i don't play below 5 and flame is easily the most common because it's a great general purpose weapon
if i get a cryo driller i wait for him to freeze shit which i'll then pop with the shart to make him feel less bad

so much freaking ammo to freeze the dreads and it takes a lot of discipline on the teams part to have their guns ready to burst, god forbid someone brings a flame weapon. meanwhile one little spritz of sewage slows their fat asses down, and on the classic dreads you still do full damage from the front. its so good. if a scout nails a good ifg with your sludge it basically stops time.

im just thrilled theres a second good option for my favorite class vs dreads. it was cryo or bust for a while after they nerfed sticky slowdown vs dreads.
loadout thing really. lot of gunners like to bring the flame and a lot of drillers like cryo. its rare for people to have the brains to not step on each others toes when trying to kill a big monster.

run around and gather bugs behind you, then pop a charged shot in the middle of them
or look for any clump of bugs and shoot at them
i almost never use single shots, charged shots do way more damage over a wide amount of bugs if you use it right

toss up between that and sticky, wide dispersal is gross but sticky is ridiculously ammo efficient and only really drops off if team weapons and shit are actively working against your ability to set things on fire

something about the circular spread of the sludge clicks in my brain way more than the line spread of sticky
Scout has always been the most useless class solely because map generation can and will absolutely frick him more than the other three and at least half of the objectives in the game literally require you to stand your ground which he generally fricking sucks at, this is on top of his usefulness having a weird curve where he's bad for new players because they both lack perks and he teaches bad habits he can get away with because of grapple but also not great at high levels because general game sense lessens the actual need for light and he becomes a glorified medic, nice to have but never really necessary
You can get away with extra drillers, extra gunners, and extra engies because it's always just "more firepower" plus driller is usually enough mobility for 9/10 missions and he provides it for the whole team, scout is okay but that's not enough when every other class is so godtier at their jobs
Scout is terribad at clearing waves but unmatched when it comes to picking off high priority bugs. M1k + Zhukovs ranks among the strongest loadouts in the entire game and I say this as a Gunner main Hurricane is grossly underrated. Call Driller as strong as you like, but he can't do shit about those bugs on the roof that Scout can pop in a split second, or that Oppressor that the Scout just grappled behind and blew up in two seconds of Embed Dets.

funny enough they had to nerf Driller like a week or two after the Wave Cooker dropped because he was capable of annihilating any bug with the unpatched exothermic perk and solo-carrying all on his own while the thing that really gave Scout the kick in the pants he needed was having a simple fire-and-forget for getting bugs off his ass that didn't have a dozen requirements to pop off point-blank (double barrel buff)
I stand by it though, when Scout is necessary he's really necessary and you can feel it, but the issue is the situations where you'd go "I NEED a Scout" are much rarer than ones where you can just make do with another class while still having access to their utility
