The player is allowed to be as cruel as they can be, and the game accommodates it by giving you a special story route where you literally kill everyone. The goofy comic relief skeleton also turns into the strongest force alive.

In Undertale, he got a job at Mettaton's resort hoping to become an actor. In Deltarune, Spamton is desperately trying to get the power of NEO (Mettaton). They both have a insistent closeness to Frisk/Kris, saying they're in the same situation, or insisting on giving their guidance to us.
Susie also uses "they" when referring to the knight. Also, how would the knight be an "it" if it needs to be a lightner to create a fountain? The vessel injected with determination is running around creating fountains? The annoying dog is the knight?
Kris' knife is the third entity, and takes control of him during the twilight hours when reality and dream intersect. In the dark the knife (aka friend) fricks off to the shadows to do shady knight shit.
For anyone who thinks the schizos are not vital to the story, they are the ONLY boss fights that are remembered by the game permanently when you beat them. You could do a whole new save and Seam and the cliff can still remember you fought them before.
Yeah but, they're not something the player should be actively missing out on either. Some anons have argued that if you open jevil's door but don't fight him and take Spamton loaded disk with you that something might happen differently but it's highly likely that's not possible.
Then yeah I can see that getting some re-use later down the line. Perhaps it'll even be necessary to access a different schizo boss.

The key is for a specific door. The loaded disc is compatible with anything that can read it, and even shows to have alternate uses when it refuses to be put into the Spamton Mannequin.
For all we know Ralsei knew before hand. He might not even have to tell Kris to do it. This little adventure is his gift to Kris and Susie and for our enjoyment and he gets new citizens out of it so he'll probably play stupid and defend Kris if Susie starts getting rightfully suspicious
