Reminder that they are releasing chapter 3 to 5 together so you wont see shit until 5 years from now
Problem?
This guy sounds like he knows nothing about game design.
For a guy who "sounds like he knows nothing about game design," Toby-sama sure does have a knack for creating games people love to play. Perhaps your Game Design Studies professor should be taking lessons from him.
>the next batch of chapters STILL aren't released by then >instead, Undertale gets a QoL update that most importantly adds a Hard Mode for the full game >it makes Jevil look like a fricking joke and sprinkles in some more Gaster wienerteasing since people need reminders that he's absolutely going to be involved in Deltarune's main narrative after gaslighting themselves into thinking he's an irrelevant character despite LITERALLY BEING THE IN-UNIVERSE REASON WE CAN PLAY DELTARUNE IN THE FIRST PLACE
all he needs to know is that he has ravenous fans willing to buy new merch every year and provide him with even more money while he rakes in residuals and more
why actually bother putting out content when you can make millions just saying words lmao
Usually the issue is that stealth sections in non-stealth games tend to be slapped together just to add variety. In theory, they are simple to do, but making them fun is another matter.
>toby isn't a thiefchad and he fricking hates stealth games
I have a simple job planned for this evening. Break into Royal Sciences LLC, steal another hack game developer's priceless vaporware, and leave quietly. Toby "Radiation" Fox is out of town visiting Japan, and rumour has it that Temmie Chang went with him, as his waifu. The time is ripe for a bit of burglary.
The front gate of Toby Fox's HQ is always guarded, and the main street is far too exposed. But Hussie tells me there's a better way in...through a pair of bunker doors, more out of the way. No guards, and likely no witnesses to...report me to Toby on Twitter.
The piece Hussie wants is Deltarune Chapter 3- Schizobosses, Goatmom...the usual fanservice. It should command a high price. Toby, like most of his kind, probably keeps his hard drive on the top floor of the place. Close to his heart...and far from his fandom.
No point in waiting. I have Hussie's old sketches of his basement, and everyone who's going to be asleep inside already is. It's time to begin....
Surely someone will revisit the franchise, r-right? And respect it? God, I hope Nightdive at least gives the first 2/3 games the magic touch.

i'm still against remakes and remasters on principle, nightdive ones included, but something like that tomb raider remaster that just got announced for the original trilogy would be fine i guess if they actually did it properly
and no, deltarune STILL won't be finished by the time that happens, because of course it won't
I mean, it isn't a very GAMEPLAY game, now is it? Undertale's battle system was unique, novel and entertaining, but when have you ever seen anyone talk about Deltarune's battle system?
I remember trannies getting angry at me when I said there is no way this game will come out in 2022, they argued that since he is getting a team the development would speed up and it would release next year after chapter 2. Meanwhile in reality it actually got SLOWER KEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK
>It's not slower
Incorrect, he made chapter 2 in 2 years and, as you can see, he didn't finish chapter 3 in 2 years. No, I don't give a frick that he is working on all chapters simultaneously, this means nothing.
So you wasted months in a stealth section just to try it and decide its boring and get rid of it....instead of just conceptualizing the idea with pen and paper in 5 minutes and realizing its not fun?
Is this guy moronic
he's calling you dunning kruger moron for thinking prototyping on pen and paper is a good replacement for actual playtesting
any game developer could tell you how moronic you are
Every chapter will now suffer this level of scope creep, but each chapter will still cover the same proportion of main plot as originally intended. Expect the final chapter around 2036.
>5% maximum of the newslrtter is talking about the next chapters >the rest is just Tobt humblebragging, sucking himself off about beimg able to sell merch, collab with musicians and autographing
Frick this dog
fricking hell is he just adding one pixel a day? literally how does ~4 hours of playtime translate to literal years of development? I think Toby is moronic bros
well let me be the first to say REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>Chapter 3 is... *yaaaawn*... not quite done.......... It was almost finished.... but now it's almost nearing completion......
>Anyways, here's a collab I did with Zun. I worked on Touhou. And Zun made a remix of one of my songs. This is a dream come true. I'm so lucky. I get to work with my heroes. All my dreams as a small indie dev come true every day. I get to meet all these cool people that you wish you could meet and they love my work and tell me how great I am.
I couldn't even blame him if he dipped. He made one of the most beloved indie games of all time, became a multimillionaire off of it, lives in grorious nippon and gets to hang out with all the cool japanese devs, and then he has to contend with one of the most mentally ill fanbases of all time and just spends ages grifting them for merch dollars.
>>He made 2 chapters in 7-8 (considering he started after UT) FRICKING years >>He has to make 3-5 more >KEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK
Hahahaha >Deltarune fans when their master Toby Fox anounces he needs two more decades for chapter 3
>"Don't worry guys! Toby has a full team, settled on an engine and his wrist is all better! Development will be quick and breezey!" >still taking 3 years per chapter apparently while he fricks around with a bunch of nip artists
By the time this shit comes out when our sperms turn to dust it's going to be a pretty underwhelming game. The Duke Nukem Forever of Indie Games.
Oh cool we got the actual worst possible outcome
How many people do you think killed themselves over this now? Or maybe they finally got over obsessing over this hack, for the best
His games are not hard to make in the technical sense.
How the frick is it taking this fricking long to finish the 3rd chapter?
Reminder chapter 1 was released 5 years ago.
>development is going well (laughs). also, more cut content >also, here's another collab I'm doing >Thanks, everyone! See you next year for the next UNDERTALE Anniversary!
I have never met an Undertale fan irl nor anyone that even heard knows what Undertale is tho. It's extremely obscure compared to other indie games like Minecraft. Even my grandma knows what Minecraft is.
The post I was replying to claimed >UT is one of the most popular games ever
But now it's unfair to compare it to other successful indie titles? As expected from an undertroon tho
Minecraft is one of the biggest games ever made, so of course it's not THAT big. But it's quite popular. Sans in Smash and all. Every gamer I know is at least aware of Undertale even if they haven't played it themselves.
Sorry for not having that shit memorized, I assumed Tetris was still the biggest game ever.
Frick it, Tetris is more popular I'd argue. >b-but Mineycrafta has more sales
Tetris sales are only tracking official versions, countless more people have played unofficial copies. On everything from graphing calculators to flash game sites. Everyone in the world recognizes Tetris, people past a certain age don't know Minecraft unless their kids play it.

No, Minecraft is more popular. Do you think zoomers + alphas know what Tetris is? No. Meanwhile Minecraft is popular among Millenials, zoomers and alphas.

Gen X doesn't play video games and they are dying out.
Considering Chapter 3 took two full years to make, I think it's safe to assume we're looking at a UT 10th anniversary release for chapters 3, 4, and 5. If you expect anything earlier than that then you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.
Well obviously that means that Chapter 3, taking into account all the time it's taking and all the manpower going into it as compared to Chapter 1/2, is gonna be uhhhhh like 3 and a half chapters worth of stuff packed into just one chapter.
Well, obviously this means that Toby is just changing things around, as you can tell by how he's talking about a canned section of Chapter 3, and how he is also talking about only Chapter 3 in this newsletter which obviously means we are getting Chapter 3 standalone SOON.
That will be a good enough cope for the local schizos here and the fanatics on Twitter, for the next 3 months until we get the next newsletter mentioning that they are almost finished with Chapter 3's localization after they had to re-do all of it due to all the changes done to the chapter
Eh, even if he released it he already said Chapter 2 was the largest chapter in the game. Nothing in the newsletter hinted at him intending to release Chapter 3 by itself and even if he released it tomorrow it's still a far cry from what he promised before. He said we would have to pay for the next release, is he intending to only charge us for one Chapter? I highly doubt it. Seems like weak cope to me.
Does anyone else feel indifferent about Deltarune after this update? I started losing interest about a year ago, but after seeing Toby hasn't even finished the 3rd chapter I'm not even disappointed. Toby should just cancel the game and do whatever side projects interest him at this point.
nah, i'm perfectly fine with this. because i've been putting my focus onto other games and my own over the past year. if i were to focus on deltarune so much, yeah i'd probably feel really indifferent about this.
Copetimistically, they will release it any time now and it will have new interesting lore
Realistically, Toby never intended for that ending to be a thing so only the video for Freedom exists
That doesn't make much sense. Ideally you want to record both endings since either of them could've won.
[...]
Who cares about that mental ward anyways.
>Why
Im sure a few of them post in these threads. You might be one of them for all I know.
they are in a state of absoulute depression and sadness, im convinced atleast one of them will shoot themselves in the fricking face tonight from the sheer disappointment of this years status update
>Cut to December 2024 >/UTG/ has been anticipating the grand release of Chapters 3 4 and 5. >The newsletter releases >Toby explains that due to his collaborations with several indie devs and Nintendo, Deltarune is still in development >"Thank you all for your support, don't forget to check out our merch and we'll see you all next year!" >/UTG/ in utter disrepair, hopes and dreams shattered >Several anons make a suicide pact due to immense grief >/UTG/ dies en masse
Bravo Toby
I would make a meme with Jay saying infinite trash surrounded by pictures if all the collaborations Toby's done for the past 2 years in lue of completing his game but im too lazy.
this ost and some screenshots they've posted online are currently all that we have.
they probably have a discord where they post progress but im not gonna go there lol
What's unfortunate is a lot of those fangames rely on the source material for content, now they'll have to make their own stuff since at this rate Deltarune won't release by the end of this decade.
honestly with the concept of deltarune is not too bad,
you can whip out your old toy box if you have one and make a Dark World out fo that and high possibility there is that it it'll be a vibrant and good setting
Ohhh..making me wait WAIT WAIT AGAIN aren't you?
All day and night waiting tick-tock tick-tock the clock just keeps going and doesn't stop, I'm getting old Toby, if you don't hurry up I might just DIE HAHAHAHAH
Wouldn't that be funny. Toby...Toby...You don't understand, your little game....it's all I HAVE...I...NEED....IT...NOW
Hurry up toby tick-tock tick-tock tick-tock time is running out for both of us.
The next Schizo boss is (You)
The longer it takes to come out the better. Not looking forward to witnessing it do its usual song and dance of taking over the entire internet and flooding every single space with its autism for a year or so yet again.
I don't mean to make you look like a moron, but do you understand how little effort goes into selling merch as opposed to creating videogames? It wouldn't surprise me if Toby's contribution begins and ends with telling people what he is and isn't ok with releasing. It's less money made compared to selling games, but it's low effort when you have the staff to effectively run the business for you.
>nah man Chapter 3 is completely done and Chapters 4 and 5 are also near completion too man don't you read the newsletters bro it's clear he's almost finished bro no I don't care that he said in the last newsletter that he said he wasn't even done with chapter 3 bro it's clear that he's almost finished with the chapters bro
I SPENT THE LAST TWO WEEKS ARGUING WITH YOU Black folk THAT WE AREN'T GETTING SHIT, NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THE CHAPTERS HAS BEEN COMPLETED YET, TOBY HAS BEEN FRICKING CLEAR ABOUT THIS BUT YOU FRICKING SCHIZOPHRENICS KEEP SEEING THINGS.
WELL, THERE YOU FRICKING HAVE IT, I FRICKING TOLD YOU DAYS AGO, YOU GOT HYPED UP FOR FRICKING NOTHING AND GOT A MASSIVE DISSAPOINTMENT, SAVOR IT, IT WON'T BE THE LAST
HE SAID CHAPTER 3 IS ALMOST DONE!!!! THAT MEANS CHAPTERS 4 & 5 ARE ALSO ALMOST DONE!!!! MID 2024 RELEASE DATE AT THE LATEST, YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE ME!!!!!!!!
>work for weeks (possibly months) on a cool stealth section of chapter 3 >...hmmmm nah let's just scrap it
no wonder it's taking so long with toby scrapping stuff at the VERY LAST MINUTE.
prepare for him saying the entire dark world just "doesn't feel right" and chapter 3 taking a 2 year delay
To be fair, it's not uncommon for developers to make some segment or feature, only to then scrap it for a reason or another. Basically everyone has done it, but the reason for the scrapping can vary (not fun enough, couldn't bugfix before release, didn't have time to fully implement, etc etc).
An extremely stupid set of circumstances. I was brought to Canada as a kid illegally from russia. Finally got tired of living without documents (there was no way to legalize, i tried). Decided to go back to russia. Went back, settled in and got my passport, was gonna travel all over. Covid hit, got trapped in one place ago. Then war broke out, so i decided to say frick it and just started traveling while I can. Probably gonna go east asia next.

Much like how you learn languages by reading and speaking them, you learn programming by doing it. No ifs or buts, just get to it.

nta, but it always feels like doing those "how to draw mickey mouse step by step" drawing tutorials, following instructions 1:1 and being left with no further understanding of the subject
9 months ago
Anonymous
It can feel like that at times, but you'll understand that complexity if you take the plunge and dedicate some time to it. Like when you learn languages, you'll occasionally come across a phrase, bits of grammar or vocabulary that might trip you up, but you can always look up what it all means.

What even is the equivalent of "interacting with the language" - is it just doing endless random projects online? Do they do that in schools? That's what I don't get, the gap between following instructions and doing it for money
9 months ago
Anonymous
Just doing it, and reading about it if need be.
You can't learn it if you don't interact with it. How do you interact with programming? You guessed it, doing it.
Don't be ashamed if some things don't click immediately, but at the end of the day you can't just avert your eyes from doing it. Do a simple beginner program, like a command line application that asks you to input your name. Then start picking things up, one at a time (eg. "how do I play a sound?", "how do I display an image?", "how do I read inputs from a keyboard or controller?"), and use those as building blocks to further push your learning along.
Just do it.

That kind of puts things into perspective, it's such a basic idea, it just felt like such a sprawling and intimidating subject

different anon, but what I did was:
- Come up with a project which is small enough scope that you know it will be possible. But also something you actually want. I had a minecraft mod idea I wanted.
- Write down a list of essential features, the minimum your project needs to function and perform its basic purpose. Cut out anything else for later.
- Do a programming course till you understand what you're looking at. I used mooc.fi which is free and was pretty good when I took it.
- Work on crossing things off your list until you're done. Look up things as you go.
There is absolutely 0 hype for more deltarune thanks to Toby fricking around. He has to rely on undertale nostalgia points to get any clout, that and his music contracting.
I told you frickers not to get your hopes up. Of course the section about Toby working with the creator of touhou got as much writing if not more than the yearly status update. Facepalm
>supposed to be doing chapter 3,4, and 5 as one pay2play bundle unless they changed plans without me know? >still not even done chaper3
2032 RELEASE DATE CONFIRMED
no
most new games nowadays are not that good.
and even if there exists some games that i might enjoy, i won't be able fully enjoy them until i finish deltarune
>not playing undertale fangames & burning yourself out by reading countless AU comics
most of which are not good.
sorry that i don't wanna play undertale genocide sans fight #13243432
or read a AU comic where everything's the same except snowdin is only slightly more blue
I think he's gonna eventually change his mind because if he takes fricking 2-3 years PER chapter to finish them then this piece of shit won't come out until 2027. >you now realize that autists like Pine will probably finish Deltarune before toby ever does
My copium is that chapter 3 is a specifically experimental and wacky chapter compared to the more standard 4&5, and it's taking longer because they have to put a lot more thought into it's game design. And Toby scrapping shit at the last second.
Most of them were false flagging because the consensus was almost unanimous that Toby wast releasing anything this year. That said, there are a lot of schizos who actually believe chapter 3 4 5 are coming out next year which is hilariously delusional.
Hell, we probably would've been better off not knowing the game existed period until it was complete.
If Chapter 2 never happened, people would have even more reason to assume Deltarune's dead in the water, and we'd still be stuck with the most popular outcome of the Chapter 1 stinger being "Kris turns evil and he kills everyone so Sans can fight him with a Megalovania battle theme that's actually a Rock My Emotions remix."
I don't even think this is about delayed gratification, there are tards in this thread that are only looking forward to chapter 7 in life and once it drops they'll suicide. Toby just groomed himself an unbelievably autistic fanbase.
I planned suicide at the end of this year because that’s something I’ve promised myself years ago, even before undertale came out, but I got another thing to look forward to for next few years. I hope life will keep giving you things to look forward to even after deltarune gets finished
How much time will pass before toby acknowledges that this game is taking forever to complete? Depending on when he started development for deltarune he's hitting close to 6 or 7 years which is about half the time it took for duke nukem forever to come out. We're only at chapter two of seven.
>How much time will pass before toby acknowledges that this game is taking forever to complete?
Didn't he say it right away? Like nobody actually expected it to be released within a decade, right?
Yeah it's actually gonna be more than 7 years, I can see Chapters 3-5 dropping at the 7th year mark, but there is no way we're getting all chapters in 7 years, so Toby's gonna have to go back on his promise of only taking a maximum of 7 years on a project. Well, that or just cancel the game, which would be pretty bad.
Considering Toby's entire footing into game development beyond ROMhacking was for the sole purpose of making this schizokino fever dream of a game ending from 2011 come to life, he's absolutely going to keep going until he sees it through.
That prior statement about 7 years maximum probably held up for any other game he could've made, but Deltarune is a completely different story now that we have the context of the 2019 Nintendo interview.
In fact, technically speaking, he already broke 7 years by the time that interview came around considering he first attempted to make Deltarune in 2012 before temporarily giving up upon realizing he needed to get much more experience, budget and networking.
Yeah but I wouldn't say serious development didn't start until a few years before Chapter 1's release, that being said assuming development of Chapter 1 started in 2016, he has already broken the 7th year mark, but to be honest by 7 years I think he meant 7 years starting from Chapter 1's release, which he's still going to be break, so.
Deltarune.
Silksong has to restart development entirely because of the Unity drama, and Prime 4 is vaporware because of Kensuke Tanabe's unrivaled autistic standards.
Hey, if we’re lucky, the SMRPG and TTYD remakes will do really well and Nintendo will wonder why they let Tanabe keep making creative decisions on their products, when all he seems to do is piss people off and make enemies out of longtime fans Please?
Yeah, i'm gonna play another trashworld exploration game where killing is completely unnecessary, Postal 4. It seems like they've actually sorta fixed it, it's pretty fun aside from the literal shit writing.
from the way toby is describing it, chapter 3 seems to be really different from the previous chapters and perhaps anything else in the game? it might be more gameplay oriented than anything else, which is why it's taking so long.
In 2024 TOBY FRICKING wiener gonna pull out an Andrew Hussie and just say that chapter 4 and 5 are almost done and to PLEASE UNDERSTANDU, SMALL INDIE DEV TEAM just to wait for a whole year again, so that stupid dog has an excuse to do nothing for the 10 years celebration of Undertale
There is no way in hell anything is gonna release in 2024 anon, Chapter 3 isn't even finished right now, what makes you think we could get 3 whole chapters next year?
In all honesty
I'm disappointed by the newsletter but I'm glad they're not spoiling anything to maintain interest + that they are developing the game slowly and meticulously to ensure maximum kino
surely toby isn't a moron and realizes how long it'll take right?
spending a decade on a PORTION of a game is mental.
it's almost fated that he'll just say whatever and release it standalone >doomers:he won't do it ag-
shut the hell up
just get a hobby and touch some grass
I'm glad that Deltarune is one of the games that ended up being good despite Toby delaying the first chapter for years to make a whole another game first. Oh wait, that doesn't count because we were not aware of it so we couldn't doompost about it, my bad.

where did i mention anything about deltarune moron?
i was talking about my issues with the quote
>the chapters won't come out this year >the chapters won't come out for the next few years >the chapter won't come out this decade >you must be funny to think chapter 3 will comeout in the next 20 years
That's assuming nothing bad happens to Toby that could render him totally incapable of continuing development.
Odds are he's the only person who truly knows how Deltarune is supposed to go too, so if something fricked up happens, that's it. Shit's done. His vision is now impossible to achieve.
Omocat just *barely* managed to finish Omori in like 8 years. I do find it funny that it will take Toby MORE time to finish deltarune than it did omocat to finish Omori considering the development of Omori was a complete shitshow.

I mean, it would probably be Temmie if anything, right?
I remember back during Chapter 1 and also Chapter 2's release people often made joke about having to wait 7 years, I remember some people saying how that was just a worst case scenario estimate and the full game would probably come out sooner. I wonder how those people are feeling right now.
i was one of those people.
i feel like my expectations in toby were broken and thrown in the trash.
unironically the newsletter is the biggest black pill toby has made.
it just shows us how little he cares about making deltarune when like it only takes 10% of the newsletter (while generic jap dev collab takes over 90% if email)
I hope you understand there will be daily threads for at least an entire month when the next chapters release. It'll be a 4-year minimum edging session by then.
I don't think toby has a clear vision for the middle of the game. He knows what the ending will be like, but he doesn't really know how it will lead up to it.
>Has entire team working under him >Has a rabid fanbase where he can steal ideas from and not get shat on if he does >Soundtrack made up of songs that were “inspired” (and totally not plagiarized) from other intellectual properties >Still unfinished
Yep, that’s typical Toby Fricks behavior. How shall we proceed with mocking this trannie, yeah-yeah beebis ass dweeber?
Are there even any fangames of prominent scale that actually pulled through? Yellow's the only one that comes to mind considering completion's at the horizon, but beyond that I couldn't tell you shit about anything that's promising aside from DONTFORGET and Deltatraveler.
Toby is lucky most of the Undertale/Delta Rune fanbase is as rabid as it is, any other indie title would not be able to expect their fans to stay excited for years and years between releases that are only a ~3 hour long experiences.
And if you were an adult when chapter 1 released, you're steadily approaching 30
And Toby was a shit-eating edgelord teenager who, before getting a gig in Hussie's basement composing for Homestuck, made his original claim to fame be an Earthbound hack where Dr. Andonuts calls you a homosexual.
And if you were an adult when chapter 1 released, you're steadily approaching 30
>18 when Undertale released and fresh out of high school >21 when Deltarune came out >26 now and still jerking off to toriel, undyne, chara, kris, susie and noelle
It has to get old at some point, right
i don't get it?
a 2 year hiatus was basically enough to forever remove homestuck from cultural phenomenon status and only die hard fans followed the comic to the end.
how come deltarune going on 4+ years does nothing?
are people nowadays just bigger dev simps?
Because Homestuck's quality dipped a lot while Undertale/Deltarune haven't yet
It's like Game of Thrones becoming irrelevant to the masses because of the dogshit ending overnight, if something becomes brutally shit then people stop caring
fair enough.
though seeing the dev hell chapter 3 is going through it honestly feels like toby is fighting an uphill battle with how much scope creep the chapter is getting and all the stuff getting removed last second
I'm going to say this with next to no homestuck knowledge so feel free to say how it doesn't fit, but I shall guess anyway.
One, it's obvious we're in for the long haul. Chapter 2 was not going to be a demo at first, and once we got that, we were told 3-5 were going to come in one package.
Two, Deltarune is a video game, and I believe people today, outside of live service games, would rather games come out slower and polished than quickly and unpolished. Also, webcomics are more viable to frequently update than singleplayer story-based video games, so that also effects expectations.
Again, feel free to tell me if Homestuck's situation is different than I've assumed here.
so if you really know about homestuck then i'll just say that it (was) a great webcomic that manages to do multimedia thing well.
some chapters are animated/ some are even full GAMES that you can play and discover easter eggs.
there is a reason toby became such a fan that he started making music for it.
but TLDR
andrew hussie wanted to make a full adventure video game and decided to open a kickstarter.
it got fully funded in under 24 hours.
hussie decided to contact a AAA studio to develop the game.
though as luck would have that very same studio got contacted by another company who gave them the chance to develop a new kingsquest game (lol)
now this game dev studio (The Odd Gentlemen)
decided to just scam hussy and develop the kingsquest game instead.
hussy comes up to them a few months later asking them what the hell is going on? >lol we wanted to make a game for a IP we know about >here's 10% of the money you gave us now piss off (keep in mind hussie gave them 4 million dollars for the game)
all of this stuff basically sucked out ages from hussie's life span since he basically got scammed out of nearly 4 million dollars and he has to make a game is a few years.
so that's the story on how homestuck got stuck in a hiatus
Cool video, took me until the end to notice how old it is. Are there any more recent developments? Videos about any recent developments you can recommend?
>hussy comes up to them a few months later asking them what the hell is going on? >>lol we wanted to make a game for a IP we know about >>here's 10% of the money you gave us now piss off (keep in mind hussie gave them 4 million dollars for the game)
What the frick? That sounds like liable grounds for suing.
honestly he could've tried suing them.
but he was a young 20s american who didn't even have a real job.
so yeah... he's not the type of guy to know about law stuff
>What the frick? That sounds like liable grounds for suing.
Yeah and if any of that was true it certainly would be. It's come out through leaks over the years that Hussie was really just an incompetent moron.
this is not what happened, recently it came out that hussie didn't give TOG the game design document and put them in charge of act 7, so they started working on an actual game simultaneously. ipgd is one of hussie's friends and lied for him.
not that guy, but the fact that they spent hussie's money on their own project makes them unambiguously wrong no matter what hussie did to screw things up
So uh, where's the Silenced ending? Like, I expected the status update to just be "yeah we're still working on it" and nothing else, but I thought they'd also release the other ending to the sweepstakes?
>In 2 years toby will have spent 10ish years working on fricking deltarune >And it still definitely wont be done by then >We might not even have chapter 3-5 by then
After this my expectations for Chapter 3 are through the roof, with how much time it's taking to make and with how Toby has said that it'll be pretty different from the previous chapters, I expect it to be a unique experience that I have never seen in any other game, and if it's isn't I'm gonna be extremely disappointed.
Honestly I was planning on buying the game when it comes out, but I think I might instead pirate and see if I like it first, and then buying it.
I was thinking of replaying Chapter 1 and 2, I didn't expect a release but I did expect a more substantial update and a more or less confirmation that the next chapters would come out sometime in 2024, but after reading this newsletter I have a hard time believing that there's gonna be a release at any point earlier than 2025, and I'd go as far as to say that I can even see a 2026 release, and frankly if I replay the games now by that point I'll probably have already forgotten the intricacies of the story and my gaming skills will have atrophied, so I don't think I will, plus when I reach the end it'll probably leave a bad taste in my mouth given that we have to wait atleast 2 more years for anything new, so overall I think I'll leave the replay to sometime in the future.
Not him but the game will come out eventually, it's just a given, unless Toby just straight up fricking dies in the middle of development, which could happen all things considered.
I think Temmie would be the only one qualified for it, it seems like she's the closest to Toby and besides Toby himself she's probably the one that knows the most about how the game is supposed to go, though I'm sure the rest of the team also knows it, but I think Temmie would be the best fit for directing.
well the possibility is always there
if toby randomly fricking dies, then deltarune will never release
but in the case he doesn't, the game will obviously eventually come out
and considering their current pace + the news that they're developing faster and faster i'm sticking with my 2026 prediction
The only interesting thing in the newsletter was that the guy who designed the robot trio also designed Tasque Manager. And I suppose the whole ZUN segment was nice but it was unrelated.
I might be wrong as I am a big newbie regarding Deltarune, but how can it take so much time given that its innate gameplay is basically shallow? Devs tend to struggle to create a story/universe that matches the gameplay, but in Deltarune it's rather a pretext with fun gimmicks from time to time. Basically I feel like Deltarune is a sandbox in which they shall build an interesting setup story-wise, so I don't get how can they take so long.
Deltarune is being made by a handful of people, with only one autist having the entire game planned out in his head.
It's pretty much the same reason why Silksong is taking so long
Actually, I have trouble understanding how they can struggle so much. Unlike Undertale, Deltarune seems to be the kind of game where gameplay is just a pretext that aids immersion and allows a storyline to unfold. So I don't know how they manage it. It must be the popular indie game syndrome: They know they have the safety net of their community, so they can spend weeks on seemingly trivial decisions. Unless there's a huge, very complex narrative mechanic involving numerous connections that requires ensuring everything is coherent, but I find it hard to believe.
I wouldn't call the gameplay shallow, it's not complex but I think it's more involved that quite a lot of games out there.
Not every game needs to have Baldur's Gate level of complexity in order to be engaging. Hollow Knight is a very simple game but I found it far more fun than most games that try to squeeze in as many mechanics as they can.
I'm not saying its a drawback. Just that they don't have to melt their brain on how to create an universe and chapters that perfectly fits its gameplay. I would say it's the opposite, thus I still don't grasp how can they take so much time from what we know.
>I have trouble understanding how they can struggle so much
I suggest trying to make a game yourself, because you talk like someone who has no idea what he's talking about.
>'Uh, do it yourself if you're not satisfied.'
But my dear, a video game company is still a business like any other. And they seem to heavily rely on the fact that they are funded not by shareholders or private investments, but by a very emotionally attached fanbase.
>I have trouble understanding how they can struggle so much
The truth is they've never made a game like this before. Toby has no experience managing a team - Undertale was completely different, since it was mostly him, Temmie and like two other people. I'm not a game dev and I know frick all about programming, but I'm pretty damn sure that all this stuff Toby wants to add to the game must be a pain in the ass to implement. Maybe I'm coping but I'd like to think this will be their biggest hurdle and chapters 6 and 7 will be a breeze.
Though I'm not saying they're scamming people, but as some other anons have pointed out, in my opinion, he's sticking to his solitary and somewhat autistic development habits when he should be evolving his approach. It must be slowing down all the processes, but on the other hand, they know people will wait, so in the end, they don't really have to answer to anyone (except if one day the funds start to run really low).
>they don't really have to answer to anyone (except if one day the funds start to run really low).
I'm honestly convinced that time and time again, not having anyone to answer to can be just as detrimental as some meddling management.

yeeeep
just like anything in life it's only good if you somehow get the middle option.
too much freedom is just as bad as little to no freedom.
toby really should've hired an experienced indie director to lead the whole thing and atleast take care of all the middle work

It can be, it's like how restrictive engine can push you do some pretty creative stuff where as a open-ended one can make you lazy as frick. Excellence is a habit, we are what we do

it's absolutely true. if you don't have deadlines and someone to hold you to them, you're gonna struggle much more to get shit done in an efficient timeframe (unless you're a god of motivation and time management)

In that case I'm gonna bite his dick off so it never comes out.
>but I'm pretty damn sure that all this stuff Toby wants to add to the game must be a pain in the ass to implement
we he sure as hell isn't grateful for the work his team does for him if he's gonna just trash weeks long work and a finished portion of the chapter just because he "doesn't feel it's right"
Deltarune is being made by a handful of people, with only one autist having the entire game planned out in his head.
It's pretty much the same reason why Silksong is taking so long
coding undertale/deltarune's battles is a hell for any programmer
every attack is basically a whole small game in terms of coding used (let alone the bigger attacks that final bosses/secret bosses use)
Not every game needs to have Baldur's Gate level of complexity in order to be engaging. Hollow Knight is a very simple game but I found it far more fun than most games that try to squeeze in as many mechanics as they can.
Lots of copium and weird takes in this thread, lol
Did people genuinely expected Chapter 3 to release this year? After it being said multiple times that 3, 4, 5 will release together? I do prefer chapter by chapter release myself, but its been clear that Toby isn't doing this.
Complaining about the newsletter talking about other stuff, my buddy in Angel, you were the one who chose upper tiers. As for merch, it is clearly being sold well and now that Toby has a team he needs to pay them for the development.
"No mention of chapter 4 and 5?" - yes, Summer newsletter confirmed they were still focusing on Chapter 3, with only bullets and puzzles being made for later chapters. It also stated that the last area was being made, which guess what - Toby just confirmed to have been finished. So it took them under 2.5 months to finish a zone size of Queen's Mansion for comparison, so here's an estimation of how quickly the development goes. Assuming it is over by winter, would make Chapter 3 take 2 years of development. If they would manage to half the development time then 2025 release seems plausible. If the development time stays the same, then chapters 3-4-5 are by 2027 and potentially chapters 6 and 7 for Undertale's 15th anniversary. Oof.
I do however agree that something's off about Chapter 3 not being finished yet. The scrapped stealth mission section makes me feel that the chapter's production is in a weird place, you shouldn't remove a mechanic this late into development.
Toby is a typical wasted potential indie developer who becomes a multi-millionare overnight and still develops games exactly the same way he did before, incredibly slowly
Hire some people to work for you
>start playing Deltarune in 2018 >6 more chapters >3 years each >have to wait until 2036 to finish playing Deltarune
What are the chances both Toby and I survive until then?
basically one of the top heads at the gamemaker team said they were working on a new feature for the engine that allows you to run multiple EXEs for a single game.
and that they were specifically working on this because toby asked for it.
Feels to me that could just be some sort of a launcher thing, where you have some main application for picking the chapter, and then you have a separate exe for each chapter. This would allow him to frick around with the engine specifics for each chapter individually, instead of having to tardwrangle everything in one, and hope something doesn't break between chapters.
It is, you can still find the messages on their server and there's a guide on the gamemaker website about this new feature which even contains a game called "chapter3" for an example name.

so when will fans recreate the stealth in a fangame?
we now know there is music it that the [definitely not the midnight crew] are enemies you're gonna avoid.
it also probably has something to do with tenna
reminder that toby finished chapter 2 in under 2 years (alot of the time was spent wasted on trying moving the game to unity LMAO)
so chapter 3 taking this long has no excuse.
he ALSO said that chapter 2 was the biggest chapter in the whole game so WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?
>so chapter 3 taking this long has no excuse.
my main cope is that he's working on all 3 chapters simultaneously and that he's nearly finished with all 3 of them.
But again that's just pure cope, I think he is just lazy and has poor work ethic. Add in a lack of any real deadlines and him and the team have a pass to take fricking forever where as if you lit a fire under their ass then they could probably do it way quicker
I thought the intention was for chapters 1 and 2 to be released individually, for free, and then 3 - End were supposed to all be released at once as a paid package
it was supposed to be >chapter 1 free demo >chapter 2-7 all at once
then toby walked it back and changed it to >chapter 1+2 free demo >chapter 3-5 at once >chapter 6+7 at once
And beyond that he's now just talking about chapter 3 without mentioning 4 or 5? Meaning he's probably changed his mind again and 3 will be individual too?
wew
it was supposed to be >chapter 1 free demo >chapter 2-7 all at once
then toby walked it back and changed it to >chapter 1+2 free demo >chapter 3-5 at once >chapter 6+7 at once
I don't believe Toby's actually said chapters after 5 exist, people just assumed so from the game files.
My fricking dude the chapter selection menu shows 7 chapters if memory serves correctly. I wouldn't be shocked if we get a chapter 0 or some shit inbetween the wait for 6/7
i could see toby releasing 3 alone and then 4+5 as a duo.
it's obvious that doing 3 WHOLE CHAPTERS at once is way too much for toby and the team to handle.
doing 2 at once seems more realistic
i was gonna wait until the game came out to play it, at least ch3-5, but im just gonna play the demo right now, i just hope my save transfers over to the paid game
pretty badly. Like this is literally the absolute worst outcome. chapter 3 STILL isn't done, like if he said "chapter 3 is done but we are committed to the 3-4-5 release" then it would have at least felt like some progress is being made, but no, chapter 3 still isn't fricking done. it's been 2 years since chapter 2 dropped, and we aren't even 1 chapter closer.
and then to top it all off, we don't get fricking shit this year. no spamton sweepstakes type event that reveals some more lore, not even a fricking status update like hes done every year before this, where he shows off screens of the next chapters.
I knew that expecting a chapter to release was some next level copium high, but I didn't think development was going so terribly that they still haven't finished 1 chapter in 2 years.
Hard to say how much that set them back, since we aren't exactly told how fleshed out the segment was before being scrapped. The music track sounds fine enough, but who knows, maybe Toby spent only a day or two on it
It's not uncommon for developers to start working on features or segments in their games, only to remove them later for a variety of reasons, but the timeframe in which those are done can vary a lot.
I dont really have anything else positive going on in general so I guess not the best.
At least Pikmin 4 was good and the TTYD remake was a genuine shock to my core, but a few good games can only patch up general bad stuff so much.
Fricking awfully.
I knew I was setting myself up for disappointment with my Christmas release idea but I was at least expecting the newsletter to be better than this, even without much info on Deltarune, or to get the Silenced ending or something. Nothing. Most of the fun stuff from the other newsletters is gone because (yawn) writing is sooo tiring, the "something small" actually was merch, the sleeping joke was for merch, it was nothing but merch. When trying to be more realistic I was expecting 3 to be completed, MAYBE 4 but not 5, but now we know 3 isn't even done. Considering the newsletter calls the Deltarune "news" the Status Update we might not even get a true one so this is the absolute fricking worst of outcomes, it's depressingly bad.
You deserve this, there was zero fricking evidence that Chapter 3 was finished, but you still kept believing in your delusions, now you pay the price for it.
>continuing to work on chapter 3
>>>>>>>>>>>>Can't say it's finished yet
i think i hate toby
Problem?
For a guy who "sounds like he knows nothing about game design," Toby-sama sure does have a knack for creating games people love to play. Perhaps your Game Design Studies professor should be taking lessons from him.
It's called having the autism of Homestuck in vidya form
Reminder that they are releasing chapter 3 to 5 together so you wont see shit until 5 years from now
and the game STILL wouldn't be done
It's over.
Late 2024 release
Forget about deltarune
late 2026 release*
Sept 2025 (UNDERTALE 10th Anniversary) makes the most sense imo
>the next batch of chapters STILL aren't released by then
>instead, Undertale gets a QoL update that most importantly adds a Hard Mode for the full game
>it makes Jevil look like a fricking joke and sprinkles in some more Gaster wienerteasing since people need reminders that he's absolutely going to be involved in Deltarune's main narrative after gaslighting themselves into thinking he's an irrelevant character despite LITERALLY BEING THE IN-UNIVERSE REASON WE CAN PLAY DELTARUNE IN THE FIRST PLACE
>undertale is 8 years old
This guy sounds like he knows nothing about game design.
all he needs to know is that he has ravenous fans willing to buy new merch every year and provide him with even more money while he rakes in residuals and more
why actually bother putting out content when you can make millions just saying words lmao
>Stealth sections aren't fun
Nah, I think he does
piss off
stealth sections are cool
it's just most devs are plebs and don't know how to do it correctly
I also think stealth sections suck, could you give me an example of some good ones?
No, stealth games are fun, stealth sections within non-stealth games are dogshit 100% of the time.
t. Never played Metal Gear.
Metal Gear is actually built around stealth though. It's trying to cram stealth segments into a non-stealth game that pretty much always sucks.
Holy shit, a random Thief Chad. I kneel.
don't mess with us thiefchads, we're USED to being extremely disappointed by shitty videogames that take ages to release
No shit, Deltarune doesn't feel like a game. His specialty is atmosphere
I mean, it isn't a very GAMEPLAY game, now is it? Undertale's battle system was unique, novel and entertaining, but when have you ever seen anyone talk about Deltarune's battle system?
ITS FRICKING OVER
I remember trannies getting angry at me when I said there is no way this game will come out in 2022, they argued that since he is getting a team the development would speed up and it would release next year after chapter 2. Meanwhile in reality it actually got SLOWER KEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK
It's not slower, it's still basically on pace. It's been 3 years for each subsequent release, so next september to october is the deadline.
>It's not slower
Incorrect, he made chapter 2 in 2 years and, as you can see, he didn't finish chapter 3 in 2 years. No, I don't give a frick that he is working on all chapters simultaneously, this means nothing.
cope. its not coming until 2026 MINIMUM, maybe later
WHERE THE FRICK IS THE FRICKING SPAMTON SWEEPSTAKES ALTERNATE ENDING
wtf
It'll be out when it's out
So you wasted months in a stealth section just to try it and decide its boring and get rid of it....instead of just conceptualizing the idea with pen and paper in 5 minutes and realizing its not fun?
Is this guy moronic
Have you ever made a game?
>if you are not a chef you cant criticize if they serve you slop
he's calling you dunning kruger moron for thinking prototyping on pen and paper is a good replacement for actual playtesting
any game developer could tell you how moronic you are
I dont even need paper I can do it in my head
>its stealth a good idea
>no
Wow so hard
You aren't criticizing the game. You're criticizing the process. If you aren't a chef you absolutely can't criticize that. You have no idea.
Not them but yeah.
Why the frick is this guy designing everything linearly? Has he even started work on the back half of the game?
They got past the paper stage and then realised during development that they couldn't make it fun.
He's just going to release the entire thing on the 10th anni of Undertale, isn't he?

The songs pretty good.

good music
pretty sure i heard this song in every ps1 jrpg with a slum/sewer area
That's amazing
Notice how it says "Deltarune Chapter 3" at the top.
3-5 is over. 3 is standalone now
Every chapter will now suffer this level of scope creep, but each chapter will still cover the same proportion of main plot as originally intended. Expect the final chapter around 2036.
The shenmue of our time
What tier are you, anon? I think the images are different depending on your tier.
I really wish he wouldn't fricking bother with the newsletter if he felt like it took too much energy out of him.

fricking hell is he just adding one pixel a day? literally how does ~4 hours of playtime translate to literal years of development?

By the time this shit comes out when our sperms turn to dust it's going to be a pretty underwhelming game. The Duke Nukem Forever of Indie Games.
>still taking 3 years per chapter
That's the thing, he made chapter 2 in 2 years, so he is getting S L O W E R
Chapter 4 will take 4 years, 5 will take 5, etc.
I will be +30 years old when this game comes out. It's fricking OVER.

glad i didnt stay up for this. see you gays next yeat then
Oh cool we got the actual worst possible outcome
How many people do you think killed themselves over this now? Or maybe they finally got over obsessing over this hack, for the best
His games are not hard to make in the technical sense.
How the frick is it taking this fricking long to finish the 3rd chapter?

WHAT DOES IT MEAN
Noelle sneaking around in a big ol cardboard box.
The newsletter has a sprite from that scrapped section, it's the fun gang sneaking around. Why would Noelle be in Kris's house dark world?
>Why would Noelle be in Kris's house dark world?
I fricking love these idiots
Hurry up Toby!
I want to finally be able to watch my favorite streamers play the next chapters like I did with all your previous games.
THAT'S IT ROBERT
I CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE, I'M MAKING MY OWN DELTARUNE 3-7, THIS TIME YOU'LL BE ABLE TO SEX EVERYONE
Does anyone aside from his dedicated autists even give a frick about this anymore?
Are you moronic? UT is one of the most popular games ever, fan works on Youtube get hundreds of millions of views.
I have never met an Undertale fan irl nor anyone that even heard knows what Undertale is tho. It's extremely obscure compared to other indie games like Minecraft. Even my grandma knows what Minecraft is.
>It's not as popular as the most successful game of all time? KEK WHAT A FLOP
The post I was replying to claimed
>UT is one of the most popular games ever
But now it's unfair to compare it to other successful indie titles? As expected from an undertroon tho
Minecraft is the most successful game of all time, it is unfair to compare it to Undertale which is only one of the most popular games ever.
Minecraft is one of the biggest games ever made, so of course it's not THAT big. But it's quite popular. Sans in Smash and all. Every gamer I know is at least aware of Undertale even if they haven't played it themselves.
>Minecraft is one of the biggest games ever made
It's not of the biggest games ever, moron. It is THE biggest game ever.
>Do you think zoomers + alphas know what Tetris is?
Yes.
>Meanwhile Minecraft is popular among Millenials, zoomers and alphas.
But Gen X and earlier are more likely to know Tetris
Gen X doesn't play video games and they are dying out.
add in millennials and nothing of value is lost.
Considering Chapter 3 took two full years to make, I think it's safe to assume we're looking at a UT 10th anniversary release for chapters 3, 4, and 5. If you expect anything earlier than that then you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.
Yeah, 2025 is an optimistic but realistic prediction.
delusional
>no funny comic
>no undertale character interview
this is just sad. he couldn't even do this for the newsletter? damn
Fake. What source
God dammit Toby, just add a quirky villain, good music and a cryptic alt route and there! a huge fricking autistic success.
>toby said that chapter 2 took about 16 months of development.
>24 months of development later chapter 3 STILL isn't done
Well obviously that means that Chapter 3, taking into account all the time it's taking and all the manpower going into it as compared to Chapter 1/2, is gonna be uhhhhh like 3 and a half chapters worth of stuff packed into just one chapter.
Toby said chapter 2 is the biggest chapter in the game.
Well, obviously this means that Toby is just changing things around, as you can tell by how he's talking about a canned section of Chapter 3, and how he is also talking about only Chapter 3 in this newsletter which obviously means we are getting Chapter 3 standalone SOON.
>obviously
Youre speculating. Stop pretending like you have any idea what Toby intends to do.
Don't know about soon but yeah it seems like the bundle is out of the picture.
Alright guys what's the newest cope now? Please I cant take it anymore
The website update I guess
that the newsletter hints to chapter 3 becoming a separate release and coming in the next few months with how its "close to completion"
Seems like weak cope to me.
they can always release chapter 3 at the price of 3 chapters and release 4-5 as free updates for those who bought it
It disturbs me how much I look like this dude and go "he just like me" the same way he does.
The newest cope is rope
Does anyone else feel indifferent about Deltarune after this update? I started losing interest about a year ago, but after seeing Toby hasn't even finished the 3rd chapter I'm not even disappointed. Toby should just cancel the game and do whatever side projects interest him at this point.
nah, i'm perfectly fine with this. because i've been putting my focus onto other games and my own over the past year. if i were to focus on deltarune so much, yeah i'd probably feel really indifferent about this.
Underchikichan barely draws Susie anymore.
Ok memes aside now, all we have to look forward to in the maybe near future is the Silence ending for Spamton Sweepstakes
I think it's time to let go anon. It's been almost a year and they haven't posted it yet for some reason.
Copetimistically, they will release it any time now and it will have new interesting lore
Realistically, Toby never intended for that ending to be a thing so only the video for Freedom exists
Pretty sure he said they made both.
That doesn't make much sense. Ideally you want to record both endings since either of them could've won.
Who cares about that mental ward anyways.
Should have hired Finnish devs.
Because they can finnish games?
I wonder how /UTG/ is taking this. They must be on full damage control after hyping up this release for the past week.
>I wonder how /UTG/
Why?
>Why
Im sure a few of them post in these threads. You might be one of them for all I know.
You take that back.
they are in a state of absoulute depression and sadness, im convinced atleast one of them will shoot themselves in the fricking face tonight from the sheer disappointment of this years status update
>Cut to December 2024
>/UTG/ has been anticipating the grand release of Chapters 3 4 and 5.

>Toby explains that due to his collaborations with several indie devs and Nintendo, Deltarune is still in development
>"Thank you all for your support, don't forget to check out our merch and we'll see you all next year!"
>/UTG/ in utter disrepair, hopes and dreams shattered
>Several anons make a suicide pact due to immense grief
>/UTG/ dies en masse
Bravo Toby
>people fell for it
anons need to step up their game
it's fake?
Unfortunately no
check toby's twitter and the deltarune site
DELTARUNE
IT TOOK TWELVE YEARS TO MAKE
I would make a meme with Jay saying infinite trash surrounded by pictures if all the collaborations Toby's done for the past 2 years in lue of completing his game but im too lazy.
I told y'all mfs we were getting a "Wellz chapter 3 is almost complete but not really but very likely to be soon" type post lmaoooooolllloollll
Pain.
APOLOGIZE RIGHT NOW
Ok, earliest I'm thinking now is December Holiday 2024.
Now back to the waiting.
malding over vidya announcements all week again anon?
Yes. I will become the next schizo boss.
7 years really was an underestimate huh
It is extremely comical that Vision Crew chapter 3 may come out sooner than the real one at this point
Links? Someting I cna pkay? Desperation.
this ost and some screenshots they've posted online are currently all that we have.
they probably have a discord where they post progress but im not gonna go there lol
>World Revolving leitmotif
Is that for the Chapter 3 secret boss?
when you think about it, deltarune is basically a patreon scam at this point with all the merch shilling lol
>t.Alex
go back to devving alex, and for ff go to the gym, you're dying.
it's over,
at this point unironically fangames will be finished sooner
What's unfortunate is a lot of those fangames rely on the source material for content, now they'll have to make their own stuff since at this rate Deltarune won't release by the end of this decade.
honestly with the concept of deltarune is not too bad,
you can whip out your old toy box if you have one and make a Dark World out fo that and high possibility there is that it it'll be a vibrant and good setting
Deltarune equivalent of this will be fun
KUYASHII
>Black personfox
Ohhh..making me wait WAIT WAIT AGAIN aren't you?
All day and night waiting tick-tock tick-tock the clock just keeps going and doesn't stop, I'm getting old Toby, if you don't hurry up I might just DIE HAHAHAHAH
Wouldn't that be funny. Toby...Toby...You don't understand, your little game....it's all I HAVE...I...NEED....IT...NOW
Hurry up toby tick-tock tick-tock tick-tock time is running out for both of us.
The next Schizo boss is (You)
Having played neither, should I start with this or Undertale.
Undertale cus it's finished.
>finished
hardmode never ever
This shit the new Half Life 3
>episode 3
The writing was always on the wall
Half Life 3 will come out before Chapter 7.
bro why he doing that
>no videogaem
ANGEL OF DARKNESS ANGEL OF DARKNESS
I heard that in my head Anon.
You just brought me back in time with just a few words.
The mind is a powerful thing.
k-kino....
Anyone else here planning to play Stray Children when it's out?
ye
moon and chulip were great
Wait that stray children game looks awesome.
I really enjoye Chulip, what is MOON?
MOON: Remix RPG
Literally the main inspiration for Undertale. You should really play it.
https://twitter.com/tobyfox/status/1304113289115439107
Moon was a game Yoshiro Kimura directed/designed before Chulip, and now he's doing Stray Children.
So that plan about developing all of them and selling in a bundle... yeaaah methinks Toby isn't going to do that anymore.
He's got the money and resources to still go ahead with that, but whether it's a good idea or not is a wholly different issue
He originally said chapters 3 4 and 5 would cost more than undertale. what would he charge for one chapter, $10?
bro I dont care about the cost at this point
I do, I'm not paying for a chapter shorter than chapter 2.
at least we got undertale yellow to look forward to...
deltarune forever
This story isn't going to fricking wrap up until 2030, huh?
2030 sounds generous
I'd place my bet at 2040
Deltarune coming out this century? Optimistic, aren't you?
>he thinks deltarune's coming out this time loop
kekarooooooo
I'm optimistic that there's a high chance of Toby randomly dying before he finishes the damn thing
Get it
3 years until chapter 3 is done then you wait
4 years until chapter 4 is done and then you wait
5 years until chapter 5 is done
hahahahHAHAHAHA TOBY YOU LITTLE META FRICK
You can tell he got frickall done.
The longer it takes to come out the better. Not looking forward to witnessing it do its usual song and dance of taking over the entire internet and flooding every single space with its autism for a year or so yet again.
It'll be out when it's out.
I wish he never did this chapter thing and just made a whole thing that was in smaller scope...
And miss out on all the money he makes from merch? Amateur.
I don't want to come off as an butthole.
But do you have any idea how much the lower ROI is on low quantity merch production compared to software?
Are you moronic? This shit is ludicrously profitable.
Okay, so you do have no idea.
There's a reason even shit as basic as a fricking T-shirt on fangamer is like $30 and almost immediately sells out.
MID 2024 RELEASE DATE AT THE LATEST, YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE ME!!!!!!!!
>work for weeks (possibly months) on a cool stealth section of chapter 3
>...hmmmm nah let's just scrap it
no wonder it's taking so long with toby scrapping stuff at the VERY LAST MINUTE.
prepare for him saying the entire dark world just "doesn't feel right" and chapter 3 taking a 2 year delay
To be fair, it's not uncommon for developers to make some segment or feature, only to then scrap it for a reason or another. Basically everyone has done it, but the reason for the scrapping can vary (not fun enough, couldn't bugfix before release, didn't have time to fully implement, etc etc).
the only cope that i could give is that the linear progress of time means we'll EVENTUALLY get deltarune...
A FRIEND INSIDE ME
>mfw while hes been making undertale i've lived in:
Canada, Russia, Israel, Georgia, Turkey, Mexico
Mr.Worldwide
I meant deltarune, derp.
Nope.
Do you have a money tree?
Nah, just have a programming degree and work online.
Frick, good for you anon. In my experience trying to learn programming I might as well try learning chinese
>mfw learned 4 languages
>Can't into programming
What's the secret anons?...
Much like how you learn languages by reading and speaking them, you learn programming by doing it. No ifs or buts, just get to it.
nta, but it always feels like doing those "how to draw mickey mouse step by step" drawing tutorials, following instructions 1:1 and being left with no further understanding of the subject
Look up things as you go.
military?
Why you traveling so much anon?
There is absolutely 0 hype for more deltarune thanks to Toby fricking around. He has to rely on undertale nostalgia points to get any clout, that and his music contracting.
Just a fun reminder that there is a non-zero chance that any of the posters in this thread will die before the game comes out.
Gonna be me
I genuinely don't think I'll live long enough to see the release of chapters 3-5, let alone the last two.
DR isn't the most important thing in life
for many it is.
i know many anons who delayed their suicides because they wanted to experience deltarune before dying
Sucks for those who did it for Game of Thrones.
There is a non-zero chance Toby will die before the game comes out.
I told you frickers not to get your hopes up. Of course the section about Toby working with the creator of touhou got as much writing if not more than the yearly status update. Facepalm
>morons on Ganker spent months insisting that a surprise chapter 3 drop was just around the corner
>instead they get this
Yeah, they made their own bed. Anyone who's miserable right now just needs to shut up and admit it's their own fault
not our fault toby and his team are being the most lazy devs the world's ever seen and only making 1 pixel sprite a week.
If chapter 3 ends up releasing individually would it still come with a price tag?
>Toby confirmed still not living in Japan
But you guys told me he was!
>as the years go by, I will never die
I wonder if he'll post some creepy cryptic shit on his tumblr again, since he posted the Toy Story thing last November
>supposed to be doing chapter 3,4, and 5 as one pay2play bundle
unless they changed plans without me know?
>still not even done chaper3
2032 RELEASE DATE CONFIRMED
You guys are being so dramatic about this like it's the end of the world. Just play something else in the meantime.
>he thinks Ganker actually plays games in the first place
no
most new games nowadays are not that good.
and even if there exists some games that i might enjoy, i won't be able fully enjoy them until i finish deltarune
>not playing undertale fangames & burning yourself out by reading countless AU comics
moron
Sounds like cringe to me!
>not playing undertale fangames & burning yourself out by reading countless AU comics
most of which are not good.
sorry that i don't wanna play undertale genocide sans fight #13243432
or read a AU comic where everything's the same except snowdin is only slightly more blue
this is all that he's said on chapter 3 so far.
>Chapter 3 was going to have 4 somethings and 3 (6?) other somethings.
I still wonder what he meant by this.
assuming that the cut stealth section was a something, it means that he keeps making and deleting shit
Anonymous
routes perhaps? who knows at this point.
It means Deltarune will consist of 7 chapters.
This happened because the Jannies image banned the guy growing Ralsei.
>basically nothing
well, time to forget about UT/DT till next year then
>Wants to release 3-5 at once
>Takes 2 years for a shorter chapter
At least we got Spamton and that charity stream
I think he's gonna eventually change his mind because if he takes fricking 2-3 years PER chapter to finish them then this piece of shit won't come out until 2027.
>you now realize that autists like Pine will probably finish Deltarune before toby ever does
He is not gonna change his mind, he's fully committed now, he already broke it once with chapter 2, he won't allow himself to do it again.
Time erodes everything, even promises.
My copium is that chapter 3 is a specifically experimental and wacky chapter compared to the more standard 4&5, and it's taking longer because they have to put a lot more thought into it's game design. And Toby scrapping shit at the last second.
I bet the people who were screaming about doomers are feeling a bit silly now.
Most of them were false flagging because the consensus was almost unanimous that Toby wast releasing anything this year. That said, there are a lot of schizos who actually believe chapter 3 4 5 are coming out next year which is hilariously delusional.
12 months isn't that long. It'll be here before you know it.
Wow, Deltarune! Just 12 months away! Can you believe it? Deltarune, in just 12 months!
Hahaha dumb schizomemeing hopium KEKS doomchads win again!
It's OK just trust the plan lol Toby Fox is the SHADOW DEVELOPER
Can you really call it winning?
The funny part is if toby decided to cut down scope and say the game will end in chapter 5, no one would mind whatsoever.
I told everyone we wouldn't see 3-5 until 2025, I don't even wanna laugh at you I think you're delusional morons.
Toby probably shouldn't have dropped Chapter 2, it gave these ADHD spastics who never learned delayed gratification unrealistic expectations.
Toby just groomed himself an unbelievably autistic fanbase.
more like im delaying my suicide because i need to see how the game ends first
I planned suicide at the end of this year because that’s something I’ve promised myself years ago, even before undertale came out, but I got another thing to look forward to for next few years. I hope life will keep giving you things to look forward to even after deltarune gets finished
Tobys ultimate goal is to turn everyone into Schizo-posting freaks. Ch 3+ is all just bait.
How much time will pass before toby acknowledges that this game is taking forever to complete? Depending on when he started development for deltarune he's hitting close to 6 or 7 years which is about half the time it took for duke nukem forever to come out. We're only at chapter two of seven.
its already been 8 years. he started after undertale
The difference is that Duke Nukem Forever had Gearbox, a studio and team dedicated to releasing the game asap. Duke Nukem Forever was also ass.
>How much time will pass before toby acknowledges that this game is taking forever to complete?
Didn't he say it right away? Like nobody actually expected it to be released within a decade, right?
i thought it was gonna take 7 years
Yeah it's actually gonna be more than 7 years, I can see Chapters 3-5 dropping at the 7th year mark, but there is no way we're getting all chapters in 7 years, so Toby's gonna have to go back on his promise of only taking a maximum of 7 years on a project.
Can't you guys just play other games?
You know a lot of the other "quirky indie RPG's" are actually good and you don't need just this one, right?
FFS a sequel to Moon got announced for an English release
1. No
2. Eat Shit
3. Shut the frick up
Really?
Okay, recommend me 2 or 3 that are already out and preferably have fun gameplay instead of just keep pressing A to level up and kill everyone.
None of them will ever scratch the same itch Undertale and Deltarune can.
Which one will come out first?
>Silksong
>Prime 4
>DELTARUNE CH. 3-4-5
>Silksong
>Unity engine
It's never coming out.
What the frick is a moon? I bet it doesn't have cute goats anyway who cares
That Homestuck adventure game might actually get finished before Deltarune does lmao
Not gonna happen.
Act 3 of Hiveswap was confirmed to be in development just recently, along with some new screenshots. They haven't abandoned it.
Toby?
Toby Fox, is that you?
If Hussie wasn't such a fan-hating nutjob, we could've had a live action adaptation of HS on Netflix now.
A live-action adaptation of Homestuck would fricking suck.
Not if they take the Scott Pilgrim live action approach and revel in the silliness and stupidity of it all.
MARK MY WORDS
TOOOOBBYYYYYY
surely toby isn't a moron and realizes how long it'll take right?
spending a decade on a PORTION of a game is mental.
it's almost fated that he'll just say whatever and release it standalone
>doomers:he won't do it ag-
shut the hell up
just get a hobby and touch some grass
>just get a hobby and touch some grass
I think it's better he releases it when he think it's ready, not because of fan pressure.
I think it's better he releases it when he think it's ready, not because of fan pressure.
clearly he doesn't know anything about the game's status if he's scrapping stuff last minute THREE YEARS INTO DEVELOPMENT
does all the game dev lessons and stuff just not apply to toby? does he get a free pass from being mocked just because he's toby fox?
Maybe Toby could use some pressure.
anyone trying to "pressure" toby would just get buried in replies with that one miyamoto quote
funny how people keep spamming that quote when only a few handful of games that take their time actually end up being good.
I'm glad that Deltarune is one of the games that ended up being good despite Toby delaying the first chapter for years to make a whole another game first. Oh wait, that doesn't count because we were not aware of it so we couldn't doompost about it, my bad.
where did i mention anything about deltarune moron?
i was talking about my issues with the quote
>chapter 3 not done
>nothing being released until the full game is done
> 9 chapters in total
It unironically might not be done until like 2027
It's 7 chapters though, not 9. I do agree with you though, the full game won't come out until 2027, and that's the earliest I could see it coming out.
We're waiting til the 2030s at the earliest moron
>its been about 3 years per chapter
someone tell him
>selfdefense is.. LE BAD
Frick off Toby you cuckold. Go donate to Black Lives Matter
you're forced to attack asgore and asriel literally just tells you not every problem can be solved by just being nice
explain how the best route was genocide then
Frisk has no enemies
>the chapters won't come out this year
>the chapters won't come out for the next few years
>the chapter won't come out this decade
>you must be funny to think chapter 3 will comeout in the next 20 years
why are doom babies like this?
you can only take so much abuse before you give up
two more weeks
the unending forward march of time means we'll get it EVENTUALLY
That's assuming nothing bad happens to Toby that could render him totally incapable of continuing development.
Odds are he's the only person who truly knows how Deltarune is supposed to go too, so if something fricked up happens, that's it. Shit's done. His vision is now impossible to achieve.
It would be pretty funny if Toby pulled a Miura mid-development, right?
Omocat will finish Deltarune if that happens
Omocat just *barely* managed to finish Omori in like 8 years. I do find it funny that it will take Toby MORE time to finish deltarune than it did omocat to finish Omori considering the development of Omori was a complete shitshow.
Can't wait for Ralsei to stab Kris in the eye near the end of the game.
I mean, it would probably be Temmie if anything, right?
technonecromancy shouldn't be too far outside of the realm of possibility by the time toby gets miura'd.
THIS JUST IN
IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM TOBY FOX:
https://vocaroo.com/15BJmen4jUOF
My fricking sides
Toby Faux just keeps disappointing
I remember back during Chapter 1 and also Chapter 2's release people often made joke about having to wait 7 years, I remember some people saying how that was just a worst case scenario estimate and the full game would probably come out sooner. I wonder how those people are feeling right now.
I'm fricking dying
i was one of those people.
i feel like my expectations in toby were broken and thrown in the trash.
unironically the newsletter is the biggest black pill toby has made.
it just shows us how little he cares about making deltarune when like it only takes 10% of the newsletter (while generic jap dev collab takes over 90% if email)
Okay, screw this.
Where the frick is Undertale Yellow?
Somewhere between now and the end of 2023, that's all we know of Yellow.
Good, I don't want to see you gays spam the same unfunny meme when it releases.
>LMAO MY QUIRKY BUSINESSMAN PUPPET SO HECKIN FUNNY HEHE
I hope you understand there will be daily threads for at least an entire month when the next chapters release. It'll be a 4-year minimum edging session by then.
I hate zoomers
It's coming out in December :3
I hope a crazy jap murders him in minecraft for this 🙂
I don't think toby has a clear vision for the middle of the game. He knows what the ending will be like, but he doesn't really know how it will lead up to it.
>Has entire team working under him
>Has a rabid fanbase where he can steal ideas from and not get shat on if he does
>Soundtrack made up of songs that were “inspired” (and totally not plagiarized) from other intellectual properties
>Still unfinished
Yep, that’s typical Toby Fricks behavior. How shall we proceed with mocking this trannie, yeah-yeah beebis ass dweeber?
at this point im more excited over fangames than the actual deltarune release.
at least they know how to finish stuff fast and have a realistic scope
Are there even any fangames of prominent scale that actually pulled through? Yellow's the only one that comes to mind considering completion's at the horizon, but beyond that I couldn't tell you shit about anything that's promising aside from DONTFORGET and Deltatraveler.
Actually, throw Team Switched's version of Underswap on the radar too, that's another neat one I just remembered.
icebound is shaping up to be good.
and and team R.V's chapter 3 is basically gonna be finished if toby really is gonna not release anything until 2025
>there is a good chance deltatraveler will fully finish before we get chapter 3
how does that make you feel?
Makes me not care because DT's writing feels like it was created by an AI that was just fed UT/DR memes and didn't actually play the game.
Toby is lucky most of the Undertale/Delta Rune fanbase is as rabid as it is, any other indie title would not be able to expect their fans to stay excited for years and years between releases that are only a ~3 hour long experiences.
yeah
not just indie game but ANY game that forces you to wait 3-4 years for it to only release half of the story would just die and go to obscurity.
there is a timeline where fans just had enough and deltarune faded into nothingness as nobody cared about the game anymore
He should put out an official Toriel boob mousepad to make up for it
So Scam Citizen will finish before Deltarune?
There were little zoom zooms who were 13 when chapter 1 came out who are allowed to post here now
And if you were an adult when chapter 1 released, you're steadily approaching 30
>You will be an old man with alzheimer's muttering incoherent nonsense about Ralsei's expanding dong before Deltarune is ever finished
And Toby was a shit-eating edgelord teenager who, before getting a gig in Hussie's basement composing for Homestuck, made his original claim to fame be an Earthbound hack where Dr. Andonuts calls you a homosexual.
>still digging up his past
Why? So we can involve Toby in culture war shitposting?
No, I just find it very funny that this is how one of the biggest names in indie gaming, both west and east, got his start.
Toby will become irrelevant in a few years just like his old mentor
>18 when Undertale released and fresh out of high school
>21 when Deltarune came out
>26 now and still jerking off to toriel, undyne, chara, kris, susie and noelle
It has to get old at some point, right
29 here. It doesn’t.
Yeah, me.
Toriel is the only good thing that come from thiss franchise
i don't get it?
a 2 year hiatus was basically enough to forever remove homestuck from cultural phenomenon status and only die hard fans followed the comic to the end.
how come deltarune going on 4+ years does nothing?
are people nowadays just bigger dev simps?
Chapter 2 was only 2 years ago.
and like i said 2 years was enough to hurt homestuck's reputation forever.
so what makes deltarune different
Again, feel free to tell me if Homestuck's situation is different than I've assumed here.
so if you really know about homestuck then i'll just say that it (was) a great webcomic that manages to do multimedia thing well.
some chapters are animated/ some are even full GAMES that you can play and discover easter eggs.
there is a reason toby became such a fan that he started making music for it.
but TLDR
andrew hussie wanted to make a full adventure video game and decided to open a kickstarter.
it got fully funded in under 24 hours.
hussie decided to contact a AAA studio to develop the game.
though as luck would have that very same studio got contacted by another company who gave them the chance to develop a new kingsquest game (lol)
now this game dev studio (The Odd Gentlemen)
decided to just scam hussy and develop the kingsquest game instead.
hussy comes up to them a few months later asking them what the hell is going on?
>lol we wanted to make a game for a IP we know about
>here's 10% of the money you gave us now piss off (keep in mind hussie gave them 4 million dollars for the game)
all of this stuff basically sucked out ages from hussie's life span since he basically got scammed out of nearly 4 million dollars and he has to make a game is a few years.
so that's the story on how homestuck got stuck in a hiatus
?si=af9u1x6G4AnRFgiV
here's a video that explains the deeper LORE behind this whole mess
Cool video, took me until the end to notice how old it is. Are there any more recent developments? Videos about any recent developments you can recommend?
he did eventually make a whole sun-series talking about his experience with homestuck (which includes an update regarding the whole game thing.)
?si=YzgYUrXtMviYTD3X
there is also this one that came even much later that only talks about hiveswap
?si=vxOEoNHE69da12L1
Thanks, Susi-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>hussy comes up to them a few months later asking them what the hell is going on?
>>lol we wanted to make a game for a IP we know about
>>here's 10% of the money you gave us now piss off (keep in mind hussie gave them 4 million dollars for the game)
What the frick? That sounds like liable grounds for suing.
honestly he could've tried suing them.
but he was a young 20s american who didn't even have a real job.
so yeah... he's not the type of guy to know about law stuff
Wasn't he 30 at the time when he was writing Homestuck?
Like, I expected the status update to just be "yeah we're still working on it" and nothing else, but I thought they'd also release the other ending to the sweepstakes?
>prease understand, ZUN said I am a very good boy (laughs)
Is this Toby's writing? It literally reads like an ESL wrote it
Toby's blog posts read like they're from a Japanese man who used Google Translate to post something in English.
>In 2 years toby will have spent 10ish years working on fricking deltarune
>And it still definitely wont be done by then
>We might not even have chapter 3-5 by then
Toby and WEG devs are one and the same.
After this my expectations for Chapter 3 are through the roof, with how much time it's taking to make and with how Toby has said that it'll be pretty different from the previous chapters, I expect it to be a unique experience that I have never seen in any other game, and if it's isn't I'm gonna be extremely disappointed.
Honestly I was planning on buying the game when it comes out, but I think I might instead pirate and see if I like it first, and then buying it.
you gotta friend me
Let's have a moment of silence for all the people who will die or have already died while waiting for the release of chapters 3-5.
I'm gonna be one of those.
>there are people who died when chapter 1 was all that we had
that breaks my heart...
9 gang
Well, at least I finally got a new Armored Core and it was good before my disease takes me.
>The Direct sucked
>This sucked
>UTY still not out
i don't have anything to look forward to, might as well kms now
I mean, you have undertale yellow to look forward to. although it'll probably just release by winter or something.
Toby's a clout chaser. He's rather be bragging about working with his Japanese heroes than releasing anything.
Homestuck's version of Megalovania is better than Undertale's
God that guitar in the last minute
Frick tavros btw
I was thinking of replaying Chapter 1 and 2, I didn't expect a release but I did expect a more substantial update and a more or less confirmation that the next chapters would come out sometime in 2024, but after reading this newsletter I have a hard time believing that there's gonna be a release at any point earlier than 2025, and I'd go as far as to say that I can even see a 2026 release, and frankly if I replay the games now by that point I'll probably have already forgotten the intricacies of the story and my gaming skills will have atrophied, so I don't think I will, plus when I reach the end it'll probably leave a bad taste in my mouth given that we have to wait atleast 2 more years for anything new, so overall I think I'll leave the replay to sometime in the future.
>and I'd go as far as to say that I can even see a 2026 release
HAHAHAHAHAHA
try more like 2030 release
WAKE THE FRICK UP TOBY
>kickstarter comics
>alarm clock app
>"silence" ending
they keep piling up
And you homosexuals laughed when I said ch3 wasn’t done yet
we'll still keep laughing at you cause you're a noelle waifu tard
Plap plap plap
A 10 year old kid who played Undertale on launch is now an adult.
>Toby spends 2 years doing ‘experimental’ gameplay mechanics instead of just finishing the game
>all these morons falling for it
you people are like the boomers who believe everything on tv
alright anon what's the new cope this time? september 17? halloween? christmas?
release in 2026, probably
the only ones coping are those who think the game will come out in the next two years
what about those who say the game will nNEVER come out?
or are you one of them and thus won't make fun of them?
Not him but the game will come out eventually, it's just a given, unless Toby just straight up fricking dies in the middle of development, which could happen all things considered.
Who should finish the game if he dies?
Yandev
I think Temmie would be the only one qualified for it, it seems like she's the closest to Toby and besides Toby himself she's probably the one that knows the most about how the game is supposed to go, though I'm sure the rest of the team also knows it, but I think Temmie would be the best fit for directing.
Omocat
well the possibility is always there
if toby randomly fricking dies, then deltarune will never release
but in the case he doesn't, the game will obviously eventually come out
and considering their current pace + the news that they're developing faster and faster i'm sticking with my 2026 prediction
DELTARUNE! Just -3 hours away!
Can you believe it?!
we need him to return
we need him to exact vengeance
we need the goon
the who?
I'm just here to laugh at anyone who honestly thought we'd get a new chapter today.
I told you frickers that development was cancelled. He's just making up shit at this point.
>even leddit is melting down and shitting on the dog
It’s over
>all these punks not having access to TRUCK FREAK exclusive content within the email
heh
Toby keeps adding new mechanics and then cutting them for ch3. Dude is basically doing starfield type development
I'm not saying its a drawback. Just that they don't have to melt their brain on how to create an universe and chapters that perfectly fits its gameplay. I would say it's the opposite, thus I still don't grasp how can they take so much time from what we know.
*it's
*fit
>I have trouble understanding how they can struggle so much
I suggest trying to make a game yourself, because you talk like someone who has no idea what he's talking about.
>'Uh, do it yourself if you're not satisfied.'
But my dear, a video game company is still a business like any other. And they seem to heavily rely on the fact that they are funded not by shareholders or private investments, but by a very emotionally attached fanbase.
Nothing you just said had anything to do with the previous conversation kek
Excellence is a habit, we are what we do
it's absolutely true. if you don't have deadlines and someone to hold you to them, you're gonna struggle much more to get shit done in an efficient timeframe (unless you're a god of motivation and time management)
t. artist procrastinating a webcomic
Good thing that unlike Undertale this is just his passion project and he can do whatever the frick he wants.
stop sucking his wiener so hard
Hey if you don't like it just ask for a refund.
just make sure not to use your teeth bud.
heard toby will delay the game again if you suck too hard
In that case I'm gonna bite his dick off so it never comes out.
>but I'm pretty damn sure that all this stuff Toby wants to add to the game must be a pain in the ass to implement
we he sure as hell isn't grateful for the work his team does for him if he's gonna just trash weeks long work and a finished portion of the chapter just because he "doesn't feel it's right"
Deltarune is being made by a handful of people, with only one autist having the entire game planned out in his head.
It's pretty much the same reason why Silksong is taking so long
I wouldn't call the gameplay shallow, it's not complex but I think it's more involved that quite a lot of games out there.
coding undertale/deltarune's battles is a hell for any programmer
every attack is basically a whole small game in terms of coding used (let alone the bigger attacks that final bosses/secret bosses use)
Elaborate
He's stretching it out to milk merch sales
The scrapped stealth mission section makes me feel that the chapter's production is in a weird place, you shouldn't remove a mechanic this late into development.
>play deltarune
>have to name my vessel
>also have to put MY name in there after
>no generic canon name to use and not think about it
wow, unplayable.
Toby you hack redesign kris and chara to look like this
Toby is a typical wasted potential indie developer who becomes a multi-millionare overnight and still develops games exactly the same way he did before, incredibly slowly
Hire some people to work for you
He’s more interested in hanging out with Celebs and doing colabs at this point
>doing colabs
is he a streamer?
He did, but those people are working on their own games more than Deltarune
Perhaps he should hire some people to work on his game full time then?
>deltarune does get updated
>all it does is change this line from "maybe a day, maybe 6 years"
AAAAAAAAAA I'M GONNA FRICKING KILL MYSELF
Who should play Kris in the live action show?
>start playing Deltarune in 2018
>6 more chapters
>3 years each
>have to wait until 2036 to finish playing Deltarune
What are the chances both Toby and I survive until then?
Toby has frick you money so chances are he won't die unless he gets a terminal illness or something equally unlucky.
This world is pretty random. The more time passes the greater the odds that something random will take you out.
>generic pixelslop takes years to finish
Does he work like 1h/week?
more like 10 mins a week (and only if he's in a good mood)
>tfw think him talking about the cowboy section being cancelled was just a funny meta joke
>it was actually just crapped for real
toby... why...
the stealth section is going to appear as part of the cowboy section before you fight the schizo boss
source: it was revealed to me in a dream
>spends 5 months working on stealth section, makes music, dialogue, enemies etc
>decides to scrap it all
There’s the problem
Yeah testing new mechanics before wasting months creating assets for it fricking sucks I guess
Surely this extremely long development time has to give credence to the multiple paths/ending theory right?
It's gonna be the bare minimum
A lot of anons are super jaded right now, but I think so, especially if that Discord convo screenshot with the GameMaker Studio main dev is legit
>especially if that Discord convo screenshot with the GameMaker Studio main dev is legit
what?
found it
Feels to me that could just be some sort of a launcher thing, where you have some main application for picking the chapter, and then you have a separate exe for each chapter. This would allow him to frick around with the engine specifics for each chapter individually, instead of having to tardwrangle everything in one, and hope something doesn't break between chapters.
https://manual.yoyogames.com/#t=GameMaker_Language%2FGML_Reference%2FGeneral_Game_Control%2Fgame_change.htm&rhsearch=game_change&rhhlterm=game_change
there it is
basically one of the top heads at the gamemaker team said they were working on a new feature for the engine that allows you to run multiple EXEs for a single game.
and that they were specifically working on this because toby asked for it.
Hiding from Toriel because she wants to ruin your fun.
reminder that toby finished chapter 2 in under 2 years (alot of the time was spent wasted on trying moving the game to unity LMAO)
so chapter 3 taking this long has no excuse.
he ALSO said that chapter 2 was the biggest chapter in the whole game so WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?
He’s fricking around with gameplay mechanics that don’t work
>so chapter 3 taking this long has no excuse.
my main cope is that he's working on all 3 chapters simultaneously and that he's nearly finished with all 3 of them.
But again that's just pure cope, I think he is just lazy and has poor work ethic. Add in a lack of any real deadlines and him and the team have a pass to take fricking forever where as if you lit a fire under their ass then they could probably do it way quicker
>Chapter 3 taking forever
>Chapter 3
>CH3
>......
>V3
>Episode 3
>undertale anniversary newsletter
>90% of it is just toby sniffing his own farts about working with zun
i knew toby would eventually let all the success inflate his EGO but i didn't know it would grow this much...
i was in middleschool when chapter 1 released. now im out of college, and living on my own.
pretty sure deltarune is just vaporware at this point, still more likely to come out before hl3 tho id say
Genocide merchandise?
I thought the intention was for chapters 1 and 2 to be released individually, for free, and then 3 - End were supposed to all be released at once as a paid package
it was supposed to be
>chapter 1 free demo
>chapter 2-7 all at once
then toby walked it back and changed it to
>chapter 1+2 free demo
>chapter 3-5 at once
>chapter 6+7 at once
And beyond that he's now just talking about chapter 3 without mentioning 4 or 5? Meaning he's probably changed his mind again and 3 will be individual too?
wew
and now there is a good chance chapter 3 will be standalone.
WERE SO BACK
weapons grade copium
whatever you say chud
I'm starting to believe this.
Toby is just going to release chap 3 once he realizes he's way too fricking slow.
I don't believe Toby's actually said chapters after 5 exist, people just assumed so from the game files.
you literally see seven chapter slots on the chapter select screen anon...
Anon it's literally in the main menu, 8/9/10/0 is when stuff gets theoritical
My fricking dude the chapter selection menu shows 7 chapters if memory serves correctly. I wouldn't be shocked if we get a chapter 0 or some shit inbetween the wait for 6/7
Not the game files, the chapter select screen that showed seven chapters in total.
That's for chapters 8-10 and 0, which I'm pretty sure is just dataminer bait
Why don't you Black folk wait till the entire game is done
Playing a game piecemeal sounds like a miserable experience
i could see toby releasing 3 alone and then 4+5 as a duo.
it's obvious that doing 3 WHOLE CHAPTERS at once is way too much for toby and the team to handle.
doing 2 at once seems more realistic
Honestly even that sounds like too much at this rate
How are we coping bros?
Poorly
I'll forget this game exists again between Susie/Toriel wanks.
I'm telling myself that at least it can't possibly be as shitty as Starfield.
i was gonna wait until the game came out to play it, at least ch3-5, but im just gonna play the demo right now, i just hope my save transfers over to the paid game
pretty badly.
I knew that expecting a chapter to release was some next level copium high, but I didn't think development was going so terribly that they still haven't finished 1 chapter in 2 years.
don't forget chapter 3 is probably LESS finished than last time.
he scrapped a whole area and a stealth section
(you)
Bros... Hours of scrapped content? Rewrites? The shitposters were right. Deltarune is officially in development hell...
I'm willing to bet Chapter 3 is STILL not gonna be done by the time the next newsletter drops.
itt: failed artists trying to justify their non-existing career by shittalking one of the most successful indie artists in existence
It's over.
