perfect for asian markets where most of them live in tiny appartments.
It's one of the reasons why handhelds do so well in japan.
Not to mention the Japanese love digital due to space and convenience reasons.
the tendie fears the 'eck
Japan has giants?
Did they mix the Japanese 'eck up with the African 'eck? No way a Japanese 'ick can cover that whole thing.
Today I saw a jap playing with a Deck on the denentoshi line.
'ig 'eck
Whoa, Japanese houses are TINY (for me)
Deck is the closest thing there is right now to a follow-up to the PS Vita and PSP since Sony won't make another handheld, and the Vita and handhelds in general are a popular niche in Japan. Makes sense.
FLOPPED AND SHITTED
>RTX 4090
>sold literally everywhere
>Deck
>only sells in 1st world countries
>implying anyone but 1st world countries can afford a 4090
I hope she knows she's not cute.
>she
I hope you know that ynbaw
>anon cannot stop thinking about trannies
The fact that nvidia got away with selling the 4xxx series while it was pure dogshit makes me fear for the 5xxx series.
I want to replace my 3060ti but i have no hope for a decent midrage card at affordable prices next gen.
3060ti is already all you need for midrange performance
Playing a game at 4k with HDR and a decent framerate on a oled tv is peak gaming.
Even botw on cemu that doesnt have HDR support is a lot better with everything turned up to 11.
HDR is a scam for goyims that can't just install reshade.
>so AMD isnt really a option
Then you simply have to pay whatever Nvidia dictates to you. You made yourself a captive audience.
This is why it is best to avoid vendor-specific crap until it is standardized well supported.
I expect AMD to catch up next generation, because nvidia has become too wienery with the succes of the 1&2&3&4xxx series.
Nah, i can understand pc gamers shitting on DLSS&FSR, but when playing vidya on a TV, DLSS quality mode works just fine, you cant see the artifacts from the couche.
But on the other side, FSR in yuzu works really well.
>unironically, not even as a joke, using goyscaling and fake frames
at that point why are you even bothering with 4k? just set that thing to 1080p from the get go
Because 1080 looks like shit on a 4k tv.
so does goyscaling, just use it, why even bother with the pretense at that point?
why are you coping so hard with your waste of money on a 4k tv when you're a poorcuck that can't even afford anything above a 60 series card plus the ti cope?
>poorgay
I can buy a 4090ti today if i want too, but i rather save up that money for my trip to italy this summer;
Or the deck in my garden that needs replacement.
>Is this some thing where Windows OEMs are crippling AMD systems by not including a full size PCIe slot?
yea but this isn't goyvidia's fault this time, but intel's
extremely cheap entry level budget boards are goyslop with just either x4 lanes or pcie 3, both which frick amd performance
take a guess what is the type of board most OEMs use these days
>take a guess what is the type of board most OEMs use these days
Intel has owned the OEM market for decades.
This isn't a new thing.
Are you just waking up to the fact Intel and Nvidia are exploiting you for more money?
That's what happens when you only want a competitor to bring prices down without actually buying their hardware.
i know this isn't new goyim, i'm just telling you their newest attempt, x4 pcie 3 lanes
So how is it AMD's fault Intel is degrading their hardware performance?
you're attacking at shadows goyim, i'm on your side
>AMD's shooting themselves on the foot by making all their "low end" graphics cards require expensive as frick motherboards
So how is AMD shooting themselves in the foot if it is Intel crippling their low end motherboards?
>
(You)

The upside is because of china trying to bomb taiwan to the ground, the entire western world is in a frenzy to build semiconductor plants all over the place that can replace them if china does it.
So if we get lucky in the next decade there will be double the semiconductor production if china doesnt go complete moron and we end up with a overproduction of chips and the prices will drop hard.
AMD should make a good product
They do, and then you and the vast majority of NT users justify why you don't buy it.
If all you want competitors for is lower Nvidia prices, nobody is going to compete with Nvidia.
AMD has been better than goyvidia since the RX 5x00 series anon, even the drivers meme not only hasn't been true since then, nvidia is also the one getting more driver issues these days too.
These days they are even on par with raytracing to the point goyvidia has to double down the cope and make pathtracing the next step in the crippleworks cope.
>I expect AMD to catch up next generation
They might be content to sell an RDNA 3.5 '8700' as the top-tier hardware to that market, and offer some new CDNA 4.x + Graphics hardware to the UNIX workstation market.
>but i fell for the goytracing meme, i believe it's the future
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Even if you fell for the goytracing meme amd is still barely behind goyvidia these days unless you cope with the next tier of crippleworks that is pathtracing for even more negligible improvements at the cost of crippling your performance even in nvidia cards not named "4090".
>i believe it's the future
Why did you buy it now then.
Because i needed a new gpu because my rx570 died.
>i believe it's the future, so AMD isnt really a option for that.
Until a feature is fully implemented for consoles, it's not going to be the future. And consoles use AMD.
>he fell for the 4k meme
my condolences
if it were high Hz or HDR i would understand it, but 4k remains a meme and so is 1440p frankly
at the distance you use a TV at there's barely any difference between normal 1080p and 4k
Deck actually passed the 4090 this month in the Survey. It just got split in two, possibly by the LCD/OLED models.
.67 + .19 = .86
4090 is .85.
which ironically proves the valve propaganda of "it's just the same goyim trust me :)" is just that, propaganda, and in fact the oled goydeck is just the goydeck pro
The two identifiers are
AMD AMD Custom GPU 0405
AMD Radeon Graphics (RADV VANGOGH)
So it could also just be some SteamOS update changing whether it gets the hardware ID or the driver ID.
RadV is the GNU/Linux exclusive high-performance AMD Vulkan driver.
Not a fair comparison. The chinese were buying and mutilating so many 4090s for weird AI shit that new laws had to be made. The Steam Deck is purely a game console.
https://www.theverge.com/2023/12/29/24018799/nvidia-4090d-china-slower-us-sanctions
I had a hard time believing that there were millions of people that would actually pay $1500 for a gpu, but that explains it.
>manly tears displays his Deck
I wanted to buy a deck this week but my job didn't pay me 🙁
>but my job didn't pay me 🙁
When you gonna learn to never give your pimp everything? Always hold a little back.
Maybe. Though don’t take marketing stunts like this as proof of the popularity of a thing.
It’s like nft bros taking money out on Times Square ads as proof of how successful their apes are
i guess the japs realized nintendo switch games suck and ps5 isn't any better
What is the laptop/PC model for the person who hates PC Gaming, hates Steam, hates Valve, hates the Steam deck, hates Gabe Newell and wants a totally anti-gaming Laptop/PC?
An ARM MacBook obviously.
Reasons why an Apple MacBook is the ideal option for the person who hates the Gaming PC?
They are binary incompatible with PC games compiled for x86 or AMD64.
Plus standard graphics APIs are no longer supported. So no Vulkan, or anything built with Vulkan like DXVK, or Zink.
Linux passed MacOS in the PC gaming stats for good reason.
very good
What anti-gaming activities and things can be done on an ARM MacBook?
Shitposting on Ganker
I fricking love my Steam Deck. Any game it can't run native I just use sunshine and moonlight to stream it from my 7900x3d/4080 pc. I've been gaming so much I'm actually having fun now and it really helped me get over my graphics and fps snob attitude. I can't wait for steam deck 2.
10/10 thread
We are going to need a bigger 'ick now
